Tried to see this Doctor, Had an appointment but staff has been lazy and incompetent. I scheduled an appt to see this Doctor, and the same day I spoke with the secretary and asked her if she can email me the Intake Forms due to a serious right arm injury I am unable to write so I can type all the documents, print them out and bring them on the day of my appointment since she also told me that NOBODY CAN HELP YOU HERE YOU NEED TO WRITE THIS YOURSELF, EVEN DO I CAN NOT WRITE, the secretary spoke with the Office Manager and they agree to email me the forms. SOMETHING THAT ANY OTHER DR OFFICE HAS DONE. 2 weeks later NO EMAIL WAS EVER SENT, I call this office again and a lady stated she was the Office Manager who had my information and guaranteed me she will email me the forms and NEVER DID. I called the Manhattan Office and unfortunately I spoke with Daisy who cut me off every single second and refuse to help by telling Dr Turtel this incident and see how can I get the form, instead Daisy was "Very Bothered" by my phone call. I will not waste my time with this Doctor since his staff is not friendly nor reliable. read more

On July 17th 2024, I got arthroscopy, distal claviculectomy, distal articular surface (Mumford procedure) surgery on my right shoulder. He called me the night of the procedure to see how I'm doing and gave me the best care at the hospital in Union Square. I'm currently recovering for the next few weeks from surgery. I speak highly of Dr Turtel. He's listens to me and takes the time to evaluate and understand my pain and situation. I recommend him. read more

Dr. Andrew Turtel is an excellent physician and surgeon. I I was having pain in one knee, when I walked. On the recommendation of my general doctor, who told me he referred ALL of his patients with knee issues to Dr, Turtel, because everyone he referred had a successful outcome, I set up an appointment. For about 12 years he worked with me, to keep my knees functional and postpone knee replacements until absolutely necessary. In time, Dr Turtel successfully replaced both knee joints and also repaired a shoulder. The outcome of each surgery was highly successful. - I can do yoga postures, including lotus posture, with my new knee joints. And, his office team is highly helpful and considerate. Dr. Turtel is the best & is worth the 65 mile drive from NJ! - I was first referred to Dr. Turtel in 1997 by a friend of mine. The words that caught my attention were "He will listen to what you say, he will order the appropriate tests, he will present you with your options and then ultimately make his recommendation." My right knee problems go back to 1985 when I blew my knee out by ripping 3 of the 4 ligaments and the knee capsule. The operation that took place in PA, which was NOT performed by Dr. Turtel, proceeded to get infected with a staph infection and ultimately a bone infection. The infection eroded much of the cartilage and the doctors pretty much guaranteed me that I would require a knee replacement by the time I was 35. In 1997, I was 32 when I went to see Dr. Turtel thinking that my knee replacement was coming 3 years early. During my appointment, unlike many other doctors, he was not rushing to see the next patient and I had his full attention. After the consultation and the testing, Dr. Turtel assured me that the knee replacement was not needed and he would not perform that operation until it was absolutely necessary. He proceeded to clean my knee out which eliminated the pain at that time. Over the next 15 years, he had to clean it out a couple more times. On a separate occasion, when I had fluid on my knee that was causing a great amount of pressure, he drained it without a problem. I am now 54 and still have not had that knee replacement thanks to Dr. Turtel. In addition to my knee, when my shoulder was "freezing up" about 5 years ago, he fixed the cartilage and it has felt fine since. In 2011, he treated the tendinitis in my elbow and in October he relieved the pain in my other knee by trimming the cartilage. Over the years I have referred at least 4 other people to him. I would have to tell anyone that reads this, my ultimate trust for Dr. Turtel is that my then 11 year old son who played football, travel baseball and travel basketball became a patient of Dr. Turtel's in 2011 due to a knee injury. Referred to me through insurance. He seems to be interested in working with athletes but thoroughly arrogant if you are not. He spent 5 minutes with me and the examination consisted of telling me to walk as he watched me. He then said, 'Do you know what a rep is? You need to do strength training.' That was it. I came to see the doctor after being referred from my insurance company. I was in extreme pain from an injury to my knee a few weeks prior. The doctor examined me and could not diagnose anything wrong. I was happy to hear but still really concerned about my pain so I went ahead and decided on my own to get an MRI even though I was dissuaded to get an MRI by the doctor MRI showed that I had a partially torn ACL a bone bruise and a Bakers cyst. The Dr. did not stick around until I got the results of my MRI at the office and it took us a week to track him down for us to hear the results He gave no direction or no recommendations on what to do. I have since gone to other doctors who are absolutely appaled by his unprofessional behavior. The doctor was quite dismissive and would not answer the questions I asked. In addition the office in Brooklyn told us that they accepted our insurance when in fact they did not . They asked us to pay cash on the spot ($350 plus an additional $300) We are taking this to hire authorities but I wanted to let the general public to be aware read more

I highly recommend Dr. Turtel without hesitation. I saw him several years ago for knee surgery and it's been great ever since. And I returned to him last month for a shoulder tear. He operated on that two weeks ago and I am already on the mend. Dr. Turtel understands the particular needs and frustrations of athletes, and he is as knowledgeable as he is experienced. Dr. Turtel was nice but he was unable to diagnose my knee problem or give me any specific remedy to lessen my pain. In contrast, I went to a different orthopedist who went through the MRI with me, explained what was going on, answered all my questions (Dr. Turtel's answers verged more on the 'I don't know' scale) and gave me specific home exercises to do. Don't waste your time and money. The only benefit I gained from seeing this doctor is that because he is in network, the MRI will cost me less than if an out of network doc ordered it. read more

I highly recommend Dr. Turtel. He's performed 2 meniscus surgeries for me as well as surgery for various friends and family I have referred to him. All were pleased with his treatment. The results on my knee surgery are so good I can't even tell the knee was operated on. He explains everything thoroughly and gives you as much information as possible in terms a layperson can understand so you can make an informed decision. He never pushes you into anything. HE BLINDSIDED ME INTO PAYING A DEDUCTABLE. Doctor's Bedside Manner: 7/10 Doctor's Professionalism: 0/10 Front Desk Receptionist Professionalism: 1/10 X-Ray Technician Professionalism: 0/10 Accounts Payable Secretary: 3/10 Integrity: -10/10 I made an appointment through Zoc Doc. The service is great. It's simple and easy to use. You tell them what insurance company you have and the doctors that have that insurance approve the appointment or not. Well, Dr. Turtel apparently does not follow that logic. He accepted not one but two appointments with me through zoo doc despite the fact that he is not covered by my insurance. I was not aware of this fact since I had received no communication from Dr. Turtel or his staff regarding important piece of information. I arrived at his office to see that I was the only patient that after noon. When I walked in the front desk reception appeared startled or afraid for some reason. It was bothersome. She standing in front of the reception area and her demeanor was odd. There was a dead silence in the office. She asked me to go to the first room and sit. I followed her direction. She brought over papers from zoo doc to confirm my information and to sign and provide ID and a copy of my insurance card. Again, I followed her direction. She returned awkwardly again. She never greeted me. She was not polite. She was awkward and off putting. I see doctor who stated he needed to take x-rays since I did not have any. The x-ray technician is just as awkward as the receptionists. He seems to be very unhappy with his job. He makes almost no eye contact and he mumbles something to me but I couldn't here. Again, no greeting, no polite words, nothing. Just dead silence. I get into the x-ray room he takes my x-rays and I swear he demeanor was as dead and cold as that x-ray table. He didn't offer to even help me get down despite the fact that I am in crutches. Finally, Check out. Mr. Turtel has informed me that I would need to return in two weeks for a follow up and that I would be ok. He walks me over to a back office where his accounts secretary is. She tells me that I owe $300 plus dollars. I was confused since I have insurance and I am fully covered. She stated, oh no, you have a deductible so it's $200. I again, asked why would I have to pay so much if I have insurance and she says well he is out of your network. She began explaining to me what that meant but I already knew what it meant. However, what I was now upset about was the fact that I had been seen by four staff and have already received services and now they want to tell me that I am not covered by insurance. I told her that I was not aware. She said, "oh, the doctor didn't tell you. that's weird. he confirms all zoo-doc appointments himself. let me check with him." I knew she was full of "***" immediately and stated well this is a full care appointment so if you pay $100 now and next time you pay the next $100 then all of your visits will be free. I explained to her that I could pay the visit 10 times over at the moment if I wanted to but the fact that I was not informed ahead of time was OUTRAGEOUS. Clearly I was one of few clients for the day so taking anyone was worth while but this is not their first time at the rodeo. They knew exactly what they were doing. They did not inform me about being out of network or I would have canceled that appointment and signed up with one of the hundreds of orthopedic surgeons in new york that are in my network. They can swallow those $200 and pay their light bill for the day but to be honest it is a tragedy that these doctors do this. It doesn't hurt my pocked but $200 would sure hurt some others. I hope they get exposed for this trash and of course I will not be taking my free appointment visits despite having already paid for it. They can kiss my ass. BBB here I come. Best orthopedic surgeon and individual I have ever dealt with. He is operated on me (my knee) on three occasions. He is a pleasure to deal with. Every time I have got to him, he came out to meet me in the waiting room and took me on time or even early. He is extremely thorough and explains everything in detail. He takes the time and will not let you leave until you are completely satisfied with his explanation. I am so comfortable with and his entire office that my son and daughter have got to him over the years. He recently operated on my son and again spent a lot of time with him. I have not only sent family members to him close friends as well. Everyone has been 100% satisfied with both Dr. Turtel and his staff. I have dealt with many orthopedic surgeons (I used to be an athletic trainer for a small college) and have never met another orthopedist or any doctor for that matter who spends more time with the patient that he does. He truly cares and wants to make sure that you are completely satisfied. There needs to be more doctors like him in our society. A surgeon with his ability, qualifications and compassion are truly a rare thing today. read more
