Came here for lunch with a friend- they had an awesome lunch special of a bun and a ramen for $15- I got a shrimp bun which was good - I don't think I would order again if it wasn't included in the special, maybe I'll try the pork next time. The spicy miso ramen is fantastic BUT you cannot get it without the umami bomb and the egg. Maybe you should even get 2 or 3 eggs. Maybe even more. They're amazing- I got my ramen with chicken instead of pork but the pork is very very tasty too. What an excellent lunch that I had here today! I was promptly seated and welcomed by my server. The decor is fun and lively. I ordered the Chef's Special Ramen with Pork and a Soft Boiled Egg. I also had a Yuzu Lemonade. The lemonade was delicious and refreshing, while not being cloyingly sweet. The ramen was fantastic! I judge ramen on the broth, and the broth did not disappoint. Chicken based with onion, garlic, ginger, and a ton of other flavors, the broth was so layered. The egg was jammy perfection. The pork was soft and unctuous and an absolute flavor bomb. The noodles were the right amount of chewy and bouncy. Some nice crunchy cabbage and scallions added more texture. My bowl was certainly empty. This is real deal ramen. After moving in Aug 2021, the Montclair location of Ani Ramen delivers exemplary ramen. My guest and I stopped by on Friday at 2:42 PM. They close from 3 to 4 PM, yet the hosts nevertheless graciously let us stay until our bowls were empty, around 3:20 PM. As I sampled the spicy miso, slowly savoring the rich broth, I was pushed into a contemplative mood. Should I eat the al dente noodles next, enjoying their chew and give? Or did I need the crisp scallions next, for more texture? I couldn't believe how many high schoolers were also there partaking of a late after-school lunch (...I assume), but fortunately it wasn't loud and rowdy in there. Last trip, it was too cold for me to leave my hotel to come here and try the ramen but this time, the weather is much better. Came directly from work and was excited to have some nice ramen. Left way too full...I always overestimate my stomach capacity. They unfortunately ran out of the Chef's Special so I went with the spicy miso. I don't know when to stop by again but I do want to try that Chef's Special. Overall, the spicy miso was good ramen...I didn't like the random cabbage in there though haha but I also got some nice garlic taste that I didn't expect (or am I tripping). The soup was flavorful and bold. The pork belly pieces were chunky, while I love the amount of meat, not sure how I feel about it in ramen. I think I prefer thinly sliced but not a big deal. 4/5 I was debating between chicken karaage and bao buns but luckily, the waiter suggested I try the karaage bao buns. Boom! 2 birds 1 stone. It was yummy! Not Taiwanese pork bun yummy (but I don't expect it to be that level), but yummy nonetheless. The buns were soft, the chicken crispy, and the sauce with pickles were perfect. Washed everything down with a yuzu lemonade. While a bit sweeter than I prefer, I added water as I drank and it was exactly what I needed. The place has a decent amount of seating and I saw plenty of takeout orders (though personally, ramen takeout orders make no sense to me). Maybe they want to save on the tip and what not. I've heard lots of great things about this place and always see it mentioned in random food recommendation articles, but never got around to trying it until now. Judging from past reviews, I thought going on a weekend was going to be impossible so opted for a weekday night and even on a Monday night at 6pm, the place was 80% full! Staff was nice and attentive and food came out quickly! We tried the pork belly bao buns, so tender and so much flavor. Though they are $9, it was really juicy and we would get it again! My husband and I tried the spicy miso and the shoyu ramen. I thought mine was good, broth was fine and my husband thought the same! They were good, but I think with all the hype I had heard about this place, I was maybe expecting more from the ramen. We have been coming to Ani Ramen for years now and sadly have seen the service of this restaurant decline. TLDR: The food on our last visit was ok, the atmosphere not good, and service horrible. Our night began by being seated immediately however we sat and waited for approximately 15 minutes for a server to approach us. It took so long that we began questioning if we were even noticed! My wife also had to ask two different servers for chopsticks, which STILL never came and I was forced to go to another table to grab the chopsticks sitting there. I also noticed another table who became frustrated about napkins and their requests for them who got up and went to the front of house to get some for their table. This may have been slightly understandable if the restaurant was busy, however it was fairly empty! The servers also seemed to be more interested in socializing than tending to tables. I ordered the seasonal short rib ramen and my wife the brothless ramen. We also ordered a salad and edamame as apps. Firstly the edamame never came out, had to request it twice and when it finally arrived I was half done with my ramen. My ramen was just ok, the noodles were not great very thin and seemed "off" from previous visits. The broth itself was very salty. My wife's brothless ramen was good however noted to me that she has watched the meat portions decline over the times we have been coming and was very dissapointed at what she received tonight. Finally the atmosphere, having been there many times before it was never a problem however tonight the music that was being played was extremely profane with language I'd NEVER expect to hear in a restaurant. I was very taken back. Now I'm not one to listen to "clean" music but I'd never expect to hear this in a restaurant in Montclair.....maybe I'm just getting old. Located along one of the main thoroughfares of Montclair, Ani Ramen of Montclair is a diamond of a find. The front exterior and where it nests amongst the other businesses presents a divey appearance, however, this appearance is uniquely part of the ramen glamour and experience if you are familiar with ramen houses in Japan. As you walk in, you will find the resounding orange and black brand colors along with the manga wallpaper a bit playful which creates a trendy atmosphere of inner-city vibes (although they don't want to admit it, Ani Ramen is secretly a SF and Bay supporter). This is just the dazzling stimuli to provoke your senses before your tastebuds become saturated by the flavor crystals of the food. There is a seasonal menu which offers a great selection, while the staple bowls are seemingly well put together. You cannot go wrong with the selections and sides to go along here. The noodles themselves are soft, but springy and bouncy which makes Ani Ramen so great. The management and staff are incredibly friendly, helpful and engaging. They were polite, professional, and humorous all at the same time. Definitely an added bonus to dining here. Finally got to try Ani Ramen, after adding it in my list months ago. Must say, they were up to the mark with their Ramen, both taste and presentation wise. When we arrived at 1 pm on a Saturday, the restaurant was fully packed, so they have waitlist via text. We got the call back within the ETA of 15 mins. The restaurant has some remarkable interior. Our server attended us right away and we got our order in within minutes. I started with the shrimp bao buns. Absolutely delicious! Probably better than their ramen. Great mix of the spicy sauce, cucumber and shrimp. I ordered the chef's special ramen with chicken and some spice. What came out was one of best looking ramen I have ever seen. Taste wise it's up there too, great combination of the chicken broth, spice, perfectly cooked soft boiled egg and vegetables. I was little disappointed with the chicken, as the grilled skin got hard from sitting in the soup. I am giving an updated review of Ani. The last time I gave a review I gave Ani 4 stars, and I'm happy to give them five stars now. My favorite thing to get here are the Tofu Bao, it is absolutely delicious, and I could eat them everyday if given the option. I usually get the Spicy Miso Ramen with Tofu and I add Enoki. It was perfect this time. I couldn't finish the ramen, and I took it home and very much enjoyed the leftovers. Service was impeccable. I highly recommend going during a weekday right when they open if you don't want to deal with the crowds. They are BYOB, so feel free to bring what you want. Staff and management are extremely receptive to feedback. My only critique is that it is a bit expensive for lunch, but I did get leftovers so I shouldn't complain. Ramen runs around $16 + depending on what you add and Bao is $9. I really enjoy their atmosphere. Great spot for a date, friends, or even to go alone. read more

Once you step in you know you are about to experience a clean, modern, trendy restaurant. Greeted right away we were sat quickly mid day on a weekday. It got a little busy at 12:30 with lunch seekers. The crowd was mature. The appetizer special was some sort of spicy tuna (apologies I'm finally getting around to writing this and forgot it's name- see pic). It left me wanting more. The explosion of flavors and the crispy crunch to it was phenomenal. I do not eat pork and thought all ramen places used a pork base - to my surprise they used a beef base here! Came here for the lunch special (bowl of ramen + any bun for $15). For the price, I can't complain. However, the service and food itself left a lot to be desired. Ramen normally comes out pretty quickly, because the noodles don't need to cook long and the broths are already prepared. Regardless, our food took 30+ min to come out. The food itself was EXTREMELY salty. I was dying of thirst the rest of the day and so was my husband. The noodles were also really thick for ramen, closer to spaghetti thickness. Texture of the noodles wasn't bad though. We got the chicken bun, which had good flavor but it wasn't crispy, sadly it was quite soggy. Overall, I would not go back unless all of my friends insisted on going there for lunch. I would definitely not get ramen there at regular 'non-special' pricing. read more

Came here for the first time on a weeknight. Luckily there was no line and they do not take reservations. Since I was a party of one I was seated immediately. Menu is great with lots of options and various ways to customize any of your orders. It was great to see more than just Ramen on the menu so there are appetizers as well as side dishes like rice and baos. For an appetizer I had the chicken Karaage and it was OK. Probably needed a second fry as well as a better coating. The Ramen was incredible and I ordered extra pork belly on the side. What helps to make us incredible is that the soup is not overly oily and you cannot see puddles of oil. Further the noodles come from my favorite noodle shop Sun noodle which is originally from Hawaii. However I believe these noodles are made in Brooklyn. My waitress was super friendly very nice and ultra patient which always helps. The place is super loud with very modern rap hip-hop music blasting. The space is very dark as well which I guess sets the mood. Since I've visited here because I was in town purely for a business I would definitely come back again as I do find it hard to locate authentic Asian cuisine. read more

All I ever hear is amazing things about Ani Ramen! Started out with the soy glazed chicken bao buns & then I got the Chef's special ramen with pork. Let me just say....some of the best food I've had. The bao buns were literally mind blowing. The chicken, the flavor, the toppings and the bun itself. Insanely good. And then the ramen was super unique too & tasted remarkable. The noodles were amazing and the broth was outstanding (not to mention the pork literally melted in your mouth.) We also got some kimchi on the side as well that tasted awesome! My other half and my friends love this place. First off, the service is wonderful and consistent. The staff are kind, courteous, polite, and always helpful with recommendations. The space itself is hip and fun. When our to dinner, the atmosphere certainly makes a difference. It is also clean and well-kept. It can get busy, so plan accordingly. We usually utilize the nearby parking deck and take a short stroll. I LOVE the miso wings, as they are simply wonderful. They are crispy and delicious. This is a great appetizer. I've been here previously for take out, where I got a regular bowl of ramen. It was just okay, but I assume some of it was due to the fact that I ordered it for take out. They were also extremely busy and I had to wait a bit past my order time to pick up my food ( a little inconvenient considering they are on the very busy Bloomfield Ave ) Recently, I was able to eat in with some friends to catch up. We went for lunch on a Saturday and there was no wait which was great. Service was pretty fast and they staff was kind. I ordered the mazemen style ramen to give it a try since I was not in the mood for somethign soupy. The taste was good, but something about it made me wish there was more to it. Highly unimpressed. I ordered the vegan ramen with panko shrimp. There is no flavor yet it is incredibly SALTY, no spice although I selected spice, the green cabbage is incredibly crunchy. The mushrooms are severely over cooked. The noodles are more like lo mein than ramen. Totally not worth the hype. read more
