While exploring the beautiful Bartonville area with winding roads, large estates and plenty of…read moresmall farm charm, we stopped at the Bartonville Store for lunch. This quaint spot has been standing for more than 140 years and now serves as a restaurant and live music venue on the weekends. The bar is dark, woody, and full of character and gives off the kind of vibe that makes you want to come back for an evening of music and drinks. We chose to sit in the bright front room with its abundance of windows and natural light. We started with the deviled eggs topped with bacon jam for an appetizer. Those we gobbled fast. I ordered the Wagyu House Burger with whipped jalapeño, goat cheese, and bacon jam served with tots. The burger is hardy cook cooked well and the goat cheese was a standout. My date had the chicken fried steak and after stealing a few bites I can confidently say that's what I'll be ordering next time. That was absolutely delicious. The service was attentive and friendly, making an already enjoyable meal even better. We left full happy and completely charmed by both the restaurant and the surrounding area.

The food arrived on a plate instead of as a bowl, which threw me off a bit since I was expecting it to be served the way it's described. The hash browns were the highlight -- good portion and tasty. The sausage patty, though, was a little tough and had an odd texture, and it was just a single small patty. The avocado portion was also pretty tiny. I also tried a side of sausage gravy, but it wasn't the classic country-style gravy I was expecting. It was thinner, more heavily spiced, and had big sausage chunks instead of a crumble. It wasn't a bad meal overall, and I'd still come back -- I'd just try something different next time, maybe the steak and eggs.

I already loved Marty B's for the incredible food and coffee, but today's experience reminded me…read morewhy I'll keep coming back. I stopped by this afternoon and ordered several food items, a coffee, and one of their amazing candles. At the drive-thru, they handed me my food and let me know they'd bring the candle out separately. When I got home, I realized they had accidentally given me two candles, one was tucked inside my food bag and another had been brought out separately. I called to let them know because I wanted to pay for the extra candle (I absolutely love their candles and wanted to keep it!). The sweet lady I spoke with on the phone was incredibly kind and told me not to worry about it, they wanted me to enjoy the second candle on them. That level of customer service is so rare these days. Everyone was friendly, appreciative, and genuinely cared about making the experience a great one. Between the delicious food, fantastic coffee, and outstanding customer service, Marty B's continues to be one of my favorite places. And if you haven't tried their candles yet, you're missing out! I picked up their new Cherry Almond Buttercream scent, and it smells absolutely incredible. Highly recommend!

I also liked the setup of the area with Marty's To-Go and Marty's Ice Cream right next door, it makes it feel like there's a lot going on around you. The coffee shop itself also has a bar, food options, and plenty of outdoor seating. The outdoor space with the fireplace looked so cozy, and I can already imagine how nice it would be there in winter with hot chocolate. I was already full, so I only stopped in for coffee this time, but definitely want to come back and try more. I got the iced lavender oat latte and really liked it. It was creamy, not too sweet, and the lavender flavor was subtle but still came through nicely. Really balanced and easy to drink. I also tried an off-menu salted caramel mocha, and that one was a miss for me. It was way too sweet, didn't really taste like salted caramel mocha, and wasn't creamy at all. It honestly gave me a headache after. Overall, 5 stars for the space, 3 for the lavender oat latte, and 0 for the salted caramel mocha.
