Originally we had reservations for a different place but we didn like the vibe and decided to walk in to Franco da Franco. I am so glad we did! The service was impeccable and the food was excellent. We started off with the tomato and mozzarella salad, calamari but my favorite was the beet salad. My friends got seafood, I opted out for the veal Marsala and it was delicious

Wonderful fine dining experience in bustling down town Montclair ! They have live jazz music on sundays which I personally love ! We went here for Mother's Day, I have a small baby which I took with me and we were late yet they were extremely accomodating ! Food is delicious I had the short rib and my husband had the salmon ! We also ordered cappuccino and lemon tiramisu which was delicious as well as espresso crème brûlée . It is a wonderful place great for brunch and a beautiful date spot as well I will def be coming back !

LOVE THIS RESTAURANT. Second time visiting and the food was just as good as the first time visiting. Ambiance is great for a date night or dinner with friends. They have a nice bar area. Staff is always friendly. On our second visit we met Peter the GM and he is simply fabulous! I want him to sit and have dinner with me haha. Great service, food is 5 stars and ambiance matches the great vibe. Do yourself a favor and make your reservation. You will not be disappointed!

The food and drinks were excellent here; it's rare that a pizza legitimately reminds me of my gastro adventures from studying abroad in Florence. If the service had risen to the occasion, this would have been close a five-star experience. It's a little disappointing that it didn't meet the mark, but it got close enough where the regrets were minimal if not non-existent. My top-tier chum and I came here around 12:30ish yesterday at the beginning of Montclair's inaugural Porchfest (which is NOT something I'd recommend at this juncture - very poorly organized and the website information wasn't completely accurate), in need of a refreshing cocktail and overall sustenance. As Montclair experts know, liquor licenses are not an automatic around these parts so options were limited but we secured some sunny outdoor seating easily and were ready to rock. We both played it relatively safe and each ordered the Reginella pie, which I can't recommend more. It's legitimately one of the best pizzas I've had in the area, an authentic Neapolitan pie where they drop the buffalo mozzy on it literally seconds before taking out of the oven. Just delicious. Both of us finished our pies minus a bite or two, which is more notable on my chum's end than mine - I'm an animal and finish most meals. I'm not actually seeing the cocktail I ordered on the online menu; it was the first item listed, started with a "P" and was tequila based with a lot of fruit-forward action. Very well done/mixed with excellent flavors. The only downside is that it's $20, which even by Montclair standards is pretty egregious. If this were $15 or $16, I probably don't hesitate to get a second one, but the cocktails shouldn't cost more than the entrees - a bridge too far for me. Still. A refreshing nip on a pleasant May afternoon. The service was very mediocre, which is unfortunate. My chum thought this might have been a weird homage almost to European culture, but since we WEREN'T actually at a street cafe in Naples, I don't know that that's remotely necessary, assuming that was the issue. We weren't on a schedule but it took about 20 minutes to get our cocktails and hailing down the waitress for anything was a process. It wasn't particularly busy while we were there so it wasn't clear why there were any noticeable delays, but any thoughts of ordering anything beyond our initial items was put to the side pretty quickly since it would have added probably half an hour to our stay. Disappointing and an unforced error in my view. I'd absolutely come back, but only with a full wallet and some time on my hands.

We celebrated my birthday at Fresco da Franco, and once again, it was perfect! I had the gnocchi, which was rich and comforting, while my girlfriend enjoyed her favorite--the red snapper--which she raves about every time. The atmosphere was warm, the service was top-notch, and it made for a truly special evening. We're never disappointed at Fresco da Franco!

The service was great! Not too slow and not too fast with the arrival of drinks, apps, dinner and dessert. The inside is romantic but can be noisy depending on the day and time you dine. Dim lighting with dark decor, romantic lighting. Food was not a five but very good. The focaccia bread basket is not good- they can easily improve that. The olive oil was tasteless. Meatball app was served with two; soft but a little garlicky. Served with a side of ricotta. Dinner - we had the gnocchi bolognese on the special menu and the brazino. Dessert- la bamba. Unique dessert with A little flame show. This was a round chocolate layer "bomb" cake.

I must say, we decided to go back to Fresco da Franco for our anniversary and we were blown away by not only the impeccable service (especially from Junior), but the food was incredible! From our perfectly curated drinks to our delightful appetizer (the zucchini blossoms are a must) to our dishes...we had to get dessert! The home made chocolate mousse was exactly what we needed! Just when we thought we were done giving this lovely date night spot a glowing review, they surprised us with a written thank you note & gave us both a complimentary drink on the house for our anniversary! If you want to have an intimate date night out with zero complaints-- you just have to visit Fresco da Franco!

We were looking for a place to have a lite bite and drinks. This was the perfect spot. It wasn't that packed for a Friday night. The appetizers were good. The drinks were even better. After 10:30 pm the back turns into a lounge on Fridays and Saturdays. The back is also linked to Bar Franco. They play music for all generations. I will be back to enjoy more of the Socialista Lounge.

Best chicken parm I have had in a while. The mozzarella cheese tasted like fresh mozzarella, super good quality and the tomato sauce was sweet but not too sweet, it's a really solid tomato sauce. My friend got the wild boar pasta and we shared both dishes. The pasta was huge as well and enough for 3 people to share. So much meat in it! Super soft and tender. A bit salty but I still really liked it. Both meals were like a warm comforting hug. Prices great for portion size. Would come back again!

From a food perspective, our meal initiated with a basket of some of the best rolls I had ever had. They were large, fluffy, and doughy with a hint of crispiness from a light toasting. We then shared the Veal and Beef Meatball, which was gigantic but still managed to have the ideal texture. It was also beautifully seasoned and served in what the chef called his "grandma's plum tomato sauce", which was divine! The sauce was thick and hearty, so when that was paired with pecorino cheese and basil oil, it really made for a fabulous dish. I even cut off a small piece to put inside my roll with a spoonful of sauce - chef's kiss! After that, we enjoyed some of the house-made pasta dishes, tasting each in a family-style format. The Squid Ink Bucatini was tossed with scallops, shrimp, and jumbo lump crab in a seafood tomato sauce. I did not love the briny finish to the sauce or that some of the scallops were chewy. The Tagliatelle with Duck Bolognese, tomatoes, and carrots was good, but I prefer my pomodoro sauce without the addition of a "light cream". Lastly, the special Spaghetti came with lobster, crab, and peas in vodka sauce. That one was definitely my favorite. While I do not love peas, the sauce was rich and flavorful. Across these last two dishes, I thought the pasta was a tad overcooked and could have been more al dente; the bucatini consistency was more inline with my preferences. Overall, I thought the food at Laboratorio Kitchen was above average, but that the service and atmosphere helped elevate the place. I would definitely consider going back to try some of their other dishes.

The service was nice, especially because even though we were the only table sitting outside, they were consistently coming out to make sure we were doing OK and had everything we needed. We ordered some garlic knots, which were good, it just seemed a little bit pricey to charge for the marinara sauce separately, which was not really outstanding nor something special, so I would recommend you skip it. We also ordered the chicken vodka Parm pie which was very good. The chicken was very crispy and the pizza was still delicious the next day when we had the leftovers. One of her friends is allergic to gluten, so it was very nice that they were able to accommodate for her. I do wanna point out that we have been to many places that offer gluten-free options and this is the first one I've been to that does charge you extra to make a gluten-free. In terms of price, it is very similar to the other places in Montclair but they do provide very good service and the ambience both outside and inside is very nice.

The calamari was by far the best. It was crispy and thick and seasoned well and the sauces were delicious. There were some fried onions in it that were flavorful too. The goat cheese was okay, it felt like the flavors did not all go together. The burrata was very fresh and the starter bread is great too. For dinner we got the pork shank which I think was a special, the mushroom ravioli, the eggplant pasta with red sauce and the branzino special with veggies and a sauce. The mushroom ravioli tasted a little like mush to me and I was not a fan of the mushroom flavor. The eggplant pasta was delicious and it came with burrata that melted nicely into the pasta. The pork shank was tender and delicious. The branzino was the star for sure, it was flavorful and delicate and paired well with the sauce and the veggies. For dessert we got the pistachio tartufo and the tiramisu. I didn't think the tiramisu was very special but it wasn't bad. The tartufo was okay. It tasted like a pistachio chocolate ball inside of pistachio ice cream. It was also incredibly small for the price. Our waiter was fantastic!!! It really just needed some salt or something. I also had the 14oz steak which was pretty good because it had some salt on it however the steak came out precut and did not look like a $58 steak. My friend hated both of her dishes. She had the burrata and the lasagna. She said they both lacked flavor. We walked past it 3 times and when we finally left they decided to shine a light with the logo on the floor. When walking in it's more of a lounge than a true restaurant so prepare for that. You will sit right next to people which isn't my preference but it was fine. We started off with the cucumber salad which was excellent. Just wish there was more cucumber than other veggies they put in it. We then got the Cacio e Pepe Gyoza which was the star of the show. It's was unbelievably good. We followed that up with the calamari which was also extremely good and finished our apps with the Chicken Bao buns that were delicious. My friend got the carbonara dinner and honestly I don't get all the hype. Honestly I thought it did not taste good at all. I had one bite and that was enough. I wasn't sure what it exactly was that made it unappetizing but it just wasn't great for the amount of hype social media gives it. The presentation was beautiful for pictures but the taste wasn't there at all. I had the Spicy Miso Ramen which was very tasty. Only problem was it was about 110 degrees in the restaurant which made hot ramen a lot less enjoyable. The beef that they also put in it didn't taste like much just a piece a beef so that was a little underwhelming. Service was very nice, it just seemed they struggled tending to each table consistently, not sure if they were short staffed or just extremely busy because it was a Friday night. Nonetheless everyone was super friendly and tending to our needs eventually. Overall, I'd say the appetizers were the star of the show. I thought all were delicious. Entrees were a little underwhelming though my ramen was delicious, it was just extremely hot in the restaurant for some reason. Staff were good and price was what I expected. Great place to try but probably won't go back. I shouldn't leave a place sweating after a date night. I think social media hypes the place up too much but it is good just not great. People who come here are worried more about posting on social media than getting great food that the price reflects.
