Dr. Sheskier examined my left foot and declared that, " Maybe it's from a bed bug bite!". 2 weeks prior my left foot and ankle were black and blue and very swollen. The doctor NEVER QUESTIONED OR LOOKED for the cause of those symptoms. Gout? Blood clots, I was in cardiac Rehap in NYU Langone for most of 2023! I was sent to Dr. Sheskier many times for a second opinion before having my Stonybrook orthopedic perform surgery. After that surgery my foot became gangrene and I lost all faith in Stonybrook. I followed with a local orthopedist who sent me back to Dr. Sheskier for a second opinion. After being sent to this highly recommended orthopedic specialist surgeon I honestly felt that I liked his personality and how he took the time to carefully explain his feelings and opinions about how he would fix my foot. I chose to stick with Dr. Sheskier for 14 years and he performed multiple surgical procedures to help me. Dr. Sheskier did emergency surgical procedures and I honestly felt that most of these procedures helped me considerably. Regrettably the last surgical procedure that he performed after Covid 19 outbreak, I feel something went terribly wrong because my 3rd and 4th toes that were straight and strong became floppy and limb. Dr. Sheskier's only professional opinion and suggestion to fix them and straighten these toes out was to simply sew them together. Dr. Sheskier never admitted that the procedure he performed went terribly wrong or that he did something wrong. With all of my follow up appointments, and constant complaints about the severe pain and discomfort in these toes, I honestly felt that he did not take me seriously. Each time I carefully explained how I felt and the severe pain and discomfort with these toes literally laying underneath the other toes and the severe pain from the pressure was intense. I honestly felt he chose to simply ignore me and I was not thrilled or happy with him walking out of the exam room while I was still speaking. After I put so much faith and trust in this doctor for all these years and allowed him to operate on both of my feet many times, I felt like this was clearly not the same doctor who actually cared about truly helping patients in pain. I ended up leaving this doctor and went to another provider that had to place a pin in the 3rd toe and hardware to straighten it out. I can no longer bend this toe but thank God it is not floppy or underneath my other toes. I am currently waiting for insurance approval to do the same procedure on my 4th toe. It's totally unbelievable that I had to find another doctor just to fix what I honestly feel that it was due to something Dr. Sheskier may have done wrong during this surgical procedure. I certainly feel that the sole reason my toes went limb and floppy were from something touched or accidentally cut, or removed that shouldn't have been. While this review highlights concerns about Dr. Sheskier's failure to flag a foot cyst, which literally ballooned into a much larger problem, I also want to stress the general need for patients to advocate for a comprehensive review of their test results. Dr. Sheskier's seeming oversight is in part a function of a broken U.S. healthcare system doesn't always encourage specialists to take a careful look. I saw Dr. Sheskier in the summer of 2023 for a left ankle sprain that wasn't healing. An MRI and related report, which I had access to, revealed that I had a slight muscle tear and inflammation at the base of my foot. The last line of the report noted that I had a ganglion cyst near my ankle. Dr. Sheskier did not mention the cyst during my brief appointment, nor did he acknowledge it in his hasty follow-up notes. My physical therapist, who did not ask to see the full MRI report, based my subsequent treatment on the assumption that the tear and inflammation amounted to the sole source of my foot issues. After getting discharged from physical therapy in late 2023, I continued to experience intermittent foot pain that I attributed to a slow-healing tear. This spring, I saw a new physical therapist for problems with my right hip. She looked at the full MRI report and zeroed in on the cyst, which she speculated had gotten bigger and was the underlying source of the long-term problems with my foot and the new ones with my hip. I followed up with a podiatrist and am now in the process of trying to schedule surgery to get the cyst removed, roughly a year after the MRI. That's a year of experiencing perennial foot pain, walking around in a brace and developing related hip issues -- without understanding the full story as to why. I cannot speculate about whether Dr. Sheskier noticed the cyst in my MRI report and didn't think it was worth mentioning, or if he didn't see it all. Regardless, I urge patients that are considering seeing him -- or any doctor or physical therapist -- to ensure that their test results are thoroughly reviewed. Where's the integrity? So I felt you all should know that Dr. Sheskier MD, who specializes in foot and ankle care, was asked to review an approval for my much needed spinal surgery, which I was injured on my job . Well the QME doctor stated in his report to get the patient to surgery right away because her spine that once measured 10cm is now a very dangerous 16cm and the hardware needs to be placed back on her spine to prevent further damage and extreme pain along with possible stroke because the patient had been hospital on several occasions and the hospital physician said the exact same recommendation that surgery was needed asap!!! Well, Dr. Sheskier, who is NOT certified in the state of California, nor is he a spinal surgeon, DENIED my surgery saying, "Not medically feasible nor not necessary at all. Wow! Who does that? Where is the integrity here? Also this doctor has never laid eyes on me to examine me in person but only read a report via online and DENIED my surgery twice after reviewing proper exams, ct scans ,second opinions and two QME reports proving numbers had increased to a very dangerous level for anyone's spine. I believe that no doctor who hasn't seen the patient in which he or she has paper work on from other surgeons should not deny a patient from a much needed surgery. Especially if he or she is the final result unless that final decision is made after the patient has been seen by the final doctor who has to approve the decision. That doctor or surgeon should have to travel to whatever state the patient is in and examine the patient and then compare the results that was given instead of just making a decision because he or she thinks the opposite of the written results. When two or more doctors agree with a decision, why should one other disagree? Sounds like this doctor has no feeling for others pain except foot or ankle. Best orthopedic surgeon in nyc! He performed multiple surgeries on me and I wouldn't trust any other doctor. On a few occasion, after getting injured and being sent home from the emergency room, dr. Sheskier was able to diagnose and treat the injuries even when the ER doctors missed on the x-rays! The wait time is usually 15-45 minutes but totally worth it. Maggie has years of experience in all forms of insurance. My case was Workers Compensation. A ton of paperwork. She was so good that I never had a problem or missed a check. Dania keeps the office at an EXPERT, PROFESSIONAL and efficient level. They won't have you waiting for hours like most doctors. Dr. Sheskier's office gets it RIGHT. My experience with Dr Sheskier was not at all positive. He seems like a man that is at the end of his career and has given up completely on caring for his patients - incredibly unprofessional and couldn't be bothered. AVOID!!!!!!!!! Due to his affiliation with NYU network I went to see him the day after my ankle injury. He seemed more interested in teaching the medical student accompanying him than speaking to me - as he moved my incredibly painful injured ankle around, me sitting there in tears, he was speaking to her - and when he noticed me crying & grimacing said "sorry, i'm just walking through the anatomy with her". The appointment was unprofessional & very fast and he recommended an MRI. The woman at the front desk whose name I did not catch was excellent & worked very hard to get me a same day MRI appointment. I was told I would be contacted by the doctor after the MRI results were returned to the office - 1-2 days later. As this was a Friday, I expected to be contacted Tuesday, Weds at the latest. No call at all that entire next week - I finally contact the office Friday, 1 week later, male receptionist says - sorry, we don't have them yet, that's weird. I call back the following Weds - same thing, nope we haven't gotten them, but we should have! He digs and realizes because they spelled my name wrong, the MRI results weren't found - so now that he was able to find them, he would have the doctor review & get back to me. I finally get a call from his assistant telling me I have severe ligament damage & to come in 'to discuss treatment" 2 weeks later.... Fine. I set up 2nd appointment and it has now been 18 days since my injury when I arrive, still on crutches. Doctor COULDNT BE LESS CONCERNED WITH MY INJURY OR MORE UNPROFESSIONAL. Commented on my appearance - used profanities - got me in & out of his office in less than 5 minutes - avoided my questions - told me he'd write me a script for PT and then left the room. I assumed that meant I too should leave, so i walked back to the front desk. Front desk guy told me PT script isn't ready yet, I could wait - might be a while - or he could email it to me / a PT place of my choice. I chose email - I hate waiting. HA! It took AN ENTIRE WEEK to get my PT script!!! I had to phone the office 3 times to follow up and I finally got my script 7 days later. Dr Sheskier went above and beyond what any doctor had to do. My Uncle who is a diabetic has an infection in the bone of his toe, he has been going through a hard time just losing his wife and ignoring his own health while taking care of her. I have been trying to get him to Texas so I can care for him, and so he would not be alone. However he has refused not wanting to be a bother (which he could never be). Dr Sheskier gave his suggestion on the surgery needed and said he could Do it. However he asked my Uncle who was home to look after him once The surgery was over being a diabetic issues can occur. My Uncle replied he was now on his own and I would be returning to TX. Dr Sheskier could see how important this was to me And how concerned I was for my Uncle. Instead of making a buck off of the Surgery he could easily do himself, he told my uncle to go to Texas have the Surgery let your niece take care of you, get well than come back home. He even went as far as to look up a doctor for us. When he found out the Doctor retired he called his mentor in Dallas and asked for recommendations for Houston that he felt would be a personal good match for my Uncle. Dr sheskier sold me on a "limited ankle fusion". He left me unfused for 8 months. And when I got other opinions I was told that there is no such thing as a limited fusion. I had a repeat fusion that worked. But was extremely aggressive because of the first surgery. In all honesty he's arrogant and a quack that couldn't diagnose a failed ankle fusion. Had chilectomy surgery in April 2015. Was told success rate was 85%. I was in the 15% of unsuccessful. Will likely have chronic pain for the rest of my life, which is unfortunate as a life long runner. He's a bit wacky....but a typical NYC elitist surgeon. read more
