When I closed on my first house many years ago, my lender kept us waiting on the closing table for over 6 hours getting his documents straight. I learned from then the importance of having highly reliable lenders offering great rates. Fast forward to the house I closed yesterday, I have done lots of research and used 5 lenders through the whole journey. I used USAA, Better Mortgage (a Costco partner), a friend's broker, my realtor's recommended broker, and Andrew Thurston of Austin Capital. I found Andrew thru Zillow from their list of 5 star lenders. So I sent Andrew a message on a Sunday and was surprised to get a call back within few hours. He was very pleasant to talk to. He divulged right out that they do not have an office here in San Antonio but assured me that it would not make any difference. He surprised me even more that Sunday when he emailed me that evening with the estimate for the amount I was trying to borrow. He then stayed in touch with us throughout our whole house-hunting journey and made us feel that he was readily available when needed, and replied within hours via email, text messages or phone calls. When it was finally time to select the lender, his offer was still way better than the other offers we received. My realtor was initially concerned that he may be hiding some costs due to the cost difference of his disclosures. But in the end, his closing disclosure was very close to his initial disclosures. He completed the final approval and sent out the closing disclosure 5 days before our scheduled closing. Even my realtor who's been in business for over 20 years instantly became a fan. And just to illustrate how proactive this guys is, he stayed in contact with us and remained standing by on the phone during our closing. Andrew's professionalism and customer service is way above and beyond than many that I have seen or heard of. He is very knowledgeable on the mortgage rules / laws, very accurate on his estimates and very detailed on his explanations. He deserves more than 5 stars in all aspects.
