this review is for the ADOPTION/'SANCTUARY' & please note it should not reflect on 'Shanna' at all,…read moreshe's a saint and the singular star that I've given is to be dedicated to her. It's taken me over a year to write this, as I was so livid when everything first went down I decided to give myself time to process. As a lifelong cat lover and owner, I cannot in good faith recommend anyone adopt from this 'sanctuary' due to the following situation I endured: I visited Purr rescue in January of 2025 looking for a second cat as I already had 1 rescue from the Humane Society. I fell in love with a little black cat named Usher via their website and made an appointment that same week to visit all of the cats, but knew I had a sweet spot for 'Usher' and was going there with her in mind. When I got there I was told she was the vet tech's (unfortunately I don't remember his name) favorite cat and he paid special attention to her, *this will be relevant in a moment. I would go on to adopt Usher that same week and take her home a week later. I was told she needed to be quarantined, fully examined nose to tail, given her latest vaccines, etc and given a clean bill of health prior to me taking her from the sanctuary... which I was elated to hear she was 100% healthy and ready to be taken home the following week. She's a bit of a c*nty anti-social kitty to begin with, as all they told me was she was abandoned at the VCA at 6 months old with 3rd degree burns on her back and has a bald spot - as a fellow burn survivor (that can also possess a c*nty attitude, it was love at first sight). Very shortly after having her home and monitoring her 24/7 (i work from home) I noticed something wasn't right and decided to take her to my family vet who I love and trust. It was then that I was informed: - she had such advanced level gingivitis and stomatitus that she would need to have ALL of her teeth removed immediately. - it seemed as though several of her teeth were already missing due to the horrid state of her mouth and NO ONE mentioned this to me. - she had bad infections in both ears and would need ongoing treatment for that as well. I CRIED MY EYES OUT. imagine adopting a new baby, being told they're 100% healthy and have a clean bill of health, falling in love with them more day by day and then being told my your family vet that they need to be taken into surgery immediately due to the deteriorating composition of their entire oral cavity, as well as severe ear infections. AS IF MATTERS COULDN'T GET ANY WORSE... Natalie (i hope you and your superiors all see this) handled both the situation and myself BEYOND UNPROFESSIONALLY and extremely defensive (i have other choice words for her, but I'll let you all use your imaginations). Alluding to the fact this may have happened under my care, ZERO EMPATHY AT ALL as I sit on the phone balling my eyes out about everything this poor little cat is having to endure, and was BERATING me while trying to uphold the 'integrity' of their operation without EVER acknowledging how horrid the whole thing was. She was ABSOLUTE HELL to deal with and I cannot believe they keep her there as a 'site manager' or whatever her made-up title is. She should NEVER interact with clients. She has a horrible reputation in the rescue circuit and evidently has been this way for YEARS but for some reason they keep her on payroll. Contractually Purrr was required to cover the cost of surgery and I went to a surgery center that they partner with, where the Doctor (who was lovely and not affiliated with Purrr in anyway) confirmed for me this was 100% a case where the cat had 'slipped through the cracks' in the system. And let me say, I get that. I understand that they are taking in 100's of cats and accidents do happen ... but due to the way it was handled so poorly, no accountability was taken, and I was never reached out to by the senior leaders or apologized to by anyone other than Shanna, unfortunately I cannot and will not forgive them for this 'accident' - nor can I suggest them to anyone I know & love in good faith.
