Best pastries in the northland!! Old fashioned-home style twists, bismarcks, and long-johns. Love this place! Highly recommend.

First time visitors to Brule, and I have to say Twin Gables is definitely a reason for us to…read morereturn! Their breakfast was delicious. We went with a full order of biscuits and gravy as well as the country fried steak. Both were piping hot when they arrived at our table and had amazing flavor. Our waitress was really on top of things and it was great to see how thoroughly the tables were washed in between diners and the bathroom was exceptionally clean as well.

Great food, terrible service. We visited for dinner on a Friday night. We were seated right away…read morebut waited about 5-10 minutes for menus. They came and took our order fairly quickly and our food came quickly as well. Our waitress said she would be right back with drink refills. We did not get our refills and our waitress did not return to our table at all. Other waitresses could see we were waiting there and did nothing. We sat there for 40 minutes with no service. We had planned on getting pie for dessert, but had to scrap that plan. We finally got up to check out without a check. The cashier refused to check us out because we didn't have a ticket! We finally had to say that we sat there without service for 40 minutes and didn't get a check. Not sure that we'll be back. The food was really good, but the lack of service was unbelievable.

My family was looking to burn a little bit of time while visiting Ashland before we attended a…read morecommunity event and so we decided to check out main street to see what shops might interest in to look. Since we have German heritage in our blood, this little shop caught our eye. As you walk you, you are jettisoned into a little piece of German heritage and fun. European candies, specialized kitchen gadgets, Christmas decor, or just the kitschy German/European gift, this little shop packs it all in. It was fun showing my kids the Christmas decorations and explaining to them why we have them in our home. They were finally able to put two and two together of why I put up nutcrackers, smokers, and Christmas carousels as holiday decorations in our house. Now, you might be thinking that I missed out on the most important part - cookies and chocolate (its right in the name). We did sample each cookie and their homemade chocolate covered marzipan. Each selection was super tasty and you could tell they were baked fresh and with love (and real butter). They took my back to some of the cookies my German grandma used to make during Christmas time - pure nostalgia trip. We even picked some cookies up to bring back to my parents so that they could remember by grandmothers cookies as well. Nice to have ways to remind us of people who have moved on. Fun store to look and to purchase a little piece of Europe. Its almost like taking a short vacation... almost. =)
