I went to Anchor & Anvil on a weekday and ordered one of the fall specials. Pros: lots of space/different areas to sit. Cons: I wasn't a fan of the syrups used for the latte, as they had a very artificial taste (you know the one) and it was overly sweet for a combo of fall savory flavors. What a cute coffee shop! Came in on a Sunday around 11am and ordered a dirty chai and two donuts to go. The girls behind the counter were super friendly and bagged my donuts and made the drink in a timely manner. They offer a decent variety of baked goods and other small business items at the front of the cafe by the ordering counter. There are a bunch of different seating options and there was plenty available when I stopped in. The bathroom definitely took me back to grade school, but was clean and had soap and paper towels. The dirty chai was delicious, but a tad sweet. The donuts that I got were a custard with chocolate icing and a "special turtle". The donuts are delicious. Would recommend and will be back. read more

Happened upon this charming cafe and was delighted!! Had a "smokestack" coffee, which was amazing! Food was hearty and delicious (breakfast sammich and burrito). Anchor & anvil is a Ben Avon staple! Friendly service, great drinks & atmosphere. I work from here often and enjoy the space as well as the pastry options. I'm not a coffee drinker but they have a great variety of fresh loose leaf teas! Their blueberry muffins are my favorite. They have several styles of seating from couches to lounge or large tables for group meetings. The building has a lot of history and you'd like you can take the time to read about it on the wall in the back of the coffee shop. read more

I discovered this local coffee shop while dog sitting and super excited since there aren't too many options in this immediate area. I loved that they sold local products - hello Millie's! - and that they had cute names for drinks. I went a few times and enjoyed all the drink I got - great lattes! I'm not sure if the bake goods are made in house or not but they were just okay. The space itself was surprisingly big. A great range of seating options. They also have seats at the coffee bar which is cute. I really wanted to love this place - but the service while not bad was underwhelming. All the staff I interacted with seemed a little cold and I'm not sure if that's just how they are or if it was because I was wearing my mask? Either way I expect a little more friendliness. Stopped in on my way through the area, great atmosphere in this quaint little shop. Few groups having meetings over coffee I have no doubt this is an every day occurrence with the atmosphere in mind. An absolute gem. The drip coffee was very tasty and well brewed, there's a large selection of teas, and the seating area is huge and comfortable. There's tables large and small, plus cozy chairs and couches spread out in the large space. It also really has a local feel, with friendly servers and long open hours--and they very generously kept it open Christmas Eve morning, too. read more

Have you ever had a mixed bag experience when it comes to coffee? It does not happen often for me, and that is what this was. The staff was awesome - but the 'artisan' coffee blends for sale on the wall were an average of $18-20 and the 'almond milk chai latte' i ordered was on the list of items i will not order again. I am sure the black coffee is great, but unfortunately I did not try so you will have to test that out for ya-self. It also looks like these folks are operating during & while COVID-19 health sanctions are in order the area which I think is wonderful, and hope everyone stays safe. No visible #LGBTIA representation at this space, and would love if they had a flag of some sort up the next time I come (if I ever find myself back this way!) Comfortable and inviting. Expect great coffee at a reasonable price served by welcoming and attentive staff. While the coffee is excellent, there is also a good selection of teas. Neat coffee shop. This coffee shop has a variety of roasters coffee available. I think I saw 5 different brands. All seem to be excellent. I did a yelp search for coffee roaster and this sho came up. From what I can tell this is not a roaster. It is just a reseller shop. Either way great coffee and a larger area for sitting and visiting with friends or working. Good food as well. This is a fantastic spot to get some work done. They have a large amount of seating in different varieties (tables and chairs, countertop/stools, sofas, oversize chairs, etc) and they aren't piled on top of each other so you have room to spread out. The wifi was outstanding too. I had one of their specials that was called the Smokehouse Latte and it was unbelievable! It was a mocha latte but with a hint of chili powder and I have a weakness for spicy chocolate! The lady at the counter was very helpful and brought my drink to my table and even let me pay later because I had a Skype meeting that was about to start. Coffee was great. This review is for the Coraopolis location. I loved my little trip out to the Coraopolis Anchor & Anvil. I was looking for somewhere to spend a little time between town and the airport and spent about an hour there right before closing on a Sunday. It was oh so very quiet there, not like the more urban coffee shops with competitive seating. There was an entire 3-seater couch and 2 easy chairs up for grabs. There were a couple other people in the shop. The barista was really friendly and interacted with super-shy me, which takes some doing. I had read the menu in advance and had my heart set on one of their signature drinks, The Parking Chair. I read the menu again anyway, and decided to order it, even after finding out that it is pre-mixed and thus cannot be made decaf. They promised it would taste like melted espresso ice cream, and live up to that it did! I don't 100% know what they put in it, but they say they use real ingredients, and it tasted that way. This is not something to get on a regular basis as it was quite sweet, but it was a nice treat. I liked the open and airy space, the minimalist/industrial vibe, the peace and quiet. I liked that I had somewhere cozy to relax. I took over an easy chair and noticed they had a couple of issues of a magazine for coffee and tea professionals called The Cup. I didn't get anything done I'd planned to do because I read this magazine cover to cover--it was a great & inspiring read. I'm looking forward to trying more of their signature drinks, either in Ben Avon (where is Ben Avon anyway?) or in Coraopolis, probably on the way to or from the airport. PS: Coraopolis has a bit of a downtown so it's a good place to take a walk, too, if you make this coffee shop a destination. read more

I got a signature beverage called 'the parking chair' which was an iced espresso drink with cream and some other secrets - one of which I'm pretty sure is some vanilla. We talked with Andy, who is cited on the website as the go-to guy for some Q&A and he explained the history of the building and the story behind the name. They have a nice selection of craft coffees- you can smell the quality as soon as you walk in. The staff is friendly and happy to help with your selection. I stopped by here this morning for breakfast and coffee with my wife. We were debating about whether or not to make Americano's or drip coffee whenever I remembered a Groupon for a local coffee shop. So after purchasing the Groupon we headed over there. The inside of this place is quite spacious and has a lot of nice seating options from couches to an old diner type counter to a bar by the windows and even more. Suffice it to say that my wife and I both loved the interior. The barrister's here were also quite friendly and helpful. For my breakfast I went with the key lime scone and an Americano while my wife went with an Americano and a nutella peanut butter muffin. I started off with my scone which was quite large and hard on the outside while soft on the inside. It was quite enjoyable although I am not so sure that I got any of the key lime taste. After finishing my scone I tried my coffee and I have to admit that it was pretty bitter. Thinking that it may have to do with the scone I just ate, I tried to cleanse my palate before trying it again. Nope, still super bitter. I am not sure if it was the coffee itself or whether the espresso had been over-extracted. My wife thought the same so I am hoping it was just a bad batch of coffee. She did enjoy her muffin though. The bottom line for both me and my wife is that we would stop by here again in the future. We both loved the space (5 stars) and service (5 stars) so would like to give the coffee (2 1/2 stars) another chance. read more

I would say for how great Anchor and Anvil is, but their coffee is low to okay. My perspective is that Anchor and Anvil is a great shop, besides their coffee. I think if you go there, try their 'blended drinks' or their smoothies,or their rice crispy treats, donuts, brownies, or muffins etc. Yet I suggest don't try the coffee. read more

Had a lovely experience at this cafe that I had heard about through one of my colleagues. I came here the other day to grab some coffee and catch up on some work. The environment is warm and spacious, with plenty of seating available by the window or on comfortable couches for a more relaxed feel. What I really enjoyed about this place is not only their wide selection of baked goods, but also their food options.
