We were so in love with her. I'm home and heartbroken.

Left with a completely broken heart and no kitten. We arrived and after sometime were shown a couple of kittens. We fell in love with one and were ready to adopt. Her name was Madeleine and she was 2 months and 19 days old. Once we made our decision, we told the staff... we were then told that because she isn't 3 months old (11 days shy) that we would have to take two. We have a cat at home that we rescued 2 years ago as an abandoned infant, and ate not ready for three cats. We asked the staff to double check and were quickly told no again. So we left. They lost an adoption and any future referrals from us and they left me with a hole in my heart. ‍

It's been over 5 years since I've adopted Bear (initially named Alex, but Bear felt right for him), and I can honestly say, he's changed my life for the better. Yes, he pushes my water over in the middle of the night, scratches the rug, and occasionally meows at 5AM (thank god I'm a morning person). But I'd have it no other way. He's been with me through a bad break up, and several moves, and still has the biggest personality I've ever seen in an animal. There are moments when I seriously cannot understand how anyone could have given him up in the first place. Then I realize that the universe knew I needed him, and he was always meant to be in my life. If you're considering adopting, DO IT! I'm telling you it'll be the best gift to not only the animals life, but your own. Once again, I'm more than grateful to have gone through Anderson!

4 years ago I made a spontaneous visit to the shelter with really no intention to adopting a dog but to boost my mood. I really loved all of the energetic doggies and how you could tell they were treated with love and care. I also really loved that all of the poor shy, nervous, and timid little dogs felt safe too. When I adopted my dog (he was a dog they rescued from a kill shelter) I could tell he was very comfortable despite being skittish due to his past situation. Now he's been in our loving home for 4 years and makes my day everyday no matter what.

We fostered Cricket(Polly) and adopted when all her medical concerns were over. Anderson was wonderful.

Anderson is a superior shelter. I have adopted from them over and over. All my dogs and cats have been great companions. My only complaint is their lives are to short.

I've volunteered and they definitely take the health of the animals very seriously. I highly recommend this shelter!

Does Anderson house smaller dogs for adoption? And if yes, is there a particular location? I've gone on the site several times and see larger dogs and puppies, but none in the <25lb range.

I am not sure if one of my staff has responded, but we have the size range you inquired abput at all three adoption locations. Let me know how I can help you further.

He accepted us quickly and loves our 6 year old golden retriever. He has even softened our senior cat thru his love, pests and great personality. McCoy is a very loving and it is a joy to be a part of his world. The foster parents do a wonderful WONDERFUL job of helping kitties mature. McCoy loves his belly rubs; follows you around, and, absolutely loves to play fetch. He is better at fetch then the dog. He is a real talker so we are brushing up on our Catonian so we can converse. McCoy brings a smile to our faces multiple times a day. Thank you Sharon and HELP for our little gem. I hope that when you are considering a new fur baby addition, you adopt from HELP and also when possible, donate to the cause.

(Home for Endangered and Lost Pets). I filled out my application and submitted. I was immediately contacted by Erica via email and then again the next day by phone call. During this phone call Erica was quite frazzled, stressed, and stated she's "tired of people, she does this and has a family and job too". She seemed overwhelmed and not happy being a volunteer with so many animals. She proceeded to ask me questions that actually where already on my application, but I happily answered. She called my vet to verify the status of my current dog. There was a mix up in vaccination records, his vaccinations were done somewhere else, so the vet had no record. I was able to clear that up, or at least I was led to believe I cleared it up by Erica. However, while I was being honest, open, and doing what needed to be done to adopt, which entailed a quick vet visit, Erica was not so honest. She had accepted another application, at the same time she was working with me, still leading me to believe this pup would be mine. She didn't disclose this to me at anytime, even though we had numerous texts back and forth. My vet visit was scheduled for 1:00 pm. Erica was informed of this at 8:30 am, and responded with "keep me posted". An hour later I'm told there's another applicant and more texts back and forth. As I'm going to vet appointment, I received another text from Erica coldly stating "Sorry she's adopted you'll find another dog". So, in a matter of 3 hours, the pup I was supposed adopt was adopted by someone else!!?? I will find another dog, but not with this place. Erica has definitely given adopting a rescue a bad reputation.

We called them and they advised to try a syringe with baby food we did that and still not helping. That night he through up worms so we brought him in and they gave him more poison without nourishing him. His poor body could not handle it and he died on my husbands lap after taking his last breath. I will never forgive myself For the poor choices I made and I will never bring a pet here again. Echoing the other review...I made some quick calls to various sanctuaries and found only one that was available, friendly and helpful. As an aside...why is it so often that people who SO love animals are so prickly with actual human beings?? Unlike other sanctuaries, FVWC didn't "maybe we'll take it" me or scold me for caring for a bird. It was a bit of a trek for me to get there but I felt confident in going that what had been a huge investment of time for me to bring the bird this far, would be well continued by the staff here. They told me that after a brief period of observation, they'd house him in an outside cage with other birds to acclimate to the outdoors and learn from other birds. Then he'd be released into beautiful rural Elburn. Yea! I was happy that they took so such detailed notes of his journey thus far. While there I also was able to observe their staff and a few of the beasties in their care... A fawn having its healing leg rebandaged for the day and a turkey wandering around the house. lol Lotsa love for the animals there and bonus...humane treatment of the humans! :-D
