The pictures and description of the apartment were spot on (something which is not always the case) and the entire process was clearly explained. I've switched apartments five times while living in New York and working with Scott was my best broker experience, he truly listens to your needs and finds the perfect place that checks all boxes. My appreciation for Scott grew even more when I was approved for the apartment and learned that Scott would be the apartment manager. Anytime I had a question about the apartment (even trivial things like holiday gift expectations from the building doorman and staff), Scott was there to provide support and guidance. Ian - aside from years of experience - is an agent that truly works for his clients/customers in their quest for better living conditions. He is very knowledgable about most areas in Manhattan and has a firm grasp about the "appetites" of many high-end management companies (what they are looking for so the applicants will promptly qualify for approval be it in rental or purchase.) As observed, on numerous occasions, he has an excellent long-standing professional relationships with a number of realty firms and several co-brokers; that is to say he is respected by his peers and my a number of his clients, like myself. Jhonatan Ocampo is an amazing broker. I had trouble getting my first apartment and had to find something within 2 days. He automatically responded to my email which was after office hours and even offered to chat on the phone. I met with him the first thing in the morning and saw the unit. He helped me apply for the unit and even helped me navigate my way through New York using the subway and helping me find my way around as I am new to the city (from Los Angeles). He has an amazing personality that is very easy going. He is very on top of all his clients needs and knows what is needed in order for you to get approved with your application. He follows up with you without you having to follow up with him and makes you feel at ease. If you are new to NY and want to work with an easy going broker, I would definitely recommend Jhonatan. NY brokers are known to be aggressive sharks but Jhonatan is very hospitable, patient and listens to his clients. Although, I am still in the processing of getting an apartment with Jhonatan I will only book through him when I can move around December of this year. He definitely cares about all his clients and follows up even if you use other brokers or decide to look for something else. He cares for all his clients. I would trust this broker and I highly recommend him. You would be wasting your time with other brokers who just want your money or for you to apply to almost everything and anything. The people at Anchor Associates treat their clients with proper due care. And by that I don't just mean these agents know the lay of the land in this brutal yet rewarding city. I don't just mean they treat you with respect and hear you out for YOUR needs. On top of their fantastic focus on service this company from the upper management to the receptionists are warm and welcoming and a whole lot of fun. That's what you want in a broker. People who are serious about this business, but also treat you like a respected guest in their house too. Now let me focus on my guy Paul Figueroa. This man is Mr. New York hands down. A friend back in LA referred me to Paul (I pretty much had no connections to this city with the exception of Paul at this point), and given my experience working with him I am certain very few people know as much about NYC as he does. For some reason Anchor had Yelp remove my previous review based on content guidelines because I posted it for all three locations. Originally, I was unclear which branch Nick works for. Note- I am re-posting it here because prior to removal Val S replied to my review on this page about Nick. Also checked and Nickolas Gofarth works in Chelsea/Flatiron. I assume this fits the rule that I review the location I had an experience with? Commence my original review- which was written the day of- when Nick quit on me after telling me to go to a cafe as he researches for apartments that may fit my criteria. Thankfully, Yelp gives you a copy of the reviews they take down. :) "My situation: I am writing this review in a cafe...because my broker quit on me. I chose Anchor due to Yelp reviews. I cancelled an appt with another broker while in NYC to work with Anchor Associates alone due to those reviews. I chose Anchor because of the reviews of Gilad. He was great very communicative but he transferred me to Nick (Nicholas) Gofarth because I had contacted three months in advance. Communication- Good in the beginning. I initially contacted with my needs, wants, etc. Then with a week until our confirmed meeting less communication. I confirmed the week before about the date but was told time and place will be decided later. 15 hrs before our appt day I emailed again because I got worried when I received no details for our confirmed appointment. The apartment showing- Nick arrived 15 minutes late. First apartment Nick showed was above my maximum budget and did not follow my needed characteristics. While i said Im willing to go above budget, that would only be if we can find an apartment I liked. Other issues- Not very lit- one small window less than one foot wide...(lit was one of my needs) Ongoing construction- I pointed it out and Nick rolled his eyes and said it should be a consideration. No details when it would end. I told him it was a bit loud and not exactly what I was looking for. Instead of asking me to clarify, he had this look on his face and said incredulously, "You know you are moving into NYC, right? All the apartments will be like this." I was shocked. Yes, I am moving to NYC...I lived here last summer and I asked my friends who lived here about their apartments and their rent before meeting with him....No sir, the apartment you showed is not exemplar of all NYC apartments. Also, are you representing the landlord or me? He was nearly rolling his eyes with a smirk on his face so I asked if this would be a problem. He said no but he didn't know these were main concerns...even though I had put it in the Needs category rather than Wants for both quiet and light... He then suggested another neighborhood and told me he would go back to the office and look up apartments NOW that he knew what I wanted...What the ten emails I sent you since March were not clear enough? He told me to go eat lunch or hang out in a cafe for two hours...I figure oh well everyone makes mistakes. Maybe he'll find apartment that satisfies my wanted characteristics in the two hours. An hour later, I'm in the cafe and he emails me to say he can't work with me. I can't comment on any other associate here but I found Nick Gofarth unreliable, not listening to my values, and a bit pushy as an apt broker. Well now that I am here in NYC, I guess I will have to find another broker and agency. If you are coming in from out of town, don't rely on this company or you'll be like me...in a cafe looking at all the broker referrals your friends and family sent ....last minute .... Good luck to others looking!" Edit - I ended up being saved by a broker at another agency. I add this so prospective renters can have an informational context before making their decisions. I had my doubts, but at least they got me an apartment. Unfortunately, that's the best thing I have to say about my Anchor experience. I was moving from Chicago and hired Anchor based on Yelp reviews to find a furnished short term rental in NYC. I must have gotten a dud or these reviews are too dated. This was one of the most stressful experiences I've ever had trying to rent. Possibly the worst communication of any commissioned person I've ever met (possibly, I mean definitely). I found myself leaving message after message just to check in on the status of an apartment. The broker sent me text messages at 11:00 at night to show up to an apartment first thing the next morning. i got another call with no notice that i had to drop what i was doing and come look at an apartment right then and there or "it would be gone." I get that good apartments don't last, but I felt like I would get a guilt trip if I didn't like something even after it was clearly not what I was looking for up front. After forking over $20k for an apartment, I didn't even get a lease until two days before move in. The broker knew this was a temporary place so I could find another apartment. Talk about low hanging fruit for a follow up commission. I didn't even get so much as a thank you for your business or a follow up call to ask if everything was good. Never again read more

I worked with Mark Nishikiori and I will explain why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. Don't get me wrong, I have been MORE THAN HAPPY to work with Mark but here is the situation. The studio was advertised on Craigslist as a "No-Fee Apartment", which immediately caught my attention. I then sent an email and Mark came back to me very promptly. He said we should meet ASAP so we don't lose the unit. However, when we met, he found out the building was not paying the brokers anymore, which meant I, the customer, had to pay for a broker's fee. I agreed to pay for the fee because at that point, I had no time left to look for other places and I would have been willing to pay for it anyway if I knew about it beforehand but in my mind, when sending that email, I was really glad I did not have to worry about it. Mark claimed he did not know he would not get paid by the building either but I felt it was his responsibility to make sure it was a "no-fee apartment" before advertising it in such category. And so, whenever I was trying to "negotiate", he basically stated that it was now or never, because he could find other clients immediately who would be willing to pay for the broker's fees. With that said, I want to highlight the GOOD points because yes, there is more than one. Despite this incident, Mark has been a truly amazing real estate agent AND friend. He understood my situation and I felt like he dealt with it as if it was his own problem. He is specialized in helping international people find an apartment in New York so I thought he knew his job very well! In addition, he managed to negotiate the monthly rent and the security deposit because he knew I could not afford to pay a huge amount of money upfront. He also told me about the surroundings (where to shop, where to do grocery shopping, etc.). He sometimes visits the building to show other available units to his clients and it's nice to see him and say hi. I'm very grateful I got to work with Mark because 3 years later, I'm actually still living in that same unit :) read more

Was in the market to find an apartment in Astoria and was having trouble finding one that would meet our requirements (3 good sized-equal bedrooms for 3 working professionals), until I found Marija and her fantastic posting. Her listing was very professional, detailed and straight forward. The pictures on the listing gave me a great idea of what the apartment looked like. After seeing the place, she was very knowledgeable about the unit as well as the area. During the lease signing process she was very accessible. I mainly used Craig's List to search for apartments, and do not understand why most agents are so vague and ignorant about their listings. Rest assured, this is not the case with Marija though! Absolutely loved my experience working with Audrey Blair. She was so sweet throughout the entire process; called me to deep-dive into my apartment preferences, ideal neighborhoods, and what I would give/take on. I was very early to the search (looking 8-10 weeks out from my move-in date) and she helped guide me through the market. Audrey set up a full day around various neighborhoods so I could see different places that met my needs, as well as how far my dollar would stretch, in each place. I ended up falling in love with the first apartment I saw, but continued the tour to be sure. Under no pressure to commit at all, given that I had about 10 weeks to move, Audrey went above and beyond to secure the apartment I liked, and finalize terms that allowed me to move in later than the landlord asked. She also helped negotiate rent down significantly, and worked with the management company (Aimco) to adjust payment terms, move-in/move-out dates, and clarify terms in the lease around damages, improvements, and more. As someone who negotiates for a living, I drilled into every detail of the contract, and bless her soul, Audrey was there fighting every battle with me until the lease was perfect. He was recommended to me by a friend who had bumped into him a year after she worked with him to find an apt (she ended up going with a no-fee apt instead) but he remembered her and although she didn't use him, he was very cordial and encouraged her to stay where she was because she had a good deal. When we worked with Andrei, he was very attentive, did his homework, gave us plenty of useful tips and paid attention to our checklist of requirements. This review is for Rose Teves. I just signed a lease to rent an apartment, and Rose was my broker. The Negatives: She would get 5 stars but the floor plan she used from Lalezarian Properties, LLC was the wrong one. This is either her fault or Lalezarian's fault, it's not for me to decide, but it led to me signing a lease and expecting things like a door to be attached to the private office when there really is not one there. To be fair, Rose did send me her communications to the leasing office, but it was already too late. Just make sure she has an actual floor plan and don't sign anything if only verbal promises are made. The positives: Rose was quick and exceptional during the entire process. I was searching online and saw one of her listings. I emailed her and she called me back within the hour. I was not able to take her call as I was at work, so she emailed me instead. That worked better for me and I was happy she was so adaptable. The next morning she had three apartments lined up for me to view. After she showed me two of them she better understood my needs and started to line up some other places as well. The good thing about Rose is that she listens and does not pressure you into anything at all. I was not sure if I was going to move and told her that. Rose actually told me it's ok If I decide not to move, or use another Broker too. When I decided I really was going to move, on short notice she arranged for a showing of the place I was considering. Then went I went to sign the lease and she helped guide that process. The nice thing about Rose is that she takes the job very seriously and is not distracted while she spends time with you. I have had brokers before that are inexperienced and can't manage several clients at once, Rose however is fully engaged in the process with you, and she seems to really enjoy what she does. read more

Michael was a true pleasure to work with. He was extremely responsive (not sure he sleeps ever) and was very diligent in ensuring the apartments matched our requirements/criteria. Michael made the search process easier by providing listings that we may not have seen on the public online portals and I actually felt like I didn't need to scour rental websites every day because I was confident Michael would proactively notify us about relevant properties. Michael's demeanor was very pleasant, and he was understanding of our requirements and not pushy. Even after the lease was signed, Michael checked back in just to see how things were going. That's uncharacteristic of other broker's I've worked with, who disappear once they have their deal done. This is a signal of a trustworthy, responsible person who actually cares about finding a place you will be happy in, not just grabbing a dollar.
