The hot dog Weiner had to be the cheapest thing they could find. If your 7 year old went to a crummy summer camp this is the kind of Weiner they might serve little kids that will eat anything. The chili was nothing special either. The French fries were pretty good and the ambiance of yesteryear was also nice. So I gave one star for the fries and one star for the atmosphere. I went in expecting to get a great hot dog and came away knowing that I had not missed anything over the years by eating hotdogs other places. read more

I went here based on a coupon reviews from people I trust plus I love hotdogs! I went by for lunch and grabbed a hotdog plate with two hotdogs (chili, mustard, onions and coleslaw) with a nice helping of crinkle cut French fries. The dogs were good, maybe a little too soft. The buns and fillings all kind of blended together. Tasty, but I expected more of a bite from the wiener and a meatier flavor from the chili. The surprise were the fries. WOW!!! Piping hot, crunchy on the outside, pillowy soft on the inside. I hardly even eat fries anymore, but these were delicious!!! The service was great and the decor looked like vintage 50s style Americana. I wish I had had more time to enjoy all the signs and memorabilia. I'll be back for more great food. read more

There aren't many places today that makes a great hotdog. That's what Holmes does. The steamed buns, delicious chili and cole slaw is a favorite. The hot dog plate comes with 2 hot dogs (prepared to your order) delicious and generous portion of HOT crinkle fries and cole slaw. The sweet tea is Southernly delicious ( with crunchy ice). There are daily homemade desserts. The decor takes you back with signage and items collected by The Holmes since the restaurant was first opened. This is a locals favorite. Off the beaten path right pass Westgate Mall. Opened on "some" Saturdays. Lunch lines move quickly but expect a line. read more

People i've spoken to rave about this place and I now understand why. The seating and dining area were decent but only for a quick bite to eat and run. For this type of food this makes sense. The food itself was decent but nothing I would be waiting to go back for. The hot dogs and ingredients tasted like basic things you would buy at the grocery store and assemble with no refined taste in mind. Everyone told me the chili was great and it wasn't anything special in my opinion. The big draw here was the people and the service. This was the kind of place that made me feel welcome and like they valued me and my business more than almost all places i've been to. The woman at the counter was not only kind and service minded, she gave honest effort to engage in conversation that was warm and genuine. The small business support would be why I go back. Great place for Hot dogs and crinkle cut fries. Very friendly staff. You always feel like family.

This place makes some good dogs. My favorite thing to get is a regular dog with Chili, Cheese and Onions. They are good 100% beef dogs and the staff is friendly and this place is always hopping! One thing I like about this place is that the Chili they use, is home made chili and not the typical Hormel Chili lots of places use. It gives the hot dog a bit more of an original taste. Downside. The hours are short. They are only open, 10-3pm m-f. They arent open on the weekends. If you get the chance to get a hot dog from here I suggest you do. read more

I grew up eating hot dogs in North Carolina called Carolina dogs. They have slaw, chili, and onions on them. I saw this place and pulled over to try it. They make them the same way. I used to be a once-a-week regular, now I stop by when I'm in town (usually twice a year). Can't go wrong with anything from Holme's, but I'm partial to the chili dog and their crinkle fries. Nifty little lunch spot. I ordered two chili dogs with cheese, French fries and a drink. My bill was 12-13$, which for what I tasted, was a little expensive. The dogs: the chili was normal hotdog chili and the cheese plain cheese spread. Both of which didn't knock my socks off. The buns were steamed which I loved! The hotdog itself was less than what I thought it was going to be. I would think for a hotdog stand (being around this long) they would have perfected the hotdog. To me it was not. The hotdog didn't really have a firmness to it. It was very mushy, to be frank(no pun intended). The flavor was mediocre and seemed to me like they use the cheapest hotdogs they can source. If the hotdog would have been better (firm, maybe grilled) the chili to be a little more flavorful or the cheese to be a little sharper I would have been worth the price. THe fries are the crinkle cut versions, that they deep fry. I love some crinkle cut fries! Could have used another minute in the fryer to make them a little bit more crispier and less falling apart trying to pick them up. The decor was awesome! Makes you feel like family in the restaurant that is stuck back in the days! It was a cool experience. read more

Today was my first time at Holmes, and I was not disappointed. The staff was extremely friendly and polite, the enviroment has that small town classic feel which is very inviting and comfortable. Great food, great atmosphere, great people. My favorite thing to get is a glass bottle of Diet Cheerwine and three hotdogs made all the way with chili onion mustard and coleslaw. I probably stop by once a week or so since they're located not even a mile from where I work. It's always busy but it's worth it. Only downside is the hours of operation. Would prefer to be able to go there for dinner at times but they close around 4 o'clock or so. read more

I got the fried bologna sandwich and it was killer! The line was long and we had to wait 15 minutes but it was worth it.

Not much better than a good hot dog, and Holmes makes some good dogs. First...the sweet tea was quite good, very tasty, not too bland - not too sweet. I got two hot dogs with chili, cheese, and slaw along with crinkle fries and the aforementioned tea. The fries were freshly cooked, really hot, and quite plentiful. They were salt-free though, but that's okay as there are shakers on the tables. The chili was flavourful without being overly spiced (in fact, I would have preferred a bit more seasoning in the chili, but that's me), the cheese was melted nicely, and the slaw was really good...rich, creamy. The hot dog itself might could have had a little more snap. The staff on hand were friendly and helpful. I'll go back again soon. read more

Another great Carolina dog. I usually go for just the chili dog but I am being won over. It was a good quality dog. Never been to New Jersey. Never met a rabbi. The bun was soft and steamed. The chili was full bodied and meaty. It had never been to Texas and seemed to have as much paprika as chili powder. It was the kind of chili your mama made with about twice the meat. I'm sure it was better on Thursday than it was on Monday. They went down easy and it never occurred to me to not eat two. It was the kind of chili dog you could eat with one hand in three bites while riding a bicycle. Place was spic n span clean. Folks were friendly on both sides of the counter. I felt at home. It was the kind of local spot a boy in high school would take a first date. They serve Coca Cola products. The pickles are cold. It's easy to get in and out of from the big road. There are a few restaurants that I ever give five stars to this one took me back to my childhood when all you got was a great hotdog shop some crispy french fries. It reminded me of my family's old restaurant there's a gentleman here older gentleman eat not dogs of been eaten here for over 40 years and that says something. I highly recommend a chili cheese and onion dog asking to fry the dog you'll be surprised as for your fries crispy don't forget to get a Mork Mork stands for mustard onions relish and catch up in the sauerkraut onions and mustard was awesome I fully intend on coming back time after time and bringing friends and all I got to say is don't drive past it. read more
