Came here to enjoy the beach and snorkel a bit. I'm older and not a strong swimmer, so was looking for a protected reef area with not so strong currents. Arrived early in the morning and set up my towels under a nice shady tree towards the south end of the park. I read the reviews about shady people, but I never encountered a we were only there during the day. There were a few local folks that did stop by with their kids for just a quick dip in the water and then they took off. Lifeguard did one ride along the beach to check on things. Like that there's a bathroom here as well as a rise off outdoor water shower. Water was a bit foggy, but could have been because the waves/swells were churning good the day I went. Didn't see many fish, but I also wasn't confident in myself to go out too far.

This is a great spot for camping, there are a lot of people during the day and some sketchy people hanging around at night, but we went unbothered the whole time! Right on a beautiful beach that you can swim and has bathrooms and showers. Bathrooms are kinda dirty.

Mud puddles as we drove through the parking area.

This is a very local beach that was not at all crowded when we visited. There are two parking areas and it is important to note that they are not paved. We went during the rainy season and there were quite a few mud puddles (most were 4 inches or less depth). It was no problem for us in our Jeep, but I can imagine smaller cars could struggle after heavy rain. We had the beach mostly to ourselves, minus a few locals napping down the beach. The water was clear and there were cute little crabs running all over the beach into their holes. The views were gorgeous and the palm-tree lined beach was peaceful. Note that the beach itself isn't very wide, so there isn't much room to lay out towels on the sand itself, but there is grass to use. There is a restroom and a lifeguard station. I don't know how often the lifeguard is on duty.

Three stars seems right for here. Though I didn't encounter any "shady" characters, I didn't camp over night either. I just stopped by to check out the beach for awhile and noticed it had a lot of driftwood scattered about and just looked like it needed the Parks Dept to stop by and spend a day making it look better. I didn't venture back into the camping areas, but did notice that the west end has a man made barrier system to help keep the big waves from crashing full force into the shore. The highlight of the visit was a sleeping Hawaiian Monk Seal was near the barrier. Or at least he looked like he was sleeping. One guy got pretty close to see if it was still breathing and got an angry vocalization from the seal. He was "sleeping" but had his bottom eye open while we were in the area. Review #2401

My husband and I have spent two trips at this beach and the Aloha is real here..be respectful, responsible and loving and it will be the best place you've ever been.

Never camped here but had a great day swimming with the kids. There are many locals in the area but they seem to keep to themselves and I had no issues. Amazing view and the south end is great for kids.

Gorgeous beach and somewhat hidden so it's fairly private save for a few locals. My husband and I liked it better than Hanalei Beach for the mountain view, long stretch of sand, somewhat private feel, and places to swim. Drive slowwww through here when you go to park. Why the hurry? :) there is also a river that meets the ocean with really pretty views of the nearby mountain and jungly foliage. No one was there haha! Amazing.

We found this place by chance. We were just driving around looking at houses and came across this beach.
