She shot our close friends' wedding and I was in their enormous wedding party. She handled all (18!) of us with calm assurance. The resulting photos were incredible. We actually ended up using one of the photos of us from that wedding as our engagement photo. I'm a professional event planner and have worked with many excellent photographers. What I really appreciated about Maureen's work was her ability to capture really touching candids - and really fun "formals". We decided against interviewing lots of photographers and booked Maureen after one meeting. It was a perk that she gave an LGBT community discount. We set up a Pinterest board shared with Maureen and proceeded to pin all kinds of wedding photos that we liked (including weddings at your venue). We threw in a few really fun and quirky shots that really fit our fall theme. The day of the wedding her and her assistant magically made those moments happen. We brought huge bins of pressed autumn oak leaves which she put to great use - including a fun montage throwing leaves with our nephews, a stunning photo of us laying on a bed of leaves and an incredible candid of us laughing as leaves rain down on us. Maureen's photos speak for themselves - but you also get a real professional who manages to be everywhere yet not ever in the way. Oh, and she uploaded a few images to Facebook that night, emailed a dozen more the next day and uploaded the rest of the images (over 850!) just 2.5 weeks after the wedding! After all the horror stories I've heard about couples waiting months (or longer) it was awesome to receive the images so quickly. She, with our permission, also uploaded many of them to her Facebook page making it really easy to share them with friends and family. Thank goodness she was, too. If we didn't know her, we might not have found her, and that would have been a huge loss. Other folks have talked plenty about how easy Maureen is to work with, and it's all true. She manages to walk the very fine line between friendly and professional, she has unfailing energy, and a can-do attitude. You know how the Marines talk about Improvising, Adapting and Overcoming? She has exactly that mindset. But here's the ONE most important thing when selecting a photographer. Her photos make us look good. Each picture tells a story. Some are epic, some are intimate, some are joyous or thoughtful or profound. There's the one of the two of us in front of a window that looks like a French new-wave movie (seriously, she made me look like Yves Montand, it was great!). There's the one of me and my Best Man locked in serious discussion before the wedding that's so dramatic my father-in-law refers to it as a "Jack and Bobby" shot. There's the one from our engagement shoot that sits near the door of our apartment, a photo we look at every time we come home, that I won't describe because I can't do it justice. We hired Nora and Solare Wedding Photography after interviewing 11 other photographers. Nora stood out from the pack immediately with her professional communication and attention to our wedding and us as a couple. She didn't treat us like just one of her many clients -- she wanted to learn about what was most important to us about our day, so she could focus on those elements when capturing our wedding. Preparation was smooth sailing -- Nora had well-defined forms to help her understand our timeline and gave helpful feedback. We had a ridiculously long day (prep - first look - ceremony - ice cream social - pictures at church - outdoor pictures - reception) and Nora helped us figure out how to integrate the formal portraits and group pictures we wanted into the activity of our day. Day of, Nora and her assistant were some combination of saints and miracle workers. There was a good deal of early drama (prep running behind, left hotel late for ceremony, etc) that lead to bride-freak-outs multiple times, but Nora and her assistant kept their cool and capture the moment and kept us moving along. There was not a shot missed nor photo op rushed -- everything was perfect. We received our photos back about six weeks after our wedding, and I was blown away by the depth of expression and emotion that Nora captured. Every smile, every funny face, every nervous expression, every joyous and loving moment was documented for us. Nora also responded quickly and professionally to changes to exposure that I requested on some photos. I couldn't have been happier with the final product. Who showed up to our wedding day was a woman with a very poor attitude, which was noted by our vendors as well as our wedding party. Jill's photos are nice, but nothing spectacular. She provided the same photo with many different filters which felt like a waste. Many of our photos with family members look very awkward due to placement, and large amounts of space between people. Jill always seemed to have something going on, which she absolutely brought with her to work. Rather unfortunate as someone who promises to capture the best day of your life, while radiating negativity and a piss poor mood. I was unfortunately pressured by Jill to write a stellar review prior to receiving our photos. She made me feel terrible stating that her business was in need of reviews as business had been slow. Super unprofessional, and makes you wonder how many of the 4-5 star reviews are actually accurate. Given that she still had ALL of our wedding photos, I felt that I had no choice. I tried to side step and wait until we had our actual photos but she basically harassed us and guilted us in to it. Jill should probably consider photographing something besides weddings, perhaps nature or animals. Feel free to roll the dice and give her a try, but hiring Jill as our photographer was single handedly the worst decision we made regarding our wedding. Now we are forced to re-visit this terrible experience every time we look at our photos. We honestly wish we had my brother-in-law who is a amateur photographer capture our day. With absolutely no experience, he would have done a better job.
