Found Dr Harrison via Zocdoc, and had I come across this Yelp page, wouldn't have thought twice about booking with him based on the previous Yelp reviews. Our first appt was first week of Oct 2023. I went in with ankle pain, and he diagnosed it as overpronation. I think that's accurate, but havent yet gotten a second opinion. He told me custom orthotics would fix this. His assistant would check on my insurance coverage ahead of next appt. He was running behind schedule, but that's typical at medical practices. He gave me a good amount of time/attention and explained things thoroughly... My follow up appt was the following week to get molds for my custom orthotics. While his assistant called to confirm the appt, she did not update me that my insurance would not cover the orthotics. In first appt, I was led to believe they would run ~$400. At my second appt, I excitedly showed him my recently purchased insoles, asking for his expert thoughts, given his 25+ years experience. And of course seeking validation that I chose good ones. He gave me no validation, simply stating "good for you" and when asked several times for his opinion, he said he will not comment on anything but custom, bc that's "what I sell". So it seems he is a sales person. Not an expert on podiatry. I get that he might not know as much about alternatives, but this was frustrating. If he doesn't sell the product, he'll hardly acknowledge they exist. So is he really solving the issue, or simply pushing a product? Next, he dramatically showed me a piece of paper his assistant filled out that referred to my insurance coverage. He said that I am not covered, and that he charges $850 for the uninsured. My jaw dropped, I asked him what about the $400 range discussed, and he said again, very calmly, matter-of-fact, "I charge $850". So, in (not) my best moment, I stood up and quietly left his office. I imagine this happens often, and I figured best to share my experience so other people will not waste their time here. read more

I needed a podiatrist and contacted the office for Dr. Harrison. His scheduler was very friendly, and I was able to secure an appointment for the following week. I found Dr. Harrison to be informative, patient, friendly and possesses an excellent bedside manner. He assessed my situation, listened to my concerns and thoroughly explained my options for a remedy. I'm very grateful to have found an excellent, experienced podiatrist. I hesitated a long time before writing this review. I don't like to speak ill of people. But ultimately I chose to visit Dr. Harrison because of his superlative Yelp reviews, and I just want to warn people that my experience was not at all what was described by other reviewers. Sure, he has the faults of most other doctors I've seen in SF: bedside manner leaves a bit to be desired, difficult to schedule appointments (he's only in SF one day a week), often there were long waits in the waiting room before I was seen. But frankly I've come to expect that stuff, and that alone wouldn't make a one star review. But misdiagnosis, general incompetence, and working against me absolutely does. I initially saw him for a foot injury. Despite my insistence that the pain was at the bottom of my foot, he insisted that the injury was actually on top. He does his own x-rays, so the real problem was a bit hard to see from the blurry images. Subsequent x-rays by a professional radiologist made clear that his diagnosis was incorrect. In fact, the cortisone shot he gave me masked my symptoms and may have ultimately made things worse. As far as general incompetence: after waiting weeks for an appointment to pick up my orthotics, I showed up to discover he had *lost them*. Only then did he offer to mail replacements to me, an option which would have gotten them to me nearly a month sooner had he mentioned it before. Then he had the nerve to charge me for the office visit! I complained that I hadn't actually received any medical services that visit, and he agreed to remove the charge. I'm still receiving bills to this day, months later. Obviously after this I moved on to a different podiatrist. But to Dr. Harrison's credit the orthotics he made were good, and I wanted to order another set. He provided me with the name of the lab and said the new doctor could order new orthotics based on our original molds. In fact, when the new doctor called, he was told that the molds had been *destroyed*. Apparently in the meanwhile Dr. Harrison had called and said they were no longer necessary. The one good thing I'd gotten out of his work was now gone. So you see why I had to write the review. I can't explain the contrast between my experience and that of the other reviewers, but ultimately this has been one of my worst medical experiences and I thought it was important that people know. read more

Do not waste your time or money with Dr. Harrison. This is hard to admit...as I am actually a 10 year patient of Dr Harrison's. While I haven't seen him in 5 years, something has clearly changed with him and his practice...and not for the good. Firstly, he is completely disorganized. He has had several offices around the Bay area for a while but can't seem to get to any of them on time. This seems to be the #1 complaint about the guy and it is not to be underestimated. He does not get the simple point that no one's time is more important than anyone else's time. He clearly thinks his time is more important and you will just have to wait for him to accommodate you....take it or leave it. Today, he was 1 hour late in just arriving at his office. There were five of his patients in his waiting room and he neither acknowledged or apologized to any of us as he strolled through the door. To make matters worse, when I asked fellow patients when their appointments were, all 5 of us had the same 10:30am appointment! This was extremely frustrating, unprofessional and unexplainable...except for the fact that Dr. Harrison is extremely disorganized. After waiting for another hour (which means he was a solid 2 hours late at this point) he called my name. While I thought I was going to go into a patient room, he instead berated me publicly in the patient waiting area for having asked his billing assistant if orthotics were covered by my insurance. (In the past, they were covered by my insurance...but my company had changed its insurance coverage recently...so I didn't know.) He basically screamed at me "Look! They are not covered by insurance ok?! If you want orthodics made, they are $575 a pair and that's that! Do not take up my assistant's time with your insurance questions!" I stared at him speechless and horrified. I and others in the room were very uncomfortable. I eventually said "uh...that's fine...I simply asked your billing assistant the question. I was referred to your billing assistant by the woman who answers your office phone you know....." He neither apologized or acknowledged my comment but, rather, told me to take a seat as he was running late. I told him I could help him get back on schedule by taking me off his appointment list, wished him a good day and left his office. 2 out of 4 patients clapped on my way out...not a bad exit I have to say. I later contacted Hangar Orthopedics on Geary Street. This is a first class organization and they will build you custom orthotics for $350 a pair. I personally inspected their product and it is identical to what Dr. Harrison made for me over 5 years ago. I think Dr. Harrison and Hangar may actually use the same outsourced company to manufacture the orthotics. But, at $350 a pair, you basically get two pair of orthotics from Hangar for the price of what Dr. Harrison charges for one pair....and oh!...you don't get the attitude or disorganization which come with Dr. Harrison. read more

I was in San Francisco on vacation when I severely twisted my ankle navigating the amazing streets - if you're a native, you know what I'm talking about! Not being from the area, I called a friend of mine to see if he knew of anyone I should go see. My friend recommended Dr. Harrison. Even though I was out of town, his office agreed to see me right away. They had no problem taking my insurance even though I was out of town, and I had only a 15 minute wait to see the Doctor. I was relieved to find out that I hadn't broken anything after the Xray Dr. Harrison took. He bandaged up my ankle, suggested I stay off it for a few days and sent me on my way. I'm not sure why there are negative reviews - I was seen quickly, Dr. Harrison genuinely cared about my condition, and did not try to up sell me on items or services that I didn't need. I wish more medical professionals were like Dr. Harrison! read more

Not sure what Yelp means by CLOSED, but Dr. Harrison's office is very OPEN and in practice. I'm surprised that other people have not yelped this Podiatrist before. I've been seeing Dr. Harrison for over ten years. Initially for custom orthotics and occasional foot injuries from sports. Fast forward ten years, a rich diet and lots of golf, gout and bunions present themselves in both my feet. After three months of excruciating pain which I thought would go away, Dr. Harrison diagnosed me with gout and bunions and performed two bunion surgeries for me within the same year with stellar results. For my initial surgery on my right foot, I told him I needed to be back on my feet within 8 weeks for a golf vacation. Although he couldn't guarantee that I would be able to play golf, his treatment and follow up care after the surgery allowed me to heal enough to be able to play pain free. I couldn't be happier with the results. I lasted about three months and 30 rounds of golf before I had a gout attack on my left foot. I was in New York when the gout pain set in. I called Dr. Harrison and he quickly called in a prescription for me to the nearest Duane Read drugstore to ease the pain. I immediately had my second surgery for bunions on my left foot with the same great results. Dr. Harrison is a very thorough podiatrist and spends time to educate his patients on what is causing their discomfort or pain. He's a very nice and empathetic doctor and genuinely cares about his patients, whether he's taking care of your ingrown toenail or performing surgery on you. His office in Laurel Village is conveniently located on the first floor and has parking in the back. He also has a location in the Financial District which I have visited when my schedule would not permit me to see him at his Laurel Village location. If you have foot problems and need a podiatrist, I highly recommend seeing Dr. Harrision. You might have to wait to see him because of all the time he spends with each patient, but you won't be disappointed. read more

Dr. Harrison is amazing! He is incredibly insightful, calming, and careful with everything. I was a bit worried going in but he totally put me at ease and did a fantastic job. Would totally recommend him to anyone looking for a good DPM. I saw some reviews here that talked about complications across his multiple offices. After seeing the great Yelp reviews on Dr. Harrison, I almost reconsidered posting this but then I read Kenneth B's review and I wholeheartedly agreed with him. I was able to schedule my appointments in SF, but Dr. Harrison was consistently late to every single one because he was usually walking in between several patients at a time. On average, I was waiting an extra 30-40 minutes in the waiting room to be seen. I wanted to see the doctor for an ankle injury and after three appointments, physical training, x-rays, and many many attempts to up-sell me to custom orthotics and cortisone treatments, I still have no resolution in my injury and pain. I subsequently went to a custom shoe store and got an over-the-counter solution that cost me 1/10th of what Dr. Harrison was going to charge me and that works great. I think the worst part about my entire experience with Dr. Harrison is that he told me he would check on my insurance plan and then proceeded to conduct treatments that weren't covered! So I ended up having to go on a payment plan to repay all of those medical bills. He pushed way too many medical options that weren't necessary for me and just cost a lot of time and money! read more

Perhaps the best overall medical experience I've had. I found Dr. Harrison through my medical provider as I wanted to see a specialist to quickly address a nagging issue. A few things stand out from my experience from that of other medical services that I've sought: 1. My appointment was promptly scheduled (2 days later) and he has 3 locations to choose from. The only reason it took 2 days was that I wanted to see him in a specific location! 2. My appointment started ON TIME. Dr. Harrison performed a procedure on my foot and the entire experience took less than 30 mins. I saw him on a lunch break! =) 3. The atmosphere, his demeanor, explanation and execution of the procedure was top rate. 4. Dr. Harrison personally followed up a week later to check-in and remind me of post procedure care. Dr. Harrison is truly a practitioner that cares for his patients and offers top-notch service. As such, I strongly recommend Dr. Harrison to anyone looking for a podiatrist. read more

I went see Dr. Harrison for my ingrown toe nail. I was amazed that they were able to schedule me on the day I called. Very polite doctor and very reassuring in his converstation. He made sure that I wasn't in pain the whole time. The surgery went fast and smooth just as he promised and I felt better as soon as I got off the chair. I took my 8-year old son in to see Dr. Harrison. He was gentle, and very good at explaining things as he was giving the exam, which is really important when dealing with children. I found his bedside manner to be calm and reassuring. My son had a few warts on his feet, and before recommending surgery, which a lot of doctors do, he gave me some easy, non-invasive OTC suggestions for treatment. I was so pleased with his sensitivity to my son, who has a fear of dr's, needles, and pretty much anything in a medical setting. I came back to him for some custom orthotics, which have really made a difference in my overall gait and dramatically reduced the slight residual pain I was having in my back. Who would believe that you could get all that resolved in your shoes. But you can, and Dr. Harrison is the best doc to do it. read more

I have visited 30+ doctors in my lifetime, and several podiatrists. Not only is Dr. Harrison the best podiatrist I've met but he's the best *Doctor* I've ever met or worked with - bar none. I have been seeing Dr Harrison for about 4 years. My initial visit was for an ingrown toe nail. I have had several in my 65 plus years. He treated me and I must say it was my first pain free experience with an ingrown nail. Since then he has provided wound care for my diabetes related foot issues. With his treatment I have only had minor issues. I see Dr Harrison weekly. I never have to wait more than 10 to 15 minutes and he doesn't complain when I am a little late. (I was given Dr. Harrison's name by a good friend. ) I had horrible pain in my right foot. I was convinced that I had glass in my foot and even remembered feeling it penetrate my foot. After waiting months for the glass to surface, my friend finally suggested that I call her Podiatrist. (I think she was tired of watching me limp from the pain.) It turns out that it was actually a plantar's wart that had coned itself into my foot and was pressing up against my nerve. It was beyond painful! Dr. Harrison, knew that it was a wart, the minute he saw me. He listened and explained all my options. He also validated my situation by explaining that what felt like glass going into my foot, was actually the wart getting shocked and beginning to grow. I ended up visiting him a second time to have the procedure done. In his office he prepped the area on my foot, numbed it and removed it. He was calm, friendly, reassuring and really listened. I finally had a third follow-up appointment and everything checked out great. Dr. Harrison was sensitive to the fact that I had no medical insurance, quoted me a fair price and also gave me his cell phone number so that I could check in with him if I had any questions and concerns.
