I had the pleasure of a sneak peek of Spotz Gelato before they open and so, so delighted that I did! As far as I know, there is only one other place to get ice cream in Georgetown (along with Culvers, Dairy Queen), so Spotz is a much-needed and welcome addition to the downtown area. And it's not just ice cream, it's gelato! Spotz loves spots. The interior has pink walls covered in spots, with ceiling lights that look like colored balls. There is a long counter with several gelato/sorbet flavors and cookies to choose from, and church pews along the opposite wall as seating. Very unique! I sampled mint chocolate chip, rainbow, and strawberry sorbet before choosing the latter as my treat. My husband choose the rainbow (vanilla with m&ms) and my son choose the orangecicle. Serving sizes are very generous! Also, the owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. Such a happy vibe from this place. I LOVED the strawberry sorbet!! It wasn't fake -- you can taste the real fruit inside. It was perfect. My son wanted to try my sorbet, loved it, and basically stole it from me. He didn't want his orangecicle anymore. I tried my son's orangecicle and realized why he didn't want it: it tasted different than expected, and I didn't like it. Regardless, having one flavor that I don't like doesn't change my opinion of Spotz. I think I'll come back tomorrow for more sorbet. Or maybe the banana pudding gelato. Or the vanilla bean? Hmm.

    Cutest ice cream shop ever!!

Originally, Spotz Gelato was in a food truck; and the owners (Beth & Philip) decided to take a leap of faith and build a restaurant in Versailles and in Georgetown. This was my very first time in their ice cream (gelato) parlor. The owners make all of their Gelato & Sorbet locally in Scott County on their farm. I'm always very hesitant in going to new ice cream shops because of cross contamination issues and having eggs in their ice creams. After speaking with the owners, Beth & Philip, found out that one gelato does have eggs in it but all the rest are safe (possibly the bananas and cream with vanilla wafers sorbet could have eggs in it....and I'm allergic to bananas anyhow, so I stayed away from that one). What sets them apart from other shops: each gelato or sorbet, had their own ice cream scooper. I've never had gelato and this was one of my best experiences that I've ever had in a long time. The servers behind the counter were so nice and helpful. My husband and I will definitely be back for sure!!

I had an opportunity to hop up to Georgetown for a sneak peak into this sweet spot! It is great! Owner was as sweet as the treats, giving me information on how the flavors were developed and how they love this space. Both dairy and non dairy options all very flavor forward and good. The "berry" versions are not overly sweet and stay very true to the fruit. The Cookies and Cream was perfect with chunks of cookie in the gelato. Hop off I 75 and try this if you need a break in your road trip!

Today is opening day for this Georgetown location. I usually don't review a place after only a soft opening, but Spotz and I go way back. Throwing it way back in the early days of the Crave Festival, that's where I first found them. I'd visit twice each year during their Crave visit. That spotted, bright pink, renovated camper was the cutest set up at Crave each year. After Crave, I followed them on Instagram. When they moved to Nicaragua to open a brick and mortar there, I was afraid that they'd made their Kentucky exit. Nope! Thank the heavens above, they not only opened this location, but they also recently opened a Versailles location. The menu is beyond their homemade gelato. I. Can. Not. Wait to try everything. For now, I might have a hard time straying from the best version of banana pudding that I've ever had... in gelato form. If you've not tried gelato... do! It's similar to ice cream, but better.

This is a cute little place on Main street that serves "gelato". I'm hard pressed to call it anything but ice cream. I've eaten enough gelato in Italy to know that what passes for it here does not come close. But, Spotz, if you're in Georgetown, is a cold, creamy treat on a hot day.

We were lucky enough to be invited to the soft open of Spotz Gelato. This was not our first time enjoying Spotz. We have been lucky enough to have tried it at the Crave Food Festival and at our city's Summer Concert Series. Super excited seeing the owners opened a physical location. We were thrilled to see their theme from their cute polka dotted ice cream trucks into their new place. Bright pink with polka dots all over the walls. Amazing twine globes used as pendulum lighting. Beth and Phillip have created a fun, bright place in Georgetown. Speaking of... all of their gelato is created at their farm in Scott County! My husband tried their Affogato. He's a coffee fan! It's a scoop of gelato in a cup of coffee. Yes, you may spy a Keriug on the counter. In the spirit of staying green, they grind coffee from Twin Engine Coffee & place it in a reusable k-cup pod. He loved the coffee! I tried the peanut butter. It was rich and creamy just like granny's peanut butter candy at Christmas. In the past, we have always had the Banana pudding gelato. I cannot write about Spotz without mentioning how much we like that flavor! If you love ice cream, please give gelato a try. Creamier, richer, and carries more flavor! (P.S. Phillip was the Crave Festival Angel who rescued me with a drink a few years ago when spicy Indian Food was making my throat close. We have often wondered if we'd ever find that man again!)

This is one of our favorite go to places when we are in the downtown Georgetown area. Delicious!!!

Little hometown hidden gem. This place makes normal flavors exceptional flavors. Don't let "gelato" deter you - it is amazing 'ice cream'.

I'd like to reiterate that the banana pudding flavor is especially delicious. My husband enjoyed the mint chocolate chip flavor as well.

If you're looking for a dessert option, this is a great place. Highlights - lots of chocolate treats and fancy desserts. We tried the Oreo Raspberry Cake. It was super moist, decadent, and heavy. Great cake slice, we really enjoyed it. The annoying part was that I ordered bourbon balls and I instead got some sort of vanilla truffle. I'm not a local but I'm pretty sure I didn't get bourbon balls. Didn't taste anything like bourbon at all. I was very disappointed since that is what I initially came in for and we didn't realize the mistake until much further in the day. The cake slice saves the review from being any lower but paying $12 for something I didn't want is annoying and ruins the experience somewhat. That is why quality counts from beginning to end. I still recommend trying this place out but make sure you check what you order so that you get the right thing.

After leaving yet another distillery, the ladies in our group wanted to head to Georgetown for some shopping. But before the shopping could begin, we needed lunch. We had stopped at Fava's a few weeks earlier with another group of friends for breakfast, and it was excellent. With that great experience in mind, we decided to try Fava's again, this time for lunch. The décor is classic Old Town Kentucky--exactly the kind of place that brings back childhood memories of small-town restaurants. Charming, comfortable, and familiar. We seated ourselves and looked over the menu. I went with the chili cheese hot dog with fries. My wife and one of our friends chose the open-faced Reuben, and the last member of our group ordered the club sandwich. Every dish was excellent. The club sandwich was so large it required a to-go box. Before leaving, everyone except me ordered pie to go-- Fava's pies are legendary, at least to my wife and me. I skipped dessert this time and immediately regretted missing their ice cream options. We dropped the pies off in the car (it was cold enough outside to keep them safe), and then the ladies headed off to explore the shops of Georgetown. And I cannot leave out the wait staff, very attentive and friendly . This was my second visit to Fava's, and both times have been outstanding. I'm already looking forward to our next "shopping trip" to Georgetown so I can enjoy their food again--and this time, I won't miss out on the ice cream.
