Greens are tricky!- be ready for none of them to break the way you think. 17th hole has the best view. Carts are in good shape. Highly recommend! Have cash in case their computer system is down! Have not played this course in 25 years! Still a fun course. Took my son who's just learning golf this was forgiving enough for him to enjoy 18 and me. The course is nicely manicured the greens were cut and fast! Some water but not a tin cup adventure. The rental clubs were just fine. The price was inexpensive for such a nice course great ocean views that yiu can forget your last bogey. We had a many choices but since he's a beginner this was a great course with wide fairways not easy but certainlymanageable. Only complaint was the bugs at the turn..Lee at the pro shop was a super cool guy personable friendly. Can't wait to get back to this course. read more

So based on the reviews we were hesitant to even try. We called and tried to get a tee time, we were told they only had one or two late in the day. We were told they had clubs but wouldn't rent them to us "late in the day" (??? Cuz later in the day they turn into pumpkins?) It was obvious we were getting ready to be the victims of the famously grumpy staff and decided not to try to force it. Went to another course and had a great day! Day started out great. Friendly fast service and friendly players. I ended up dropping $500 for the whole family (3 adults and 2 teens) to play with green fees, club rentals, carts, food, etc so I'd say its priced competitively. My family doesn't golf much, be we had some great hits and everyone had a great time. We are all novices and all of us had played multiple times, but we let all the stronger players play through our game. We stopped for lunch after the first 9, and the food was delicious. By the time we got to the 15th hole, it was closing time and we turned back to the club house satisfied with a solid game of golf. Upon return, we were immediately accused of playing more than one round and goofing off? We were so confused and explained we didn't even finish our first round! After charging another $40 for an unused broken club and being told we were the slowest golfers on the island, my father-in-law tried explaining we meant no disrespect to the beautiful course and we were only met with smiles and friendly conversation from the stronger players at the tees. We paid and left with negative vibes about the place. My teens were grumpy about the whole ordeal, and I felt awful my father-in-law had to defend our family outing. This is a nice course, but if you are a beginner or want to use the pro shop, just go somewhere else. read more

Best muni golf course I've played since my first game in 1989. And I've played dozens of municipal golf courses. Excellent course conditions. Especially so for the heavy play it gets. I walked the course and pushed a trolley. The front nine was flat enough. Be aware that the back nine has lots of steep elevation changes. In the 88 degree weather I got sweaty and semi-dehydrated. If you are in good physical condition sure, walk the course to enjoy "island time". If you want to relax and not strain rent a motor cart from r $20. Good pace. We barely waited for the forward group. Round was 4 hours. Visitor rate $48. My Kauai resident partner paid $9. Almost enough incentive for me to sell my California home and move to Kauai. Wow, what a classic course. Nearly immaculate course conditions and a stunning setting. Make no mistake though, this is not some easy resort course. It may be the most challenging course I've ever played. Long, windy and lots of doglegs and trees. You will use every club and it will test you on every hole, there is no let-up. Refreshingly old fashioned place too. Not fancy, very muni vibe to the clubhouse and no online booking. My only comment would be that they would make a killing if they got a fridge and sold some Gatorade. I knew and brought my own but be careful to stay hydrated, it's hot out there! read more

The guy in the pro shop has a major chip on his shoulder! He is the biggest jerk and probably the only one you will encounter on the Island! Seriously! Pompous, rude and argumentative! We wanted To buy hats, balls and shirts but he would not let us in the pro shop because we didn't have a mask. This place is losing a ton of money with this guy. Many of these low star comments are all about the main guy who operates the course and pro shop and this one isn't any different. He accused me of stealing money off his counter and said he has me on camera. He told me he's going to hold my money and check the cameras. I then offered to pay him more money just to please him and he denied saying "I'll take the loss". Me and my friends paid for our round of golf but were so upset that we left and dint play at all. If you're coming to this course pay with card and get a receipt, and I really hope you get the other nice gentleman that works the pro shop. read more

What a gem! No wonder this gets voted in the top 100 municipal golf courses in the United States. Gorgeous course. Extraordinarily well-maintained. Country club greens the day we played. Sufficiently challenging enough layout. Long enough from the whites and blues to make it a challenging course. Love the red sand bunkers. And most of all the bunkers hit true, even with the sporadic rainfall that falls every other day, you would think that it would make these bunkers hard, they were actually very playable and really enjoyable. My wife and I rented clubs which always takes a few holes to get used to. And then plain of course you don't know makes it another level of challenge. Add those two things together, and I would definitely recommend not playing in front of the locals who play at more like a race course than a beautiful golf course that sits along the oceans edge. We took pull carts to make sure that we spent time walking the course and being able to look at the beautiful views and vistas and layout instead of driving at high speeds from ball the ball. Highly recommend walking the course if you can, and if you have speedsters behind you, let them through. If golfers want to act like they forgot how bad they were when they first began, or be a little awestruck by such a beautiful scenic course, then they should join a private course. But when you're going to play a muni, being on pace is more than sufficient, you don't have to sprint to try and finish your round in four hours or better. And if you're unsure about reading the greens remember this, everything breaks towards the ocean. And these greens are some of the best Muni greens I've ever played, private or public. We'll be back! this golf course is exceptionally well kept! i really cannot believe it's their municipal golf course- apparently it's won awards and it makes sense. it's so so green!! and what a price to golf here!! go in the afternoon after 2 and it's half price! they have a nice gift shop where we found some good looking golf shirts for $50 which is very good for a golf shirt these days. we wish the back 9 had more views of the ocean but apparently the front 9 had most of those which we didn't play. the staff were super friendly. it's a great golf course to check out and we for sure would go back!! read more

For someone who is not a local I highly recommend this course. It is open to the public and reasonably priced. Some of the surrounding courses were rediculous with what they charge. I rented clubs and they even had stiff flex for me. A nice set of Cleveland clubs. read more

This is a beautiful and well kept golf course! We were impressed of its beauty and we really enjoyed the course. Greens were perfect! Bunkers well manicured (I was in them many times to admire them.) The price is also great! The clubhouse is basic so just bring your own food and drinks, they do have a few vending machines if in a pinch. The pro shop is a third party vendor and you can't go in without a mask...but he did grab me what I needed and brought it outside. But seems a bit silly to be so paranoid after all restrictions are well and gone at this point. The main thing you come here is for the golf and you won't be disappointed! So many beautiful holes! Right along the ocean so you will enjoy the sound and the ocean breeze from many spots! read more

The front nine layout is rather boring despite a few wonderful views on the first three holes. The back nine is far more enjoyable and creative. Unfortunately, the Aloha spirit is long gone from the establishment. The government workers couldn't care less about the tourists and act as though they are doing you a favor by allowing you to play. Expect a five hour+ round and no amenities. You would be far better off playing Puakea Golf just around the corner where the hospitality is off the charts and the lay out is far superior. read more

Gotta say I wasn't expecting much from a muni course. However, the views rival some of the best courses in Hawaii and the conditions are fantastic. The bunkers have sufficient sand, the greens rolled true, and the fairways and rough were lush. The course was definitely a beast from the tips (6900+ yards) with a subset of my clubs in gale force winds, but my son and I had an awesome time. We played the first twilight time and we didn't wait after the first hole and finished 18 holes in 3.5 hr walking. Would definitely love to play again, maybe from the next closest set of tees! read more

Nice course, pretty. But the golf shop ruins the whole experience. He was a terrible person. We called ahead 4 times to try to rent clubs, and he tried to play it off like we did not call ahead and should have. He then tried to force us to buy shoes because ours were not acceptable, even though he has nothing to do with the course. I cannot express how terrible the service was here. He is clearly just racist against white people. Do not give this guy your money. Go somewhere else where the service is good and the people are nice. The golf course staff were friendly and acknowledged how much of an Ahole the pro shop owner is. Unfortunately he was so rude that we decided to ask for a refund and go somewhere where people would be friendly and respect us. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! read more

This is a county-owned golf course on the west coast of Kauai a few miles north of the Lihue airport. If you are looking for eucalyptus infused towels, this is not the course for you. However, if you are looking for a relative bargain ($48 green fee for nonresidents on weekdays) on this island, play here. The range has mats and ball flight is limited by a net at the end. A small bucket of balls is $2. The course was crowded on a Monday morning. We waited on almost every shot but the round took just under 4 hours. There were a few fivesomes and even a sixsome behind us. The first two holes border the ocean and allow for whale watching while waiting to play. The course turns inland and then returns near the beach at 14 green. The par 3 17th seems to be the signature hole with a classic Hawaii golf feel. The course was in decent shape but definitely not manicured. It was hard to find a level lie on many tee boxes but the fairways and rough were in good shape. The greens held and rolled well but seemed a bit inconsistent for speed. If you are looking for golf as the locals do it, then this is a solid course. If you need to be pampered, then a resort course will be a better fit. read more

Let me tell you my adventure at Wailua. I had just played a concert at the Kauai Beach Resort the night before and I caught a taxi to Wailua. I had no clubs, nothing... only my shoes. I checked in as a single and rented clubs. The clubs were of some variety I had never heard of and cost $20. Not bad. The green fees were $20 and $20 for cart. Everyone was very nice! Now I went straight from the Kauai beach resort to here - the only thing I had was one latte from the gift shop at the resort. I was excited and went to the first tee. Only one group before me so the wait was minimal. I go up to the first tee and get ready to tee off. I have no balls! hahahahaha! I forgot them in my suitcase! I rush back and get 5 balls - you never know right! Last time I played this course I lost balls and shot well over 100. OK, I tee off and I'm hitting ok but short with the clubs. The course is NICE! The only thing are the greens are aerated. BUMMER! After an ok, but mediocre first 9, I look forward to my delicious sandwich from the snack bar and I'm tired of drinking one coffee. I want a COOL DRINK!!!!!! Uh, the snack shop is GONE - as GONE FOREVER!!!!! NO!!!!! OK,, I just want that cool drink.... UH THE MACHINE IS BROKEN!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!! I give up, I continue but this time I am going to swing smoothly.... I play the best 9 holes of my life given the conditions of the course (aerated and long). I love it! I go back and give the guy all the balls back because I didn't even lose one. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED even though all I drank all day was warm water from the ugly looking fountains. Best Golf deal on the island. It's a muni so do not expect the resort amenities... no drink carts on the course, and minimal services at the pro shop... but wow this was a fun, challenging course with amazing views that should cost you a fortune. For $70-ish bucks we paid for a round and a cart. Amazing deal. All of the folks we ran into on the course were very nice and courteous and pace of play was perfect (we finished 18 in 4.5 hours. It's on the beach, so many beautiful ocean and valley views. The Par 3 17th is breathtaking. Elevated tee box hitting to a green right on the beach. All the greens and fairways were in surprisingly great shape. I will come back and play here again on our next visit to Kauai! read more

This is one of the best courses I've played and is definitely the best municipal course. Only $68 on Friday morning with a cart. Don't judge by the exterior. It is older and needs renovation. The range is lacking. However the staff is top notch. Once you tee off, you'll discover everything is pristine. It's amazing. The tee box is level and clean. The fairways are better than some greens back home in LA. The views, nature, and people are friendly. I can't believe this place exists. Kauai and Wailua golf course. Note- golf before 12 is ready golf. And they mean, ready golf. A foursome in carts took 2:15 to finish. One of the most enjoyable rounds I've played. Even broke 90 to show it isn't difficult. read more

Avoid the pro shop at all costs! Not even joking! I live in Hawaii and wanted to treat my visiting family to a round of golf. Asked to rent a few extra sets and the guy who runs the pro shop could not have been more rude. The course is lots of fun. I was told by an "Old Timer" that back in the days this course was one of the Top 25 in the Country, and even served as a qualifying course for the US Open. Golf Course: Greens were real nice for a Municipal course. Service: Okay. Nothing to write home about. Atmosphere: Sometimes spacious, and some times it feels real narrow.
