Went to Da Tino's and it was honestly really solid. Started with a clam dish in a lemongrass/lemon broth--light, fresh, not heavy. Then had a white pizza special with truffle, cheese, and mushrooms. Good flavor, not overdone. Got the carbonara with guanciale--probably my favorite. Simple and done right. Finished with the chicken parm, and it hit the spot. Crispy, good sauce, just a really solid version of a classic. The whole meal had a nice, slow pace to it,nothing rushed, just an easy, enjoyable dinner from start to finish. Location/Ambiance - When we first walked in after parking in the adjacent dead end (all lot spots were taken), we thought we were in the wrong place. The restaurant is a small space with oddly spaced tables. The music was great. Service - The usual. The waitress was attentive to our needs, fulfilling our orders off the menu, without much in the way of recommendations because "everything is seasonal" and "everything is good." Food - Really great. We got the calamari, Margarita pizza, cacio e pepe special pasta, and pasta with spicy vodka sauce. Everything was delicious. However, usually when the three of us order that much food at a NJ Italian restaurant, we have leftovers. Here, the portions were smaller, with nothing left to take home. Pricing - The menu prices were run of the mill for north Jersey. However, there were arbitrary price hikes of about $.70 added to all items when the bill came. Not a huge deal, but if they are squeezing every table for almost an extra dollar per item, that's quite a bit of unidentified charges they're taking in without the customer's knowledge. read more

What a gem!! The moment you walk in, the space grabs you. Sleek, modern floors with that glass like shine and a cozy, intimate layout that feels perfect for a date night. It has that NYC energy, just tucked right into Cedar Grove. The chef's talent really shows. We started with the burrata and fried calamari, both fresh and beautifully done. For my entrée, I had the special of the night: the osso bucco. Truly outstanding. The meat slid right off the bone, and the tiny spoon for the marrow? Loved that detail!! The spaghetti and meatballs held their own too. So comforting, rich and absolutely top tier Italian. The bolognese was just as impressive. Both the Chef Tino and the waitress were attentive, warm, and genuinely invested in our experience, which made the evening even better. I'm so rooting for this place. Two words . F@8ing amazing! Been dying to come here and glad I did. Everything we ate was fantastic Wanted to try the clams we had seen online many times and they didn't disappoint. Also had to try the Pizza Carbonara and Chef Tino came by to finish the cook on the egg on top was a great touch. This was a very intimate BYOB in the North End of Cedar Grove . I almost don't want to post because I'll add to the hype and this place will be a very hard reservation but I have to give them props. Again, great meal and everything we ate was awesome. All I can say is WOW! When the Chef asked how everything was I said 100 stars and I meant it. From beginning to end everything was top notch. This is a sleek modernized looking restaurant. Everything has a clean fresh look from the new epoxy floor,tables, plates, lighting, and painted black ceiling. The owners are hands on and take pride in the food they serve. The timing of the food was perfectly paced. We started with fried calamari which was crispy and light, and the fried goat cheese fritters which were tasty and light. We had the pasta with olives, basil, capers, and cheese and these ingredients were very complimentary of each other. We ordered a side of brussels sprouts that popped with the cut of bacon used in the preparation. We also ordered what we were told was the special 14oz NY strip steak that was topped with garlic butter, cracked pepper, and a sprig of rosemary. It was good but way overpriced. There wasn't bread for the tables either. For dessert we had the lemon truffles that were more like a cake pop than a true truffle but delicious nonetheless. Da Tino is recently opened, taken over a previous deli. The food was excellent. Pizza is made fresh and with fresh ingredients. Looked like a gas oven to me with automatic rotation so the pizza cooks evenly. The rice balls were among the best I've ever had although the description was a bit confusing as it described it as being in a broth but it was marina. The pasta rivals some of the best Italian places in the area (think La Rocco in Montclair). Pasta was al dente and amatriciana sauce was bright and flavorful. The bolognaise sauce was also good being lighter than other versions I've had. Chicken parm was also good on a bed of nicely cooked spaghetti. The best part of the parm was the crust. Service was attentive. Water was refilled without asking. Plates cleared. It's a small place with probably only four or five tables but the tables are spaced out which I appreciated. Dessert was homemade cannolis. It was a chocolate cream which was excellent. I'm not a huge cannoli fan but I enjoyed this version. So here is an update. My wife and I tried this place again. This time we brought a nice bottle of Chianti and sat down in a very, very simple decor. Forget the decor. We split the appetizer, crescentina (Bolognese) with arugula, burrata mozzarella (he made it) and San Danielle prosciutto. They are starting to make pizza so we decided to split a Margerita. WOW! We walked out not bloated, satisfied and pining to come back next week. We spent about $60 not including tip. Again. An value unheard of in the city. As a newbee from the city to Little Falls, I can not believe the quality of the food these two put out. It is on par with the city and way, way, way better priced. Had the opportunity to experience one of the best meals at Da Tino's in Cedar Grove, NJ. There was a special promotion "Girls Night Out" with a 4 course fixed price menu. Tino & Gina our hosts did not disappoint. The atmosphere was very warm and comforting enhanced by the service. There were 5 of us in our party and we did not want for anything ,during the entire meal from appetizer to dessert. We all started off with the Fritter with Goat Cheese. It was amazing! Fried lightly topped with Parmesan cheese and Arugula greens. Next was the salad course. A delicious strawberry salad with fresh greens and each of the flavors complement the other so well. They even have an herb garden inside where the chef Tino picked fresh basil to garnish a plate or two. The entree came 3 of us had pizza and the other two had pasta. I had the Rigatoni with a fresh marinara, with green olives and sausage. Very, Very good. I wanted to savor the dish so opted to bring leftovers home :) Finally dessert, fresh chocolate covered strawberries, a chocolate mousse covered in a chocolate cone of sorts. All presented on a board, though small packed an awesome burst of flavor. Cappuccino to top everything was the best.! Everything was absolutely delicious. I wish Tino and Gina all the best as they grow their business. Gina suggested that if we come back on the weekends Friday or Saturday to call and make a reservation because they have 6 tables. The wife and I had a busy day and we were hungry. Fast food seemed to be the choice until we passed by this place by chance on Stevens Avenue. We stopped in, looked at the choices and decided to give them a try with their special (breaded Pork tenderloin, diced potatoes and broccoli rabe) and an eggplant Parm that looked real good. When we sat down at home to a glass of wine and this food, we were floored. Real food, absolutely delicious and healthy. And the price was an incredible value for what we got. I've been eyeing this place for a while and finally had the chance to check it out and I'm glad I did! Solid neighborhood spot. They're still growing their business and have a lot of ideas in the pipeline. I saw some of the other reviews complaining about the sandwiches but I found no issue with the portion size and ratio. The sandwiches are slightly slimmer than some other Italian subs I've had but the bread was really delicious. Also - ratio is everything in a sandwich and the quality of ingredients speak for itself. Everything was seasoned tastefully as well. Sounds like some of the negative reviewers should just go to jersey mikes - nothing wrong with jersey mikes by the way - the businesses are just different! This is a gem of an Italian Deli. The quality of the imported italian meats and cheese is unmatched, and as close as you can get to the level found in Italy. I have also been introduced to different salamis and items I had never encountered before even when having visited Italy numerous times. The owner is incredibly knowledgeable. Da Tino has been my go-to deli since opening. The quality of the products there are unlike anything you'll find. My favorite is a standard Italian because of how perfectly sliced the meats are.
