Scalding-hot cappuccino and a digestif of amaretto... the only decent part of the night.
    Thomas A.

My parents adored this place decades ago but when I was a little runt I was more impressed with their wine-bottles-as-candle-holders-on-every-table than the actual food. (Nowadays those little works of art are lining the walls and not each table.) Cut to more modern times and this is the second time I brought my own family here now. (The first visit was a major disappointment... note to self: don't bother with their linguine with clam sauce ever again.) Welp. I stuck with seafood once again and... it was another swing and a miss. I went with what I assume is their 'signature dish' - "Scampi, Angelo" (how odd of a name, right?) - which consists of six shrimp, three slices of lemon, in a breadcrumb-olive oil sauce (think Clams Oreganata). Over $20 for just that. The Mrs. went with their flounder-and-cherry-tomatoes. It's just that at almost $30. One kid went with their steak (just shy of $40) that not only was it incorrectly cooked (the waiter knew and took it back to give it a blast in the broiler) but way too much fat. (That came with a basic salad and some steak fries on the side.) Another kid went with their sausage-and-steak-fries dish. He was probably the only one to kinda-sorta enjoy his meal. (Oddly this was the biggest portion of food and the cheapest, clocking in at under $20.) Our waiter and the staff were like helicopter parents that never seemed to leave but they were incredibly sweet and (too) attentive. By far the most expensive restaurant in town and a huge letdown after getting that check and wondering, "For... that?!" I'm thrilled that Angelo's has been going strong since Marco Polo first met Kublai Khan and hope it's still doing it's old-school-Sunday-gravy far into the future when we've colonized Mars but... me and the rest of the family said that was our last time visiting.

We went expecting an old-school italian restaurant and that is just what Angelo's is. Everything was perfect. The service, the atmosphere, the food, and the wine. Everything on the menu is an italian classic-no bells or whistles- but it was all delicious. My table got a lot to share so we were able to taste a lot of the menu, and nobody was dissappointed with a single item. It is hard to find a good meatball at a restaurant, but Angelos' were perfect. And the calamari we had may have been the best. The Scampi D'Angelo was the only item on the menu that included the restaurant's name and it lived up to the title. It comes in a sizzling boat of buttery breadcrumbs that are almost addicting. It's only been a day since our visit and Inalready want to go back! Definitely worth the trip.

Personally, this is the best of the best. I have been coming here for over 25 years. The best meatballs you will ever have in a restaurant. You CANNOT beat the Veal Milanese sautéed peppers and onions. The service is excellent, and the ambiance is wonderful. From start to finish, you will be extremely satisfied with this timeless classic in Lyndhurst.

Veal Milanese had no arugula salad. Just plain veal. Not as good as it used to be. Shrimp were good.

Where is there a menu online that is readable me? Facebook shows a blank page.

Thanks, Dona. We recently found out that Facebook has hidden our menu page due to one of its random design changes. But we added it back as a post and pinned it to the top of the posts. Also, this link should take you directly to the post that shows… Read more

Is there a parking? Lot? Valet?

We have our own parking lot directly behind the restaurant and additional parking on Friday evenings, and Saturdays and Sundays in the large parking lot at the other end of our block.

TLDR: a great Italian spot located in Lyndhurst serving affordable and fresh food. Highly recommend…read morecoming here for dinners, dates, events, etc. Came here on a Sunday night around 7 and it was busy. You could tell that this is THE spot for all the OG residents and you can tell that they are loyal to this place. I can see why as I was pleasantly surprised as to the quality of the food. The restaurant is very simple. It doesn't overwhelm you with too many decorations and really helps show how long it has been around. Not saying it dingy but saying that it shows its tenure in Lyndhurst (in a good way) Caesar salad: one order is big enough for two people. Salad is crisp, croutons are perfectly sized and dressing is light. You do not feel extremely thirsty or overwhelmed from the cheese here. 5/5 Calamari: although not crispy like other places (which is the way I like it) it was still very good. The calamari was fresh and not overly battered and it was a very generous portion. If you like your calamari extremely crispy, you will not like this place. If you like your calamari with a little batter, you will love this place: 4/5 Penne vodka: not to toot my own horn but I don't think their vodka sauce is as good as mine.... BUT still one of the better sauces I've had out at a restaurant. Once again, generous portions and fresh. 4/5 Filet mignon and shrimp (ordered medium rare): the filet mignon was extremely soft and tender. It came in an amazing gravy with a side of vegetables doused with a generous portion of garlic. I devoured everything, even the gravy and wished I had more. 5/5 Tiramisu: their tiramisu is on the sweeter side and you don't taste much coffee. If that's the way you like it, you will love it. I liked it regardless because it was on the house.

First visit was a few summers back and we absolutely loved it…read more "I think we found our new favorite place to keep coming back to!" (But time can be slippery and it took a bit longer than expected for a follow-up visit.) I'm happy to report that first time was not a fluke and this place IS worthy of putting into steady rotation*. (* - if money's not an issue) I'm boring - both visits I went with the (homemade) pasta specials and they were incredible. The Mrs. is equally boring and got the branzino each time. (And loved it both times.) One kid tried the (gulp, $60) steak special and kept raving about it. (Well, he wasn't keen on the zucchini but what teen really digs that veg, right?) The other kid loves bolognese and was happy with their version. A lovely small and warm restaurant. Limited menu with a handful of specials. It's not cheap. (A wee bit over $50 a person and we didn't get appetizers or dessert and only had sparkling water.) BYOB. (Limited) street parking. The host/owner - you won't find a more inviting and personable figure who is clearly proud of what he's created. Is a part of me tempted to dock a few stars because the owner was happy to see one of my kids wearing an AC Milan jersey the day before they were set to clash with my team, AS Roma? Of course! (But that match ended in a 1-1 draw so I'll be nice... this time!)

Service was excellent. The place itself is adorable and probably wonderful in the summer and spring…read morewith outside seating. The overall was good but missed the mark with a few things like the crab cakes were a bit fishy. Would give it a second try :) It's a byob.
