Yesterday morning we did our 5th(!) family mini session shoot with Stacey in a garden next to the Capitol. It's wonderful to get these beautiful shots of our children growing up -- and have some shots with me that I love that aren't selfies! Years ago Stacey took an iconic (among our family and friends) photo of my son sulking off to the left of the Washington monument when my husband and I were were standing to the right smiling while pregnant with our daughter. Not only were the photos fast (you're in and out in 20 minutes) but we got TONS of great shots in a variety of poses. She made the toddler in the family look like a child model and managed to make him smile a genuine smile for every shot he's in. Magic! My husband's sister lost her job due to COVID, so she's temporarily playing nanny to her cousin's toddler. There's so much about the pandemic that isn't great, but having so much family so close by for once is a small silver lining to this whole thing, and we wanted to document it by getting some family shots. It started with a lovely phone call for us to get to know each other and for Liz to get to know what our goal was for the photos. In our case the studio session was the right call. Our little one had some minor issues that left our hospital discharge date in limbo but Liz was so kind and accommodating in working with us to find the best day. It was a relief because it allowed my husband to join and worked around his crazy schedule. The studio is warm and welcoming. Liz is such an easy and gentle person and it was such a pleasure to chat with her during the session. Being a nurse and having little ones herself made me feel extra safe handing over my two week old for a couple of hours. She was really receptive to our wants for the photos.
