While Lexington has plenty of places to get ice cream, the frozen custard style, a fresh, semi-soft variety heavy on egg, is a newcomer. This was not my first Andy's, however, as I'd tried them in Shreveport, LA. They delivered much the same experience here. The shop is on a thoroughfare and has a drive-through window and parking. There doesn't appear to be indoor seating (though they do offer a restroom for customers); a few benches are placed outside. The banana split I tried was a melty mess. The custard is plain vanilla, but when combined judiciously with the fruit and peanuts, it makes for a satisfying experience. They also have many options for blending a thick shake (called a concrete) with various flavorings, as well as just getting your custard in a cup or a cone. This is not the kind of place to go for anyone who is trying to avoid dairy, egg, or calories (they do post calorie counts, to their credit). But for those who want to indulge, this is probably what you're looking for.

I picked up a brownie sundae with pecans on it. This will be my second time ordering a dessert from this place, and it never disappoints--tasty desserts after a savory meal. This place is known for its drive-thru or walk-up services. There are plenty of parking spots after you pick up your dessert if you want to hang out and enjoy them before starting your drive again. Safety first!

Wanted a sweet treat while in Lexington and I absolutely fell in love with Andy's Best concrete I've had in a long time!

Love this easy to get to location on Broadway and straight forward ordering process. I got a small Butter Pecan concrete (a vanilla custard blended with butterscotch and pecans) and it was the perfect size and perfect sweetness. I could probably have gotten a little more butterscotch but overall enjoyed it and will return. Staff was super friendly and worked fast.

I received a complimentary coupon for one small one topping concrete custard. I added cherries. The custard was smooth and creamy. This location and drive-thru were ideal and brightly lit.

I grew up in Arkansas and am familiar with Andy's since we have a few locations there. I haven't been in years and forgot how delicious this custard is! My 3 friends who went with me had never been to Andy's and were blown away at how good everything was. We came on a Monday night and didn't have to wait at all in the drive thru line. We asked for 2 waters with our ice cream and the kind server working the window actually brought out 4 waters so everyone in our car had one. I got a build-your-own concrete with cookie dough and hot fudge, it was so good! I got a size small which was plenty. The custard is the perfect consistency and much creamier than typical ice cream. They have tons of options on the menu that all sound delicious! I wish I lived closer to an Andy's as I'm assuming I would be a frequent customer and want to keep trying more menu items!

I am obsessed!!! I was in Lexington for a business and had the pleasure of trying this place for a few times and loved it so much each time. I ordered take out and I am not sure if they have seating space inside. The staff were all super friendly and helpful and assisted me in deciding what to order each time. Highly recommend their s'mores flavor! My only minor complaint would be that the custard was less frozen and sometimes melted but still the taste was SO amazing! P. S. Definitely one of my dessert choices to have before I die!

Completing the first week of school means a celebratory Andy's run! The Andy's Frozen Custard franchise recently opened a location here in Lexington, Ky. I was very impressed with the list of custard combinations on their large menu. You can even customize your concrete to your craving by adding or eliminating a topping to your order. I was glad to see they were fully staffed so we were able to order and get out cravings right away! I definitely will be back to try more on their creative menu! Pictured are a few of their signature concretes! * BootDaddy Concrete (right hand): Vanilla frozen custard blended with oreo cremé and caramel and hot fudge. * Snowmonster Concrete (far left): Vanilla frozen custard blended with strawberries and melted chocolate chips (added brownie) * James Brownie Funky Jackhammer (front left): Chocolate custard with brownies and filled with hot fudge

I'm usually a hard ice cream gal, but I also love mix-ins and toppings. Andy's is an awesome late night ice cream stop and has everything you could want in a custard. Their signature concretes are awesome. The only weird thing was that my sisters and I all ordered small concretes, some signature, some create your own, but the sizes differed. Not sure what's up with that. But a small size is plenty! It does get really melty on a hot day, like soup once you get to the bottom, but still so delicious. Service is quick and friendly. Looking forward to making another stop

This is where heaven Resides! I had the chocoo rockoo and it was like cold chocolate butter with almonds. I kept hearing someone moaning loudly, I looked around and discovered the moaning was coming from my WIFE! She was CRUSHING a crunchy thing with waffles cone pieces! It was so loud I thought a window was getting blown out. I will fly from LA again for this one place!

This is something else it wasn't double malt vanilla with oreo.

Very expensive. Had a party melt from nearby fast food and then came here for a sledgehammer which cost the same amount. Felt like a ripoff

Not all bars or bartenders do this, especially on busy nights, and my experience is not necessarily common. On to the review. Some evenings are just dinner and drinks. Some are experiences. Thanks to Tony, Grandam was an experience. Had a 5:30 Monday reservation at Grandam, which was easy to snag on Opentable. Had time to wait before my reservation, so I sat at the bar and ordered Rosemary Sol Margarita (blanco tequila, rosemary agave, apricot liqueur, tajin). The drink wasn't bad, but despite the bartender's attempts at making the recipe less sweet, it was still pretty cloying. That's when the bartender introduced himself as Tony and we began to discuss margaritas and our personal tastes, which led to Tony making me his own personal brand of margarita, which was much more palatable. Then it was time for my reservation and I bid Tony adieu until later (more on the bar to come). The restaurant, decorated in moody velvets and leathers, was empty, but that could have been due to the snowy weather. My server was wonderful and prompt, and took pride in explaining how Grandam is part of a farm collective that prioritizes local farmers and vendors, though she did explain their oysters were from Chesapeake Bay (of course). While the appetizer menu contained pork belly, corvina dishes, oysters, Jamaican crawfish, yuca fritters, and deviled eggs, I opted for the wood fired mushrooms. This dish, made with foraged mushrooms, salsa mocha, goat cheese spread, and cornbread was earthy and complex. Loved the goat cheese's added creaminess. I am not a cornbread fan, but this cornbread was light and tasted as cornbread should. Once other tables started arriving, several remarked how much they enjoyed it. I almost considered the tri-tip, made with bourbon braised tri-tip, 12 year white cheddar, grits, and mustard chimichurri, but the server told me it's a larger dish meant for sharing and I didn't want to ruin my main dish. For my entree I couldn't pass up the venison Wellington, deer meat wrapped in a flaky puff pastry, accompanied by pumpkin miso Demi glaze, country ham, foraged mushrooms, butternut squash, broccolini and fennel salad, and a tart cherry vinaigrette. The venison was moist and fall apart tender, medium to rare, and the dish came together like a symphony. And even though it might be a little trashy, even in the nicest restaurants I order their fries. These fries were crisp and hot and well seasoned. Grandam has signature entrees that are always available. The Wellington changes depending on which meat is seasonal. Pan seared trout, fried chicken, and a filet are also on the old and faithful list. The seasonal menu included another corvina dish (a mild white fish), creole lamb curry, clams asada and corn pasta, more steak, and cabbage and chana. The dessert menu offered pecans and coconut, miso chess pie, a chocolate torte, ice cream, and nightcap sweet drinks. I was so full I had to pass. Of note, the chef of Grandam is Ecuadorean, so expect that to influence most, if not all, of the food (in a fantastic way). Once I finished my meal, it was back to the bar, which is part of Grandam as well as the Manchester Hotel Lobby, where Tony awaited. Tony used to be the manager of the bar before leaving for other opportunities, and told me he still worked Mondays to "fill his cup." He and I bonded over the fact that I am adventurous and like to let bartenders have their way with the spirits. I don't order off the menu if I don't have to. First I had a cocktail made of my favorite spirit, gin-- the last word, a prohibition cocktail made with gin, green chartreuse, maraschino, and fresh lime juice. Simple, refreshing. Then Tony introduced me to a vodka I've never seen before called Blacklion, made with a rare type of sheep's milk. While I know it sounds crazy, and I'm not even a vodka person, it was incredibly smooth. He made me a reverse vesper martini, a lighter, aperitif style drink. It was my favorite drink of the night probably, and I'm not even a martini person. We finished the night with what he called the best American whiskey in the world, stating, "If I could draw whiskey as a picture, this is what it would look like." It's not often bartenders wax poetic. This was not cheap, and he warned me, but I had ended up sitting next to a guy who had helped design several of the whiskey labels at the bar, and that's what he was having, so with all that, how could I say no? That had to be the last drink of the night because it was very deep and smoky and a knockout. Tony agreed that it was a nightcap type of beverage and not much could follow it. Tony has a true passion. This whole evening was a vibe. I can't wait to go back again. But if you want the Tony experience, you have to go on a Monday! I can't be held responsible for any other day.
