Koffee's been being groomed at the Paw Spa with Tee Jewell for the past several months and Tee always does an amazing job with my sweet senior girl. She's almost 14 now and requires a little extra TLC the Paw Spa team seems to give to all their fur babies, with Tee even referring to her clients' pets as her fur besties which I find to be a nice touch and makes me feel at ease leaving my sweet girl with her for her spa dates. Tee takes great care to have Koffee's grooms look exactly as we ask for them to and best of all, my little love always seems to be in pleasant spirits when we drop her off and pick her up which also helps me to feel at ease with leaving her in Tee's care for the appointments. She has arthritis and a back issue that the Paw Spa team seems to also be attentive to, handling Koffee with gentleness and patience. It's been an easy booking process each time we needed to schedule groomings and Koffee is always ready for pick up in the promised time Tee says she'll be, during which I receive text messages to let me know when the appointment is almost wrapped up. While we rarely cage or crate Koffee, I appreciate that the Paw Spa is being precautious about the respiratory virus going around with dogs now and keeping our pets safe by having them be separated and sometimes in crates during appointments to prevent potential spread of germs and the virus. This was so sad to find out that this business that I wanted to support in the community was poor in their service, both to my dog and me directly. My dog went to this location on Dec 21 for a full bath and cut. She is a poodle. I went to this establishment because I was told they were capable of grooming poodles. I noticed after this grooming appointment that she still had a lot of ear hair and wax. I reported this in my next appointment request and scheduled her for an appointment with the manager. She stated she will make sure her ears were done. On Jan 20, the manager stated yes there may be an issue with one ear. I know groomers do not handle ear issues, however, the manager did not say that she thought the ears were so bad that they could not perform the service, that she knew there was an infection, or that a vet should be contacted. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was not even told about the groomers thoughts on her hears until after the appointment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She waited until after the supposed grooming appointment was over and still had me pay. I noticed that her ears were still not plucked or cleaned. I just had to take my dog to the vet today who stated that clinically my dog should not have this much wax and hair build up if she got properly groomed not even a month ago. My dog had an ear infection, bleeding, and soreness due to this location's poor service and negligence. Paw Spa lost another client. I will be transparent and fair because I have been waiting for the right time to create an updated review. On August 19, I dropped my dog there with my mother. When we gave Lucas to the groomers at that time, they were pulling off the leash from his neck to get him inside, and it was painful to see that, but I decided again to trust them. When we picked him up after 4 hours, he was normal. We tend to pick him up as quickly as possible because he is our baby, and 4 hours is a lot for him and us. However, the next day he was coughing a lot, and I asked politely and respectfully what had happened to him through text messages, and things did not end well. They told me they would check the cameras, but we have yet not receive an answer from the video. In the text messages, the owner, Gabriella, becomes defensive, and as a manager, she should receive constructive opinions that could help her small business improve. But this was not the case. Instead, she mentioned something that offended me and, for weeks, made me ask myself if I was doing things right. My dog is fearful, but whenever I bring them to Paw Spa, I ask how his behavior is, and she is always like he is vocal, but he was a good boy. However, now that her attitude has changed, she began to say that he nips a lot and things I have never heard. The worst part was when she referred to schnauzers as ''that breed.'' And in this place, they do have a problem with schnauzers. Anyways, I have brought my Lucas to two different places after that with fear of what could happen to him. Let me tell you; these two places treat him SO WELL. It started when we dropped him off. They could handle the situation well in less than a minute with CARE, and it did not take 4 or 5 hours, less than 2 hours, without bruises on his skin (I can post pictures, with time and the date). This proves that the problem is not my little boy, and they let us watch him throughout the grooming. Oh, and they did the schnauzer style, unlike Paw Spa, which trimmed all of my Lucas beards and left his tail with uneven hair. The groomer, instead, cut our dog unevenly on many locations on her body.  There appears to be a nick, or small cut, on the left side of her tail.  She's been licking her front paws all evening.  This doesn't usually happen when she returns from the groomers. I really wanted to like this place. I really did! So much so that I decided to schedule my Shih Tzu's grooming here instead of his normal groomers to give them a try. I wholeheartedly regret my decision and will never bring my baby back here nor recommend to dog friends. My first impression was good. The groomer seemed friendly and notified me of the time which was spot on. However, the groom itself is horrific and I can only imagine the traumatizing experience my dog had. First, upon inspection my dog has a 2 inch gash on his tail. His fur is white so you can clearly see he had been bleeding. What's worse is the groomer made no mention of this. I understand things happen but come on. I should have been notified of something like this. Especially since he did not walk into the salon with that gash. Second, the cut is atrocious and it looks like it was rushed. The cut is choppy and he looked half blow dried - half wavy fur (which happens when he air dries) and half blow dried. First, I want to give the owner credit for not charging me for the services. But as I chose this groomer based on the positive reviews, I decided I had to post for others. I asked for very light trimming around my two Shelties' ears that blended into the face. I picked them up to find a complete uneven hatchet job - especially the ruff of my younger dog. The groomer cut 3 or 4 inches off an area you would never trim on a sheltie. The soft sheltie fur feels sharp to the touch and is uneven. The owner saw how bad it was and did attempt to even out what looked like steps cut into the fur - looked like when a small child that has attempted to cut their own hair with scissors. What prompted this review however is that at home I noticed my dogs' nails were not trimmed - which I explicitly asked for - two out of eight paws had been touched. Lastly, the loud music blasting - so loudly the wall shook - concerned me. Dogs have sensitive ears and the grooming environment is loud enough without more noise for them. I'm devastated for my younger pup. I talked to my breeder/veterinarian. She said it will take 4 months to a year for the hair to grow back and it may never look the same. I think this groomer is probably great for doodles, poodles, or other dogs that do not have a breed standard cut. Perhaps the owner is well trained but not staff. I try to give business the benefit of the doubt and being kind (thanking her for not charging me and trying to fix things). But I regret going here so much. Don't make my mistake. Given the owner seems to respond defensively to all negative reviews, I expect the same here. Edit: per response below. I love loud music. That is my taste. After reading really good reviews I thought we'd give Paw Spa a shot for my 17lb cavachon pup. We came for a bath and had an ok experience. We prob won't be back just due to the prices. There's a reason they don't put their prices anywhere on their website or in the store... this place is HELLA expensive. Most baths for small dogs cost $30-$50 but it's $70 here plus a tip. Woof. That's how much I normally pay for a full groom. For a place this expensive I'm surprised they aren't friendlier and the spa cleaner. There's hair everywhere on the floor when you walk in. And the receptionist wasn't very nice at all. However, our groomer seemed to be very nice and I liked him. He did a good job - my dog is super clean and fresh and he followed my instructions. Depending on the day... the front desk staff is not always the most pleasant but the groomers are very friendly and always do an excellent job on my JRT. My dog sheds a lot so I do the TheraCare with fresh breath. Services usually takes 2 1/2 hours which I appreciate because he is getting pampered. My dog is always excited to come here. I brought my Norwich terrier here for his first ever official groom after being rescued. His coat is wiry with quirky tufts, and I requested to maintain his tail and neck as much as possible. I spoke to a lovely woman who walked me through their offerings and pricing, and set the appointment for me. Dropping him off, the staff was just as warm and chatted with me again to reiterate what I wanted for him. The end result was exactly what I'd hoped for - a cut accentuating his quirks, while being clean and crisp. His nails were nicely trimmed (something he will not let me do) and they'd even put a petite men's tie around his neck so he looked like a proper gent. Found out about this place on Instagram. Wanted to give them a try because the owners previously worked at the groomers we went to before. I absolutely love the waiting area. As soon as I arrived, I could see my dog from the window. She was running around happily. When I got in, I saw that they have placed a water bowl in the area and also gave my dog treats! I've never seen that before at any grooming places. I also love the fact that the groomer was very attentive and was able to groom Kai to what I like. I found this groomers online and was initially pleased to learn that is was a minority and female business. I've waited a few months to write this review because I was so disappointed and angry. Initially I was very happy with the work done on my doggies. Overtime that changed. The front desk staff is a revolving door. You never know who you're going to get. So are the groomers. The work became slap hazard with me pointing out areas which needed cleaning up. I would arrive and be told that they were behind and would wait sometimes more than four hours for my puppy. I didn't complain but tried to use the free time constructively. Then the day came when I was late. It was a horrible day for DC traffic and it took 1.5 hours to get there from Georgetown. I arrived 20 minutes late and they give a 15 minute grace period. Instead of calling me and saying oh sorry you're late we can't take you. They texted. I don't text and drive. In fact if I receive a text while driving the phone automatically sends a message saying that I'm driving. Anyway, I arrive flustered and apologetic, especially after driving around the block looking for a legal parking space. Nevertheless, "so sorry" I'm told. You're too late. Then In the same breath they say they are backed up. Wait, if you're backed up then even if I was on time you still would be backed up. All the times I arrived on time, waited until 9 or 10 for my pooch didn't matter. Needless to say I was pissed and told them so. That would have been that until I took my puppy to another groomer the next week. At that groomer she showed me all the places where my dogs silky fur was matted underneath. Steam came out of my ears. I had been taking my dog to the Paw Spa since he was 12 weeks old. It is enraging that they couldn't do a decent job. They did me a favor by not taking my pooch. Now I'm with a better groomer much closer to home. Just be diligent and beware when going here. Oh and I only have three stars because of the first groomer I had. She was great but no longer there. RESPONSE: I find it amusing that the owner takes umbrage at the review. Yet she fails to acknowledge that matting doesn't just occur in ONE FLIPPING WEEK! As was shared by the new groomer, the matting occurs over a period of time. I took my puppy faithfully for grooming so one week won't make a darn bit of difference. Excuses are useless, and fail to rectify anything. I can respect business owners who take responsibility for what they do. Also even when I was no longer happy with the service, it was my mistake to continue to give grace and mercy to this business. I did it BECAUSE it was minority owned and female owned. When I was happy with the work I promoted where it mattered, on groups of pet owners. Word of mouth is what runs things. Anyone who has studied marketing for two seconds knows that a happy customer tells one or two, an unhappy one tells everyone. I'm giving two stars because the girl working the front was so nice. As for the grooming, our experience was terrible. We paid for a full service and the only thing done was a bath and paw pad trim. He smelled clean and looked clean when I picked him up. When we got home I realize that he wasn't trimmed. His privates were still covered in hair, his paw pads we trimmed unevenly, ears untouched, nails weren't touched, slightly damp, and not brushed what so ever. Did phenomenal work on a puppy that my sister and I found roaming the streets. The drop off/check-in in process was simple. I was told the the service would take about three hours and I was notified when the grooming was finished via text. Everyone who was in the apartment complex the day we found Beans always asks who we went to to get him groomed and we always tell them Paw Spa. Now that I think about it the only thing that I am really upset about is the fact that I didn't take more pictures after the grooming service to show off how great of a job they did. read more

I dropped my dog off for grooming and was called about an hour later. They had shaved 1/2 of my dog's coat and told me she had 'an infestation of fleas' and that I had to come pick her up. My dog takes medication for fleas. The picture they showed me had 3 black dots on the top of her coat - not near her skin. I brought her home and went through her coat and saw not one single flea. I am livid. If there was a flea on her, it came from there. We will NEVER use this place again. Responding to their reply: My dog did not and does NOT have fleas and I never raised my voice so they are liars on top of being a flea infested establishment. Be warned. The picture they sent showed fleas on top of my dogs coat. Fleas live next to the skin. The fleas came onto my dog from their establishment. That's why they were on top of her coat. They texted me numerous times and even called me names - so don't be fooled. Rude and unprofessional. I would never trust my girl with them again. read more
