Prices are steep (which is the only reason a star was knocked off); however, the repair is unmatched by any other shoemaker. Their restoration of a pair of women's shoes that can only be described as in shreds, with a missing heel, a hole instead of a sole, and stained and scratched suede was nothing short of miraculous. Yes, the shoes should have been thrown out (certainly not fit for donation!), but they were my daughter's favorite shoes. Turn-around is fast. I guess you get what you pay for, and Andrade is the best when you need a major repair and you need it soon. read more

I went in and asked for an estimate on getting the zippers replaced on a pair of riding boots. Last week he said "$28". I needed two zippers, about 6in each, and the heel glued down. "No problem"... I came back and dropped them off and the price was now $58... apparently he meant $25 per boot, plus $8 for the heel, and he was "giving me a deal" at $25. Fine. $58. So I paid the amount (deposit is required ahead of time) left them with him and came back to get them two days later. THEY ARE IN SHREDS. The leather is PEELING off in flakes. He insists they looked like this when i dropped them off. Funny how I didn't notice giant pieces of leather falling off my shoes... As you can see from the photo, they did NOT look like this at all before I dropped them off. Yes they have wear and tear, I'm not disputing that...but they are peeling and falling about in my hands and that is NOT how I left them. He refused to give me my money back and even after looking at the photo of the boots before I dropped them off, continued to insist that they were like this the whole time. Never again will I trust anything with them. Unfortunate, as they are so close. But for these prices and this behavior, I'll be going somewhere else. **Editing to add..when I submitted a chargeback, I discovered the receipt is falsified. The date is wrong by 2 days, and the amount is more. He actually billed me for $60.32 and not $58 which is what I have as a receipt.** read more

I first found this place 8 years ago when I was in college. I broke a pair of galoshes that were sentimental. I had been to countless stores and everyone said they couldn't be fixed. Then I stumbled onto Andrade Shoe Repair and they made them look like brand new. The manager, Anthony, is kind, cheerful, honest, and very knowledgable. Ever since I first found the store, I periodically take all of my shoes to him and he sorts through what should be repaired or polished, what doesn't need work, and what's not worth the money to fix. I will have to mostly agree with the previous reviews. The quality of the work is good (though, I've seen better), and they are very conveniently located. I've used them almost exclusively since this location opened up a few years ago, and have been a customer at other locations in Manhattan. Unfortunately, I am now going to look for a new shop for shoe repair. Even though I regularly get the same repair on the same pair of boots, I am quoted a different price nearly every time. There is nothing worse than feeling as if the person behind the counter is just picking some number out of thin air. I don't even want to consider how they come up with the charge! There is no price list visible in the store, so I have to trust that I will be treated fairly, and that all customers will be charged the same. But, between the somewhat high prices, and the variation in those prices, this does not seem to be the case. So - I'm on the hunt for a new shoe repair shop in the neighborhood. read more

This place gets the job done and the prices are fair, but kind of expensive. I think the quality of work that is done though is worth it. I love this place because of what happened when I was waiting in line... The man behind the counter is a hearty Italian with a wonderful accent. His son came running into the store (think 5 year old little Italian) yelling "heyyy PAPA, are you busy?" to which the father responded..."Son, I'm always busy!" Then the little boy came up to me and started talking. I asked him what his name was and he responded "My name is Antonio and my sisters name is Valentina." It was PRICELESS. All of this convo was spoken in a thick, awesome, Italian accent and I was delighted when I left. I have been telling this story to everyone and it's hilarious! Best service and quality. This guy is such a pro and humble. I brought in my 900 dollar shoes where I lost one ankle strap. our options were to cut the back or recreate the ankle strap. I opted for the former and he charged me so little that I tipped him the equivalent of the job. I bet you can't tell what he did -that's how amazing he is. read more

I came here to have an 8in zipper replaced on one of my boots and paid $30 (which seems to be the normal price). There is no price listing visible in the store though. It hasn't been a year since the last repair and the zipper broke again yesterday. After further examination I discovered it hadn't been properly sewed in. Went back today and pointed this out to the guy. He was very rude and tried to tell me it broke because I rubbed my feet together when I walked and didn't seem the least bit interested in helping me or answering any of my questions. The leather he found matched the original perfectly, so much so that my mom was confused the next time she saw me ("I thought you said the strap was frayed? It looks fine!" Little did she know...brand new!) He also charged me significantly less than the price I was quoted from several other shoe repair guys in the neighborhood (who were going to use completely different, mismatched materials), and finished the job two days earlier than he told me he would. read more

Needed to get the heels on my leather boots completely remade and leveled. Dropped them on at 5:30 pm on Tuesday and picked them up 7:30 am on Wednesday. It cost $35 and they look amazing. Plus they added a heavy duty sole to the bottom of both heels so they won't wear down as fast next time. Great service, excellent work and good prices. read more

Does not stand behind their product. I used to love this shoe repair shop. I thought the gentleman who ran the shop was charming. In the last year their quality has gone WAY down and they do not stand behind their product. -I used to get the taps of my heels re-done here. It was always very good and still may be. -I had a pair of rubber boots that split along the seam on the side of the boot at the ball of the floor. He said no problem to seal them back up. The seal lasted 1 week. No joke. I let this go as a flute and hoped for better. -Most recently I took leather winter boots into be re-soled and sealed up for the cold weather. $55 new soles. The first time I wore them out the side walks were wet and my feet got wet. There were gaps between the boot and the seal. I took them back to have them patched (which they did for free). Then 3 weeks later the sole on both boots split in two across the ball of the foot. I wore them for a week, with cold wet feet. I expected $55 new soles to last more than 3 weeks. -The worst part was my conversation with the previously charming store owner. I went back to show the split soles. He basically said it was my fault for walking to hard and that he would not fix the boots. Correction he would fix the boots for another $45 for half-soles. $55 for souls that last 3 weeks is a MAJOR RIP-OFF The shop was not willing to stand by their product, fix the issue, or even hear my point of view. They basically implied that I was lying about the amount of time it had been since the soles were put on. What a crappy experience. I will never go here again. read more

QUICK AND SOLID WORK (26-23 Broadway 99th street) Fernando brought back to life my very expensive ostrich/alligator (Christian Dior) made shoes that were completely destroyed with salt and water stains and holes on the soles. Fernando performed plastic surgery on them bringing my shoes back to life. Although they can be expensive the quality of work is OUTSTANDING. My husband is so happy that I am able to get use out of the $3,800 shoes he bought me. I am pretty new to the neighborhood, but see my self a long time customer. BUYER BEWARE! I purchased a pair of over-the-shoe Tingley rubbers for the wet weather. While placing them over my shoes for the 5th time one of the sides gave way and it is now torn and worthless to wear. The owner informed me he claims NO responsibility for this, or any product or service he sells. His words were . . . "once you walk out that door . . . that's it"! He went on to tell me how long he has been in business and that he doesn't care if he has now lost a customer. Is this any way to do business? Would you like to be treated this way? You should AVOID THIS PLACE, or suffer the consequences. The items he sells and the repair costs are very overpriced. I've been going here for 8-9 years because 1. I like to support a family business, and 2. as far as I can tell, it's the best shoe repair place in the Manhattan Valley/Morningside area. I've had them resole shoes, put on rubber half-soles, sew up torn shoes, replace worn-out linings, you name it. Most of the time the work is excellent. Occasionally, they screw up something, and when that happens, you're basically just screwed, because their general policy is to deny it was their fault. They accidentally bashed in the toe cap of a beautiful Chie Mihara pump of mine while putting on new heel caps; the shoes will never be the same again; yep, they made me pay for the heel caps anyhow, and popped the toe cap back in place to prove it was "no big deal" (it stayed for 2 minutes - broken is broken). I fumed and swore I'd never return, but then did return for want of better options. Most of the time their work is very good. Though, as others have noted, pricey - and sometimes the pricing does seem arbitrarily high, e.g. most recently they charged me $38 for applying rubber slip guards/half-soles to a pair of pumps. I could have sworn they did that job for $26 last time. (Note that they moved their business 1 block south a few months ago; they're now between 104th and 105th St.) read more

I am sorry to dis a local who has been in the neighborhood for many years BUT I gave him my expensive leather jacket to put a new zipper on, he took the job, put in a zipper, charged me, ONLY when I really needed the jacket on a trip out of the country it popped open. I manged to keep from catching cold, returned, and asked Andrade to please fix it or refund my money. He refused. Hey, if you mess up you should make good. Not this place. I am giving two stars b/c they did the work, but I did not feel that Andrade met my standards. I brought in three pairs of shoes-clog sandals that needed the topstitching to be redone, Isabel Marant sneakers for the grommet that ripped out to be replaced, and my Kork-ease sandals for the strap that broke out of the sole. The work was done, but the finishes were poor. There were loose threads on the clog's topstitching that should have been cleanly trimmed off. The grommet repair had two chopped up leather pieces put together for the grommet-the pieces could have been trimmed neatly and not jagged. And my Kork-ease sandals have glue stains and loose bits coming out. When I lived closer to Arty's, I received back shoes with the best finishes that shows pride and skill in their work. I was really disappointed that Andrade's finishes were not followed all the way through and felt crude, especially for my expensive shoes. I will definitely not go back and find another place.
