This is such a comfortable, reliable and friendly cafe in Highland square. The drinks and food are relatively cheap and quality. There are also some very creative drinks on the menu that fit the season. A large drink is normally under $4. There is a wide selection of pastries and other things to eat here. Whenever I think about moving back to Ohio, I fantasize about visiting this cafe regularly, reading and pretending to work in this cafe near a window. The environment inside is incredibly charming. It's so cozy and comfortable inside. It reminds me of a fancy grandma's living room that has class but also loves to bake cookies whenever. This is the perfect spot to meet friends, do some homework, or anything else that you would do in a cafe. This is my favorite neighborhood spot! Good coffee, great atmosphere, and I dig the staff.

I came here for an afternoon meeting recently. The atmosphere was cool, and I liked the funky decor and seating. But that's about it. I had a cup of decaf, and it tasted about as good as highway rest-stop decaf. Let me be even more clear: It was bad. And served in a styrofoam cup. Why? As other reviewers have noted, the service was pretty rude. The internet was convoluted and ended up just not working for my computer at all (meeting bust). The place was crowded, which is not itself a big deal, but the single men's bathroom stall was then an issue. I'm not in a hurry to go back. read more

Angel Falls deserves more than a three star average. It's a heart of this community and a great place for people to meet, chill out, and work. I appreciate that they maintain a welcoming, clean and cozy space inside and out. Some of the drinks are truly excellent, especially the cortado, which is still a little obscure in the US and they do it nicely. Everything else is at least up to the standards of a good indie coffee shop. So, about the rudeness complaints. Yeah, I can see that. The thing is, I also see the owner having friendly chats with regulars, who treat him like a neighbor and friend. And I see them working hard to maintain a welcoming and friendly space, and dealing with eccentrics and folks who are a bit rough around the edges with equanimity and grace. So, I find this place to be quite friendly. Part of the trouble for some, I think, is that American culture teaches us to expect to treat retail workers like objects (no eye contact, no courtesy "gimme a medium coffee") and expect to be treated with (fake) cheerfulness in return. Treat these folks like you are buying coffee from your neighbors, with humanity and courtesy, and you are likely to get the same in return. That's my experience. read more

I've lived in the neighborhood for six years now and avoid this place. The coffee is fine. Maybe there was a time when their coffee was impressive, but that time is over. The food they offer is fine too. It's not bad, but it's not great. The atmosphere is awful. It's extremely crowded with uncomfortable and unkempt seating. It's very loud. They used to offer free internet, now it's free for a while and then pay. I'm not interested in that. I can go to any other coffee shop and get a good product with a better atmosphere and WiFi. The customer service is deplorable. I have no idea how they stay open because the owners are actively rude to the customers. It's not the baristas who are rude; if you encounter a barista, they are generally ok. The truly rude baristas are the owners. Not only are they rude, but they don't care about their customers. I have food allergies and asked about ingredients and the owner didn't know and told me he didn't care. I don't understand being rude, but it clearly works for them. You're better off getting coffee anywhere else, including Starbucks. I'd rather drive somewhere else for coffee than cross the street for this place. read more

When I was done, I brought my mug up to the front because I didn't know where the dirty dishes were (never been there before), and the guy at the front plucked it out of my hand and gave me the dirtiest stare of my life. Angel Falls isn't the best coffee shop in the world, but it's undoubtedly the best coffee shop in Akron. Since my girlfriend currently lives exactly one block away, I've spent many cold, snowy mornings hunkered down in Angel Falls, with a hot cup of coffee and some good reading material. This is what Angel Falls does best - it has an excellent, cozy atmosphere that's usually busy, but rarely overcrowded. Unfortunately, I can't justify 5-stars, because the coffee leaves something to be desired. I haven't tried all of the drinks of the menu, but I have tried many, and can say that I've tasted better. read more

Overall first impressions :dim, dingy, stuffy, crowded. The space was large enough but it was packed full of tables an ratty couches to the point where walking with a piping hot cup of coffee becomes a dangerous challenge. The blonde haired male barista has an attitude problem, replied back to my question of how the coffee I was looking at was processed with "if you meant roasted (I didn't)... I love this coffee shop! Not for their coffee because I've never had it. And tbh their Chai is hit or miss. Every time I ask them to make it extra strong and depending on whose working and what mood they are in, my drink will either be perfect or weak. They stock some truly delectable, home made baked goods from local bakers that always make me drool. I absolutely love their pineapple upside down cupcake! The real reason I love this place is the ambiance. The music is calming and invigorating at the same time. Their chairs are unique,massive, and comfy. It's lovely to sink into them and open a book or chat with friends. The big table in the back is great for spreading out and getting some work done. They have plenty of outlets littered around the room that make working on a computer easy. One does wish they would clean their furniture more often and deeply. Some of the cloth pieces are in desperate need of a deep clean. It is, after all, a coffee shop. Spills happen and with so many people in out, it can and has gotten gross very quickly. I'd rather spend my money at Nervous Dog or Starbucks. Staff is rude, not friendly at all. Would refuse to take my order when I was on the phone with an important call that I even offered to put on hold while ordering my coffee. I've had other rude experiences by the staff multiple times. I usually get a mocha and you can barely taste the chocolate. Only good part of this place is the nice indoor or outdoor seating area. Everything else sucks. Angel Falls opened shortly after I moved away from Highland Square in December of 1996. This means that the business recently celebrated it's 10th anniversary at this location. Kinda cool. Angel Falls is what makes indie coffee shops awesome. There are wood floors, squashy couches to sink into with a book, a bookshelf full of books which have been left behind and board games to play with people at the heavy, wood cafe tables. The warm and inviting smell of fresh ground espresso beans permeates the air and big picture windows which let in lots of sunlight. In a coffee shop like Angel Falls it is hard to imagine anything wrong with the world. It is a haven. A place to escape to, to meet your friends at, to slow down and watch the world going by at. Not to mention their coffee is first rate. There is no burnt, old tasting coffee to be had at Angel Falls - no, no - each cup is a caffeine addicts perfect drug... I could probably conquer the world if I had a constant stream of vanilla latte's from Angel Falls flowing through my veins. They also serve food and yummy looking pastries. I wish Angel Falls was in San Francisco. If it was, that is where people would be able to find me. The local coffee shop. 'Cause that's the kind of girl I am. I've been to AFC three times. All three times I've been underwhelmed. The only reason I come here is because it is close to my apartment. The coffee is okay, nothing special. The espresso is decent and they pull a good shot of espresso. I wish they had a non-nut based dairy free milk. Having only almond milk seems weird given the prevalence of nut allergies. The "baristas" seem more interested in talking to their friends than attending to customers. In a room of 10+ people, they are the only ones making noise. Finally, $1.00 for a refill of coffee is ridiculous. I get charging for a refill, but $0.50 is more reasonable. I wouldn't tell someone to seek this place out, but if you're in Highland Square and need an okay cup of coffee it's not bad. If you are looking for a better cup of coffee, go to Akron Roasters or Nervous Dog. read more

This place left a grossly rank taste in my mouth! Horrible service experience!!! My girlfriend and I went here to have brunch, I ordered a coffee and some pastries, my girlfriend didn't order anything because she has I.B.S. and is very sensitive to just about everything. We sat down to have brunch so she discreetly pulls out a Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich she packed. We're sitting there enjoying brunch when a gentleman barista comes over and says, "Excuse me, you're not allowed to have food in here." I looked at him confused as he points to my girlfriends PB&J. I said, "Oh, I'm sorry, we understand, it's just that my girlfriend has extreme food allergies and she can't eat anything on your menu, could you make an exception?" His reply was, "No". No apologies, no recommendations, just "NO". I stood up, left my $14.00 of food on the table, told him that me nor my family nor my girlfriends family will ever be back to this place... EVER, and left. For a stuck-up establishment that has been consistently more concerned with the quality it's beans than the experience and needs of its customers, I shouldn't be surprised. Considering they were willing to lose all of my business and my friends and family's business over a PB&J simply confirms my distaste for this establishment. DON'T GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY!!! read more

After having a rather disgusting experience at the Angel Falls store in downtown Akron (link available below), I was a bit apprehensive about setting foot inside this store. Nonetheless, I gave this store the benefit of the doubt. After all, this is Akron's upscale Highland Square district (as upscale as Akron gets anyway, but I digress). I ordered a mocha and a fruit danish. The danish is typical. The cup of mocha was flat and lacking in flavor. I tasted mostly milk, some hints of espresso, and next to no chocolate. THEY ARE SKIMPING ON MY MOCHA! As far as quality of food is concerned, this place receives 2 stars. It has nice local vibes, you can't find that often in Akron. It's a great place to catch up on some work, journal, or just chill. It has a comfortable atmosphere and lots of seats/tables. Coffee was good, got a vanilla latte. Not the best local coffee I've ever had, but it was good. I love that the city is slowly trying to give this area the love it deserves. (LOVE the little library book stop outside the building where you can "take a book, give a book" kind of thing. This is not affiliated with Angel Falls but it's neat perk.) Very, very good coffee and espresso - best in the region in my view, by a long shot - served by some of the crankier baristas this side of the Mississippi (anyone who has been helped by the grumpy Muscle Guy knows EXACTLY what I'm talking about). Funky, warm and eclectic vibe, complete with all the features of today's hipster coffee hangouts: old board games, record player memorabilia, and friendly regular wierdos who start conversations with you no matter how busy you try to look. Great place to hang out. The co-owners are often manning the cash register and espresso machines and always bring service with a smile. My favorite part is the lunch menu. Somewhere in a tiny kitchen, they whip up absolutely delicious concoctions with the freshest ingredients. My personal favorite is the chicken salad sandwich on a home-baked artisan roll. It's actually light but full-flavored with interesting spice. And the accompanying green salad usually has fresh fruit and a tangy vinaigrette. Yum! And of course the coffee can't be beat! If you have $10, you can still have the perfect date: split a pot of your favorite roast in a French press to share. Then split a piece of any of their scrumptious cheesecakes! read more

I really do like Angel Falls. I guess I don't have much to add...although I will say, if anyone has tried coffee here and not liked, maybe you should try something different? I didn't actually like it on my first visit. I had an iced mocha or some such. Now, every time I go I get a white mocha. Their white mochas are quite delish. If you're into that sort of thing, I highly recommend it. I wouldn't say the employees are rude, but they are definitely...quirky. Just depends on the day I guess. I've never had terrible service. And for what it's worth, the bathrooms here are probably the cutest bathrooms I've ever seen in a coffee shop (or anywhere). A wreath made of high heels? Yes please. I like the laid back atmosphere. I loved this hep, relaxing, and well run coffee shop when I was in High School and would hitched rides with friends to this location 30 miles away from my small town. I loved this shop when I lived in my first Mecca, Highland Square, and I still love it now, when I fly 2,000 or so miles to sit quietly with my coffee and caramel. Oh, the Caramels! My favorite things are : The atmosphere, the caramels, mixing matte with whatever I feel like (chamomile, ginger, etc.) espresso, dark coffee blends, funky decadent deserts, breakfast croissants, meeting up with friends, and watching the square go by. I always visit whenever I am in town, and am so glad this shop is still running strong, despite economic twists in the area! read more

We went to Angel Falls on a Saturday night in 10/07 after eating dinner at Aladdin's Eatery (see my separate review), and *loved* it! Half of it has a sort of "library" feel and there was a *wonderful* ambiance overall. It's the type of place where you really want to linger (even though it's not very large) and the barristas were very friendly. We opted for warm apple cider and delicious desserts, with many tempting choices for the latter. The Highland Square neighborhood overall is lovely and charming. read more

I can't really add anything to what people have already been raving about; putting in my three cents is about it for contribution. This treasure of a spot earns an official "Brandon's Five Star Rating". I've said this about other places before, but for what this place attempts to be and/or hopes to accomplish, it succeeds. I'm a cappuccino guy, generally with a cookie chaser. As has been said below, the baristas are quite a cut above average whether by process or accident. They can recommend teas and such with knowledge, and they're always nice to my stepmom, a great gal but one that can often take an extra minute figuring out what to get. Anyway, back to the point...they make the capps dry, which is how I like them...with a little kick. The cookies and snacks have always been good in my visits. There's a large seating area, and random books strewn about if you forget yours. As is with all good cafes, you can sit and crash for a while and not get evil glares. It's located right on West Market, with easy street parking and/or a lot to the side of it. you can also walk to this joint fairly easily/safely if you live in a surrounding nabe. A good jumping off point to meet your crew before heading out. Will continue going there whenever I'm in Akron, as long as it stays in business. Which, it shouldn't have any trouble doing. read more

I haven't been here since 2005 but still wanted to write a review for the coffee house and staff from that year and years prior. My best friend used to live in Akron and I would fly all the way from LA to visit him. He lived right across the street from here. Our other friend and I would have coffee here every morning outside in the freezing cold so I could have a cigarette (you can't do that in LA, not even outside!) and then we would come in and play games at the table. Such a cozy place with wonderful memories. I will never forget it! read more
