I am not the first person to leave a review like this (there is a CLEAR pattern here), but I will leave a more direct review. And for what it's worth, I've never left a scathing review for any business in my life...but I believe most folks inherently trust their doctors and are at risk of being taken advantage of by Dr Gum with recommended fillings and surgical procedures that are entirely unnecessary and perhaps poorly performed. Context: For nine years before Angela Gum, I had one filling at my dentist. I brush, floss, and use antiseptic mouth wash 2x daily, and I drink more than a gallon of water per day. In three years with Angela Gum, I had six fillings, a crown, and was told that I "grinded my teeth (not true) and had me fitted for a sleep guard. (read: she charged me all sorts of money for things I didn't actually need) Finally, at this year's appointment, when I was nearly certain I had no cavities, I was told that I needed to come back in for three fillings, and that she wanted to see me 3x per year rather than the standard 2. This just didn't sit right with me, so I went and got a second opinion. This new dentist did a thorough review and assured me that I needed "no active procedures" and had no cavities. To be judicious, I asked her to take the most aggressive preventive care posture possible, and asked if she'd recommend any fillings, and I was told "absolutely not." Not only that, but this second opinion dentist asked me "how long I'd had the crown" and I told her two years, as Dr. Gum put it in two years ago. TL;DR on this...she told me that the crown wasn't placed correctly, she'd have guessed it was years older, and that we'd need to keep an eye on it. Given my own personal experience combined with other reviews I see here on Yelp, I'm confident when I am concerned for every patient of any doctor who exploits trust for profits. If you're a patient of Dr Gum and she's recommending any fillings, procedures, or other solutions, I'd strongly recommend you get a second opinion! read more

I've waited over a year to post this, and I am still experiencing pain to this day since going here. I've seen her get defensive on other people's posts and try to disregard their experience so I've been avoiding posting, but Ive finally decided to warn people anyway. Because of her I ended up having to have two root canals that I never would have needed had I just went somewhere else because she was negligent and drilled too deep for a routine filling. See below if you'd like the story. I have always had nearly perfect teeth. I never had braces, no sensitivities, and I've only had maybe a couple of small cavities prior to my visit here. When I moved to Columbus I decided to visit Angela Gum's office, and she told me I had five cavities. This was a shock even though she told me they were minor, and I hadn't been to the dentist in a while so I believed her. She then did fillings on three of the teeth and during the drilling (even though I was numbed) I felt some pain. She was also chatting away with a hygienist, so I don't think she was paying that close of attention. As I started gaining feeling in my tongue, I noticed that my one tooth was SO much lower, like I wouldn't have been able to chew food. Soon after I started gaining feeling the pain was just getting worse and worse. I went back in that day and they did a scan and told me I had "high pulp horns". So basically they hit my nerves and were making excuses even though they had my X-rays to begin with. I call bullshit because I could feel with my tongue how low the tooth was and it was insane. She ended up referring me to another specialist to do a root canal for the tooth she believed to be causing the issue. I was certain it was more than one but they started with just that one. Sure enough the pain didn't go away and they had to do a root canal on the other tooth too. When I tell you this is the worst pain I've ever experienced I mean it. I would've rather been shot. I tried every pain relief I could think of and nothing helped, not even the one she prescribed to me. She didn't even offer to put my caps on for free or even give me a significant discount (which was thousands of dollars by the way). I had dental insurance but it wasn't covering this. Not the mention the root canals also ended up being around 500-600 each. She cost me a ton of money, my mental health, and my physical health all due to her negligence. I still have sensitive to this day when I drink water, and doesn't even have to be that cold. I'm not sure if the specialist didn't get all the nerves in the two teeth, or if she messed up the third one that bad too. I tell everyone I know to avoid her like the plague. And there's another story similar to mine on yelp. I don't know if there's more, but this is already too many times. She's lucky I'm not the type to sue. read more

Very drill and bill. I came back from a month long work trip back in 2022 and was having pain in my teeth. I knew I needed dental work done, but just didn't know the extent. Came in for a checkup and was told everything I needed done could only be done with root canals and was quoted over $8k to get everything done. That was NOT going to happen. Went and got a second opinion and only needed fillings. Would not recommend here unless you want to be quoted more than you need for your dental work. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Gum and her staff for over 6 years. I visit her twice every year for normal checkups, and I end up with about 2 minor procedures each year, usually a filling. Know that I have bad genes and have always needed fillings and maintenance on them. Dr. Gum, Toni up front, and the rest of her staff are always helpful and professional. I've never had to wait for more than 5 minutes past my appointment, and they're often ready when I get there a few minutes early. I've had a few hygienists, and I like them all. The office is modern and seems like they have up-to-date equipment. The rooms are equipped with TVs for distraction, but I always request them off. They're good at keeping me informed, telling me how long the procedure will take. They'll tell me what they're doing each step of the way if I ask. They're good at the numbing as well. I don't numb easily, and they always keep the procedure painless. I can tell Dr. Gum cares about her patients and her team. I'll keep her as my dentist for as long as I'm in the area. read more

From Dr. Gum herself and the hygienists, to the front staff especially Toni, they're a well-coordinated team. I routinely go to the dentist every 6 months, prior dentist didn't mention needing several fillings. When I went to Angela she found a few cavities. I had pain/problems ever since she filled them including a root canal and a tooth that has had pain but is not to the point of a root canal; I went back several times to try to adjust them. She talked of additional fillings and I switched dentists. New dentist says I don't need any fillings. I know dentists need to make judgment calls on the state of your teeth, but I find it interesting other people have had the same experience at this office. I've gotta add some background before giving my official review: I have literally been to 9 different dentists in the past decade. I have THE WORST luck with dental issues and have been burned over and over again by subpar dental care, crazy inflated costs and false promises. When I finally thought I'd found the perfect dentist a year ago, my dental insurance changed and I was forced to switch yet again to find an in network office. I gave Dr. Gum's office a try based on a search of my insurance site's preferred providers and some google research. It's turned out to be the best decision ever. Dr. Gum's office is by far the best dental experience I've had - and I've done a tour de Columbus of dentists! The office itself is clean and modern with all of the best technology. Normally this would translate into "this is gonna be expensive" but that's not the case here. The staff are beyond friendly and helpful- they make me feel like a welcome friend instead of just an opportunity to collect money. The hygienists are thorough but genuinely concerned about patient comfort. And Dr. Gum herself is very knowledgeable, personable and reasonable in her approach to dental care. I've been going here for over a year now and have had routine cleanings as well as several major procedures done and I've been completely satisfied with each visit. They were upfront and completely transparent with any associated costs. Even when I had a negative experience with a dental tech early on, Dr. Gum took my feedback seriously and worked quickly to right the wrong. I can't say I'm ever really "happy/excited" to go to the dentist (I mean, who is?) but Dr. Gum's office truly makes it as painless and pleasant as possible. read more

Don't go here if you're fresh out of college and looking to switch from your parents dentist office. Spent about an hour in the chair - no talks of any cavities or anything alarming until i went to schedule my next appointment. I figured they were looking for another 6 month check up - turns out they said i needed quite a bit of work done! Scared of the costs they were talking about as well as questions like 'do you want to do your right side before your left?' I reached out to my previous dentist up in Cleveland. He told me to schedule my appointments somewhere else. A week later - I got my teeth polished, and the dentist looked over everything and said 'yea - you're all set. no cavities - see you in 6 months.' Long story short - don't go to the office unless you want them to do extra work you don't need or can't afford. read more

If you're looking for a dentist who will "find" cavities to fill, does a poor job filling said "cavities" (IE- fillings that are loose-ouch!), so she can make some $, then this is the dentist for you. Otherwise, stay away! read more

I've been going to Dr. Gum for 4 or 5 years. I've always had a good experience. She and her staff are very nice and professional. The office is beautiful, definitely not your typical beige dentist office. The hygienists have always done a great job cleaning my teeth. Dr. Gum has filled a few cavities and done root canal for me. They have all been fine and never given me any problems. I highly recommend this practice. read more

Dr. Angela Gum and her team do a great job. The location is perfect for me and the scheduling always works out. The place is always looking neat and clean. When I saw Dr. Gum, she informed me that I had six cavities. I'd seen another dentist six months prior for a cleaning who didn't mention anything about cavities, but against my better judgement, I allowed Dr. Gum to work on three of them. After my visit, the receptionist informed me that the dental assistant who did my fillings was doing a "working interview." Dr. Gum did not inform me of this, and was not present in the room while the dental assistant was working on me. I wonder if he even got paid. Since then, 2/3 of the teeth she drilled have needed root canals within the year. We will see what happens with the third tooth, I have been experiencing thermal sensitivity in that area but I can't afford the root canal now because I maxed out my insurance for the year. I have high nerves and she should have been more careful when drilling. My experience with her turned out to be very expensive and extremely painful. read more
