Everything was absolutely delicious, but I wasn't impressed by the final look of my wedding cake. We already had some concerns, because after placing our order, our friend informed us that they had burned her cake. Also, while visiting our venue, they were catering another wedding. The frosting work was not clean by any means. We expressed our concerns as we had ordered a very intricate cake. Ended up changing the whole design to a very simple 3 tier, with painted stripes. There were cracks in the painted stripes, they were not straight, and the entire cake had huge creases from where the fondant met in the back. We ended up getting creative ourselves, and covered it with jewels. Pretty big bummer for your wedding. The bottom and biggest layer of our cake was burned. When we called to complain they said we are the only ones who have dared to complain and hung up. read more

I was expecting to be very impressed based on the other reviews. I guess our order was too small to be bothered with. I had ordered a 6" lemon cake with lemon frosting and a bavarian creme and raspberry filling. Topped with chocolate roses and a message. I had asked by email if that was possible and they said it was. It was for our 46th wedding anniversary and my husband had wanted a lemon cake. I had thought that $16 was too little for a nice cake even though it was small and I was going to pay double that asking price. When I picked up the cake, I was in shock. A cake is supposed to be pretty. A work of art almost. Not the case here. The chocolate roses were barely chocolate colored and the frosting was stark white. Obviously no butter in their "buttercreme" frosting. Just shortning (and it tasted like it too) And the message was written in black icing which tasted awful. I had been expecting at least yellow frosting on the outside of the cake. I mean it was supposed to be a lemon cake. Well as it turns out there was no lemon in the cake. Just a standard yellow cake which was just this side of dry. The only part of the cake that had lemon flavoring was the white icing. When I said something about the color to the cashier one of the workers said in a very offhand way "Sorry about the miscommunication" but she didn't sound sorry at all which showed a total lack of caring about their customers. They did offer to "remake" it but given the fact that the butter creme is not made with butter and the cake would still not lemon flavored. They probably bake the cakes up by the batches instead of to order which is what I had been expecting due to the fact of the email response. If this had been the cake I had actually ordered, I would have been coming back with more orders for birthdays etc. This really was a very upsetting event on what was a special day for us. read more

BEWARE BRIDES TO BE!! We met Carl, chef & owner of this bakery at a bridal show in 2018 and tought his cakes were good (although he was the only one at this one show) he was very nice and seemed very professional about his work and his displays of wedding cakes were quite pretty for the show. Based on our experience with him we decided to schedule a cake tasting for our wedding coming up this year of September 2020 and met with his wife & owner Melina. She gave us a sample of 4 or 5 different cakes (2 of which we tasted at the bridal show) and honestly the flavors were not as great as I remember from the show but they were good enough. We went over details for our wedding, cake flavors, pricing, etc. She gave us a quote on our wedding cake and even offered to make some flavors not on the menu based on our specific likes, we loved the idea and discussed those as well during our tasting. I reached back to her this year to schedule this 2nd tasting of the flavors we would like to try and to book our cake with them but the response back was quite disappointing!! She tried to increase our price over $250dlls from our original quote given just 2 months before without prior notice or warning to us that her prices were subject to change. She also wanted to charge an extra $50dlls for a second tasting of flavors we discussed in person and never mentioned there would be an additional charge. During our tasting there was no mention from her that without deposit or signature she was gona raise her prices or we could risk paying more from the original quote she gave us. The quote had a "good until" section that she did not filled out meaning our quote had no expiration date yet she tried to raise our price from $750 to almost $1000dlls only 2 months after our meeting. I asked her to honor the original quote since she was not clear on her quote and Never said her prices were subject to change or offered to close a deal the day of our tasting and she refused stating she has the "right to raise her prices without signature or deposit" on contract, which I agree but not when you are not notified of such or given clear communication. She said her business prides themselves on integrity, flavors and their prices but I doubt this to be the truth since it wasn't my experience. I am glad though that this happened because after now reading some reviews on here I am afraid my wedding cake would had been a disaster would I had hired them and I am happy to be taking my business elsewhere and not provide any referrals or recommendations ever for them! I'm officially a repeat customer. A tiny bakery, but it has awesome customer service, delicious cakes, and reasonable prices. I asked for a beer mug cake like one I saw online, and they matched it. I sent my inquiry via email and the team responded promptly via email and phone. Not sure how long of a lead time they need, but I inquired 2weeks prior for this cake. Had to bring in the beer can, but that's understandable given it's not ordinarily used for cake decorating. I also appreciated how they were the ones who carried and set-up the cake for transport in my car. The only downside I can think of is that the bakery is closed on Sundays, but most bakeries are and you can always pick up your orders the day before. Thank you for a great experience! read more

This bakery has made wedding and special occasion cakes for my family for a few years now. In the past, i have always dealt with the owner Karl who is a pleasant man. Today, after running errands, I decided to go in and order a bday cake with no idea how i wanted the cake to be. I was greeted by an employee (maybe the owners wife? Hispanic lady) idk but from the beginning she was rude beyond belief. The whole time she kept sighing as if I was bothering her when I was asking questions. She kept rushing me asking me questions in a hurry. At one point i found a cake I liked from the pics on her computer and I merely asked her how many macaroons it came on top? And she replied with a dirty look, "ma'am, I don't know. You can add as many as you want!" At that point, I realized that this lady was bothered by my presence, she didn't need my business or cared if she lost it and simply wanted me gone. I told her, "you know what I'll think about it, you look like you're busy and I won't take anymore of your time." She was clearly annoyed, gave me a dirty look again and gave out a big huff. Her attitude was absolutely unprofessional. She lacks tact, courtesy and patience. To be honest, this lady has been at this bakery for years bcuZ I've been ordering from them before and she did my daughters taste testing a few years ago and she was just as rude but it wasn't my appointment so I kept quiet. It's so disheartening bcuZ Karl is super nice. In fact we have run into him at wedding events (our family is in the wedding business as well) and it's sad to see such an unprofessional, rude employee/owner/baker connected to this establishment. Because they really are good cakes. I love this bakery! A year ago I ordered my wedding cake from here. My husband and I tried multiple places but this was by far the best tasting with a reasonable cost. They delivered a beautiful cake the day of the wedding with no problems and it was just as I imagined. Guests were sure to tell me how much they loved the cake as well. The Worst Experience... Ripped off by this baker for a wedding. Saw them at the Del Mar Wedding Expo. Ordered $600 in cupcakes for 250 people for a wedding to take place 12 months later and paid upfront to get a discount. My dad ended up with liver cancer and was scheduled for chemo so I threw my wedding together in a week so he could walk me down the aisle. And even though I gave the baker more than 6 months notice that the big wedding had to be canceled, he refused to refund any of the money I had put down - nothing, nada, not one cent. I would love to write a glowing review about Eccentric International Chefs, but I was not entirely pleased with my one and only experience with this bakery. While in the process of searching for a bakery for my wedding cake, a friend recommended Eccentric International Chefs, and trusting the experience she had had there, I made a cake tasting appointment right away. When my husband and I arrived, we were greeted by both of the bakery owners, Carl and his wife Melina. They were both very friendly, professional and accommodating as we discussed our design ideas and overall vision for the cake. I must admit, the tasting went very well. The cake slices were moist without being wet, the flavors were strong but not at all offensive and their buttercream frosting far surpassed that of Flour Power in our opinion. Their pricing was very reasonable and, after having such a thorough and pleasant consultation appointment, we were 100% confident that this was the bakery for us. We booked them on the spot. All was well until the day of our wedding. The cake was delivered on time and the flavors were correct, but when we saw the cake for the first time, the top tier was crooked and appeared that it had been dropped onto the second tier of the cake without much consideration. The design of the cake was not followed as we had agreed upon either, but what angered me most of all was that the two ends of the black satin ribbon that was applied to the middle tier of our cake met on the FRONT side of the cake where everyone could see the seam. It just seemed careless and thrown together. I'll be perfectly honest, the cake tasted HEAVENLY, so once it was cut into slices and served on plates to our guests, no one knew that anything was wrong at all. In fact, we got a lot of nice comments about the flavors of the cake. But my husband and I were disappointed that we didn't get a single photograph of our cake that we were pleased enough with to put into our wedding album. During our initial consultation, Carl and Melina offered us a free top tier for our one year anniversary, but we're undecided about whether or not we'd like to go back to Eccentric at all now. So today I go in there an I was greeted by a very pungent nasty sewery smell kinda gross but I still decided to get something i got 3 cookies and a slice of cake, the cookies were decent but the cake was very very dry and seemed old I only took a couple of bites of it but i am just going to throw the rest of it away I wasted a little over 3 dollars on the cake which I find a little expensive for such a small slice to. Walked in today to get something for the sweet tooth - Santee is NOT the place for discerning palate's so I should have known better. The place is not inviting on the inside at all, but I ignored the visual aspect and decided to let the tongue and stomach do the judging. Purchased an eclair, a lemon bar and 3 truffles. The eclair was revolting. The shell was dry, definitely OLD, the pastry cream was certainly not from scratch, greasy and flavorless. In the trash. Tried the lemon bar and it was worse. Crust was overcooked, thick, dry and the thin layer of too tart curd smeared on the top did not improve the situation. In the trash it went as well. I am afraid to try the truffles. read more

I told her I needed to feed 30+ people...only got about 15 servings. Total rip off. Oh BTW the filling was underwhelming, tasted like it came out of a jar. I called her the following week to give her a chance to redeem herself and to complain about the horrendous customer service we received and all she can say was I can give you store credit. From the tasting to the end we loved working with this bakery. The shop has such a family feel and you are so welcomed. I knew it was the right choice to go with them for our wedding cake needs. Everything was delicious. We ordered a three tier cake and cupcakes. We made a few changes throughout the process and it was so easy to do so. We wanted to try seasonal cupcake flavors and it was super easy to order and go in to pick up the flavors. I am so happy with how everything turned out. Our cake was BEAUTIFUL and the cupcakes looked great. I'm so sad that all I got to try was the piece my husband and I fed each other. Everyone loved it all so much there was NOTHING left and we even ordered more servings than the amount of guests we had. Family and friends tell me how delicious it was. Unfortunately, the day of our wedding we were terribly dissappointed with the design that showed up for our wedding. It looked nothing like the drawings we created from their book displays. It looked more like something I could have thrown together with a tube of icing from the store in about 10 minutes. I will say the cake underneath design tasted pretty good.
