I asked for xtra crispy fries ( I liked that they were fresh cut) but they weren't crispy at all. The burgers seemed ok not as spectacular as iced heard. Very good burgers, fries and onion rings. But it's also very pricy. Burgers are $9-10, for just the burger. Add fries, tots or onion rings, plus drink, for $5-6 more. Expect to pay over $30 for two meals, which honestly is a bit much for a burger, side and drink. But the burgers are tasty and the onion rings were delicious. The tomatoes on the burgers weren't ripe so they didn't add much. The staff was friendly and food ready within five minutes, made to order and delivered to your table. They have sufficient tables and a long table for standing if you prefer, but I'm sure the dining room can get crowded during peak hours. Dining room is casual, like a diner feel, with moderate noise. Let's start with service. We went on Christmas Eve in the evening and the staff was happy and helpful. That's rare to have that on a late night and especially a holiday. The place was pretty empty (hello Christmas Eve, lol) but festively decorated with a huge nutcracker. Our food was hot and as ordered. I liked the fries a lot more than the burger but I always find those little meat pieces that throw chewing off when I eat ground beef. Nothing against the location. I think their burgers and chicken sandwiches are excellent, but I have gone in for supper several times recently, and the sun is blinding coming in the windows. It was around 7, and I moved from table to table trying to find a place where I wasn't blinded, but there wasn't a place, even with the blinds down. In the process I spilled an entire drink all over myself. The cup was flimsy and collapsed in my hand. Finally I had them put my food in a bag and took it home. When I asked them why they didn't have better blinds, an employee said the owner didn't want the blinds down because he thinks the restaurant looks closed. Well , Mr owner, I won't be coming back in the evening, and I will have to decide whether I want to come back to a restaurant where an owner puts profit above his customers and employees. I have to question who owns this restaurant. I don't blame the employees. They tried to help, but the blinds are white and the sun shines right through. read more

Charming dinner in the center of Spartanburg that serves up a wonderful burger amongst other great things. I found their Remoulade Hamburger absolutely wonderful with two generous beef Pattie's, pepper jack cheese and bacon to be a great blend as well as a delicious hamburger, I ordered onion rings on the side. My girlfriend built her own burger. The two of us absolutely loved our hamburgers and my inspired New Orleans type Hamburger. The cute little gal was friendly and eager to assist us in taking our order. It's been one of my favorite places thus far while visiting South Carolina. Not your normal fast food joint! I moved to South Carolina from the Northeast and I often will eat at a restaurant probably 2-3 times a week. I discovered Wayback Burgers a couple of months ago. I have been back five times since arriving to SC in late March, 2024 (that's about 3.5 months ago)...there are many dining places in Spartanburg, SC, but I really like this place. The staff have always been great! One time I brought three friends here... they have been in SC for a few years and had never been. They liked it too! I had normally ordered from the menu as far as their burgers go. The ones I had in the past were great! But today I did a build my own. I ordered a grilled mushroom, onion, with Swiss cheese and two patties. I love that combination. They cooked everything fresh. I ordered large fries, and a soft drink, too. The fries are hand cut and fresh and great too. They don't seem to salt the food (maybe they do) so that's great because some burger places over salt it. Once I placed my order at the counter, I poured my drink then took a seat. My meal was brought to me (as it always is) by a friendly staff member. I love the grilled mushroom & onion double swiss cheeseburger I created, and when I go back next time, I'm going to order it again! The restaurant is super clean, tables are wiped down almost immediately when a party leaves. Same cleanliness in the restrooms, too! One thing I really like is the American flag and a sculpture of a soldier in the restaurant. As an American who's also a veteran, it's just my style! Wow! Last night was a typical Friday night of going out to eat. Nobody could decide where to go. First, we were going to go to Blue Bay Seafood but fortunately for us they were closed for a week. So we circle back to Wayback burgers and glad we did. The hamburgers were awesome. The chicken BLTs are awesome and to top it off the staff is wonderful. I thought I had ordered french fries with my meal but it turns out I didn't when I mentioned it to the staff person we agreed that I hadn't. I made a little trek down to Spartanburg around lunchtime, so decided to try out someplace new to me. I chose Wayback Burgers. Sad to say, it was very disappointing, especially considering the cost of the burgers. Which is average for this type of place, but in other places I've been I got what I ordered on my burger. Here--I got a burger with the things I specified I didn't want. I ordered the classic which is 2 patties with cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion, ketchup & mustard. Then you can customize it, so I did. I'm not a "tomato on my burger" gal, I prefer a big chunk of lettuce. (Don't get me wrong, I'll be one of first to slap some Dukes on a couple of slices of white bread and throw on some thick slices of homegrown tomatoes. But I digress....) I asked for lettuce, pickles, grilled onions, mushrooms. I added chili for $1.00. I got tomato, pickles, ketchup and thankfully they did include the cheese. So, that's like a 0 star, in my opinion, especially since I paid extra for chili and it wasn't on the burger. On to the fries. Sorry guys, they were very disappointing, too. They tasted like they were fried in grease that just needed changing. Not horrible, but definitely not fresh. The saddest thing about the fries is the grainy consistency inside them. I thought they were supposed to be freshly cut and maybe it's just the type of potato they use, but they weren't good enough to eat. I hate throwing food out, but you can only choke down so much before giving up. But is there a bright spot? Yes! The onion rings were magically awesome!!! I would go back just to order onion rings! I asked for the Buffalo blue sauce for them and that's excellent, too.. Since the main item was the burger so I can't give a high score. The cashier was very helpful and pleasant, he also put in my order correctly. The person delivering my package to me was very nice and happy, too. I've always driven by this place without know how amazing there food is. On the exterior there's not much to see but when you walk in this amazing atmosphere kinda just hits you. I got a classic cheeseburger my first time there but I'll definitely be coming back to try the rest of their delicious menu. My family in Spartanburg has said good things to say about Wayback Burger and I saw that they at least had a veggie burger (not vegan) so I settled for it. My dad got a veggie burger as well and my wife and mom got their various beef burgers. I really enjoyed the french fries and got the largest one they offer. The veggie burger (Garden-burger patty) was flavorful and we enjoyed our dining experience here. They should really offer a Beyond Burger or another vegan patty though! read more
