I definitely recommend the hot and spicy burger here. I don't think spicy is the best word for it, unless you have a low spice tolerance, but was still flavorful and delicious. Definitely more of a bar/pub scene. It felt kinda cramped inside. They had a decent amount of seating but definitely a place where you're really close to your neighbors. I think the staff was nice considering it was busy on a Saturday night. Didn't have any issues with parking in the area.

G Migs is a bar, but a bar with restaurant quality food. It has a nice patio area, great food specials each week, and drinks. The employees are friendly and attentive. It gets super busy when they are events in Valley Junction, but should not be overlooked as a nice lunch spot during the week.

I always love the wraps at this place, and the location is perfect in Valley Junction. It's a causal, low key place! My only wish is for the service to be a little more attentive.

Don't you just love a good down home Pastrami Sandwich that has delicious sautéed onions, a plethora of your favorite well seasoned meat on a freshly sauced bun? You can order up at MiG's and get their fast, cheerful and helpful service. As you enter this mainstay neighborhood Pub the vibe is one that is full of everyday people there for a quick lunch or to catch up on the neighborhood gossip while watching one of the large sports screens. I was in and out and totally enjoyed my flavorful Pastrami Sandwich with the jamming cold slaw!

4.25* (out of 5) Food: 5* Atmosphere: 3* Value: 4* Service: 5* 12/15/2023 Stopped again after attempting Happy Hour at a nearby restaurant that was already full. This place always seems to be packed and tonight was no different - around 5:30 on a Friday. We were able to get a table right away, but there were a number of people standing and waiting when we left. I always enjoy places with free popcorn and G. Migs had that - although it so salty, we couldn't each much. Once again, our meals were fantastic - each of us ordering one of the specials for the night as they were both highly recommended. My wife ordered the Shrimp Risotto (see picture & video) and I ordered the Prime Rib (see picture & video). The shrimp, prime rib and shrimp were all cooked to perfection, as was the asparagus. The dishes are a little pricey and you'll likely find yourself bumping elbows with the other patrons and staff, but the food is very good.

Exactly what I wanted. Bloody Mary, made with Zing Zang. Pub breakfast with fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy hashbrowns with a slice of American cheese, pub toast and the best thick slice bacon in Des Moines. Allison was a delight and didn't leave us waiting. Sat at the bar and got to watch George cooking each dish with care and skill. A Des Moines breakfast staple

I went with some friends to eat at G Mig's and the food served is typical average pub food. G Mig's is known for their Pride of Iowa Wrap and my friend's said it tastes better at the Iowa State Fair. G Mig's has a pub feel, and lots of people were hanging out.

Restaurants and bars are also about expectations, what type of bar and restaurant are you going to? And everyone is under staffed, so I always appreciate the service staff who are working. It's an interesting tavern with a small town local feel. I found out that they make a lot of their own meats. Such as pastrami and prime rib, I had a shaved prime rib sandwich when I was there it was excellent. Also make their own au ju. They also had some excellent craft beers on tap. The food was excellent and the staff was friendly and helpful and I look forward to coming again

One of a few restaurants on 5th St in Valley Junction. When you go in, just take a seat at a table and you will soon be waited on. I wanted to try the Pride of Iowa wrap and it didn't disappoint! I added clam chowder to my order because it was the Friday soup of the day and I might just have to go on Fridays from now on. Pro tip: the women's restroom has two side by side doorless stalls so remember to lock the hallway door!

This little spot in the Historic Valley Junction is very relaxed with a good selection of wine & beer. The breakfast was a bit greasy for my liking, however it was good and you get a lot for your buck!

Food is delicious (but portion sizes are very large) and pretty inexpensive. They have a ton of gluten free options (including wraps and buns, their gluten wraps have a very yellow color, gluten free and whiter (which feels backwards but I've eaten here for years)). Their service is on point and very timely and friendly, and the ambiance is like any pub-food place in Iowa. During game nights it can get really busy, and I'd say breakfast is their best meal, but it'd always a great place to come for food in your in the junction!

TL;DR - check to make sure your food is cooked before eating The (mostly) good part: I stopped in with my family for lunch on a subzero Saturday afternoon. The place was packed. Zero social distancing (that doesn't bother me, but it would most people). We ordered a steak sandwich, cheezy weezy bacon burger, a garlic cheese flatbread, and an order of chicken tenders for the youngest. The steak sandwich comes out loaded with cheese, peppers, onions, and mushrooms. The meat was cooked perfectly. The bread was nicely toasted and buttered. The pickle was ice cold. The choice of sides was a little weak. No fries? I took the bag of kettle chips. The meal was pretty great other than a lazy bag of chips. The burger came out great. The bacon was amazing my wife said. She and my daughter split it. My teenager took down the flatbread quickly. Now for the hard part. The tenders were really just six greasy nuggets. My son told me they tasted funny after the first one. I told him to use the sauce. He ate two more and told me he didn't want any more. I passed it off as him being picky and gave two to my daughter. She took one bite and said they were gross. My son said said "yeah, they made me feel funny." That set a flag off in my mind. I took a closer look. So gross! They were totally raw. We had plenty of food for the rest of us so we just shared meals with them. I waited for the staff to come back. Nobody returned until it was time to clear plates. Finally they came to clear plates. I informed the staff that the nuggets were raw. He informed the bartender who asked me if I wanted new ones and said she'd take it off the bill. I said "no, we don't need more nuggets. They ate them totally raw. I don't think they have appetite for more, but a discount would be nice.". They brought me a bill which included the checker tender meal. I waited for the wait staff to come back for the bill. I waited and waited. Finally the staff returned with a to-go meal of cooked nuggets. By now I was not impressed. I asked for the bill and she pointed at my ticket. I went up to the bar to pay because she left without taking my card. They took $5 off. $5? Unreal. Considering they fed my kids raw chicken and didn't wait on us, I expected some grace. I left the to-go meal at the table, tipped despite all of this and will likely never return. A few tips: 1) Offer better sides. The burger and the sandwich were really good but they were lonely on the plate. 2) If you sell chicken tenders, you can do better than raw nuggets. They looked like Tyson's nuggets that were fried on a grill. Gross. It really is the easiest thing to serve kids. 3) If you feed someone raw chicken, make it right. At least do what you said you were going to do and bring them a bill without the meal on the ticket.

We ended up quite impressed with the value and our server, Kelbe was fantastic - offering great suggestions off of the Happy Hour menu! Overall, this is a top-tier venue for your next Happy Hour trip (especially once they get the rooftop opened)! To share as much as we could about their Happy Hour, we sampled as many food dishes as we could comfortably eat, with all of them being solid options that we would order again. We started with a Margarita (see picture) and a Raspberry Mule (see picture) and while both were very good, it is hard to beat the value for the Margarita. For our food options, we tried all of the following shown in order of my preference (see pictures for each): Shrimp Street Tacos, Carne Asada Street Tacos, Wings (Tropical Habanero sauce), Lettuce Wraps and Buffalo Rangoons. A few comments to understand the priority order: I love street tacos, the wings were good but could have used a bit more sauce, the lettuce wraps were very good - but oh, so messy with the rice and just a bed of lettuce rather than a wrap and the rangoons were good, but a bit too overbrowned. I thought a generic flatbread pizza included up to 2 toppings. However, on closer inspection of the menu, adding toppings is more expensive than ordering a specialty pizza as a flatbread. Unbelievable! I was given a flatbread pizza that was as thin as a tortilla and had burnt corners along with 10 pieces of pepperoni and 8 banana peppers. I could've made my own flatbread pizza at home for a fraction of the cost, and it would've been way better quality. I still can't believe I had to pay $21 for this poor quality food. Even the waitress agreed it was ridiculous to be charged that much for this pizza. I will never eat here again. Expensive and poor quality - it's not worth your time.
