My wife and I recently relocated from Vancouver to New York. Knowing well that rental apartments were a hot commodity in the Big Apple, we had contacted a few brokers prior to our departure from Vancouver. Our main request was that they find us an apartment with an in-suite washer and dryer in Astoria, Queens. The agents wanted us to contact them as soon as we arrived so they could begin the search - it was "no problem", they could find us one with ease. Upon arrival, I contacted our 'friendly' brokers. All except two had the decency to return our e-mails and phone calls. One actually e-mailed back saying that an apartment with a washer/dryer combo was unheard of anywhere in New York, let alone Queens, and that we should forget about looking for one! Talk about pompous, arrogant attitudes and we have not even met them yet. So, I'm like, whatever happened to the helpful, decent and hardworking people who call themselves Realtors in New York? I guess they are a dying breed unlike in days gone by, where they would hustle to appease clients. Perhaps, given the fact that there is a demand for real estate in New York, they are too lazy to walk the beat and rely solely on owners who come to them with their listings. Long story short, a couple days later while browsing through real estate websites we stumbled upon a listing by Ms. Alma Salaj of Anchor Associates and sent her an e-mail. She contacted me right away seeking more details of my search and offered to assist us. Alma followed up with a courtesy call the following day to make sure we were all on the same page. After our conversation, she repeated the requests we had, including the washer/dryer request, and said she will find exactly what we wanted. I was skeptical, but I guess she was not, and I'll get to that in a moment. That very evening I received a call from Alma. Voila! Not one, she had found us several apartments in Astoria and vouched, we would be happy with what we saw. She also took upon herself to make appointments with building managers, to show us the apartments without us asking. Alma made the time to call around and even personally checked the buildings prior to offering them to us. Two days later, we visited the buildings. Alma was correct we were very happy with the listings she had picked. They were not only within our price range; they also had the amenities we were looking for and in our preferred neighborhood. We were surprised and relieved at the same time. What we noticed too, was that Alma appeared to have a very good rapport with the building managers and Supers in the buildings we visited. She clearly did her homework prior to committing and showed how much she cared. Alma was not about wasting our time or hers! What struck us most about Alma is that she was respectful, genuine in her dealings and upfront about everything, including her broker's fee, which was one month, paid by the owners (No Fee). There was no second-guessing anything. She was patient explaining how things worked in New York and prepared us beforehand. She also did a walkthrough of the apartments with us, helped with the lease signing process and was there every step of the way - representing our interests. Our company relocates people in and out of New York all the time, and because of the positive experience with Alma, we have given her name and Anchor Associates to our Human Resources Department for future referrals. Hasani Eidenberger was spectacular to work with. I began my search very early, way before I was actually going to be able to sign a lease with the start-date I wanted. Hasani knew this, but he still took me out for a day of viewings 3-4 weeks in advance of when I could begin my search in earnest. On that set of viewings, he showed me a huge range of apartments covering the full spectrum of my price range (as opposed to only showing me the top of my price range), was knowledgeable about each one and was incredibly pleasant to hang out with for half a day. In contrast, most agents I contacted that early told me to get back in touch in a month. Hasani and I were in contact after the initial tour and before the weekend I was actually going to be able to sign a lease, staying in touch about my ever-changing preferences for apartment and neighborhood and planning our next outing. The next outing ended up being last weekend. A couple days before, Hasani and I put together a list of the apartments I wanted to see across three different neighborhoods. We began around 11am on Saturday and finished up around 5:30pm. We saw almost all of the apartments on the list (only missing the ones for which the other agent did not show up) and then sat down to go over what we'd seen and weigh the options. Hasani spent probably 90 minutes (at least) with me after the viewings to discuss pros and cons of each, begin making inquiries regarding the apartments I was interested in and generally talk me through my thought process with his expertise. We parted ways early Saturday evening. After that, we spent most of Sunday on the phone and texting to try to determine which apartment I should go with and trying to contact the appropriate agents to finalize a deal once we decided. For the last week, I have legitimately not texted anyone in my life more than Hasani. His responsiveness is incredibly fast, whether it's 7am or 11pm, weekday or weeknight. On Sunday, during the heat of my decision process, Hasani was there every step of the way, making the experience less stressful and bringing perspective to my own feelings about each apartment, often pointing out things I would not have thought of myself. We talked not only about general feelings on the apartments, but also about practical steps, suggested by Hasani, to get to a decision. Ultimately, I made the decision on Sunday evening. I was approved, thanks to Hasani's constant contact with the other agent, on Monday morning, and I signed my lease Monday night. While it may be clichéd to say, Hasani worked tirelessly to make sure I not only got the best possible apartment for my needs, but he was also a joy to spend time with, so much so that several other agents at apartments we viewed thought we were just friends going to see apartments together before we explained our roles. This made a pretty stressful experience much, much easier on me. I will be recommending Hasani to any of my friends that are searching for an apartment, and I'm very pleased that I placed my trust in him, because I couldn't be happier with the way the process went or the apartment I ultimately chose. read more

This is my second move in New York City and my second time using Anchor Associates. My first broker was Nissim Oron. He was very good; however, he is no longer doing rentals but has instead focus on sales (and I believe now works for Keller Williams NYC). Since I had such a good experience with the brokers at Anchor the first time, I decided that I would use them again for this move as well. I happened upon Jason Day while conducting my search and honestly I couldn't have been happier. Finding an apartment in NYC is a daunting process. Most places are up for immediate availability so there is almost no point in starting your search more than a month out except to maybe get a feel for price points on various apartment size/layout/area combinations. It's highly unlikely that the apartment you see listed in the NY Times two months out will be available for you when you are ready to move. That being said there are a few things that you want from a broker: (a) someone who is knowledgeable about that area for which you are interesting in moving (b) aware of and knowledgeable about management practices of the buildings you are interesting in (c) respectful of your time and budgetary constraints In this regard, Jason was an excellent broker. I had emailed Jason about a few listing I had seen on the internet, along with my budget (min/max), apartment size needs/likes. In less than an hour I had a response from him as well as an acknowledgment of apartments which fit my constraints. He let me know upfront what I would be able and not be able to find as well as which areas would most likely have the apartments I was looking for. I was able to meet with him the next day and nearly every apartment he showed me met my needs and some even had a few of the "nice to haves" as well. Moreover, Jason was able to give me insight into which companies had the best management policies, where I could get concessions on rent, and other important tidbits one not familiar with these building would not have. Not once during our meetings did I feel pressures or rushed to make a decision. Nor was I shown apartments that exceeded my budget restrictions or were obviously unsuitable for what I was looking for. I instead had the better problem of having to choose from multiple units which fit my needs and budged, something I was not expecting. I started looking for an apartment with my SO in mid-June. We had to switch to three different brokers, from three different agencies. They were disappointingly flakey, frequently with only one apartment to show at a time! It was inefficient and frustrating, looking at one crummy, expensive apartment after another. July rolled around and we were running out of time. I went through craiglists and waded through a swamp of shadiness and unprofessionalism - vague listings with mispellings and no names, business cards that did not match the info posted on the office, realtor offices that were papered up and vacant AFTER I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO GO THERE, brokers with no places to show, brokers who told me I would need to make a nonrefundable cash deposit to hold the apartment and stop shows. And then I found Karl Folke's Anchor Associates ad on craigslist. It had the location, amenities, and prices clearly listed. It looked professional. The prices were more than what I was comfortable with, but I had nothing to lose, so I texted him and asked him if he could show me apartments that day. He responded within minutes. He asked me what my price range was, and what features I was looking for - something which many of the other brokers did not do until after I trekked over there! Karl was upfront and honest about I could expect with my range, and what places he would show me would reflect that. I appreciated this - I did not want to waste my time seeing places I had no hope of getting. Karl also told me I would be blown away by the units he had to show. He was speaking the truth. Karl spent hours showing me multiple apartments, explaining the amenities and differences with each. He was courteous, articulate, and knowledgeable. He listened to my concerns, and understood what I prioritized. I never felt strung along or deceived. Also importantly, I never felt like I was given a hard sell or pressured to take an apartment. Communication was excellent - I did not have to wait long to hear from him via email, text, or phone. Thanks to him, my SO and I moved in last week into a beautiful apartment in a neighborhood that we are thrilled with. Since he was a no-fee broker, the money we saved from not having to pay a fee enabled us to rent a nicer place than otherwise! I've been meaning to write a review but just haven't had the chance to. But Laurena Patarkatsi definitely deserves a review so here I finally am!! My boyfriend and I decided to look for a 1 bedroom to move out from a studio. I filled out the contact form on Anchor's website and received a call from Laurena shortly after. Mind you, this was a Saturday so I was really surprised to be receiving a call! She asked for some more details of my needs/wants in the search, and said she would be able to show an apartment the next day (on Sunday!) I was already wow'ed from that point. Working with Laurena was such a pleasure! She's so sweet, and although it's impossible to completely negate the stress of moving, she definitely helped make the entire process as painless as possible. One of the major problems that I had going into the apartment search is that it's really difficult (close to impossible) for me to be able to take off work or leave any earlier than 6, and I struggled looking for realtors that would be able to show me places after that. But Laurena was very accomodating and coordinated everything to be able to show the apartments after work hours! There were so many days where she was out showing places to us until 8 or 9pm, and I really really appreciated that. We also had quite a few restrictions coming into the search with a relatively low budget, and it seemed hard being able to find a decent place but Laurena proved us wrong!!! She showed us a lot of different places over a course of a few weeks and was very patient with us despite how indecisive we were being. I really appreciated how she didn't push us to make a decision and was very understanding of our needs. Wen we finally decided on a place, she was again very helpful throughout the entire application process. The place we got isn't big (what can we expect living in the Big Apple?) but I am still happy with where we ended up. This review is for my recent experience with Harry Ego. Moving apartments in Manhattan is typically a nightmare with so many different options, floor plans, prices, locations, etc. but Harry helped transform the experience and turn it from an enormous undertaking into a simple task. It started when I responded to an apartment listing on one of the main apartment sites. I was less than thrilled about the space once I saw it for myself. Instead of just ending the engagement after the showing, he asked us some very thorough questions to get an idea of what I was looking for. It's not that uncommon for this to happen, but Harry's knowledge of the market and the apartments available really showed when he came back with several listings that met all of my criteria. I don't typically give a second chance after having a bad first experience but Harry's confidence helped sway my opinion and give a few of his new listings a shot. The very next apartment wasn't even on the market for a full day when he brought us to see it. Not 5 seconds had passed before I was sold and knew that he found my new home. It met all of the criteria I had laid out (some of which might not have been so easy) and I'm now in love with the new place. Unlike many other brokers and agents, Harry treated me like a family member. - He took the time to listen to my needs and only show me apartments that met them - Showed up on time to all appointments - Acted very professional in all of our engagements - Was very clear and precise on all of the required information that was needed during the application process - Gave recommendations for trusted moving companies and temporary wall builders Added Bonus: since we were able to make a quick decision on an apartment that was new to market and apply within 24 hours, he was kind and gave us a reduced price on the fee. Being that Manhattan is one of the most expensive cities, incentives like that always make for a happy client. It was an amazing experience to work with Harry. Bastian is the most knowledgeable and trustworthy broker I have met. After two months searching for the right place I didnt know what to do and I thought I wasnt gonna find an apartment, so I felt really lucky to find him after many really horrible experiences around the city with brokers who made me waste time showing me apartments I was not interested in at all. He understood my needs and worked professionally at all times. He never made me waste time, lied, or gave me any unclear and vague information as many brokers do. He was nice and honest at all times. And I really appreciate that, I just can't bear when people try to disguise and sell lies to you. He was realistic, made the right questions and really good suggestions to find the right place for me. I have to admit he was extremely patient and understanding too when I needed to take my time to think before finally deciding. He wasn't pushy as the ones I met before... The best thing is he only showed me three different apartments before we found the perfect deal for me! And I have to say that I liked all of the three apartments he showed me before I got mine, he never showed me any crappy place... Everything was reasonable, I just was not sure of what I wanted at the beginning and I wanted to view a couple of places before deciding, and he understood! He was always on time to our meetings and explained me everything about each apartment, building, neighborhood, procedures... He knew very well where he was walking and could tell me useful information as where to find groceries around and that kind of stuff. He always explained me the options I had and I was comfortable in all the steps of the process through which he always helped me. I now seriously recommend him to all my friends. I have had this review on my mind frequently lately for two reasons, one is my horrible lateness in giving credit to Melanie, and two, because of the phenomenal job she did for us in finding our daughter an apartment in New York. I have to give partial credit to a cold for our good fortune in finding Melanie. We were introduced quite by accident after our other broker was forced to have Melanie take over for her at a scheduled showing due to sickness. As they say, there is a silver lining in every cloud and Melanie certainly was. She jumped right in and took my wife and daughter by the hand, immediately learning our daughter's preferences as to area, needs, conveniences, safety and budget. Before we knew it, she had a wonderful selection of apartments for them to look at and choose from. Without Melanie's guidance and perseverance it would have been impossible for out of state parents to do so. She was fantastic in her diligence and made us feel as if we were her only clients, which I know not to be true, sometimes working late at night and freely introducing us to people who were able to help smooth the road in many ways. She not only found the perfect apartment, she guided us through the nuances of the paperwork chase all the way to move in day and has followed up even after to make sure everything was satisfactory. Ross Vesselinov was great! My boyfriend contacted him regarding a listing he found online and Ross responded right away to set up an appointment. He had us send our preferences and what we were looking for in an apartment (i.e. budget, # of bedrooms, amenities, etc.) so that he would know which places to show us. Ross took us all over Manhattan for hours one Saturday showing us places that he thought would fit our criteria. He is very knowledgeable about the different areas of the city, which subway lines are nearby, what there is to do in the area, etc. He is also very honest and realistic about what kind of apartment you will be able to get on your budget. Although we were interested in several apartments that he showed us, we ended up having to postpone our move for several months. Ross was completely understanding. We contacted him again in March and he suggested that we start our search this time in Long Island City. Based on our preferences and reactions to the first set of apartments he showed us, he thought that we could likely get more of what we were looking for within our budget in LIC. The first apartment he showed us had everything that we were looking for! We filled out an application that day and now we're living in a beautiful apartment in LIC and loving it!! Overall, this was a great experience and Ross was very helpful and supportive throughout the whole process. He helped us with our application and even came to our lease signing to answer any questions that we might have had. He really listens to what you're looking for and does his best to find you a place that has what you want. I was fortunate enough to have Ross Vesselinov as my broker. Initially, I was in a big rush to find an apartment since my lease was expiring soon. I found Ross online through www.nakedapartments.com and he quickly sent me an email to set up an appointment at my convenience. He also asked me what I was looking for in an apartment (i.e. amenities, rent, size) so he could tailor his search to my preferences. We met Saturday morning and he showed me roughly 10 apartments throughout Midtown over a span of 5-6 hours. It was obvious that Ross had really listened to what I was looking for because each apartment he showed me had some, if not most of my preferences. My broker was Soledad (Sole) Perez from Anchor Associates, and my experience was amazing. My husband and I had to relocate from DC to NYC, and only had 1 weekend we could go up to look at apartments. I had emailed many brokers about 1.5-2 months prior to our move date, and everyone said I was emailing too far out, and that they couldnt help me until I was several weeks within my move date, except for Sole. Even though I wasnt in need of anything "immediately", she promised to keep in touch with me and continue to look for places within our wants/needs, in a time frame which was closer to our move date. She kept her promise and emailed me back several weeks later, to see if I still needed help. I informed her of the weekend we would be up in NYC, and she took the entire weekend to show us places. We meet with her friday, saturday and sunday, and I was so impressed with her patience, kidness and ability to show us apartments and buildings within our budget and within our requirements. She ended up showing us the perfect place and we were able to apply and sign the lease that weekend! She made sure we were prepared with all our documents as well, which got the application going immediately. She also showed us places where her fee was still only one months rents, which were the exact same places that another broker from Citi Habitats told us his fee was 15% of the years rents (which would have been 2400$ more than her fee)!. She was very helpful, sweet and did a great job at keeping in close touch with us, which in the end allowed up to find an appartment in just one weekend! She is highly recommended! read more

This review is for Donna Hughes. I was moving from Atlanta to NYC and needed to find an apartment. I had originally planned my trip to NYC, but Hurricane Sandy delayed my trip a week. Donna was still able to meet with me and ended up walking around the city with me through a terrible snow storm. She is the best! I was looking for an apartment downtown (preferably West Village) and we looked at several places in the West Village, East Village, Union Square and NoHo. I absolutely fell in love with the apartment I ended up renting, but since it was the second place we saw, she wanted to make sure it was truly what I wanted. We continued to move through the snow storm around the city and finally I was convinced it was what I wanted. Donna was so great to work with. She would help me decide whether the space would fit my stuff and would talk me through how I could lay out the room. It was really helpful for me since this is my first apartment in NYC. After we met with the management company and decided on the place, Donna met me back at the apartment the next day to take measurements before we went to go sign the lease. I really felt like she cared that I found the perfect place for me and it was so exciting! Donna really is wonderful to work with and I would recommend her to anyone moving to NYC (especially if you are from far away). I had been very overwhelmed with the idea of finding an apartment and she immediately was able to calm my nerves by showing me some great apartments. I worked with Susumu Fujita. I have read the other reviews and can't say I know too much about the company I just now about this broker who was assisting me. Susumu first met me and laid down everything, we looked at the apartments I signed up to see and asked him to show me some more and told me my max of $2500 per month but I let him now that is the absolute max and I didn't want to go any further. He took me to apartments between $2,000 to 2,400 so he didn't go to or over my max. He was always avaliable and worked completley around my scheduele, never was he too busy. The fee I paid was lower than the average in New York. Anways after I found the place my credit rating wasn't so great so I had to pay two months deposit instead of one. I had a certain amount in the bank account to pay the opening fees to take the apartment (depsoit, broker fee, first months rent). Because they made me pay two months deposit I didnt have enough to pay the broker fee. I told Susumu this and he let me hold off on his fee until later when I could get the money. I think he waited almost two months for his fee and never harassed me about it. Very kind guy and very understanding. Not only a great broker but a great friend. Intellegent guy good conversation while touring and good knowledge of NY history and building history, educated me a lot on the NYC area. Also a good friend, I remember we were still looking for an apartment and one night I texted him about a great place to go out in NY and he responded. I reached out to Anchor & Associates after not finding anything in my budget with another firm, which was keen to sign me up for apartments that were at least $400 upwards of my price range. I was lucky to get connected to Danny Alzate, who was incredible quick to respond to my initial inquiry that I had sent early on a Friday morning. We met within an hour of contacting him and saw a range of apartments throughout the morning, including the one I am renting now. I was extremely happy with Danny. he was incredibly friendly and patient, unbelievably responsive to my emails at any time of the day and got a hang of what type of areas and apartments I was interested in very quickly. He also gave me very honest advise on the market and stuck close to my budget without trying to up-sell me. Beyond all the hours he spent walking around with me, organizing cabs to see apartments across the city and negotiating the price down for me, he also accompanied me to the contract signing, where he explained many of the items in the contract that were new to me. Danny was 100% interested in making my life easy and as stress free as possible, which I really appreciated after several days of searching for apartments unsuccessfully before. Danny also went far beyond his duties when he took me along to his private ikea trip last week, to help me get the curtains I needed for my apartment. I really have nothing negative to say about this experience and recommend him highly if you are looking for a pain-free and efficient apartment search in New York. read more

After reluctantly realizing I needed a broker's help to assist me in finding a new apartment, I kept stumbling on Anchor Associates with nearly every search I made. So i figured they must be good. The first broker I contacted was Tara McMohan. She was promt in replying to my email and seemed very professional and friendly. I automatically felt comfortable enough to set up an appointment with her. She guided me effortlessly through the Upper East Side, showing me the best of what she had in my budget. She was extremly curtious and charming throughout the entire process. After hearing many a nightmare story about brokers and renting in NY, she truly put me at ease. After finding out I had to relocate to Philly for 8 months for work, I didn't go through with an apartment I fell in love with at a building called The Electra. I thought she would have been annoyed that I backed out, but she completely understood. Towards the end of our correspondence, she asked me if I could write a breif testimonial about my experience working with her, which I gladly agreed to. I've never used Yelp before but I'm starting to explore it now, and there is no better review I could think of as my first than to write about this fantastic agent. Tara was as nice as she could be and even spoke baseball with me when I mentioned I was heading to a Yankee game after our appointment - she really knows baseball too! Renting in New York is a nightmare at the best of times and in the summer it's even worse. Too many people not enough suitable places, frustrating experience! I had to move on fairly short notice at a stressful time. I also had a pretty good idea of what I wanted after spending 8 years in my neighborhood already. I was too busy at work to dedicate much time to the Craigslist approach so opted for a broker even though I didn't really want to spend the money. I'm glad I did. I contacted Bastian Weinold at Anchor Associates (Midtown). He was nothing but encouraging and enthusiastic. It took a first meeting and a few viewings under our belts to help him understand my requirements. He then did his best with the limited inventory to help me find the place that felt right for me. He was not pushy when he could have been. There were places I could have settled on but I was not sure about them and he did not push me into making a rushed decision. He was great at staying in touch, flexible on meeting times and was focused on my needs. Ultimately he wanted to make sure I was happy before committing to something. It put my stressed out mind at ease. Even after signing my lease and paying the fees he has followed up to check all is ok and even stepped in to assist with some issues I had with the management company over maintenance to my new apartment. This is a review for Justyna Czekaj. My girlfriend and I were looking to move in together and we found Justyna, who couldn't have made our search easier. We let her know what type of requirements we were looking for (1BR, doorman, stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, elevator bldg, etc.) and she was able to provide a variety of available apartments in the UES. She was very helpful in our search process, and seemed to have a great grasp of the NYC real estate market. This process can usually be daunting and arduous, and agents often don't seem to want to develop personal connections to their clients. Justyna couldn't have been nicer, friendlier, and wanting to make sure that my girlfriend and I were happy in our first apartment together. She never rushed us to make our decision and was even willing to view some units more then once (or twice) as we attempted to make our final decision and put in an application for an apartment. Through the entire application process and even after we got the apartment she was in constant communication, recommended some moving companies, and even stopped by after we moved in to give us a housewarming gift. I would definitely recommend her to those looking for apartments around the city and I even did to a friend of mine, with whom Justyna helped get an apartment of their own in the UWS. I'm sitting among the boxes getting ready for my big move this weekend, thanks to Kelly Neptune. She is an absolute gem and I'm so excited with my new apartment. Kelly was quick to respond to my first outreach with both a personal touch and genuine concern to fully understand my priorities in what I was looking for. It is a daunting process to find an apartment on the Upper West Side and my wish list was long and included finding an apartment that would be happy with my big black lab as well. Kelly took the time to schedule a call with me to talk through my search and presented me with a fantastic list of apartments that fit my criteria spot on. She also provided me with suggestions that were a bit outside my initial criteria, but given her vast knowledge of the area, she knew would be ideal for me. She was right! Kelly has a natural ability to listen to what her clients want and she delivers. I had several brokers reaching out to me and not one of them matched the personal dedication or service that Kelly provided. She felt more like a friend helping me on my apartment hunt, someone who knew me and would know exactly where I would fit. It was also refreshing to be greeted so warmly by the management companies. Kelly is well known and the leasing agents truly enjoy working with her which made the formal process go very smooth. I'm so happy to have an apartment that I love and can call my new home. This is my first review as I only signed up for Yelp to write a review for our agent. Despite the comments of the reviewer below, only having one review for a particular business on Yelp doesn't indicate that you're a shill... it may just mean posting reviews on a website is not your #1 priority in life. Anyways, I can't speak to the quality of Anchor Associates as a whole, but our agent, Dimitar Peev, was great. My roommate and I were looking to upgrade in size for our next apartment, but other than that we were pretty flexible. Because of this, we worked with a few agents all over Manhattan. Dimitar was the last one we ended up working with, and he put in a lot of effort to make sure that we found somewhere suitable and within our budget. He was straightforward, easy to talk to, and the best part was that he wasn't constantly pressuring us into jumping into a deal as soon as possible like most other agents do. Dimitar spent over 3 hours with us after work one evening showing us place after place. We ultimately ended up settling on an apartment that was very slightly above our initial price target, but pretty much ideal in terms of the space we were looking for, and a very big jump in location in terms of convenience. He was also reasonable when it came to negotations which was a big plus. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend working with him, and am sure he will put a lot of effort into helping someone else out. read more
