A small, freestanding building with a neon sign and red front awning caught my eye as we were heading to do some shopping. I saw the name and when we finished shopping I knew I wanted to try some of Andrew's Atomic Dogs! Plain and simple inside, we went to the counter to read the large overhead menu and order. I ordered the 1 House Dog Combo and my husband had the 2 Dog Combo ( 1 house dog and 1 Sausage Dog). We both had fries and drinks. There's sweet tea, unsweetened tea, lemonade, bottles of soda and fountain soda. The fries were hot, freshly cooked and not greasy. The all beef hot dogs were served with Andrew's chili, a bit sweet but I loved it with the chopped onions and mustard. My husband had the atomic chili...not really hot but he enjoyed it. The rolls are nicely grilled and I wish I could have eaten more. Everyone was friendly and service was great. Andrew brought all the food out very quickly and asked if we were enjoying everything.

Bow-wow-wow-yippee-yo-yippee-yay! What a little gem we found. We were traveling north to buy some new furniture and found Andrew's Atomic Dogs during a quick dive, looking for a unique lunch place. We're HUGE George Clinton fans (see above) so Andrew's listing grabbed our attention right away. And hey, we're sure glad we stopped! AAD is small, cool, and personable. If it's your first time, the mothership (counter) is patient and will happily answer your questions. BONUS: Andrew was actually there keeping an eye on the floor...and football scores. He checked in with us personally to make sure everything was satisfactory. So let's talk about the dogs. Beef, grilled bun, and homemade chili. A+. Yes, AAD has a few other items (wings, burgers, shrimp, etc.), but everyone we saw was eating dogs. We ordered some jumbo chili/cheese dogs with crispy onion rings. Presentation was on point and everything looked "together" (versus sloppy). Andrew succeeds where most hot dog jockeys fail; he takes dogs seriously. Quality ingredients served hot and assembled RIGHT before you receive it. Sounds simple, right? Price point perfectly matches the product. Dining room and decor are well laid out for a small hot dog "diner" style experience. We look forward to our next AAD run, chili/cheese dogs, and chatting with Andrew.

Food was five stars but the constant noise of two TVs blasting drove us out. We came for hot dogs and that's what I ordered. Mine was a grilled beef hotdog on a toasted bun, with ketchup and mustard. Oh my, ball park good, lovely and hot. My husband ordered the club sandwich off the menu board and it was thick with lettuce, tomatoes, bacon, and sliced turkey, so thick he needed both hands to hold it. Food is highly recommended. Service was great.

I drove 21 miles ( one way) to try this place out today. Based on the majority of Yelp reviews this was going to be a good dining experience! I walked in and wandered up to the cash register and informed the lady that this was my first time here. No response whatsoever! She looked at me in a way that made me feel uncomfortable! I wondered if maybe there was something on my face that made her want to ignore me! I faked a slight cough so I could indiscreetly run my hand over my nose and face to make sure that there wasn't something there that shouldn't be there. All I got was a glaring stare! Finally, she asked me what I wanted. She got it all wrong! This is basically a hotdog joint! How can it be possible to incorrectly take my order for three hotdogs?"The food did arrive very fast! I could sense that I wasn't welcome here and that my presence wasn't making anyone's day better by my being here! The Atomic Hotdogs are solid! They are good! Not great : just good . The only thing special about the chili was that it was moderately hot! Underneath the heat ; it was ordinary! The child size fry was just that: child size. Frozen crinkle cut fries at that. The iced tea was the worst thing that I had! Incredibly weak; too sugary! It's reported that the owner is friendly and welcoming. He was that way to every customer in his dining room except me! I had to wonder if I had body odor or maybe I wasn't dressed appropriately! I felt very self conscious! That's a bad first impression to give a new customer who possibly would be a regular! Overall; I was made to feel unwelcome and don't know why! I was a hungry, paying customer just wanting to have a good dining experience! I didn't get one at all- just the opposite! Would I return? NEVER! Would I recommend this place to anyone: NOT ON YOUR LIFE!

From to bottom: Turkey dog (pink sword), atomic dog, large fries, atomic dog. YUM

Holy hot dogs. This place is an absolute GEM. It may look small on the outside but it's packs a punch. The staff were excellent and the regulars were even willing to give advice. The atomic dog came with spicy chili and I've never tasted a better hot dog. The chili is excellent. The hot dog buns came toasted which was definitely the icing on the cake, a really nice touch. The fries were perfectly warm and crispy too. Boyfriend and I got a large fry, but we may want to get a small fry next time so I can get two dogs instead of just one. The sweet tea was good southern sweet and they had that perfect tiny ice that makes for good chewing. If you're in the mood for a hot dog, or even if you're not, all I can say is: Go to Andrew's!!

Andrew's Atomic Dogs is the newest "dog" spot in Spartanburg, and it is one worth trying! You can find it on Union Street, across from Duncan Park - look for the red awning. Inside, the space is small and the line was nearly out the door when we arrived! Be aware at the height of lunch hour that it might be difficult to get a table. Also, full disclosure, either the air conditioner was broken or they don't have it hooked up yet. It was quite warm inside, but not unbearable. The menu was printed and passed down the line as folks ordered, and it took about 10-15 minutes for the food to come out. They did a great job with the space, which has a quaint diner feel. The menu is simple, with 4 dog choices - house dog, atomic dog, turkey dog and sausage dog. Choose one, and add your own toppings. A must-try is the atomic chili for sure! It is a great combination of sweet and spicy. The house chili is very similar, just without the spice, so it tends to be on the sweeter side. Also on the sweeter side, the sweet tea - like syrupy sweet! I tried the atomic dog (I love spice!) with cheese and the turkey dog with house chili, while the hubs got two house dogs with house chili, one with cheese and one with onions. Add fries and onion rings and you have way too much for lunch, but it was all good. The Facebook page advertises "fresh dipped and battered onion rings", but the ones I got looked a bit different. Fries were pretty standard. The food came out piping hot, and I love how loaded the dogs were with the toppings. Great ratio of dog:bun:toppings. The turkey dog was great too if you are looking for a lighter option! Hot dogs can be a personal preference, just like burgers, so try Andrew's Atomic Dogs for yourself and let us know what you think! A shame to hear they are not renewing their lease and will be closing. The owner told me they are opening a different style place downtown and may re-open a place like the current joint in the east side but it will be a while. Really unfortunate as the burgers here are top shelf. I had to try both a dog and a burger - both Carolina style. Their chili is amazing so it really set both the dog and burger off. I added grilled onions to the burger and they were cooked perfectly. The fries are fresh cut and flavorful but they are cut very small. One recommendation to the owner, go to a more substantial fry. I highly highly recommend this place. Get in here before they close!!

It all looks really good and is a great size serving. But personally, I feel like the burgers and sandwiches are lacking seasoning. Don't get me wrong, you definitely taste the beefy-ness of the patty's and the meats, but I find myself having to add mayonnaise, ketchup, and salt and pepper on the patties and fries. I've been here 4 times, the 1st and 2nd times were not like that, but my 3rd and 4th were. Service was good, order at the counter then take a seat where you'd like and they'll bring it out. Self-serve on drinks. Small cozy and tight dining space, but it works! I will miss this place. 8/10

I was eating a standard all the way dog. My buddy started asking about whether NW offers live music. We were informed that an open jam commences every Thursday at 9. "9:00pm? Must not be bluegrass. . . That's fine, I'm in." I thought to myself. Dropped Jared off. Got out of work attire, grabbed a couple guitars, and went back to Sparkle City to see about this jam. It wasn't quite what I would call a jam, but lemme tell you. There's this four piece band who plays a bitchin set to get everybody in the mood, then, something that seems like the bastard child of open mic and karaoke ensues. Musicians are encouraged to come lay something down. They can play solo, or they can be accompanied by a band who can quickly learn the song. What an opportunity, do John on the drums, Shawn on the slide with an SG, Drew (?) with a hollow body Telecaster and (sorry I forgot the name, but) Santa Ray Cyrus on the more than 4 strings bass, offer to amateur musicians! You can lead a band for a few songs! This is the kind of bar where all walks of life commune. The staff is prompt and polite. The drinks are affordable. Douchebaggery seems to be minimal. Oh yeah, if the hot dog orders aren't too backed up, Josh (the executive chef) sits in on the drums. He can flat out play! Thanks for the gracious hospitality, band members and bar staff. I'll be back as time allows. Great job!
