Used the last bit of my available funds to try and get myself a model from a place called Andy's Hobby Headquarters in Glendale, AZ, from their online store. I was excited, it was a kit I had been hunting for quite some time, and I thought I would finally have one in my collection. I paid for shipping, and it was sent USPS Ground Advantage, with insurance. USPS decided to deliver it to the wrong address, and to absolutely no one's surprise, it vanished. USPS informed me that the shipper has to initiate a claim, it is not something I can do, and they gave me a letter admitting the mistake and that the package is now lost. I relayed this to Andy'sHHQ, and they didn't respond. In fact, due to their sluggish response to the situation, they are now sold out of that model, so even if refunded, I can't get it any more. I reached out to Andy'sHHQ again today, only to be met with an excuse about how they aren't responsible, they shipped it, so if it is lost I have to deal with the USPS. But the USPS already told me I had to deal with the shipper. This "hobby shop" clearly isn't trustworthy in any way, and that angers me because I have sent a few people their way after I had ordered a couple of times and had no issue, so I thought they could be trusted. Now I look bad if any of those people don't get what they ordered and paid for. It is truly a sad world we live in where any retail company feels like it is perfectly acceptable to ignore the actual customer just as long as they say they have no responsibility once anything ordered online leaves their store. read more

If you like scale models, this is the place to checkout. This store has the largest selection of model that I have seen. The guy at the counter was very knowledgeable and didn't seem to mind answering all my questions. There were some speciality items there, but most everything was reasonably priced. read more

I live in Grass Valley, CA , so it's over 800 miles to drive to Andy's. I try and do this once a year. Totally worth it. If you are into military models, or model cars this is a must-visit hobby shop. Andy stocks the latest and greatest kits, and is now developing his own line of 1/16 scale armor. He also has purchased large collections of models, so you may find a rare or even collectible model when stopping by. He also has a wonderful selection of model supplies, including tools, paint and weathering supplies. Plus Andy is one of the friendliest hobby shop owners you will ever meet. He puts many helpful videos on YouTube, where you can see previews of kits, and complete builds. Because of the distance I have to travel to see the shop in person, most of the year I have to settle for his mail order service, which is also highly professional. Just stopped by Andy's Hobby Headquarters, and was highly impressed with his stock of not only high quality models but his superb supply of paints glues and hobby tools, I've been a customer of Hobby Bench for a number of years but found Andy's will definitely be my new go to suppler for my modeling needs. If you are into scale modeling - Aircraft \ Armor \ Ship \ Figures \ Sci-Fi - then you owe it to yourself to check out Andy's store - if it is out there, he might carry it, or be able to custom order it for you. When you walk in, there will be three things you will need to watch out for. 1) Andy - He's a model maker's nightmare. He is very nice, helpful and friendly. Maybe too much so! Yes, a truly evil man. 2) Andy's creations - namely the armor. Holy cow! This guy LOVES his craft, and it shows when you see the models he assembled and weathered to perfection. When you look at his kits, you know this guy knows what he is talking about. 3) The store is packed with sooooo many kits - all nicely organized - you have to fight hard to hold back the drool. Sure he carries the run-of-the-mill kits, but he also carries other Brands that mega-sites carry - at a very reasonable price. Once you are done bankrupting yourself with the kits, Andy also carries a wide range of paints and consumables - you name it, he's got it. My only advice for you is to bring your spouse - or someone with a LOT of willpower - so they can hold your wallet and keep you in line. I barely survived my last trip to his store, and it doesn't help that he has this pesky website too: www.andyshhq.com - which carries a wide variety of goodies in his store (BTW, he also appears to have minions working 24x7 at his store, because his orders come to my door within 2 days). So, let's sum this up. Andy is a nice guy who uses his charm, great customer service who runs a store with a killer selection at a good price to lure unsuspecting model enthusiasts so they can get the good stuff they really crave - like the witch uses her candy house to entrap Hansel and Gretel. He is very knowledgeable and is very willing to answer questions. Very large stock of all types of kits genre and scales. I've built models on and off over 45 years and I've never seen a better place to go for the model builder ( other places have arts and crafts,rockets and RC stuff ,with very little space for models). Went into their store for a German WWII model of a tank for my brother as a Christmas present. When I walked in was not greeted or asked if I needed anything. On my own found the isle with tank and other vehicle models but was overwhelmed with the selection. Person behind the counter was busy ratchet jawing with two other people not about a purchase or anything. Made eye contact with the employee multiple times but not once was ever asked if I needed help (which I did). Will say this, they have a great selection (which is why I'm giving 2 stars) but absolute crap customer service. Will not go back... read more

If you're the kind of person who desires the wares peddled at a place like this, it's one of the best places in the west valley to shop. This one focuses mostly on plamo, so you're not going to find any super expensive RC airplanes or cars, but their selection is pretty nice. Anime robot model kits are hard to find in general, and they seem to make an effort to get them in stock when the distributors aren't being crap. But if you want cars, planes, or tanks this is it. Also, a pretty good selection of paints and painting supplies if you're really trying to descend into this money pit. I see myself being a customer for as long as I'm geographically near this shop. read more

I'm a US Army veteran and a tanker I've been building model since I was a small child I've been to hobby stores in Germany Texas Colorado Nebraska California Arizona but I have to say that this is the best hobby store I've seen was one of the nicest people running the store he's got good prices he's got a good selection he's got a very good YouTube channel that anybody can learn something from and his format on that channel is better than any other that I watched I can't stand to click on a YouTube video and see somebody build a model in a flash card Style no talking some music playing doesn't explain anything so Andy's hobby headquarters and YouTube channel is my place to visit and your store read more

My husband loves building models and he absolutely loves coming to Andy's. He has been coming here for several years now even before the successful YouTube channel. We love that this place has grown because Andy has great customer service and he really takes care of his customers. If you ask him to put an item on hold for you he will and he has great insight being a modeler himself he has a lot of hands on experience with all of the items he sells. This is a great place to get your kids interested in modeling as well since he carries a lot of starter kits. read more

One of the best shops in the valley for scale plastic model supplies. This is one of my favorite shops. They have an excellent select of scale model kits and supplies. The owner is extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Prices are good and the inventory is very dynamic -- there is *always* a brand new product or kit in stock every time I visit. My only complaint is that I almost always spend more than what I wanted to when I go here! read more

Well I will start off by saying that I am an abid armor model builder from Florida and I do lots of business with on line retailers.. Most have been ok and a few have been great. I have been watching Andy's videos on you tube for several years and really enjoyed them.. I never bought anything with him cause I either what i wanted was out of stock or his shipping were too high.. Well I recently gave his company a shot and bought a takom STug 2n1 kit.. Will say his price was very reasonable and I still thought their shipping was high but it was a kit I have been trying to get for sometime and no one had it in stock, but Andy did. The customer service was outstanding and the shipping was SUPER fast I received the item in 3 days from the day it was ordered. WHAT?! Number 13 on Yelp? Andy's should easily be in the Top 5, my personal favorite. I have been to every shop in this valley numerous times. Nobody has the interest in their shop like Andy Klein. Friendly, knowledgeable and always happy to help with advice, tips or whatever you need. This is THE modeler's shop in the metro Phoenix area...no having to go through railroad, RC, dollhouses, paper crafts etc. Pretty much models, books, and modeling supplies of all sorts. If you are a scale modeler, there is something here for you. There is nothing quite like it in the Phoenix metro area. The proprietor is friendly and knowledgable.
