Organization that's non profit to shelter animals is a hypocrite and unprofessional organization. I came to adopt a puppy from them and have an existing dog at home.after a round of phone interviews, 3 days past and I received a call from the owner, Missy who was fostering the puppy. She answered my questions and when I asked for a puppy date so the two dogs meet, she said ok and Ill bring her stuff and she can stay. I was shocked they so quickly put two dogs together Not knowing if they will get a long. Missy was nice, she had a LOT going on in her personal life from what she told me and was hasty to get this dog adopted. So with feeling the pressure as she said she did not have time to come back for the dogs to meet after the initial drop off, I agreed to a meeting. She had another issue and ended up sending her husband to drop off the dog. My existing dog is a rescue and has special needs and she started to shake and was scared. 24 hours later, I texted Missy letting her know the dogs do not get along and I can't put them in a room together. She had her copartner Nicollete speed to my house and pick up the puppy. After talking to other shelters, I was told that it is never ok to place a dog in a home with another dog without at least two meetings. And thats that reason there is a grace period on your money. Nicollete is very rude and abrupt and agressive. She knocked and literally took the puppy out of my hands with no decency to ask what happened or how the dogs are and sped off. I texted Missy and asked if, due to the hastiness of dropping of a puppy without seeing them play, and having the dog for 24 hours, if she could refund me all or a portion of my funds and asked to let me know either way. My messages, Ironically, did not go through. I was Blocked! If she responded as a professional and no matter the answer, I would have been fine, however she blocked me and thats after 1 text asking for them to work with me. I paid $500 for the dog! So, I disputed it with my cc and immediately get a text from Nicollina stating that their lawyer will handle this because I signed a contract and that I could not care for the dog for it's life. It wasn't a matter of not being able to commit to the dog for the rest of its life. But rather the puppy stressed my current dog out to the point of constant shaking other than when the puppy was sleeping. So my first commitment and priority was The dog I have!! So indeed they are the hypocrites!!! This organization is complete rubbish. They do not make sure that when they are placing a dog in a home that they meet. How can you say you are a shelter "better than the others" and not care about the other animals impacted. They just care about money and are unprofessional. I am more worried at how this organization is run and the harm it brings to the animals because they obviously care about their pockets more.

Completely unprovoked, our resident dog was attacked and bitten in two places.

I really hope the people who run Anderson Humane read this review because I want to plead with them…read moreto give up this insane philosophy of keeping every animal alive no matter what. We adopted our cat 11 years ago from Andersons. She had been born in the shelter and was never adopted (until we took her home). She has extreme anxiety and never socialized in all those 4 years with other cats, nor do I believe humans very much. When we saw here there, sleeping with her chin on her LITTER BOX (which of course cats do not like, to sleep next to their own waste), acting very afraid and skittish. My husband went to pick her up to put her in the carrier and they quickly hustled her away from him, I'm sure because they didn't want us to see her feral behavior. I know you think you're doing a good thing not euthanizing any animals, but let me tell you from what I've observed: there are many things in life worse than death, and living in torment for 4 years is one of them. In addition to this woefully inadequate first 4 years, our cat has developed lifelong Chronic Rhinitis from a virus she picked up in her institutional life. She is 15 now and for about 3 or 4 years she has not played at all from fatigue--I've had older cats that play until they're way older than that, so its not just age. Because of her early institutional life, she is semi-feral--she has NEVER sat on our laps, she is impossible to give medication to, she struggles so severely if she is held, I'm afraid she'll dislocate something. Because of this, the only treatment she can get for her Chronic Rhinitis is antibiotic shots, and they have stopped working. I wish you could hear her struggle to breathe every night through her stuffed up airways. I fear she is in a constant state of agitation and anxiety caused by her breathing difficulty. At the very least she is definitely not living her best life: she should be playing, sitting outside under her favorite bush to watch the birds, and visiting us while we watch a movie at night- none of which she does anymore. This all comes down to your decision that keeping all animals alive at all costs is the best decision. A painless and humane euthanasia is a millions times less cruel and barbaric than insisting that your religious and/or philosophical ideology trumps all other considerations. This cat has suffered a lot because of *you*. If you work at this place, please reconsider your outlook and ideology. Making an animal without a voice suffer for years is sadistic and weird, especially when euthanasia causes no pain or distress. Are you really doing this because its what's best for the animal?

Greater Chicago Cavalier Rescue - Ryno, the wonder Cavalier!

WOW! I finally hit 500!…read more I wanted to make this review special--something that's close to my heart (just like my other 100 markers!). For those of you who know me, know that I love my pooch Ryno. He's a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and yes, is treated like royalty. I have yet to meet a Cavalier that hasn't been sweet, awesome, and overall just a great catch! I have not adopted from this rescue, but know people who have, I've also met a few people affiliated with the rescue at various meet ups and dog shows throughout IL and even WI. :-) You couldn't ask for a bunch of better people! Here's a little about their mission (taken from their website): GCCR's mission is to help ensure the health and security of abused, abandoned, and otherwise endangered Cavalier King Charles Spaniels by rehabilitating and placing Cavaliers from shelters and similar situations, by assisting breeders and owners in finding new homes for their Cavaliers, and by providing to the public educational materials and consultation regarding Cavalier health and care. The growing popularity of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels has prompted increased breeding by unscrupulous breeders and puppy mills. This development suggests that owners' concerns about health as well as the number of Cavaliers in need will only grow. Placement of Cavaliers in new homes without appropriate, knowledgeable veterinary testing may result in unforeseen, serious heartaches for new owners. The GCCR as well as other dedicated Cavalier rescuers and owners are here to help.

It seems like the two other reviews say it all!! I volunteer with the GCCR and can't believe how…read moresupportive, nurturing, and selfless this group of people truly are. He accepted us quickly and loves our 6 year old golden retriever. He has even softened our senior cat thru his love, pests and great personality. McCoy is a very loving and it is a joy to be a part of his world. The foster parents do a wonderful WONDERFUL job of helping kitties mature. McCoy loves his belly rubs; follows you around, and, absolutely loves to play fetch. He is better at fetch then the dog. He is a real talker so we are brushing up on our Catonian so we can converse. McCoy brings a smile to our faces multiple times a day. Thank you Sharon and HELP for our little gem. I hope that when you are considering a new fur baby addition, you adopt from HELP and also when possible, donate to the cause.

(Home for Endangered and Lost Pets). I filled out my application and submitted. I was immediately contacted by Erica via email and then again the next day by phone call. During this phone call Erica was quite frazzled, stressed, and stated she's "tired of people, she does this and has a family and job too". She seemed overwhelmed and not happy being a volunteer with so many animals. She proceeded to ask me questions that actually where already on my application, but I happily answered. She called my vet to verify the status of my current dog. There was a mix up in vaccination records, his vaccinations were done somewhere else, so the vet had no record. I was able to clear that up, or at least I was led to believe I cleared it up by Erica. However, while I was being honest, open, and doing what needed to be done to adopt, which entailed a quick vet visit, Erica was not so honest. She had accepted another application, at the same time she was working with me, still leading me to believe this pup would be mine. She didn't disclose this to me at anytime, even though we had numerous texts back and forth. My vet visit was scheduled for 1:00 pm. Erica was informed of this at 8:30 am, and responded with "keep me posted". An hour later I'm told there's another applicant and more texts back and forth. As I'm going to vet appointment, I received another text from Erica coldly stating "Sorry she's adopted you'll find another dog". So, in a matter of 3 hours, the pup I was supposed adopt was adopted by someone else!!?? I will find another dog, but not with this place. Erica has definitely given adopting a rescue a bad reputation.

A couple of us met her once at a public event - I nor the other person ever saw her a 2nd time after that. She is never around - enjoys barking orders via electronic means at the volunteers. You have to cancel 24 hrs before coming in, and if you have a last-minute family emergency, there is no guarantee that the people you notify will relay the message. There is a clique-ish environment developing there, too. They gossip and talk about people behind their backs. Please adopt from a private shelter that actually values their volunteers and wants to you to get a cat or dog that matches your life situation. I adore the dogs there, just not the humans who are running the show.

Sent this email to Michelle**** I called her the day we had…read moreto put our newly adopted pet down and she said regarding not being given information our cat had FIV and told after we signed "Sorry, we were probably busy". ~~~~~~~~~~~~ I am emailing this to share my experience in adopting from the humane society. Seven weeks ago, my family came into the humane society looking for a pet . We had our eyes set on Blaze. Online it listed some information about him and I was immediately drawn to him. No health information was listed at all. He was with a volunteer and her child, who were looking to adopt but he was hiding from them. We walked in and he immediately ran to my children to play with them. They spent the next HOUR bonding with Blaze. The other party was interested in him- but I begged the volunteer to share with them why we really wanted Blaze. Last year we had three deaths, a murder , an eviction for my sister as well as three family members diagnosed with life threatening disease. This cat was going to heal our hearts and we were going to give him all the love we had left. Ultimately the volunteer chose to look at another cat. It was not busy that day. It was a Friday at noon. As we signed his papers the volunteer said "oh. Did I tell you? Blaze has FIV" She did not tell us. Nobody did. I realize that is not a death sentence but this should be shared online as well as BEFORE children especially are introduced to the pet. After bonding - what was I supposed to do??? Blaze was given every ounce of love we had for 7 weeks. Unfortunately, suddenly (as I have been told 1000 times with FIV cats), he started vomiting while I was at work and having massive diarrhea. Bouts of ten times in 20 mins. He had an underlying stomach infection that had been there for months according to my Vet...(a well known and respected vet in Naperville) I left work and rushed him to our vet . After several tests, She told me he was really sick and prognosis was not in his favor. Blaze was euthanized that day. He was only 2..... I can't believe it happened. I can't even begin to tell you the extreme amount of additional pain this caused my family. This has me thinking twice about ever adopting a pet for our family again. And I would never return HERE I am really upset by the heartache this caused our family and even moreso by the lack of communication of important details on behalf of the volunteer/ staff that day. I am thankful we had him- bc I question the fact that we weren't told for a reason and he would have died alone in a cage. Wish this story had a better ending- especially for Blaze...
