As the name suggests, you can find both tacos (and other mexican options) as well as hot dogs with a variety of toppings. ​The line does tend to get long due to the popularity of this spot, so I'd advise getting there early for lunch. Hop right in line and order your meal at the buffet-style counter, where you can see your grilled meat and fresh topping choices! Tip: they have cilantro in the fridge, you just have to ask for it ;) They'll give you a cup to make your own drink, and word on the street is that they have one of those fancy new touch screen soda machines since I've visited!! Of the many, many times I've been to Taco Dog, this was the first time that I'd gotten hot dogs, and I was impressed! They always grill them, never steam. On the left is the "The Grill", which I'd equate to cheesesteak toppings on a hot dog: grilled peppers and onions, mustard, and melted cheese. And then of course I had to try the "Taco Dog", which comes topped with mustard, slaw, chipotle sauce, and hot pepper relish. Personally, I favored "The Grill", but both dogs were grilled to perfection and served with fresh, hot fries. My husband also favors their corn dog! Most of the time, I head to Taco Dog for a mexican option like a burrito, tacos, or like this day, nachos. Clearly they do not skimp on the toppings! With any of the mexican dishes, you get the choice of rice and/or beans, plus their meat options are steak, chicken or ground beef. Finish it off with a wide array of other topping choices like lettuce, cheese, fresh salsa, olives, guacamole, sour cream, etc. Dishes aside from nachos are served with chips on the side. Add some queso!! There are a few tables outside which fill up quickly on nice days! I came to Taco Dog after hitting the local gym in the same complex. I was visiting a friend in SC and decided instead of eating the groceries i bought during my visit, i would try a few local spots. I ordered the first burrito that i was recommended with all of the extras. It was a little bit smaller than I liked for the price point but it did have a decent flavor. The only reason it got 3 stars instead of 4 is due to the dirty tables and chairs. I went to sit down and noticed salsa all over a chair, so i chose another table and there were crumbs all over the table top. A funky little place just around the corner from us. We stopped in for lunch yesterday and enjoyed it. The menu is, well, Tex mex and hot dogs. I went with two signature dogs, the Chicago and the House signature Taco Dog. I think the dogs are Nathan's brand. Warm, not hot. The bun was ample, but could possibly be steamed for a softer texture. The toppings were good: the Chicago had most of the traditional toppings, minus the neon green relish. This was missed. The Taco Dog was better, with the mustard and chipotle mayo working surprisingly well together. Overall, a fun place. We wouldn't go there for Mexican food, but we'd go back for the dogs. read more

We needed lunch and close and saw this place nearby. Serves your typical texmex of burritos, tacos, etc. Only it also has hotdogs in different ways. I was pleasantly surprised. Service was fast and friendly. Clean as well. I ended up getting the steak bowl. I am often leery because the steak can be chewy. I tend more towards shredded beef. This one ended up being very good so I was happy. Like others you can customize your burrito. My daughter was thrilled with a pineapple choice. She does it on her pizza so why not her burrito. Went to visit my mother in a little town in SC, and we were in Spartanburg for the day and was looking for some vegetarian friendly fare. We stopped here as I saw from other reviews that they had veggie dogs (thanks Yelpers!) I had a Chicago veggie dog (deli mustard, sweet pickle relish, banana peppers, tomatoes, celery salt) and my mother had a Carolina dog (mustard, chili, onions, steamed bun). A very unique place. As a fan of Nathan's hit dogs, that's what I usually get. However, their burritos and quesadillas are fabulous.

My wife discovered this hidden gem on Trip Advisor. I was a little leery because I have dietary restrictions & am trying to get to a healthier weight. I was pleasantly surprised that they offered healthier burrito bowls. I had the Grande with steak, jalapeños, & guacamole. It was great! My only concern was that they didn't have another option of a side other than fried chips. And Coke Zero is better than diet IMO. I got the healthy bowl for a reason you know. I've been coming here for years, and while I'm not quite a regular, I frequent enough to know the quality of food Taco Dog is known for serving. On most visits I leave feeling satisfied despite the higher cost, which is comparable for other restaurants in the Hillcrest area. This visit, however, was less than prestine for many reasons. I changed things up and ordered the two Carolina dog combo (chili, mustard and onions). While it was 2:00 pm when I stopped in, there were customers eating in a very quiet atmosphere. Gone was the video and music that normally gives ambiance. The hot dogs were cold. Chili was tasteless. I asked for pickle relish that wound up giving them the only flavor I would enjoy. I waited for fresh fries, which were quickly delivered to my table and after adding salt were good. For nearly $10, I expect hot dogs that are stellar. I don't want to think the owners have gotten complacent with their staff but this was a lackluster dining experience. Add to the fact that the cashier was touching salsa chips with her bare hands, sweeping floors, emptying trash and putting wax paper in trays for the next customers (who hadn't witnessed this) ALL without washing her hands in between. Options are slim on Spartanburg's Eastside but quality shouldn't suffer. read more
