They suggested what seems like normal maintenance, cleaning and changing the filter. They also charged an additional fee for finding them on Thumbtack. After this work was done, the unit broke down just short of two months later. When I called Proteks to take a look, they did fit me in their schedule for the next day. They suggested another expensive but piecemeal repair and because I wanted a second opinion, I asked them to hold off. They charged a higher service fee ($99) although they claimed they wouldn't charge the next time. The second (and third) opinion I received suggested that the repair would not solve the problem and would only be temporary. I called Proteks for an explanation, but they never called back. I ended up going with another company that will actually do the work to correct all the issues, which Proteks never offered. As a woman dealing with these issues, I feel taken advantage of because I'm relying on experts to assess the problem and come up with a solution, not a bandaid. I would not recommend.

Came and did a full diagnostic and concluded a busted fan motor. Called his suppliers for a replacement part with reasonable pricing. Drove a few hours to pick up the part and returned to finish up. Went above and beyond, making sure it's done right; tied up loose wires, taped up dangling insulation and cleaned up when done. Also installed a c-wire to power my nest. I now understand the 5 star reviews on Thumbtack. You won't be disappointed.

I wish I could give 0 stars…read more I wanted a whole home humidifier installed in my apartment. Jim's son came next day and installed it back in October 2018. It never performed the way it should have, and Jim would not come take a look at it, only trouble shoot over the phone, and tell me Im doing it wrong. After calling the manufacturer, I was told the problem was that it was hooked up to the cold water line, when it needs to be on the hot water line. Took 3 months of back and forth and ignoring my calls for Jim to finally come and switch the line over at the end of January 2019. Almost immediately after entering my home to make the repair, Jim insulted me, saying I don't know anything about these units, and this is the first one in the thousands that he's installed that didn't work properly. He then over tightened the self piercing saddle valve (which I have since learned are against code in the state of New Jersey), causing it to leak. He became confrontational and blamed me for this leak. He then put some tape and puddy on the leak and got it to stop long enough for him to tell me I was all set and left. Sure enough 2 days later, I came home to puddles of water leaking from my HVAC closet. Jim wouldn't return my phone calls and I had to call in an emergency plumber to fix the situation. They told me that self piercing saddle valves are against code in NJ and are a cheap short cut from doing it right and prone to leaking. I paid over $700 to fix this and install the proper shut off valve, and remove the dead saddle valve on the cold water line. Also after installing this humidifier, my furnace now "short cycles", because its not getting enough air to the furnace as air is being borrowed for the humidifier. Ive called a real company to handle this problem. Overall Jim does not know which humidifier to install based on my HVAC needs. He cuts corner with parts that are against code and has created more problems that he solves. My advice call someone else, or at the very least dont let him put a self piercing saddle valve in your house.

My wife and I purchased a home built in 1982 with an AC unit built with the house. Last Summer…read more(2013) our A/C went out blowing only hot air. I called another A/C company that charged us $750 to essentially ad freon and I believe vacuum out our coil. That lasted until June this year when the same problem occurred. I called the same company who did the same work but charged $450 this time for just the freon, yet one week later our house was blowing only hot air again. That was an expensive week of A/C. I called them up in frustration. They said I have a leak a coil somewhere and that the only thing they can do is put more freon in and hope it lasts, or replace my entire unit for $8,000 considering the age of the unit. In a panic we needed to get second opinions and we called Victor's Air Conditioning. Victor's A/C came and checked out everything. They determined that I really don't need to replace the entire unit because my condenser unit wasn't as old as the house and has at least 5-7 good years left in it. (The other company never bothered to check the age of the condenser unit, and I never thought to consider that.) They determined the leak was caused by the evaporator coil inside the furnace. They replaced the evaporator coil for almost 1/7th the cost of replacing everything. They worked right around my schedule and were very professional. We actually had a few minor adjustments that needed to be done after the fact because our expansion valve was loose, but the they came right out every time and made sure we were comfortable in no time. I think in an industry where you as the homeowner are not the experts, it is really easy to be taken advantage of. I write this review in gratitude of working with Victor's. They are honest and saved my family a lot of money. I highly recommend their services, and if for whatever reason you are between several close estimates, let this review be a reminder that if you go with Victor,s your not hiring a company out to scam you, you are hiring a company who will get the job done right, and who is looking out for your best interests! - Chris, Middlesex, NJ
