My husband and I stayed at this hotel for two nights in August this year. We drove down on bank…read moreholiday weekend to surprise our kids who were staying elsewhere with their grandparents, it's right across from the pier so location was perfect but obviously we should've known there was something wrong with it as it was the only hotel around with vacancies in a busy location. Ok so to start with, we went up to our room and we must've been above the kitchen because all we could smell was curry along our corridor. We went to our room and it was acceptable and clean. We went out for the evening and when we got back there was a horrible drunk fat bloke sat on the bench outside the front entrance leering at us, he promptly verbally attacked my husband and myself stating that my husband needed to give her a good sorting out and that he wanted to smash my back doors in. What a complete idiot! We decided to go to the bar which the drunk then followed, took his clothes off and started dancing about like a lunatic. I was about to complain to the staff when the manager ran out and started jumping on the drunks back! Nice! Bedtime. The next morning we went to breakfast, it's basic, no coffee though, just tea. Fake bacon too so we left it still hungry. We went back to our room and when we reached our floor we got the stench of old cooking oil and eggs which made me gag. I decided to have a shower but then discovered there wasn't one, just a bath. As I got out the bath the maid knocked and decided to walk straight in instead of waiting for a reply so she got an eyeful, I said we weren't ready so she went off again only to come back in what could only have been 2 minutes. That really annoyed me so I told her not to bother with the room this time. After another day out we were going to go to the bar but decided not to bother after looking through the window at the cackling drunks sprawled all over the floor. We both couldn't wait to check out in the morning and when I handed my key to the guy on reception he didn't speak a word to me! What an awful place! AVOID COMPLETELY!!! Unless you're an alcoholic chav that is!

Because of this we returned for a friends 40th Birthday party. Unfortunately, it must have been chefs night off. To start I had smoked salmon. The salmon was very tasteless and the dressing was extremely bitter - a cheek suckingly bad combination of cheap extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice from a bottle and bitter salad leaves. Unfortunately, the salad hadn't been washed properly and many people in the party were getting a mouthful of grit along with their salad. For main course I opted for the Rib Eye Steak. One of my favourite cuts of beef, I always ask for it medium rare. It came to me an the rarer side of rare and it looked like the grill chef had just shown it the pan! A shame because it as actually quite a good piece of meat. The steak came with the obligatory chips, which were hand cut and probably would have been extremely good if the oil had been changed in the frier sometime this year. There was nothing on the dessert menu that took my fancy so I played it safe and had the cheese board which was actually quite good. Most of the other people in the party had Profiteroles. I must admit they looked great when they came out, piled high with lots of cream and chocolate sauce so I tried a little of a friends. Unfortunately, the sauce was terrible. It had the texture of wet sand, the cocoa hadn't been dissolved in it properly and it was extremely bitter. It shouldn't have been served. Definitely chefs night off.
