Sharif has been my Massage Therapist for many years now. I need regular massages for post-Lyme issues. I have had several good therapists over the years, but he is the most knowledgeable. Sharif has a deep understanding of the underlying muscular and myofacial structures of the body in an area where there is pain. He is especially good with shoulders. This was a terrible experience. My usual hair dresser was booked up and I tried to find a quick fix at this salon because I had a work event a few days later. I asked if the stylist did curly cuts when I booked. I made the appointment right beforehand and I was rushing in; I was 10 min late - I called again to let them know, and that part of the situation was my fault. When I arrived, I was apologetic, and asked if i could still be seen. When I met the stylist (Helen, I believe) I explained that I wear my short hair wavy/curly and that I don't straighten or heat style it much. I was looking for a dry curl cut, which is 100% the correct way to cut curly hair (or slightly damp), otherwise you can't follow the curl pattern. She said she wanted to shampoo and condition it first. That was the first red flag. We were chatting pleasantly for a while but it seemed like she was wrapping up and my hair did not look like the shape I asked for - I have bangs that are wavy and I asked for the rest to be above the collar, more of a rounded shape that allows my natural curls to do their thing. The minute I asked her if she could lighten up the areas that were extremely heavy, she got irritated with me. I showed her a photo and she said she had no idea what I was talking about. I was baffled. I asked her to wet it again and use the curly hair method to dry it, and again... like we were speaking different languages. I actually did it myself, wetting it, turning my hair upside down, and using paper towels and my fingers to encourage the curls. She seemed truly mystified and very annoyed. When I asked her again to lighten up the bangs and the top layers, she crossed her arms and asked me how she was supposed to do that, since I knew so much. I was gagged - I'm not a hairdresser, and I had no idea how to tell her to actually do the cut. She took the cape off and said that was it, we were done. I was so confused that tears sprang into my eyes, and I asked her why she was treating me this way. This was the first time I raised my voice even a little. I looked around the salon, and probably 8-10 older women were watching and laughing at me. I literally stood at the front desk crying, and Helen smiled at me. The person who rang me up was incredibly rude. I said, I'm not trying to be difficult, I don't understand why I'm being treated this way. I don't think they expected me to pay, like they assumed I would refuse. I asked her to ring it up ($60), and then walked to the door. There was no tip on the receipt, so I went back to the desk and asked if I was charged for a tip. They were still sneering at me. They hadn't, so I said, "you know what, please charge me for a 50% tip ($30). Helen, hopefully you can have a better day than the one you've given me." She stopped smiling and said, straight faced, "you didn't have to do that." Yup, I know. Thankfully my usual hairdresser had an opening so this awful mushroom cut can be fixed before the holidays. Before anyone from the business comes in here saying that any part of this review isn't true, I have the (actual) receipts. I also audio recorded the end of that entire interaction and have screen shots of the panicked texts I exchanged with my husband during and after. Two of my friends were doing their best to console me afterwards, because it felt like I had been bullied. I honestly just went there, in a pleasant mood, to have a normal experience and walk out with a decent cut. This was the absolute worst experience I've ever had in a salon. It's not beyond me that I may appear to be outside of their usual demographic. I would avoid this salon at all costs. read more

Absolutely love this place, discovered it in my own backyard when I moved to Cortlandt Manor from NYC... Needed a root touch up within a short distance of my home and their building is so beautiful and upscale, I had wanted to come in many times, but have been doing my hair at home for a long LONG time! My birthday was around the corner and my husband insisted I get a pampering for once! This place offers super hospitality in a super clean and spacious/therapeutic/spa like atmosphere... the salon smells amazing, (not like chemicals.) Carla is the BEST and delivered a fabulous experience and a wonderful result. I trust like 2 people in the world to do my hair, Carla was soon one of them! Everyone was super friendly and the shampoo stations are modern and high tech! I had a wonderful scalp massage and a fabulous blow out. My hair has never been blonder and with great products! (Aveda is featured) Carla is super personable and friendly, and she knows what she is doing, not to mention her AND the staff all have great hair styles. You know when you walk into a salon and your stylist has super fried or unkempt hair? It makes one a little weary honestly- but NOT here! I wish I could say this was a pleasant experience, but now I understand why some of the other reviews are negative. They need to work on their customer service and make new people feel welcome. FYI, I was asked to leave a review and the owner didn't appreciate my honesty and said that I "demanded" to be seen right away. That is incorrect. I "demanded" nothing. Even though I was barely greeted, I stood there quietly and patiently waiting and looking over the products that were on the shelf. Anyone who knows me can verify that I'm not an unkind or demanding person. And anyone who doesn't know me can read all my reviews and see that. I did arrive 10 minutes early, which I didn't think was unfair. My appointment was at 2:45 and I was told at 2:43 that I was "early", so I waited a little longer and finally left because it was obvious that I wasn't welcome. I've been a customer of Ananda since opening. Stefania does a beautiful balyage and cut for me every visit and in a timely fashion. She's extremely talented with color and happy to provide input/ideas to change things up if you ask. My daughter is seen by Stephanie who also does a great job and is super patient and caring with my little one. They both make a great team. No, you can keep it! Gave it a couple of shots but NO go! I think I went here 3-times since being allowed in after Covid. The owner is rude in-person and not friendly over the phone either. Got grilled for walking in without an appointment. SORRY, dude! Thought perhaps there may be an open slot due to a cancellation! The ambience is so sterile inside that I kept asking my stylist when they actually opened for business, and if they were done decorating. Not warm and comforting! Bare, open, not decorated and echoey (is that even a word?)! If Luz was still there, I would in-fact still be a client. Time to move on... read more

I apologize, this is an extremely delayed review. My wife gave me a 3 massage gift package for Ananda and my first massage was in March of 2022. I was never a huge fan of massages, but when I went, I always asked for a lady masseuse. It's has nothing to do with sexuality so get your mind out of the gutter - it's just that men tend to beat the crap out of you which is why I'm probably not a huge fan of massages in the first place. Long story short, Sharif (the male co-owner) was the masseuse and he was spectacular. I went for the massage in the first place because of a nagging pain between my neck and shoulder. I've gone to Ananda Salon and Spa since it's opening! I've followed Carla, Sharif and the team since their original location at Carla's Hair Salon. After the height of COVID, when they opened Ananda Salon and Spa I knew I had to go! The moment you walk into the salon you are greeted with a warm and friendly welcome. Then you are promptly taken to the seat and your treatments begin. I've always had my needs met and they've listened to every detail that I have wanted from start to finish. After 1 incredible massage at Ananda I had to go back for another and it definitely won't be my last! Sharif asked where my problem areas were before the massage and targeted them specifically which I much appreciated! I felt relaxed the entire time. The salon is brand new and absolutely beautiful. From the moment you walk in to the salon/spa you are warmly greeted and welcomed. I now regularly see Sharif to get a massage because he is extremely kind, professional, and understands my pain issues. He genuinely cares about making people (and me) feel better, takes time to educate me with reasons why I have the pain that I do, and gives honest expectations as to how long it may take for improvement. Every time I leave I am relaxed, happy and continue to be thankful to have found such a kind, genuine person who cares about his clients and his business. I have been going to Carlas / Anandas salon for years. I have recommended numerous family and friends. I will never set foot in that salon again. Last Saturday I got my hair colored and instead of blonde it came out orange. I told my hair dresser it looks orange and that's the only color I do not like my hair. She said when it dries it won't look orange. She dried it and in the light in the salon it didn't look bad. After leaving and getting into normal light. It's orange!! I messaged her on Wednesday that I was upset and never heard back. Today I called to make an appointment to fix it. After talking to the owner I was told I have to come today or I will be charged. I informed him that it is my dads birthday and I can not come. He insisted 3pm today. That's it! I then made an appointment for tomorrow cuz that's all I can do. I work full time. Then called back and cancelled. He did not try in any way to retain me as a client. Not even to discount it or make it free due to the circumstances. He was also very snubbish. I will be taking myself and my referrals elsewhere !! As someone who works selling cars I'd go out of my way to retain my clients. Terrible business ethics in my eyes! Never act like you're too good if you want to keep clients!!! read more

Excellent massage - every detail was perfect. Sharif clearly is a seasoned Massage Therapist and the Ananda spa was spacious, clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. I've had close to 150 massages in my life, and this one easily made the "top 5." I loved Sharif's holistic approach to massage therapy. When I booked I wasn't sure if I should do a deep tissue or myofascial release, but at the start of my appointment he explained that he could combine elements from several types of massage - depending on my needs. He paid attention and asked questions when I explained which areas needed attention. Like a professional, Sharif was able to locate these areas and others I hadn't mentioned by touch. Usually, when I book a 90-minute massage, the therapist spends about 60 minutes on my back and then rushes to massage the other parts of my body in 30 minutes. Sharif did an excellent job of managing the time and making sure other areas weren't skipped. Draping technique isn't something I usually remember or care to comment on, but the way he cocooned my hands in the excess sheet was incredibly relaxing and reminded me of wearing mittens as a child which opened a stream of thoughts. Full disclosure, I may or may not have snored a couple of times just before the end of my massage. THAT'S how relaxed I was. I'll definitely be back! read more
