5 stars -- A fantastic sushi spot that's become a new favorite! I had such a great experience at Nori Sushi. The food is absolutely delicious -- fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The sushi boats, in particular, are stunning -- they look like edible art, and the taste lives up to the presentation. For the quality, the prices are surprisingly reasonable. The service really stood out. Every staff member we interacted with was warm, attentive, and kind. They were especially sweet to the kids, which made the whole experience even better. It's definitely a kid-friendly place -- the staff goes out of their way to make little ones feel welcome. We are a group of 6 people and everyone of us had a good time here. The food came out pretty quickly too -- we didn't feel rushed, but we also didn't have to wait long. The restaurant itself is very clean, with a cozy and relaxed atmosphere. Great for a casual dinner or a special night out. Bonus points for the convenient parking -- there's a big lot behind the restaurant with both paid and free spaces available. If you're a sushi lover (or even if you're just sushi-curious), I highly recommend giving Nori a try. We'll definitely be back soon!

Visited this restaurant for a quick lunch . The sushi is fresh and the avocado salad is very good. Prices for the sushi rolls are decent . Parking : street parking and small parking lot in the rear of the restaurant

In this day and age, I wouldn't recommend impulsively going somewhere for sushi - this was our third stop in a frenetic 15-minute period of walking up to the doors of restaurants only to realize they were only processing to-go orders. In my experience, most sushi establishments are still super skittery about COVID, and the chances that the place you pick has sit-down dining right now is pretty much a coinflip. That's on us though - we were naughty and didn't do basic due diligence beforehand. My chum and I had lunch here yesterday. It's a spot we've been to before (notably after an unsettling Nocturnal Animals screening a few years ago that led to some animated conversation about Amy Adams over some edamame) for both sit-down and take-out, and it's been a solid, reliable destination. My go-to sushi restaurant for special rolls is Kenko Sushi in Lincoln Park, so it's a little unusual for me to venture beyond my comfort zone in that regard. We both usually end up going down the rabbit hole of exotic/special rolls, and this adventure was no exception. I went with the Godzilla Roll and the Verona Roll (both $11.50). They were both very good, though the winner by a slight margin was probably the Godzilla Roll - I have a weakness for the fried ones, and I find that they hold together much more easily than "regular" rolls, which is helpful when the pieces require two bites instead of one. The Verona is solid - my chum got a Titanic Roll, which looked exactly the same from the outside but had shrimp instead of salmon within the roll. Was any of this mind-blowing, astounding sushi that I'd go out of my way to sample? No, but I don't think it needs to be anything more than a place you're comfortable popping into from time to time. The service was very good on the whole. Our food came out pretty quickly, and it seemed like they had some takeout orders to juggle simultaneously as well. The waitress was a little overaggressive in bussing our table and grabbing the check; I literally still had a final bite of sushi in my mouth when she swooped in to take the plate from under me. And after giving us the bill, she came back about a minute and half later to grab it and we had to quickly tell her that we hadn't even opened it to put payment in. It was pretty empty in there too, so it wasn't an issue of needing to turn over the tables. But honestly? I'd rather have too much service than too little these days. I tend to think of Montclair as a pretty overrated food town, but Nori is a solid contributor that provides a decent counterargument.

Had a wonderful lunch here today! Service was great and the food was delicious! One of our friends can't eat raw fish, but there were many other hot foods options as well as cooked/vegetarian rolls. All the rolls were so yummy! We will be back soon~

Very authentic feeling of Japanese inside. Very friendly staff too. Prices were kinda high but I assume because of COVID and inflation. Chicken teriyaki came out sizzling on top of onions. Tasted great but the noodles were not so good. You can get rice instead but I choose noodles. My fiancee got #3 roll and angel roll. She said the angel roll was amazing but the number 3 roll was alright. Very difficult and messy to eat the number 3 roll too. The waiter even offered me a fork with my meal which is a plus since I am very bad with chop sticks.

    Super Boat

Great dinner experience at Nori in Montclair! We ordered a super boat, as well as fried noodles and fried rice. The super boat took a long time to prepare, a little over an hour, but we were informed of that upon ordering. It was worth the wait. Delicious sushi! Nori is also byob

This is probably one of the best sushi places I've been too. They have lots of vegetarian options! The place has a nice Japanese feel. It also has ample parking in the back. It's byob and there's a wine store literally 1 block away. As for what we got. Unfortunately they don't have the lunch menu on the weekends but that is no where written in there menu. We got the vegetarian tempura. It came with different fried vegetables like broccoli, mushroom and onion. It was ok. We ordered 4 rolls and I will present them in order of my favorite. The mango potato was the best. I loved the sauce and the texture of the fried sweet potato. Next was the pineapple. I loved the sweetness without any needed added sauce to top it. Then was the bugs bunny. It has lots of veggies and a nice Chipotle sauce on top. My least favorite was the Nori jade. I felt the Avocado was too mushy. The service was good but I felt it could have been a little better being that there were only 2 other tables being served.

This restaurant is located on a corner with metered parking right in the back. Plenty of seating, sushi is made to order and you can visibly see the kitchen. We ordered the rock shrimp and it was really good. The gyoza was also flavorful. All of our rolls were good! We will def Return. This is a BYOB.

Stopped in for lunch today, the restaurant was so cute. Not many people inside so the service was very quick and friendly. The sushi was excellent!

My $48 kaisen don undoubtedly has premium ingredients but at least include more sushi rice so that I'm left satisfied. Maybe I'm biased because I commute into Manhattan for work and I know I can find similar quality for a cheaper price or larger portion sizes. I'm giving this 4 stars because I understand that similar options are more limited in the suburbs. This is a nice place for special occasions and the quality here is great but just know that you are paying a premium.

Most of the appetizers were overly sauced and too sweet. Steaks were just okay. Nothing to write home about. Got the Tomahawk, Porterhouse, and prime rib. It was just okay. No huge complaints nor compliments. Just average. Desserts were another major disappointment. We ordered every item. You know it's not great when everyone's favorite dessert was the vanilla ice cream which was clearly just store bought vanilla ice cream . Service was inconsistent. They were too concerned about clearing the table to the point they kept coming and trying to clear the table while we were eating. Then they would continue to bother us trying to take our dishes away. Relax! It wasn't like the restaurant was so full they had to clear our table for the next diners. Anyway a very disappointing experience overall.

The fillings come out on flat sticks in a wooden holder (kinda like a taco stand), and you get boxes of nori (seaweed sheets) on the side. You slide the filling onto the seaweed yourself and eat it right away, so everything stays nice and crisp. It's a little DIY, but in a good way. We walked past it 3 times and when we finally left they decided to shine a light with the logo on the floor. When walking in it's more of a lounge than a true restaurant so prepare for that. You will sit right next to people which isn't my preference but it was fine. We started off with the cucumber salad which was excellent. Just wish there was more cucumber than other veggies they put in it. We then got the Cacio e Pepe Gyoza which was the star of the show. It's was unbelievably good. We followed that up with the calamari which was also extremely good and finished our apps with the Chicken Bao buns that were delicious. My friend got the carbonara dinner and honestly I don't get all the hype. Honestly I thought it did not taste good at all. I had one bite and that was enough. I wasn't sure what it exactly was that made it unappetizing but it just wasn't great for the amount of hype social media gives it. The presentation was beautiful for pictures but the taste wasn't there at all. I had the Spicy Miso Ramen which was very tasty. Only problem was it was about 110 degrees in the restaurant which made hot ramen a lot less enjoyable. The beef that they also put in it didn't taste like much just a piece a beef so that was a little underwhelming. Service was very nice, it just seemed they struggled tending to each table consistently, not sure if they were short staffed or just extremely busy because it was a Friday night. Nonetheless everyone was super friendly and tending to our needs eventually. Overall, I'd say the appetizers were the star of the show. I thought all were delicious. Entrees were a little underwhelming though my ramen was delicious, it was just extremely hot in the restaurant for some reason. Staff were good and price was what I expected. Great place to try but probably won't go back. I shouldn't leave a place sweating after a date night. I think social media hypes the place up too much but it is good just not great. People who come here are worried more about posting on social media than getting great food that the price reflects.
