Came here on a Tuesday night with some friends. The restaurant was very empty, but they did have a lot of takeout orders ready. We were able to be seated right away and the person who greeted us was incredibly kind to us. The restaurant is fairly spacious. They have lots of tables and some booths. As we were looking through their very large menu to the side, what to order, the waiter brought an appetizer on the house, which I believe was some kind of tempura fish, which was pretty good! We ordered four rolls and one miso soup. I do have to say that other places give you the miso soup when you order more than one roll, so it was different that we had to order it separately and pay for it separately, but I understand that restaurants are different. We got the Montclair, the Caldwell, the salmon avocado, and their Hawaiian roll. The one that truly stood out to me was the Hawaiian roll, it had kiwi and mango on top which made for a delicious combination and very refreshing. The other three rolls were OK, nothing outstanding. That miso was a bit sweet, which was different for me. At the end of our meal, they gave us orange slices and they were actually delicious! It was a cute surprise and truly showed the vibe of the people who run this place. Overall, the bill came around $50ish which was incredibly cheap for all four rolls and the soup. No, but you get a friendly staff , great selection of apps and rolls, some unique menu items like sushi pizza and fried banana on sushi (digimon roll), but the number one selling point for me is the prive point. 5 stars -- A fantastic sushi spot that's become a new favorite! I had such a great experience at Nori Sushi. The food is absolutely delicious -- fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The sushi boats, in particular, are stunning -- they look like edible art, and the taste lives up to the presentation. For the quality, the prices are surprisingly reasonable. The service really stood out. Every staff member we interacted with was warm, attentive, and kind. They were especially sweet to the kids, which made the whole experience even better. Nori is such a delicious restaurant and is my personal favorite sushi spot anywhere. The inside of the restaurant looks so cool and the decorations on the roof look beautiful. In this day and age, I wouldn't recommend impulsively going somewhere for sushi - this was our third stop in a frenetic 15-minute period of walking up to the doors of restaurants only to realize they were only processing to-go orders. In my experience, most sushi establishments are still super skittery about COVID, and the chances that the place you pick has sit-down dining right now is pretty much a coinflip. That's on us though - we were naughty and didn't do basic due diligence beforehand. My chum and I had lunch here yesterday. It's a spot we've been to before (notably after an unsettling Nocturnal Animals screening a few years ago that led to some animated conversation about Amy Adams over some edamame) for both sit-down and take-out, and it's been a solid, reliable destination. My go-to sushi restaurant for special rolls is Kenko Sushi in Lincoln Park, so it's a little unusual for me to venture beyond my comfort zone in that regard. We both usually end up going down the rabbit hole of exotic/special rolls, and this adventure was no exception. I went with the Godzilla Roll and the Verona Roll (both $11.50). They were both very good, though the winner by a slight margin was probably the Godzilla Roll - I have a weakness for the fried ones, and I find that they hold together much more easily than "regular" rolls, which is helpful when the pieces require two bites instead of one. The Verona is solid - my chum got a Titanic Roll, which looked exactly the same from the outside but had shrimp instead of salmon within the roll. Was any of this mind-blowing, astounding sushi that I'd go out of my way to sample? No, but I don't think it needs to be anything more than a place you're comfortable popping into from time to time. The service was very good on the whole. Our food came out pretty quickly, and it seemed like they had some takeout orders to juggle simultaneously as well. The waitress was a little overaggressive in bussing our table and grabbing the check; I literally still had a final bite of sushi in my mouth when she swooped in to take the plate from under me. And after giving us the bill, she came back about a minute and half later to grab it and we had to quickly tell her that we hadn't even opened it to put payment in. It was pretty empty in there too, so it wasn't an issue of needing to turn over the tables. But honestly? I'd rather have too much service than too little these days. I tend to think of Montclair as a pretty overrated food town, but Nori is a solid contributor that provides a decent counterargument. read more

Used to love this place--it was my go-to even though there are sushi bars closer to my house. Went there recently for lunch, early in the lunch-time window (11:30-ish). My friend and I were the only two customers for a while, and it never got crowded even later on. My bento sushi "lunch" included soup and, of course, hot tea. The soup arrived at our table more or less at room temperature; I had to send it back for another pass through the microwave. Second time: slightly warmer, but still not hot. Moving on...ordered hot tea. ALSO room temperature. ALSO sent back for re-heating. This is TEA and SOUP, folks! Lunch bento included a few cooked pieces (3 tempura shrimp, a few shumai). Guess what--ALSO lukewarm-to-cold. Let me tell you: deep-fried-anything served cold is pretty nasty. I can't figure out what has happened to this stalwart venue, but whatever it is, I'll wait to hear about it, because I am not likely to return anytime soon. Montclair loves sushi--I know of at least 4 or 5 other places 2 minutes away. And that's where I 'll be going from now on. Terribly disappointing. read more

Very authentic feeling of Japanese inside. Very friendly staff too. Prices were kinda high but I assume because of COVID and inflation. Chicken teriyaki came out sizzling on top of onions. Tasted great but the noodles were not so good. You can get rice instead but I choose noodles. My fiancee got #3 roll and angel roll. She said the angel roll was amazing but the number 3 roll was alright. Very difficult and messy to eat the number 3 roll too. This is probably one of the best sushi places I've been too. They have lots of vegetarian options! The place has a nice Japanese feel. It also has ample parking in the back. It's byob and there's a wine store literally 1 block away. As for what we got. Unfortunately they don't have the lunch menu on the weekends but that is no where written in there menu. We got the vegetarian tempura. It came with different fried vegetables like broccoli, mushroom and onion. It was ok. We ordered 4 rolls and I will present them in order of my favorite. The mango potato was the best. I loved the sauce and the texture of the fried sweet potato. Next was the pineapple. I loved the sweetness without any needed added sauce to top it. Then was the bugs bunny. It has lots of veggies and a nice Chipotle sauce on top. My least favorite was the Nori jade. I felt the Avocado was too mushy. What this place lacks in ambiance, it makes up for in taste and quality. The location is relatively small, but comfortable - Ocha across the street gets more visual attention and looks newer and flashier. But this place has been around forever and does a great takeout business as well. Pretty traditional sushi; nothing crazy and not a lot new. But the food is consistently good and they actually get the fish to rice ratio correct, which a lot of places don't. read more

The chicken lettuce wraps were horrific -- small pieces of chicken in bland sauce with straight up, obviously frozen peas and carrot veggies. Like it was a toddler meal. The Tom yum soup was just broth, no flavor, with off tasting seafood. Sushi was very mediocre but compared to all the other horrible selections we made, it was the best of the bunch. Ahh this place is great! Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. The food was really great; very fresh. They also had a TON of veggie rolls and options. We tried 5 or 6 different vegetarian rolls and they were all delicious. And there was still a bunch more to try! The shop is small but doesn't feel claustrophobic; we sat in the corner and did not feel crowded by the other diners. The prices are very fair as well. Will definitely be back! read more

I was in a hibachi mood and instead of going my normal route of ordering sushi, I ordered the Chicken Hibachi Dinner. The Chicken Hibachi Dinner (25$) included miso soup and salad. The dish comes with your standard chicken and vegetables as you would expect as well as white rice. Unfortunately, the chicken was pretty underwhelming in terms of flavor and the sauce didn't help it. At that price point, the expectations are predictably higher and it just never felt like the food lived up to them. You could find better value elsewhere. All in all, I wouldn't rush back to Nori to try their hibachi. The price point for me didn't match the quality I was expecting and ultimately felt disappointed with this particular experience. read more

This is a great Japanese restaurant in the beautiful town of Montclair. There are so many options it is difficult to choose--from sushi to thai options to hibachi options, you can't go wrong! I had the scallops hibachi with fried rice. The veggies were juicy, the scallops were large and cooked perfectly. The seasoning was generous and not overpowering. The service was great too. I've been coming to Nori for a while now and it always hit the spot for a sushi craving. Out of all there's of the Nori's in the area, this is by far my favorite. It has the best atmosphere and I think the quality of the food is better in comparison. As far as the food goes, it's always fresh. I never have any doubt about the quality of the food I'm eating. I think it's a little on the expensive side, but most sushi restaurants are in my opinion. It is also a BYOB which is a plus. The sushi pizza is wonderful. Highly recommend trying it as an appetizer. They have a huge list of rolls, something for everyone. The service here leaves something to be desired. They aren't very attentive. They take q while to even acknowledge that you've sat down. This sushi is actually amazing! Personally, I'm not very much of a sushi eater myself. I stick to the vegetarian rolls, and I have to say that they blew me away. I am craving them! The Nori Jade Roll really outdid itself, and the fact that it was topped with mango was truly unique. I tried a shrimp tempura roll for the first time as well, and I loved that! My boyfriend however, is a big sushi fan. He truly loved all the rolls he tried! Everything was incredibly fresh. The service is okay, we occasionally felt rushed but they were polite. Unfortunately it has become an issue whereby they cannot consistently deliver the correct order. I order from here typically every 2 weeks for my entire family and I would say that half the time they either get the order wrong or their "driver forgets to deliver a bag". Sadly, they struck out and managed to accomplish both this last time; not delivering a complete order and even after a second delivery got the order wrong. We got sushi from here from Uber eats and it came really quickly and well packaged. I ordered two vegetarian rolls- sweet potato and asparagus. While they were good, it wasn't my favorite. Other places in the neighborhood will add some seasoning, etc to rolls that are otherwise plain like the asparagus. That being said, the fried sweet potato one was delicious. I wish the menu also explained what was in some of the rolls. I checked their online menu and didn't see. I read some good reviews about the bugs bunny roll but I couldn't figure out what was in it. Oddly, I also love the ginger that comes with sushi and i wish the one we got from here packed a bigger punch.
