Enjoyed the last day of a staycation with lunch out and about in Bloomfield. Had driven by this intersection so many times and have seen Aki on my Yelp searches for so long, I finally had to try it. Showed up around 1pm and the restaurant was completely empty. There were a few delivery app pickups and the sushi chefs were busy the whole time we were there so they definitely have a lunch clientele- just not at the restaurant. There is a lunch menu available at the back of the menu booklet. Mostly sushi/sashimi combos, bento boxes, and rice bowls, most of which come with miso soup and/or salad. I opted for the sashimi lunch, which was 13 pieces of sashimi with a small bowl of rice. For the most part, the sashimi was excellent - fresh and melt-in-your mouth. Stopped by for dinner with my friends and had a great experience. The restaurant was packed but we got our food quickly and the service was great. The salmon avocado roll was super fresh and delicious and the hibachi dinner was excellent and super tasty! The star of this show was the tempura ice cream. Hibachi is good/flavorful, but the give a ton of rice. The rice to meat ratio is poor. The lunch price for items is a good deal. Workers are friendly. The regular seating is very dark, and seems dirty. Perhaps fix this and it would be more of a welcoming clean environment. read more

Completely forgot the names.... Both had eel... One had mango inside the other had soybean wrap which I changed to seaweed. They were both absolutely delicious and had a very fresh taste. I usually don't write reviews good or bad for restaurants because it's situational but I had to for this one!! Only because my experience was unbelievable!!! starting with service being denied and ending with being pretty much kicked out by yelling in front of my 5 year old. I placed an order for pick up I arrived within 5 min. The moment I walked in I said I placed an order for pick up and it's okay if it's done that we were eating there. I was with my kid, very hot day and decided to just eat in. The waiter right away said I couldn't eat there. I was confused and figured I was being misunderstood so I said I will eat here. The place was empty I'm picking up sushi from that location ... what is the big deal. Eventually, I let them figure it out after back and forth. I had another lady come up to me to now explaining herself that the owner doesn't allow for take out containers inside the restaurant ( understandable and could have been explained since the beginning) at this point I'm over it and asked her to stop yelling at me in front of my kid and to just allow us to eat. They unwrapped it while we were in the bathroom washing our hands and that was the end of that. Nobody came to check in, I had to get up to inquire about ordering more food and to pay. I decided I was not going tip because I received no service and they were beyond rude. When they realized I didn't tip the screaming lady screamed at me and said I didn't tip her server. I replied calmly that's right because I received no service and the experience was terrible. She went on to continue rambling on and asked if the kid was mine and tried to address him I guess to make me look bad ? I laughed said please don't talk to my kid and closed the door. Before I could close it she screaming at us telling us to "get out! Get out of here" Loved that! Will never be back! read more

Got here at exactly 12:00 pm and there was no wait - straight to a booth! Their lunch specials vary between sushi rolls, teriyaki lunch boxes or hibachi for around $10 each. WHAT A DEAL! Once we sat we were immediately greeted and asked if we would like some hot green tea - YES! We then ordered our lunch and it did not take more than 10 mins to come. Serve was great but i cant stress enough how much bang for the buck this is. The food was delicious and not expensive at all. As everyone may know, we are in a pandemic. Since the start of our stay at home order, we haven't really been getting take out as much as we did in the past. We want to support our local restaurants but as many Americans we need to slow down on the spending. Today was a treat. My guy treated me to some sushi. I've eaten from Aki back in December. It was delicious so today I decided to order from them. I called and the woman who answered was very friendly. Took my order. We were able to pay over the phone to limit the time spent in the restaurant for pick up and was given a order number for pick up. My guy said that when he arrived, the order was ready, he signed the recipe (with his own pen) and was on his way. The cooks were wearing mask and they set up a table in the middle of the restaurant for pick up. Fast and efficient. Made him feel very comfortable. We order fried shumai and the Aki sushi special which consist of 12 pieces of sushi and one spicy tuna roll. The entree also comes with miso soup and a salad. It was amazing and very fresh. So happy I got to have this spectacular meal for mother's day we will definitely be back. read more

This time the Aki sashimi was skimpy . was supposed to be 22 pcs but it was 18 and three were so small I would not consider it one piece, was not happy with my rolls either they are much smaller and very little piece of fish. I ordered pick up for v-day 2018. I was impressed that they had the automated ordering thingy. They were able to tell me the total and what time it should be ready. They were very busy. I had to wait an additional 5 mins before my order was ready. There was another guy who was very upset and kept bugging the lady when his food was ready or this that was his bag whenever food came out. I guess he wasn't gonna get any dessert from his wife that night! We ordered 5 rolls, the volcano, the Bloomfield, eel avocado, alaska and a sweet potato tempura for around $45. Not too bad considering the first two were over $10. I didn't get sick like I usually do after eating sushi so this place gets my nodded approval. And for some odd reason, when our server was seating a family she was much more upbeat and nice to them, not sure if this was racially motivated. We had also gotten steamed vegetable gyoza. But the texture was so off, the wrapper was almost disintegrating in certain spots and I didn't think it had any flavor. When I lived in Bloomfield I was within walking distance of Aki and if I didn't walk, I drove or got take out. At least once a week I had their food and I have turned many onto this great place. Unfortunately I didn't feel the same way as my fellow Yelpers did about this place...I came here because of the reviews and was disappointed. The restaurant itself is nice and cozy..large enough for a crowd. Staff was friendly and the place was empty when we got there around 8 on a Sunday night. I forget the name of the sushi I ordered but it clearly wasn't impressive enough to leave an impression. My husband for the katsu snapper which was pretty good. However the salad that it came with, came with watered down dressing, which again, didn't leave a good impression. Parking is sort of difficult as it seems limited in the back. Street parking isn't recommended since it's off a fairly busy road. Unfortunately I will not be making another trip back here for a sushi fix! read more

I have to say, this was a very nice find that has very good food indeed. We shared a sashimi lunch, my wife had a steak teriyaki dish, and I had miso soup, California roll and yellowtail roll. We both had tea. All worth recommending trying from their menu. Hers came with a salad that I wasn't too high on, but overall everything was quite good, and the service was excellent - friendly and attentive. I would care to elaborate: the waitress... we never needed to ask for anything, the waitress always magically appeared to keep our tea cups filled, and yet it never felt like she was hovering either, perfectly unobtrusive. The food at Aki Lounge is awesome. The Sushi is very fresh. The Eel is delicious, the tuna Collar outstanding. Usually serving the kamamoto oysters. Visited Aki with a small group of friends on Friday night. We got there relatively early and it's a good thing we did. By 7:30 PM, the place was packed! There were people milling around and waiting for tables. I cursed my friend for making us go out so early but I wanted to kiss her after I saw the line that we would have been stuck waiting on. The edamame we ordered came out very tough. There was a lot of it but the pods were stiff and it was a little difficult to get the beans out. The sushi, on the other hand, was very good. We ordered a whole bunch of rolls to split. Their menu is very extensive. They have a ton (TON) of specialty rolls, and we noticed that a lot of them have mango in them. The spicy rolls are spicy enough to have a kick, but they don't seem to be overdone in mayo. All of the rolls were esthetically pleasing and on the large side. This is a good go-to place if you're in the area. The atmosphere is cozy and the waitstaff doesn't hover. They're not the friendliest people you'll meet, but they're on-point with the orders. There is a parking lot in the back, and there is also some street parking. If you forget your vino, don't fret. There is a convenience store (Krauzer's I believe) just a few stores down. read more

As someone who wasn't into sushi at the time, I opted to order noodles instead. I ordered Yaki Udon with shrimp while my boyfriend ordered various sushi options. I tried terribly to stomach the noodle dish but, ended up taking most of it home. Not one to waste food, I took the remainder of my food for lunch to work the next day. It left me feeling ill and I'm not sure whether it was the off sauce (that I didn't like), the possibility that the shrimp had gone bad, or that the dish just wasn't pleasing. The sushi assortment seemed to be a hit for my boyfriend so maybe, that's worth trying at some point. read more
