Hiring an amazing wedding photographer was on the top of the list for our wedding. I planned a destination wedding and wasn't sure where to even start. I took all of the names that had been given to me from other vendors and started looking at their websites and instagram photos. I knew it was important to us that the beauty of this destination we had chosen would be captured. I googled what questions to ask your photographer. As I interviewed the top 3 I'd chosen, learned more about my personal preference of photography than I ever knew I would. Angie is the best of the best. She met with us when we arrived on Maui to get to know us and discuss our must have shots. She took time to show us the breathtaking printed albums she creates from the big day. Angie offers different packages for your needs and is very flexible if you decide you need more time added. Angie and her assistant, Amber, captured every single important moment for us to be able to relive one of the most important days of our life. Not to mention, it felt like we were with friends and there weren't any awkward moments. The morning after, she sent a couple of teaser photos... and WOW! I could go on and on about all of the great shots captured, but I'll just let them speak for themselves. Once the photos are ready for viewing, Angie schedules a virtual date night to view them. She prepares you to be undistracted and have snacks and drinks available during the creation your album with her (scheduled for 2 hours). What she doesn't tell you is that you'll need a box of tissues too. The first time I saw our day captured perfectly, it brought tears to my eyes. Sitting there with my now husband, we were able to bring back all of the feelings from the day of and see what all of our guests were seeing while we were enjoying ourselves. Angie is one of my favorite vendors we booked for our wedding day (and I liked all of them!). She was recommended to us by our wedding planner and the second I browsed her portfolio and saw how her packages work I had to have her! She was so fun to work with for both our engagement shoot and wedding day- and interact with periodically on instagram. She even sent us this adorable gift care package a month before our wedding. Her 2nd photographer the day of our wedding (Amber) was also really fun. I really appreciated that her style isn't the typical cookie cutter wedding photography you often see -lots of candid/raw moments vs posing (besides family formals). Also lots of vivid color! While browsing through Yelp before our recent trip to Maui, I decided to hire Angela to take pictures of my Husband, his kids and I for our semi annual family pictures. I chose Angela because of her great Yelp reviews, and because she had a "Tiny Package" for a 30 minute photo shoot that was perfect for our family. Most of the photographers I looked up only had "Wedding" packages that lasted for hours and that was definitely too much for us. Communication with Angela through email was easy and we arranged a day and time for us all to meet. Definitely book her in advance because space fills up quickly! I believe I booked her about 4 months ahead of our mid October trip to Maui. The day of the photos we got up early and met her on the beach in Paia around 8:00am for our pictures because that's where she shoots the Tiny Package. Be sure to keep an eye on your phone! She will use it to meet you by the lifeguard stand on the beach. I didn't think of this, so we ended up meeting about 15 minutes late. Oops! Angela was super friendly and instantly made us feel comfortable. We never felt rushed and had plenty of time to take pictures. Best of all, the pictures turned out wonderfully! I loved them all and had a hard time picking 10 to keep. We got to keep the originals so we can make copies as we pleased. This review is way overdue, but better late than never! I reached out to Angela (as well as 8 other photographers) a few weeks before my girlfriend and I were taking a trip to beautiful Maui. I was planning on proposing and I wanted to photograph and commemorate the big moment. Angela responded immediately with an excited and heartfelt email. Her photos on her website spoke for themselves and the price was great, so I booked her for my surprise proposal. Over the course of the next three weeks Angela sent me photos and videos of different, amazing locations around Maui that I could pick from to propose (I asked for her ideas because I had never been to HI). She was INCREDIBLY helpful throughout the entire process. We settled on a private beach a quarter mile from Mama's Fish House (where we got dinner after) on the North Shore of Maui. Angela went so far as to send me pictures and videos of exactly where to park may car, as well as where to walk on the beach. Angela pretended to be asleep on an empty beach, camera in her bag, as we walked by her on the beach. As soon as I popped the question Angela started snapping pictures with her zoom lens. My fiancé had no idea she was there and Angela captured the entire thing! After the emotions subsided Angela introduced herself and we enjoyed the rest of the sunset taking both candid and staged photos. Angela stayed with us way longer than she initially quoted me. She also sent me more photos than she quoted me. The photos are AMAZING. She has true talent and we couldn't be happier with the end result. And to top it all off, when we we're finished with the pictures, Angela gave us a long list of must-see places around the island. We chatted a couple times via email about location and decided on Baldwin Beach which was by Angela's recommendation. I decided on an early morning session since babies are early risers and my daughter is typically more active in the morning. On the day of, we showed up and Angela was so sweet, personable and professional. We got started right away. She has such a wonderful eye for lighting and colors, and even better, she was amazing with the baby. She put us right at ease, it was a little awkward at first, just because...well it's just weird standing there trying to act natural when you know someone is taking pictures haha. Angela was very efficient, and we had such a great time playing in the waves and enjoying the sunrise. Angela has such a quick turn around and the gallery was available a couple days after the blog post was up...I was so thrilled with the pictures!! They came out so beautifully and I am so grateful for Angela! We were able to capture our daughter at such a wonderful age, we have memories of an amazing vacation and the photos are just to die for. My only hesitation in writing this review is that Angie will get so booked up we'll never be able to get photos with her again. She is wonderful. She arranged to have floral pieces for my hair and my daughters, and the day of the shoot we arrived with a kid who was sick of being in the car. To top it off, she got stung by a bee. Then she proceeded to jump in the ocean in her pressed white dress. So what did we do? We all kept going. We laughed and had a blast. And our pics from Maui are some of my most favorite we've ever gotten. They're so raw and authentic and capture the spirit of my daughter perfectly. Hands down the best decision I've ever made was to email Angela that I was interested in having her photograph my small ceremony in Maui. I am from Atlanta, was planning a big wedding in my hometown and decided fairly last minute that I wanted to trash that idea and elope. For our 10 month old son's first trip to Maui, I wanted to schedule a professional photo session for our family to capture the moments and beautiful scenery. After searching through numerous sources, yelp reviews, and looking over quite a few photographer's online portfolios, we settled on Angela Nelson. We liked her work, creative, artistic and warm; her pictures look real and not excessively post-produced by software. So my wife initiated contact and communications with Angela was always easy and replies prompt. She suggested great locations which was really convenient for us. When she showed up, she was sweet, very personable and professional and extremely easy to work with. What was more amazing was that Angela is great with babies! She immediately engaged and connected with our 10 month old baby and had him giggling, laughing, and smiling.... something I don't think many photographers are able to do. Originally the plan was just the sweetheart session, but as circumstances changed and the feelings were right, a surprise engagement was absolutely the right thing to do. Angela was actually referred to us from another photographer. This shows that she is also respected and liked by other professionals. When I contacted her the process was very easy and she took the time to get to know us to pick the absolutely perfect locations for the session. I emailed back and forth questions and a suggestions several months before our session till the very last day. Angela was always a consummate professional answering all my questions and considering all my suggestions. I asked for a separate email to send to my girlfriend that mentioned nothing about the proposal, to eliminate any possible suspicions. I discussed with Angela what my girlfriend likes and loves, what locations, sunrise or sunset, and to how the proposal will happen. I didn't have a fancy way of proposing, I just wanted to get the proposal out of the way in the first 10 minutes so we can move on the engagement session. I suggested the idea of having a secret word between me and Angela during the session to signify that we are both ready and set up for the proposal. The secret word was "marvelous". We all met at the Ho'okipa Beach, Northern Maui. The proposal went perfectly, as Angela said, "this view is marvelous" and I replied "it truly is marvelous" to confirm both parties are ready. The proposal photos were breathtaking. The colors of the sunrise sky, the beautiful waves, and the cliffs to bring out even more contrast. To make the moment even more special was the multiple locations we went to in one session. It was easy to go from place to place by following her in our jeep rental. We went down to the beach to take pictures with the sea turtles (which my fiancée loves). We also took some photos at a sea wall and at the stairs heading to the beach. Here I purchased leis from Angela to add to the session. They were excellent touches to the pictures and brought a truly Hawaiian cultural feel to it. We also went to an empty road that was surrounded by sugar can fields and tall trees. It was very artistic. We went to another beach by Mama's Fish House (amazing food) and took photos dancing, sitting on a palm tree, and posing at a rustic gate. Finally the photo shoot ended at the Paia Coffee Shop, where the photos where very colorful and warm. It was such a great experience and we enjoyed exploring beautiful parts of Maui with Angela. She was so easy to talk to and it never felt uncomfortable or awkward. She made us very at ease in front of the camera and we appreciated her patience and guidance throughout the whole process. My wife, daughter, and I hired Angela to take photos out in the sands of Maui, and we're so glad we did, as both the experience and the photos themselves were, like, totally awesome dude! (Ok, ok, so I grew up in LA in the 80s -- that's the best way I can convey how awesome the photos were!) My wife contacted Angela in advance of our Maui vacation, and gave Angela some sample beach photos from the internet to give her an idea of what we envisioned. We met up a couple days after arriving in Maui, early in the morning on the somewhat remote beach Angela suggested. Right from the start, Angela had a wonderful way of making us all feel comfortable posing in various settings on the beach as a family, playing in the water, and running around as the playful family we are. She has great ideas for nice shots, but also listens when we have ideas too. She had a good eye for the best lighting, getting some of our portraits very nicely back-lit with sunlight filtering through the trees. The photo shoot on the beach was just the beginning, because after getting back from the vacation, when we received the finished digital photos (ahead of schedule I might add), we were surprised that she got **so many** gorgeous photographs of us. She really captured our daughter's natural smile and fun attitude, and she got loads of great photos of us showing our playfulness, with the beautiful beach and ocean and trees in the background. She got some great mother-daughter giggling shots. I could go on and on telling you about all the shots. Overall, we really couldn't have imagined there's a better portrait photographer out there in Maui -- Angela is not only reasonably priced, but she knows how to bring out the best of your personalities and capture them in beautiful photographs. She has lots of ideas on how to compose great portraits. I can't say enough positive things about Angie. She became more than our wedding photographer, she became our wedding advocate and friend. She's incredibly down to earth and approachable. But in addition, she is the photographic genius. Like PHOTOGRAPHIC GENIUS. She helped with timing our wedding, gave great advice in terms of where on the venue we should get married to optimize lighting, and had ideas for the closing, table settings, and how to engage the guests. Everything. On our wedding day, she was not intrusive, she was always there, always taking pictures, but not in the way of the events. And her pictures... We look like we belong on a magazine cover. Angela did an absolutely amazing job photographing our wedding in Kihei. Living in California and trying to book a photographer remotely was a bit nerve racking, but after a lot of research and a few phone calls I knew we had picked the perfect match for us. From the very beginning, she answered all of our questions and was so patient with me, especially with me not being a local and planning my wedding remotely on my own. She was always extremely responsive to both emails and voicemails which made it so wonderful to work with her. She recommended some great other vendors for music and hair/makeup! The days leading up to our wedding she made sure to check in with us and even offered to meet us a few days before for coffee just to have a meet and greet before the big day! She was prompt showing up on our wedding day, and did a beautiful job capturing everything we asked for and MORE. What first caught my attention before I booked Angela was when she wrote online about herself and specifically this part "I am usually covered in sand after each photo session"! She literally does whatever it takes to capture every perfect moment and we had a blast doing all the different photos with her. She is so creative and comes up with photo ideas I had never seen. Honestly when I show them to people they are in awe of what she created. We really cannot thank Angela enough for the hard work and fun loving attitude that she had on our special day.
