I went to Angelo's for the first time last week after passing it a million times on Ridge road over the years. To be honest, it didn't disappoint. Service was great. Food was traditional Italian. Very much peasant food so if you are looking for high end Italian, Angelo's isn't your place. I would recommend the meatballs and sausage. The lobster oreganata was to die for. We usually eat family style so it's hard to remember everything we had. The spicy shrimp was so good, we had to ask for more bread to dip a little because we just couldn't get enough. Dined here July 20, 2018. Very quaint space. Shared the clams oreganata, manicotti with meatballs & tiramisu. Also had the red sangria (the taste wasn't the greatest). The bread arrived warm, and everything was delicious. The biggest complaint is that portions are small especially for the price point. The staff is friendly & quick. When it was mentioned that there was no fruit in the sangria, they were quick to put in some fruit and fill it back up to the top. There is just something about the shrimp scampi at Angelos in Lyndhurst, NJ that just makes my mouth water. I'm actually drooling now just thinking about those broiled crustations swimming in olive oil and garlic with the bread crumbs all over. I've been dining at Angelos since I moved to New Jersey in 1971 and this was always a special destination. No matter how many times I order this dish, I blow on the first shrimp to cool it off and plop it into my mouth and I still burn the upper palate. Can't wait to get it in and savor it. Had a lunch meeting at the restaurant, and so glad my clients office is a short walk from here (as he is a regular). Old school vibe and old school food. I had the shrimp scampi with a side of rigatoni with red sauce. Shrimp was served in a hot baking dish, sizzling hot, with a separate plate to eat on. It was cooked perfectly and the flavor was great. The pasta was cooked well and the sauce was simple and delicious. They also have a parking lot across the street, which made life so much easier. This place is a let down and aged. It's old school Italian with poorly made dishes. The wait staff was just as bad. My father and unlce asked for anchovies on their pasta and it didn't come. I ordered Fradiavolo and couldn't eat it because it was just filled with crushed red pepper and bland sauce. My brother had scampi and it was smothered in bread crumbs (less is more). Waiter barely came by with water until I asked after the 5th, then he didn't stop coming to the table. The he said he brought fresh coffee.....it was burnt and disgusting. Bottom line, for the over priced bland food, you might as well go enjoy Segovia's for the same priced food and better quality. read more

I started coming here a little over five years ago with my boyfriend's family. His parents have been going for the past 40 years and have now passed the tradition down to us. If there's one word that describes this place it's consistent. The menu is very simple, mostly red sauces, but wow is everything delicious. The sauce is the closest I've been able to get to homemade. The salads are always super fresh and crisp, and the appetizers are great (my favorite is the clams oreganata). The portions are also more than generous I always end up taking food home. They have a full bar and just recently started taking credit cards. If you're looking for a very traditional Italian meal, definitely check this place out! read more

Our waiter kept telling us he was busy and that is understandable but does not excuse a waiter who does not provide service. They brought bread to the table. A bottle of water and no glasses. Angelo god rest his soul passed on last year and the Candles that gave this place character according to the fire marshal can no longer burn in the center of the table so they now adorn the shelf along the back wall. As far as the rest everything is TOP NOTCH if not better than before.... From Barb at the front door to Dennis at the Bar to Franco & John handling your needs as servers 28 and 40 years serving here respectfully you simply can't go wrong at this local establishment. Shrimp Hot Sauce is still Unreal, while everything else remains as good as it gets With the don't miss Veal Parm and the really outstanding Shrimp Scampi / Ala Angelo which is the best thing on the menu. A don't miss if your even remotely close to the place. 3.75 stars. Old school NJ Italian. Gentleman servers in tuxes, speaking with accents, take good care of you. They know most of the patrons, as it's obvious many have been coming here for years. Decor is tasteful and reminds you of the Italian places you may have grown up with. White table cloths and linens are a nice touch. A lit candle graces each table. The menu is simple. The food is relatively simple in preparation and presentation, too. The food is good, though, priced at about $15 for pasta dishes. Portions are huge. This is really an Italian comfort food restaurant. Angelo's has a full bar, and it's a conversation and drinking bar - there are no TVs for you sports fans. Biggest ripoff in Lyndhurst. Angelo's used to be great. I used to come for both Value and old school service. No more. Don't know what happened. They have an elderly man hard of hearing to wait on you. I repeated no less than 4 or 5 times that I had come to eat dinner. Shocking, as it is a resto. The shrimp scampi is a greasy, nauseating mess. the entree order comes with only six medium sized overcooked shrimp that comes drowned in about half a pound of melted butter but somehow tastes dry, like it was defrosted. A side order of dry linguini was also absurdly overpriced. The only service is bread. My water was refilled exactly twice throughout my entire meal. I had to ask both times. I was afraid to tell the manager I didn't enjoy my meal. She looked so frail, telling her the truth may have put her into cardiac arrest, assuming she could hear me the first five times. I have had better food and service at diners. Try Cafe Italiano in Englewood Cliffs or Skylark Diner in Edison. read more

In an effort to try some new Italian Places we thought we'd see what Lyndhurst had to offer, and if it could rival its neighbors in Rutherford. I saw other favorable reviews and thought I'd try Angelo's, but our expectations were maybe to high. There is a parking lot and side street parking so at least that wasn't a problem. The restaurant was half full on a Friday night and the clientele seems a little more senior. The menu is very confusing as some entrees come with salad, some don't, some the suggest getting a side of pasta, other's don't mention it. So for instance Shrimp Scampi you'd expect to come with angel hair pasta, but upon clarification you just get shrimp 7 shrimp and have to pay extra for pasta. Then under the pasta you see Linguine Shrimp Scampi, and its like ok so what's the difference with this dish, come to learn that this dish only has 5 shrimp, comes with linguine, and you pay a dollar more. The restaurant does not serve chicken or fish, that I don't understand. Once we figured out the menu we settled on mozz n tomato and calamari appetizers. Both dishes were fine, no problem there. For entrees I had Ziti with a meat sauce, the pasta is not homemade and the meat sauce was lacking meat and the sauce I don't think was any different then what I was dipping my calamari in. For $16 pasta dish in a small italian restaurant I was expecting to be wowed, it cost them $2 tops to make this dish. My wife had eggplant parm with a side of Ziti. Her side dish was almost exactly the same size as my entrée, and it was $10 cheaper as a side. Her eggplant was mushy which likely means they freeze the eggplant and then defrost to cook (please tell me if I'm mistaken). I also tried some lemon veal which was actually pretty good, but it didn't have any vegetables or special touches to it at all. I was really disappointed, I expected a lot more and considering what you get, I'd say it was very expensive. I won't return again and wouldn't recommend to anyone. Go to the Risotto House a mile down the road instead. read more

Service and ambiance, 5. When you walk-in, you feel like you're in an authentic Italian restaurant. We began with a glass of Pinot Noir at the bar before our meal. The bartender and servers were dressed to the 9's, with tuxedos. The bar area is made of dark woods and creates an old-school type vibe. At the bar, they serve peanuts and gold fish. Other points to note: There is a coat check, if parking is limited on the street, they have additional parking on the side, and they do accept credit cards. We began with the shrimp and a biscuit. The red sauce made me think of home, and the shrimp were lightly breaded, which was a surprise, but it was a nice added touch. I did think the biscuit could be more flavorful, but anything in red sauce tastes good. For my main entree, I had the veal parm. It was very tasty and cooked well. Our meals also came with a house salad and oil-and-vinegar dressing. Presentation is simple. Overall, great place for a date. Loved the bar. Very nice and attentive staff. read more

I've known about this restaurant for years and years, and have always wanted to try it. The place looks VERY beautiful and inviting from the outside. So the opportunity presented itself, and my family made a reservation for 9 people on a weekday around 1pm for lunch. A very convenient parking lot right across the street. Very cozy interior décor as well. Well, I can't tell you how very surprised and disappointed I was after looking at the menu. Talk about boring. Spaghetti, meatballs, manicotti, veal, eggplant parm. I don't see what's so great about eating what your mom cooks every Sunday. And I don't eat meat, so I would have, at the very least, expected to be able to order pasta &broccoli w/garlic & oil. They didn't even have that. So I was forced to settle with the eggplant parm, and prayed there was no meat in the sauce. It was ok. The service on the other hand was terrible. Waiters were unwelcoming, angry looking, and unfriendly. We were all done eating except my uncle who was talking a lot & clearly taking his time. They began clearing the table (which is fine), but then took my uncle's food away, literally while fork in mouth. He was appalled, got up, and walked out. Clearly it was time to leave, so we asked for the check. Unfortunately our last 5 minutes in the restaurant was everyone emptying their wallets to scrape together some cash to pay the bill since they didn't except credit cards. No one in our group really complained about the quality of the food, but no one was raving either. I'm giving this restaurant 2 stars based on the positive reviews I've read on it being a traditional, authentic Italian restaurant. What I want to give it is a negative 5. read more

*GASP* they don't serve chicken!? I love Angelo's. My family has been going here for decades and we've never been disappointed. Very classic, old school decor. They don't serve any chicken dishes yet somehow my family and I have managed to keep our heads from exploding. I'm a huuuuuge fan of the veal parm, which I order with sauteed onions and cherry peppers on the side. Maybe it is me. I was just driving from Mahwah to Philly - trying to find a back way home with out going NJTP/Parkway... and drove by. Actually turned off on a side street after seeing Angelo's - Side streets were one way so it actually took me approx. 10 minutes to arrive in their parking lot. From the outside, inside, people, menu, table cloths, bow tie wait staff, etc. definitely my kind of place. Spoke to a patron outside before going in who said great things and recommended the Biscuit and Shrimp. It was jammed at 6:00pm on a Wednesday night. Everything good so far. Really nice people. The patron outside was a regular who introduced me to the Manager. Manager not thrilled to meet me, whatever. I hate writing reviews that are not good... but I was disappointed. Ordered Calamari App. Fired little rings with a side of Sauce (sweet - they offer sweet-mild-hot).. OK - sauce somewhat bland but salt/pepper/cheese fixed it somewhat. OK portion and told waiter I would take home... but decided later not to. Sauce or ventilation made me sweat. Must have been vent because I ordered sweet sauce. Ordered Biscuit and Shrimp (sweet) + side of pasta (mild). Medium shrimp and a biscuit covered in sauce. Huge Pasta covered in sauce. Could not tell difference between sweet and mild. Bland taste. Decided to finish and said wrap it up. Waiter brought check, I paid AMEX (thank god) ad said where was take home. He said I told him I didn't want it. I only ate 1/2 of the meal. He just walked away. I don't feel as though I will return. I have eaten many times in Italy. I have Italian in-laws, and yes this is a home cooked Italian meal. I guess I was expecting something more exciting. I am Mitigan, but make the Lasagne for Christmas (family raves) for the past 8 years. I wish the food was better. rest of ride home sucked too. read more

I discovered Angelo's on the internet. Went there for an early Saturday evening dinner before the reservation crowd. We arrived at 5:pm. Sat at the bar, only to learn Angelo's does not serve food at the bar. No big deal, there were plenty of tables available because it was still early. We ordered a bottle of Chianti and they also brought warm bread. Both were great. Then we split an order of manicotti as an appetizer. Came two on a plate with red sauce. The pasta was homemade and as soft and tender as the ricotta cheese filling. Next they served a family style bowl of salad, with olive oil and red wine vinegar as dressing. This was a nice refreshing salad. Then came the Veal Parmigiana, with the grilled onions/peppers on the side. The breaded veal was thin cut, moist and tender. And the onions, etc were an excellent topping to a delicious entrée. Topped off the meal with an espresso and tiramisu. The service at Angelo's is perfecto. Walking into Angelo's Restaurant is like stepping back in time. The bar, the bartender, the cozy booths, green lighting, and Italian waiters all add to the old school feel. When I came here, it was shortly after Hurricane Sandy had hit, and my parents were staying with me because we had no power back home in Sea Girt at the time. My dad's print shop had flooded and we were all a bit down so we decided, despite the gas shortage, to venture out for a pick me up. Angelo's was the perfect place to go. Usually I will only eat my mom's Italian cooking since no where else has ever come close in comparison, but Angelo's traditional Italian cuisine really hit the spot and made us all feel like we were at a home away from home during a time when we couldn't really go back there. This place is nothing shorty of spectacular. As with all heavily "yelped" establishments people review places based on false pretenses. This is not some hoity toity NY establishment. Instead it's one of the last of a dying breed of great Northern NJ italian restaurants. If you want good homestyle italian cooking then Angelo's is for you. We arrived around 5 o'clock on summer evening to find the place bustling. With 4 adults and a newborn in tow we were seated within seconds. Since my father in law is "from the neighborhood" and had dined there before he took the liberty of ordering some appetizers. The minute the food hit the table there was no doubt in my mind that I was in for a treat. As a family we sampled everything... the shrimp, the linguine, eggplant, veal, and finally mancotti with a side of meatballs. One thing was better than the next. The only thing I can think of that's even close would be a Sunday around our own kitchen table with the family. On our way out the woman at the door (let's call her Mrs. Angelo since she was obviously more than a hostess) glanced down at the baby and said "make sure you bring him back next year to for a coupla meatballs," and there's no doubt we will. No joke, this is some of the best Italian food I've ever had. The red sauce is to die for. I had the shrimp with biscuits with a side of spaghetti. The shrimp combined with the biscuit and the sauce was just delicious. I tried some of my girlfriend's manicotti and that was also fantastic. The meatballs were also very good. Something about the way they season it is just awesome. There was a wait on a Saturday night (to be expected) so we sat at the bar, bartenders and servers were all very attentive and friendly.
