The waitresses did a great job of taking care of us and quickly brought our drinks. I love having Coke zero from the fountain! Sister had the brisket sandwich and said it was tasty, but that the sauce was a little too sweet. Next time she would order it on the side. I had a ham, turkey and bacon sandwich with the cheese sauce on the side. We both had chips which we hoped were homemade, but they were just a bag. It was more than enough for lunch. read more

We're from Kansas City and took a spontaneous day trip up to Des Moines on Saturday with zero plans or expectations--and we're so glad we happened into G Migs. What a fantastic surprise! From the moment we walked in, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Jake behind the bar absolutely stood out--great energy, excellent service, and clearly a bright future ahead of him. The owner, George, was also so much fun and made our group feel right at home. This place is a unique little gem with delicious food, great drinks, and that warm Midwestern atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. Wow. Totally forgot I had been here previously 2017 with a foul experience. Was here recently. Great experience! Menu much different. Much better. Had the tacos special and a few drinks. I definitely recommend the hot and spicy burger here. I don't think spicy is the best word for it, unless you have a low spice tolerance, but was still flavorful and delicious. Definitely more of a bar/pub scene. It felt kinda cramped inside. They had a decent amount of seating but definitely a place where you're really close to your neighbors. I think the staff was nice considering it was busy on a Saturday night. Didn't have any issues with parking in the area. read more

Migs had that - although it so salty, we couldn't each much. Once again, our meals were fantastic - each of us ordering one of the specials for the night as they were both highly recommended. Restaurants and bars are also about expectations, what type of bar and restaurant are you going to? And everyone is under staffed, so I always appreciate the service staff who are working. It's an interesting tavern with a small town local feel. I found out that they make a lot of their own meats. Such as pastrami and prime rib, I had a shaved prime rib sandwich when I was there it was excellent. Also make their own au ju. They also had some excellent craft beers on tap. Food is delicious (but portion sizes are very large) and pretty inexpensive. They have a ton of gluten free options (including wraps and buns, their gluten wraps have a very yellow color, gluten free and whiter (which feels backwards but I've eaten here for years)). Their service is on point and very timely and friendly, and the ambiance is like any pub-food place in Iowa. During game nights it can get really busy, and I'd say breakfast is their best meal, but it'd always a great place to come for food in your in the junction! read more

Birthday breakfast morning. Not too early a table of five we invaded the pub. Breakfast was on our minds. The menu was easy to navigate and I found making my own omelette was better fit for me. My husband got the meat lovers omelette. The service was a bit slow. The food was cooked well but seemed to take forever for 4 omelets and breakfast biscuits. The interior was a cozy set up. It's mostly high top tables for the bar. We were tucked towards the back. There were so many tvs. So many different shows playing all at the same time. After eating I took a trip to the ladies room. Two toilets in the same room with no door for the stalls...a little different. Lucky you can lock the main door. Also there is even a tiny tv in the bathroom. The building is overall clean and not what you would expect from a bar like establishment. I'm glad we got to try them. Maybe I'll be back and just ask for substitute of the carbs next time. My omelette was okay. It came with hash browns and toast. I should have asked for a substitute cause I don't really eat those. I got veggies and extra avocado on the side. TL;DR - check to make sure your food is cooked before eating The (mostly) good part: I stopped in with my family for lunch on a subzero Saturday afternoon. The place was packed. Zero social distancing (that doesn't bother me, but it would most people). We ordered a steak sandwich, cheezy weezy bacon burger, a garlic cheese flatbread, and an order of chicken tenders for the youngest. The steak sandwich comes out loaded with cheese, peppers, onions, and mushrooms. The meat was cooked perfectly. The bread was nicely toasted and buttered. The pickle was ice cold. The choice of sides was a little weak. No fries? I took the bag of kettle chips. The meal was pretty great other than a lazy bag of chips. The burger came out great. The bacon was amazing my wife said. She and my daughter split it. My teenager took down the flatbread quickly. Now for the hard part. The tenders were really just six greasy nuggets. My son told me they tasted funny after the first one. I told him to use the sauce. He ate two more and told me he didn't want any more. I passed it off as him being picky and gave two to my daughter. She took one bite and said they were gross. My son said said "yeah, they made me feel funny." That set a flag off in my mind. I took a closer look. So gross! They were totally raw. We had plenty of food for the rest of us so we just shared meals with them. I waited for the staff to come back. Nobody returned until it was time to clear plates. Finally they came to clear plates. I informed the staff that the nuggets were raw. He informed the bartender who asked me if I wanted new ones and said she'd take it off the bill. I said "no, we don't need more nuggets. They ate them totally raw. I don't think they have appetite for more, but a discount would be nice.". They brought me a bill which included the checker tender meal. I waited for the wait staff to come back for the bill. I waited and waited. Finally the staff returned with a to-go meal of cooked nuggets. By now I was not impressed. I asked for the bill and she pointed at my ticket. I went up to the bar to pay because she left without taking my card. They took $5 off. $5? Unreal. Considering they fed my kids raw chicken and didn't wait on us, I expected some grace. I left the to-go meal at the table, tipped despite all of this and will likely never return. A few tips: 1) Offer better sides. The burger and the sandwich were really good but they were lonely on the plate. 2) If you sell chicken tenders, you can do better than raw nuggets. They looked like Tyson's nuggets that were fried on a grill. Gross. It really is the easiest thing to serve kids. 3) If you feed someone raw chicken, make it right. At least do what you said you were going to do and bring them a bill without the meal on the ticket. read more

I ordered the croissant with bacon. I added cheese and onions on my hash browns. The onions were to die for, I love onions, next time I would order 3 times those onions. They were rings of onions though, not small peices. The food was just OK, i asked for a side of something to dip my sandwich in, I think I got the chipolte aoli. That really helped a lot. Service was pretty good. I had a mimosa and water to drink. This visit was not great nor was it horrible, this probably won't be a place that I frequent for breakfast. We heard about steak night at G migs and as avid steak eaters we HAD to try it. For $17, you get a 10 oz steak, potatoes, garlic bread, and a salad. Their steak was decent for the price and they cooked it to our liking (true medium). However, I would have to say the highlight of this meal were the mashed potatoes. They were so full of flavor! Also note that they have a limited menu on steak nights (just salads and appetizers). The place itself is similar to a dive bar. They also have two slot machines the back to keep you occupied while waiting for foods and drinks! Friends and I decided to eat here on St Patty's Day. We started with a round of beers and two appetizers. We were going to order a meal but decided against it after almost 2 hours we still had not received our food. We were served one round of drinks and ordered more but never got them. We asked 4 times for water. Once we finally received 1/2 of our order, the Nachos were delicious but didn't come with the salsa as advertised. The nachos were long gone by the time the waitress came back to check on us we asked for our food order four times. We decided to leave after more than 2 hours without our food.
