I've been coming here for years and I'm giving it 4 stars because the guys in the nursery are always awesome. But the women inside at the cashiers are consistently unfriendly and even rude. Maybe they should be trained by the nursery guys on how to deal with customers? Management needs to address this as it's been an issue for years now, they make me not want to go inside. read more

The manager David Carrillo is the BEST; he's attentive, listens carefully, and knows so much about so much. I've had several "how do I..?" questions and he offers suggests and a variety of choices for problem solving. And the rest of the store employees are SO NICE. My boyfriend loves this place so he insisted on it when we went looking for a new indoor plant. Pros. Decent selection of plants, less inventory for indoor plants tho. Kind gentleman who helped us from start to finish and made sure we had the right soil for the plant we picked out. Parking was simple in their private lot. Cons: annoying man who checked us out inside, wasn't a fan. The prices are a little high, but you won't break the bank. Overall, I'd go back because it's nearby but I'm definitely open to trying other nurseries out. read more

I just love this place. Everyone who works here is so friendly and the garden guys are particularly wonderful. They are so helpful with what to plant and even go so far as to help me to my car with plants and soil. Their knowledge is so evident if you ask them a question (or two) - I don't ever see myself buying a plant without them. Anawalt also has a smaller cozier feel which I appreciate. Lowe's and Home Depot can be a bit daunting and impersonal. read more

I went in today to bring an item that had a stripped screw. I was unable to remove it myself and I was told that Andy who works here might be able to help. He checked out my situation and after 15 minutes he finally managed to remove it. He was super nice and helpful and I couldn't be more grateful. Highly recommend! read more

The store has a very small section for houseplants at higher prices but they do have some very cheap terra cotta pots and watering dishes. I special ordered a very, very large terra cotta pot which they sourced and got for me. It needed it to be delivered which was done immediately. On delivery, which normally is curbside, David and Edwin located the pot where I wanted it. It was a huge ask given the tremendous weight of the pot, the stairs and gates involved. It has been an exceptional customer service experience, especially in an age where you are hard pressed to find an associate at a large box hardware store to unlock the padlock protecting the simple item on the shelf you need. From the very first request for the special order to the final delivery it has been far beyond any and all expectations. David is a tremendous asset to the company and clearly he has been given the latitude to provide such service. This is an old fashioned customer service focused operation and five stars are not enough. read more

I've been a customer at Anawalt for approximately 4 years. I've found its selection to be decent, and I've been generally satisfied with the customer service. Until today (11/13/21 @ 8:15 - 8:40 am.) The nursery man on duty today occupied himself with other tasks even while he was aware that a line of customers was waiting to complete purchases. When another employee radioed for him to attend to the customers, he ignored the request for ten minutes. When I asked him why he did that, he denied that he had been contacted by the other employee -- even though I witnessed her contacting him. His attitude was insolent, unapologetic, and dismissive, rather than kind or conciliatory. Stores that purposely de-prioritize their customers do not deserve any. From here on, I'm going to Lowe's, or Sunset, or any number of superior businesses. read more

This is my go to spot for my gardening needs. They tend to carry higher quality brands and products compared to Home Depot, so it could be a bit pricier here. Also, as someone who does not own any wood work tools, it's actually much faster to get wood cutting services here than at Home Depot. Much better customer service. read more

The hardware store is inclusive and has pretty much all of the standard items, i.e. hardware, garden tools, etc. at regular retail prices. However, DO NOT BUY WOOD THERE. Their wood is cheap quality, far below what you'd get at a Home Depot or Lowe's, and the prices are not commensurate with the crummy quality of the wood. The people are very nice and helpful, the location is excellent, and it's a really good neighborhood hardware store, much like an Ace or True Value, except that Ace or True Value have much better quality wood. The lumber department here was so helpful this past month! I went to six different hardware stores, and this one was BY FAR THE BEST. Both Andy and Jesus went above and beyond! Helping me with my project and showing me exactly which tools and parts to buy so that I could complete my work properly the first time, instead of guessing and having to start all over again like with most other places. It was a very hot day, and most workers would have gotten annoyed after the first hour or two of questions, but they were very patient, and answered all my questions throughout the day, and helped me through multiple trial and errors until we found the right fit. I definitely would not have finished in time without all their help. Its pretty close to the freeway and definitely worth the trip if you have a carpentry project to get done. read more

I've been coming here years. I'm a contractor and find their location very convenient. HOWEVER. The owners/management needs to quit being cheap. The HVAC is broken and has been broken for a while. Every time I go in here I feel like I'm in a Bangladeshi sweat shop- One of my older clients was with me last week looking at material for her kitchen and she said she felt like she was having a "severe heat stroke" ... This is no place to shop inside during the heat. Not to mention the multiple roof leaks it has. In short staff is cool but owners need to open that wallet and pay the dinero to fix the roof and put some Trabajo in on that Air Conditioner. read more

I went in several times within a week to have some VERY specific pieces of wood cut and these guys and gals were so nice and helpful. Everyone from the lumber department, to my man Jeff in the nursery, to the security guy who is just the sweetest, the ladies at check out... EVERYONE! Just the best people. I've picked up a new hobby: Terrariums! Anawalt is much more personable and unique than Home Depot. Home Depot didn't even know what horticulture charcoal was. They sent me to the BBQ department! I called Anawalt and spoke to Sandy. He has been working here for over 10 years, but with botany for much longer. He was knowledgable, welcoming, and had the charcoal I needed. The nursery is sweet because it's sectioned off in the corner of the private parking lot. Lovely displays. They have hanging humming bird feeders under the covered area and they were flitting around all over the place. So happy and carefree. Sandy said there is a nest that grooms little fat babies. They are fatter than the adults because they eat and don't fly around as much. They hang out on the plant wires. Everything looked healthy and vibrant. I love the selection of their little succulents. It's nice because they have a lot of singles which are convenient for putting together terrariums. I'll be back for sure! Parking: Private lot with plenty of spaces. Not sure how crowded it gets on the weekends, but you can park on the connected side street also. Plenty open spots there too. read more
