It was my first time at this location. I was there to pick up a cater order. I was in a bind and they were able to accommodate a small pan with 24 hour notice. There was a wait when I arrived which was fine. The Gospel music playing was exactly what I needed on this good Sunday afternoon. The spot was inviting. The worker knew why I ordered the pan and she whispered to me Im so sorry for your loss. I lost it and she just held me. It was like the best auntie hug. People dont have to be nice and I told her just that. She said God is good and I want you to have a good day. I ordered me a catfish snack pack to go and it was so good. The fries were nice and hot. Figured out they were of neck bones after they took my order so have to wait 7-10 days for a refund for that. Blueberry cobbler was soft and tasty. Liver and onions came with two sides. Sweet beets were, well, sweet and savory and tasty overall. Corn muffin was kinda hard but flavorful. The liver and onions had zero onions at all. It was smothered in a flavorful gravy and overall good but would've been much better with some caramelized onions anywhere. The coleslaw was unexpectedly delicious. Soft lettuce and yet crunchy cabbage mixed created a fantastic texture and it had almost a creamy dressing to it with great flavor. Yum! It was cold outside but a freezer in the restaurant lol!!! Nothing really cozy or cute just some hard ass chairs and tables!! I had the baked chicken and dressing w/ greens and a vegetable platter yams rice and macaroni and cheese with kool aide. Everything was delicious portions size was decent. My friend had the smothered pork chop which he still talking about w/ macaroni and cheese and dressing with their ice tea. Food tasted room temperature and dressing was slightly hard. A taste as if food was sitting uncovered and not in heat pans for several hours. I was surprised to see the liver soaked in gravy and only ate a little bit. No plates- Styrofoam plates only. Restaurant was clean and good customer service. read more

This is actually my second time here. Excellent food. I got the fries whiting, greens and sweet potatoes and cornbread muffin. They make everything fresh, so you do have to wait about 15-20 minutes for your food. I'm so full. It's only 5pm and I'm ready to pass out! Food coma. I've been to this Restaurant before but didn't find anything on the menu worth getting, today was different. I decided to get the salmon Patties with my two Choice of sides being Mac & Cheese with their locally loved candied yams which the Person taking my order help persuade me to get. To touch on that, the service was great they showed love for the food they prepared for every customer willing to come into the establishment and spend their hard earned money. Before I touch on the atmosphere of the place I want to dive into my review on the food. First the Mac and Cheese don't hesitate to show a little more love back there while cooking it, second the yaams were pretty inconsistent (some were hard some were soft) but the the flavor and taste was great! Lastly the Salmon Patties were Crispy and had a great Crunch but same as the Mac could use some more TLC. So to fully wrap this place up in whole it could use some more Love and care and that goes from the seasons in the food to making the inside of the establishment more modern and updated. read more

In the 1960s my father had an office in the small strip of stores across Carnegie from where Angie's is located, and I would stop at Hot Sauce William's from time to time, so I watched the slow progress of converting the building into Angie's, but it was worth the wait. Angie's tore the building down to the bare walls and rebuilt everything back to get what is essentially a new building with the same footprint. Walking in I was surprised by the stylish rustic decor, including hanging wood doors cand really cool looking ceiling fans create a casual, welcoming, but classy feel, not at all what I expected. The menu boards are on the wall and you order at the window to the right; note that this location of Angie's is cash free, so you have to have a credit card or an electronic payment method. I selected the Catfish Dinner with Candied Yams and Mac and Cheese as the sides to go. Since they cook the fish fresh it took about 7 minutes, and the fish smelled so good that I almost had to eat it right there. The Catfish were two large fillets, perfectly breaded and fried so that the fish was moist and tender inside with a crunchy crust perfectly seasoned. The baked Mac and Cheese was very good, tender noodles in a mild cheesy sauce. The Yams were incredibly tender and sweet, it could have been desert. The corn muffin was also good. Angie's serves incredibly delicious soul food at reasonable prices and they have a really nice dining room. Being located in Midtown on Carnegie means it is a great place to get outstanding food when heading to downtown or to the East Side. read more

Food not so good, Collard greens were all stems, portion of the one item that I would rate good was macaroni and cheese was so small. Chicken was over fried and corn muffin was not fresh. Ordered bottle water and seal was broken. All orders are packaged as "take out". We ate in and it was a side show. Had to leave packaging on table cause no trash cans in dining area. No ambiance unless you want to keep looking at all the activity around you to make sure your purse wasn't grabbed. Waste of time and money. This place has been redeemed in my opinion. I have tried to do business here at least 4 times but they were always busy and slow. However, I went there Saturday afternoon and to my surprise, there was NO Wait for a call- in order. Once before when I did Door Dash, my order was canceled about 1.5 hours later. I was waiting and waiting. Yesterday, I had the best baked chicken and dressing, Mac n cheese , and greens. OMG. I wished I had ordered one for yesterday and one for today and the best part was they gave me a cup of cranberry sauce without me asking for it. The only drawback was a cold corn muffin that was not so good and it was refrigerator cold. I even enjoyed the peach cobbler! It was a very good balance of peaches to crust. We came from out of town on a vacation and decided to try the local soul food. All I can say is WOW, this place literally had the best mac and cheese I've ever had in my 56 years of life. It was magical! The fish sandwich was perfect, the cabbage (we don't usually even like cabbage) was awesome, the fried chicken was delicious, the green beans were perfect. We are 5 hours away from Cleveland and would literally drive back to Cleveland just to eat there again. AND the Peach Cobbler was out of this world delicious. The serving sizes were more than enough, and the folks were friendly and welcoming. So my first and most likely last time here. Called to pick up an order of the smothered pork chops, with sides collard greens, and Mac & cheese. Plus Apple cobbler- which they forgot to add, lucky I noticed before I left. The pork chops were good but didn't blow me away, the flavor of sauce was tasty, they were moist and you get two. The Mac & ch. was close to being very good, would have like them to be a little more cooked, that is my preference. The collard greens were not good which was highly disappointing. I love them as a side. Finally the cobbler again very disappointing, it was not bad and maybe doing it to-go didn't help. So as I implied I could be back to give them another shot, would try the fried chicken and other sides. But the reason for the 2 Stars was primarily driven by the fact not one employee had a mask on!! This is totally against present regulations and just plane stupid/disrespectful to customers. COVID is still around!!! Also 90% of the customers didn't have masks hanging inside waiting for their food. Not seating and eating but waiting for their pickup. On 09/20/22, I bought some beans and cornbread from this restaurant; the beans were thick and muddy and the cornbread was hard as a brick. Some kind of brown bean that wasn't listed on the menu cause I didn't want the black eye peas. I couldn't even eat any of it. Yuck! read more

What a disappointment. This place has rave reviews & my husband couldn't wait to try it. The cafe has a very limited menu, so we assumed each item would be fantastic. WRONG. However you like your french fries, I'm guessing it's not flop-over limp, cold, & truly inedible. They were out of catfish, but hub's 2nd choice of beef tips & rice was edible, bland, and absolutely nothing special. Maybe he should have gone w/ one of the chicken plates... though considering how awful everything else was, I don't think it would have made much difference. I got the salmon croquettes... they were nearly burnt, & even when I tried to eat the inside (leaving out the dreadfully overcooked crust) they were super bland, no special flavor at all. I did pack them up to give to my dogs ... then ended up throwing them away because my dogs deserve better. Seriously, I am not kidding at all. What a a waste. Good things: friendly staff, and the mac 'n' cheese. That was the one good food item out of our entire order. Real bits of cheese, not just some Velveeta nonsense, & nicely browned here & there as I like. That said, some good macaroni & cheese was hardly worth a $35-40 meal plus tip (yes we always tip, even though there was no table service) I have zero idea how this place has got great ratings. Umm, yes please. This was the most satisfying meal I've had in a long, long time. (I've been tending to my diet lately...) This is an "order at the counter" kind of place, but these lovely ladies will bring you your food. And let me tell you, they're sweeties! I ordered the tilapia, which came with two filets, breaded and fried in a cornmeal based breading. Yes! No fishy taste, very light, crunchy and flakey in the center. I tried pouring some hot sauce over 'em and they were even then they were good. The larger sized entrees come with two sides, so I ordered the green beans, mac n cheese and the collard greens. Yes, I got an extra side because I couldn't decide. The green beans were just eh, the mac'n cheese wasn't really my type. I like a rich, creamy sauce, not the baked kind. These noodles had seen better days, trust me. But for those of you who love baked mac, this would be right up your alley. But those collard greens? Oh man, those are good stuff. I know a lot of folks like them with more bacon-y, porky and salty taste, but these were perfect for me. I added them into each bite of tilapia. My dinning companions also ordered some luscious items for us to try. DO NOT skip on the oxtails. The order is small and they're a little pricey, but you'll thank me. These luscious, tender pieces of beef will make you swoon. Speaking of swooning, coming from a gal who literally hates yams, these bad boys were life-altering. As in, I know only like yams if they're from Angie's. It tastes like they're in this cinnamon-y, honey and brown sugar infused sauce... just trust me here. Even if you don't like sweets (like me) you'll think these are delicious. We didn't get to taste the corn bread, which I assumed came with every meal, but I suppose not. Oh well. This place is not what you think it is. I would even spend my money at this place if you want to try something new. This place is horrible with customer service and they guy who works at the one in warresville can't cook! Whoever made that food should be ashamed of themselves for doing that. The kool-aid was like a concentrated drink, that was horrible! I tried to support black business but I'm not going back here EVER!
