Great friendly service and they have a good selection too! Ordered some smelts, squid, sardines, and mussels to make treats for my dog and when I saw they also had some prepared items, I ordered some crab cakes for myself.

Anastasi Seafood was the first place I was taken on a date when I moved to Philly. It was a wonderful experience and I've dined quite a few times since. It's a seafood market as well as restaurant, ensuring the freshness of the food. It's probably better to take a taxi there unless you're lucky enough to find parking or want to pay the exuberant fees of the nearby garages. Depending on where you're coming from. But it's very slim pickings. Pat's & Geno's is close by, as well as a host of other restaurants and bars. It's located right in the middle of the bustling Italian Market. Though I heard they moved recently to make way for more capitalism. The decor is minimal. Inside looks like a standard fish market with different, fish, crustaceans, shellfish etc on display on ice. It does not smell bad or fishy etc. considering your dining in a seafood market. It is however very cold. So bring a sweater or jacket for sure. There's a full bar on one side. Tables with chairs diner style , the menu is written on blackboards in different color hues hanging above the seafood display counter and bar. It can be cramped and I hate the tables near the restroom or the swinging doors where servers are coming in and out with your food. No frills, you don't need to dress up, not romantic. But the food and service is exceptional. The first time I dined, we had the seafood bruschetta and calamari to start. The bruschetta was delicious shrimp, scallop, avocado, tomato, onion and Parmesan cheese. You get three pieces. The bread is toasted but gives way to soft center. The calamari was typical fried tubes you get. They were tender and with a squeeze of a lemon and dipped in the marinara tasty just not my preferred way of having them. My date got the shrimp & scallop Marsala, I got a soft shell crab special served with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. I liked his entree over mine. But both were good. The Marsala was tasty with its rich umami flavor, subtle sweetness and herbaceous. The soft shell crab was flaky, crunchy, buttery slightly sweet soft meat. The sides however were uninspired. The mixed vegetables reminded me of school cafeteria and the mashed potatoes were a little to stiff for my liking. The next time I dined I had the shrimp & crab chowder to start. It was heavenly. Creamy, rich but not too heavy, full of crab and shrimp and they're not stingy with the oyster crackers. A hint of spice would take it over the top. For entree I got the pescatore it contains shrimp, mussels, crab and clams. I got it in the white sauce, can't go wrong with garlic, shallots, white wine and butter. I got some bread to sop up the broth. The red sangria is delicious and the watermelon margarita is my favorite cocktail when available. On other occasions I got things from the market and the prices were reasonable and the always fresh. I'll definitely be back when blue crab is in season.

Parking here is street parking, however there are plenty parking garages at walking distance. This restaurant is way part the more touristic area and at fist glance is not a place that promises much, but once you step in, things change. They have a fish market adjacent to the restaurant that may be a little odd at fist but I promise that it is worth the try. We came in for oysters and a couple of drinks, a quick in and out. The staff here was SUPER friendly and accommodating, the service was so quick and nice. OYSTER- we had a dozen of oysters, they were fresh and super tasty, they even went the extra step of loosen them up from the shell for us. The price was reasonable as well and the presentation of the oysters was on point! This place is truly a HIDDEN GEM! overall we had. great experience, a quick in and out! the dish cam out in a very quick amount of time and the ambiance was perfect too! super worth the try and I do think that this place is a winner!

I wanted seafood for my birthday so I thought I can't go wrong with a seafood restaurant that has been around for almost a century. I asked my girlfriend to order me the mini combo, a platter of fried shrimp, crabcakes and scallops. Once the platter arrived I started with the fried shrimp. The first one I had was a large butterflied shrimp fried to perfection. I was so happy as I dipped it in the cocktail sauce and ate it! But then the next 2 shrimp were much smaller. Booo! What a tease that first shrimp was! The crabcake is a fried crabcake ball. It had good crabcake flavor and was perfectly fried. The scallops were fried as well and tasty. The platter includes a lot of fries. But they were cold and not crispy. I barely ate any. I see that it's possible for Anastasi to still be a top seafood restaurant even after all these years. If I was at the restaurant they probably would have served me 3 large shrimp and the fries would have been warm & crisp. But I can only review what was actually delivered to me. I'll probably give the place another try post pandemic.

Reasonably priced seafood close to home. I purchased a few lobster tails for my lobster mac and they were of great quality! So excited that I found this place! The person at the counter wasn't as helpful as I would've liked but I got what I needed and was out! I will be back for all my seafood needs.

Came in to get some shrimp for dinner. Place is relatively small but lots of fresh choices! Service was good. The shrimp were cleaned and even the tail was removed. Highly recommend.

Anastasi Seafood in the Italian Market area of South Philly

For more than 80 years in Philadelphia's legendary Italian Market, Anastasi has been purveying seafood. It is one of my go-to places in Philly for my fish and crab and shellfish fixes. One can eat-in here or takeout. Well now it's August in Philadelphia and it is def time for some local blue crabs and so Anastasi is right where I headed. I ordered a seafood feast beginning with a shrimp & blue crab chowder - filling and tasty! A loaf of Italian bread arrived followed by a serving of blue crabs. You can order these crustaceans clean or dirty and with a variety of gravies - including all 'the works.' Go for it! I didn't stop here and decided on a fried oyster platter with French fries and fresh slaw. Naturally at this point, a lot of the food was going home with me. Oh don't forget your Philly lager which augments the taste of blue crabs perfectly. Everyone was friendly here including the waiter Eric who can give an oral history of Anastasi Seafood. If you are from these parts, you probably have already been to Anastasi .... and if you are new, put it down as another Philadelphia tradition to try!

Loved this place!! We came for lunch on a Tuesday and it was pretty much perfect! We weren't expecting there seating inside to be as cozy and nice as it was - we kinda of thought it was just a seafood market! But the food was excellent, especially the fried smelts - which were our favorites!

We revisited Anastasi for takeout over the weekend, and I'm so glad we did! The pasta dishes were jumping out at us this time, so my husband ordered the linguini with mussels (red sauce) and I went with the lobster pasta, which came not only with a very generous portion of lobster tail, but also jumbo lump crabmeat, shrimp, and scallops, in a blush sauce. We started with clams casino which I have to admit I'm extremely picky about. My Grandmom's recipe is my gold standard and I've yet to find a restaurant that comes close. My husband thought they were good, but I'd probably opt for something else as a starter in the future. The pastas were priced in the twenties and thirties which I was fine with for a nicer meal on the weekend. However, the portions were sized to feed multiple people! My husband's linguini and mussels came in a small bucket while my lobster pasta arrived in a small aluminum tray, like the ones you see for catering! We enjoyed two hearty dinners plus one lunch thanks to these generous portions. Definitely looking forward to more Anastasi nights!

We ordered catering for a family event during COVID. They were super accommodating and responsive. Everything was perfect in our order! Mussels were cooked to perfection, and lobster bisque was amazing. Be sure not to miss out on their desserts, either! We tried their chocolate and tiramisu cakes, and they were truly a great ending to our meal.

Fun place, off the beaten path, not touristy. Wear or bring a jacket. It's a fish market and it's cold inside. Made a reservation 'cause reviews say it's always so busy but we were lucky. Not too busy. Table available really right away. Octopus was very good. But it's mostly salad. Scallops over spinach with brown butter were HEAVENLY. House wine is fine. Cute, unpretentious place.

Anastasi is a low key spot for excellent seafood. It's located in the Italian Market and is ultimately a seafood market, with a few tables and a full service bar. I eat here every couple months because it's my mom's favorite restaurant, and I have never had bad service. We came to celebrate my mom's birthday a few weeks ago and the server gave her a complimentary slice of lemon cake (so yummy) and I found that very sweet of her! The seafood is always fresh and delicious. The happy hour, which consists of beer/wine specials and oysters, is awesome and I highly recommend coming early to enjoy it. For dinner, they'll cook you any fish however you want it and their seafood pasta dishes never disappoint. I started off with lobster bisque then had the crab cake sandwich with fries for my meal, and everything was great. Don't forget to ask about their dinner specials that day because there is always something ridiculously good as a special. I always leave Anastasi full and happy and can't wait for my next visit!!

But, on…read morethe multi-festival Saturday, second of May in the year 2026, I can definitively say that I've now tried the little seafood spot on one of our favorite corners, that we're almost always just passing by to get to Time. First, the friendly, informative service: in an oyster bar with a rotating fresh selection, that's an underrated must. We were seated outside, given a rundown of the menu and "as it's ready" flow of the kitchen. We got a pair of cocktails, the Melonata and a Tequila Julep. I think the Melonata might be my new summer favorite. It looks like Ecto Cooler but doesn't give a distinct feeling of growing diabetes while drinking it. In grown up terms, it was well balanced, not too sour, not too sweet, and deeply herbal, fruity, and refreshing at the same time. The Tequila Julep was a Mint Julep with tequila instead of bourbon. It was good, though it's hard to mess that set of ingredients up. We got a selection of oysters and a shooter. Every oyster was distinct and different. Felt like there were no "different on the menu but same in flavor profile" that you can sometimes run into. This implies it's well curated. I have no idea, because I'm not an expert fishmonger, nor do I know whether that term specifically applies here - case in point. Anyway, I got 2 from Washington State, and another from Cape May. The first WA was large, buttery, and had the satisfying chew of young coconut flesh. Semi sweet. The second was smaller, sharper, and briny as hell - tasted of the ocean. And finally, the Cape May was mild and fresh, a good balance between the two others. It was a perfect little tasting menu that I'd created by just ordering the first three guys off the list. Not sure what selection came with the shooter, but the concoction in the shot glass shooter was bright green and pickly. Glad I got it as a contrast to the classics with what I assumed was red wine vinegar. Besides that, we snacked on salmon avocado toast with the Calabrian Chili Oil. It was also very, very good. Sometimes things are better than the sum of their parts. This is true here, but it's also worth noting that the individual parts - the bread, the smoked salmon, the chili oil, the avocado, the shaved onions - were excellent in their own right. We will be back for sure.

I also added Sausage, which was $1 extra. I was very happy with the Snow Crab, because the legs were nice and thick. I used the cracker tool to get the meat out and it worked pretty well. The crab meat was delightfully tender, flaky, and was full of flavor made even tastier in the buttery garlic sauce. The shrimp had to be peeled, but was quite juicy and succulent. The veggies were fresh, soft, and cooked perfectly. The sausage was wonderfully well seasoned. I also got to try Coconut Shrimp, Hush Puppies, and Sweet Potato Fries. The Coconut Shrimp was lightly breaded, amazingly crispy, with the great taste of coconut. The Hush Puppies were also decent, and satisfyingly crunchy. Sweet potato fries were yummy and addicting. Service was great. Our server was friendly and on top of it, making sure we were taken care of. I was certainly happy with meal.
