I found this cobbler 18 years ago on 8th Avenue in Manhattan in the low 20's and they still do amazing work. Now on 23rd Btwn 7th & 8th I am thrilled to have found them again. My days of high heels have mostly passed, and they rebuilt a number of my sandles - when I find something I love, what can I say. With my style now more Ariat paddocks they still provide quality work & take care of me. They even had hard to find laces for my boots (sadly Ariat does not sell laces). I came here to get the rubber sole placed on my brand new pair of Gucci heels. I had read the reviewed online for Tony's place, and because he had such great reviews, I came up from Financial District. Having brand new pairs of shoes, it was important to work with a cobbler that took special care so that they didn't get marred in the process. I dropped my shoes off on a Saturday and they were ready by Wednesday. When I picked them up, Tony showed me the soles of each shoe and we discussed the other restoration services he does on designer items. Because he did such a stellar job, I left another pair of Prada heels for re-soling. It was $55 for the rubber soles and new heel cap. Great price for the quality of work! I took my derbies that I've worn at least 4-5 times a week for 2 years now into to get the soles fixed, add rubber to them etc. and he did an incredible job blending the new rubber sole with the rest of the shoe. I have a pair of suede, knee-high boots that were very baggy around my knees. I took them to my usual tailor and she wasn't comfortable working with suede, so I did a search on Yelp and came across Cobbler Shoe Spa. I messaged them on Yelp and they got back to me within an hour. I dropped the boots off and was given a $120 quote and told they'd be ready in a week. They were ready a few days later than what they told me, but I wasn't in a rush so I didn't mind. $120 seemed a little steep to me, but I was given a similar quote initially by my original tailor, so I assume that must be a pretty standard quote for this type of material/boot. When I picked up my boots they were tailored perfectly to my knees, exactly how I wanted them to fit! This review is long overdue! Tony...he's a man of his word! He said he'd fix my Spy bag and fix it, he did! Soooo, my old Spy was faded and the opening to what many refer to as "the lipstick compartment" was loose and kept popping open. I came to Yelp to search through some reviews to see if anyone's had their Spy repaired in the Manhattan area. I don't think I saw any mentions of Spy repair, but I did see a lot of leather bag refurbishing n' wotnot. It was down to Cobbler Shoe Spa and another spot closer to my job. Cobbler had better prices. I think, overall, the reviews were better, too! I'd sent Tony pix of my bag. Also threw in a couple of pairs of boots to have resoled. He said he could make my bag like new. And he did!! But first... Ok, so he gave me a date to pick up my items then let me know it would be a few more days. No problem. When I went to pick up my boots and bag, he showed me my newly soled and polished boots and they were gorgeous! Then, the bag. Looked like new! My main concern was the lipstick compartment opening. When I went to open it...it fell off in my hand. Tony asked me to give him a few more days to repair it. My brain said, "if he could've fixed it, he would have." But...I left the bag and hoped for the best. A few days later, he let me know that I could pick up my bag. I got to the shop, opened the compartment and... IT WAS LIKE NEW! It was no longer loose. I would give them 6 stars if I could. They got back to me promptly on my handbag crisis, actually fix or replace handbags with tube style straps (which many places outside NYC don't; even a staffer at Coach said their repair service likely wouldn't be able to fix it), quoted a very reasonable price and do free pickup + delivery if you live in Manhattan. My bag also indeed looks brand new (I also opted to pay for cleaning since I was already dealing with the strap replacement). However, that's not why Tony deserves 6 stars. He deserves those because he told me he'd pick up the bag on Valentine's Day but actually picked it up a day earlier and told me it'd take a week but I then got the bag back yesterday. That was after he asked if I was available this evening to get the bag. No one EVER gives you timelines where they get things done before you're expecting them; that was an extremely nice surprise, especially when this is the bag I use everyday & I had to use a fanny pack in the meantime (one of my straps literally broke off after I tried to fix the damage myself by covering the straps). Oh and Tony also accepts Venmo so I didn't have to make trips on public transit or opt for some contact pay system.
