The ambiance is simply perfect for a cozy study session or coffee date with a friend! We ordered two affogatos and had our choice of gelato flavors. I did the hazelnut and was pleasantly surprised by the portion size! It came deconstructed which was perfect: I was able to enjoy the gelato and add the espresso when I had eaten most of it, leaving me with a really delicious combo of hazelnut and espresso! The owner is hilarious and always provides fantastic service. The pastries are delicious and the drinks are on point (the hot spicy chai tastes like Christmas in a cup). Fair warning that gelato isn't served until midday (11 ish). Definitely worth the wait because the flavors slap, too. On the way home after dinner, I decided to stop here for ice cream for dessert. Because the venue is trying to be both a coffee shop and ice cream parlor, there are individual leather-like chairs, as well as, tables and a couple communal dining areas by the two windows. I mention all of this due to the awkwardness of choosing a seat. The leather-like chairs are more appropriate for drinking coffee or shake than eating gelato. The evening was too sunny and hot and the chairs too tall to sit by the window, so I took up a corner chair at the long table. While enjoying the combination of Oreo and Heaven gelato, a group of six had chosen to sit by one of the windows. Soon after, a smaller group chose to sit by the chairs behind me. Epic Gelato (or as locals call it, Epic) has been in lakeside since when I moved here at least in 2014, and for good reason. The Service is always fast and efficient, and the people working are very friendly. Prices are decent, but considering the location they are reasonable. The biggest part of Epic is its atmosphere. During the school year, I regularly went to Epic for tutoring, as its comfortable atmosphere and plenty of varying seating gives it charm. They have a few history games and in general is a nice place to go to. You don't even have to buy anything or feel out of place walking in! (Looking at you Starbucks). Furthermore, the gelato is exceptionally good, and they have a good coffee setup. If you don't know where to go to meet up with someone, want to beat the heat or get warm, or need someplace to study for a bit, Epic is an exceptional option that I highly recommend. read more

I will say the gelato was very delicious and they had many flavors to choose from. They look to have many fresh pastries but I didn't try any. Although I did try the Brooklyn shake. Which toted organic peanut butter but what I got was Jif which wasn't. I guess it could be loosely based on a true story because the peanuts are organic but the rest of the ingredients in the peanut butter are not. My dad and I, practically tried all of the gelato flavors before we decided on one. LOL The server behind the counter was patient, kind, and allowed us to try multiple flavors. Omg this place is so good. The service was so nice and helpful and gave us a bunch of samples. The gelato is DELICIOUS and the kids size is perfect. It cost about $5.50 which isn't too bad. Nice variety of seating, but the bar seating around the window is my personal fave. I'm sure some would be perfectly fine sitting in bar-height chairs--it definitely adds seating. There's a nice long table that works for large parties of 8-10 or works as a community table as well... sit with a stranger. :) And there's a small couch in back, but we never get lucky enough to snag it. I love the loose-leaf tea options - they have over a dozen to choose from. You can also specify that you want the fine filter so you don't get floaties in your tea. Coffee is good--I've only had one but was pleased. A friend ordered the affogatto, and I tried it... YUM!!! Gelato is amazing, and they let you taste test. The friendly staff let us try a bunch of flavors before we made our decision and they were not annoyed at all! The ambience is super cute and like your typical cute artsy coffee shop! Definitely home made and doesn't have a fake sugar taste. You can definitely tell these are made with quality ingredients! Boyfriend got a regular cup (up to 3 flavors) with pistachio, banana split, and cookie dough! The pistachio was not sweet, more of a salty, true pistachio taste. Super milky and delicious! The cookie dough was true to cookie dough, no chocolate chips (just the way we like it)! Banana split taste EXACTLY like a banana split ; the gelato even had real maraschino cherries! I got a kid cup (up to 2 flavors) with almond and peaches and cream. OH MY GOODNESS! the peaches and cream gelato.. 10/10 DELICIOUS! real peach bits inside and super creamy. First off, the guys here are super friendly and basically were excited for us to try as many flavors possible, lol.
