I found my cat at animal aid. I have had other rescues but thr physical body of building affected me. I am sure the heart is in the roght place but to see over 10 or so cats crammed into a small space sleeping on the floor wherever they find room is not acceptablr to my mind. not having animals taken from the street and thrown together with no health checks is playing russian roulette with their lives. They have changed. Used to b able to go any day of the week. Now they are only open Friday and Saturday. These poor animals are sitting there for almost a week with no adoptions. They don't even answer the phone. I filled out application and still no word. They tell u if you haven't heard from them in 2 weeks (!!) to call them. As if. They are amazing people but I don't understand why they don't allow out-of-state adoptions. I've adopted 3 dogs from them in the past who have all gone on to the Rainbow Bridge. I've also since moved out of state but come back to Ft Lauderdale frequently to visit. I found a baby online I would have loved to adopt and bring home with me but I was told in-state adoptions only. read more

I recently had interaction with several staff at Animal Aid in Ft Lauderdale. On Friday the 13th 2023 I had to make the decision to euthanize my 16 year old dog Lucky. I was not too terribly stressed as I knew this day would come and finding a caring place for Luckys exit was most important. After visiting the animal clinic next door to Animal Aid and calling my long time vet at Gental Care in downtown Ft. Lauderdale I opted for the care of Maria and the staff at Animal Aid. After a goodbye kiss - off went Lucky. My dog had a full life and traveled the World with me..and a dignified end was important along with reasonable cost. I have been adopting from Animal-Aid for roughly 12 years. My first adoptee was a senior toy poodle who had physical limitations. He was one of the most wonderful dogs I ever had. I next adopted a Cat, Cousin Mitt, who is still with me. He was about 9 months old when I adopted him. This June he will be 12 years old. Since then I adopted 4 additional dogs over the years, all seniors. Two of them, a male and female chihuahua were both about 11 years old when I adopted them almost three years ago. They're both doing well. This past Friday I adopted another dog from Animal-Aid. Logan. He's the youngest dog I ever adopted. He's roughly 2 years old. He's a mini-schnauzer/poodle mix and is about 12 lbs. He's the cutest little guy. Before I took Logan, I actually took another dog, "Tristan" a British Bulldog (mixed with something else) who was terrific. However, another person also wanted Tristan; a lady who had actually fostered him for a short time initially. I did take Tristan home and had him with me for about 24 hours. He was amazing, but being I knew there was another person who wanted him who already knew him and knew both the bad and the good, I felt the right thing to do was to let Cindy have him, and I save another dog ... I believe I did the right thing, and Logan and I have bonded already. I love him to death. Animal-Aid provides a much-needed service to these animals who are abandoned or lost or otherwise unwanted. Tamara works her butt off saving the lives of unwanted dogs and cats (not to mention rabbits, guinea pigs, etc). I'm sorry to have read a couple of not-so-good reviews. I don't know what those person's experiences were, but to some degree the two I read sounded as though they expected perfection and/or that they should have received some kind of special treatment. They sounded a bit as though they expected the red carpet to be rolled out for them when they entered the building. Animal-Aid is a non-profit organization. Most folks working at Animal-Aid are volunteers. They work for free. All services they provide (such as shots, neutering/spading are done at extremely low cost) ... They don't have a huge number of folks working there daily. if you don't feel they provide the perfect customer service experience you'd like, then take your pet to a regular vet hospital where you'll pay the cost for that special service you feel entitled to. Volunteers who work at Animal-Aid do so because they love animals. Most persons working at your vet's office work there because they needed a job and are most likely only being paid minimum wage. So if you think your pet is being treated better at a different vet ... Think again. Anything "negative" you may have seen at Animal-Aid isn't any different than what you aren't seeing at your vet's office because they do everything in the "back area" where human customers cannot go. I will say, once I adopt an animal, I then usually begin them on a Wellness Plan through Banfield Animal Hospital. Animal-Aid is a bit out of the way for me, so I don't often take advantage of too many of the things they provide. though I have on occasion. I did have a dog I adopted elsewhere neutered at Animal-Aid years ago. It was an overall positive experience (not to mention how much money I saved). I have NEVER had a negative experience at Animal-Aid. I think they do an amazing job and offer extremely valuable services, but at the same time I recommend everyone who adopts a dog/cat should also be willing and able to find a long-term family vet for the long-term care of their pet. read more

This is a zero star review; the place is deplorable. Dirty. Hoard. It was truly disgusting to see the conditions that the animals are in. Cats in bags, fallen from stacks of cat carriers, just left on the floor. hoarding piles thigh high so that not more than one person can fit in the place. I ended up choosing not to adopt, I scheduled and appointment but the dog I was looking for was adopted (thank god) but I was shown 2 dogs, covered in feces and neglected. The kennel is crowded, dirty and no ventilation. No food/water . and the meet and greet area is dirty, feces all over and no ventilation. For some reason this place is still open, I can only imagine they are offering financial assistance to the communities pets however THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO KEEP LIVE ANIMALS. PERIOD. read more

I brought a stray cat there to be fixed on Friday. I brought extra newspapers and asked them to change them out after the surgery. She said I didn't need that that they were just use a wee wee pad and take out the old papers. They left the cat and filth, and just put the cat in with the old papers and the pad. It's gross. I won't be going back there again. read more

The service requested response was amazing as I was able to schedule an appointment for a spay and neuter of 2 cats online overnight for the next morning. It seems they only do spays and neuters on Fridays and Saturdays. The value was pretty fair in comparison. My friend wasn't too keen with the fact that one cat looked damaged in the area where they put in the IV, but it happens even in better establishments. The cat recuperated very well and fast! The female cat takes longer, of course. She's still in the process of recuperating and she won't even let us see her as she's a stranger in my home while she recup's. I genuinely do not think anger can describe how I feel right now, I am livid. Today I dropped my cat off at 8 am for her SCHEDULED spading. It is now 3:00 pm. I went to go pick her up and saw she was left in the box I brought her in. She was soaked in urine and they never even did the surgery. When I asked why they said "The Vet just got done with the dogs we're working on #8. There was more animals than we expected" MY CAT WAS NUMBER SIX. Are you KIDDING ME? I am so so so furious and just overall enraged. My poor cat has been stuck in a small box since 8 AM!!! SEVEN HOURS. So you chose the animals who weren't scheduled over the scheduled ones? Are u kidding? Hopefully this place gets shut down you guys are inhumane. read more

No star if i could- Warning, think twice and take your pet to your own vet. I Was not going to leave this, but i don't want other animals to suffer, and for others to be lied to. We have to speak up and stand up against those who think they can treat animals poorly and fool us to pay for their service. *Called and told donation, yet i was billed for surgery my cat did not get. * They Convinced me to pay for shots that my regular vet said was not needed. * Cat was inside a carrier from 9am to 630pm no water, no food, and a loud barking dog right next to her carrier. I was promised that my cat would be seen soon. Tried calling several times thru day no answer. This treatment was wrong, and inhumane. * I Asked if they could check to see if my cat was pregnant without anesthesia etc... they said yes, finally i found out that the cat was seen right before closing- shaved, and then woken up very sick from the anesthesia they gave her (did not need, not pregnant- very wrong)! * Brought cat home still vomiting and shaking for 24hrs, when she needed nothing but a look over. Find a facility that you can trust yet ask questions. Remember you care about the pet the most, but they are in business to make money. read more

I have rescued two dogs from Animal-Aid and I would highly recommend them. They have animals of all shapes and sizes as well as of all ages. I was interested in adopting older dogs, but they often have puppies and kittens. Don't think they send you out with this new animal without medical care! They make sure your new baby has all it needs to start it's life with you off right. They will make sure it has it's shots and gets spayed or neutered. In the case of my most recent rescue, she needed to have all of her teeth removed, and they took care of that with their vet. Don't expect a luxury location... it's not, but if you want to meet the nicest people who actually love the animals, Animal-Aid is the place. If you can't adopt, please make a donation. read more

Visited them more than a year ago with two dogs getting shots, after getting chastised by them regarding the nails on our Yorkie that got groomed regularly, I would've never returned. Fast forward to today and we brought in an 8 week kitten that some scumbag left on the side of I-595 WB and this little guy fell through a drainpipe 30+ feet. I rescued him, got him checked out at our vet and brought him here for a neuter. Alas, after the tongue lashing from the intake employee, I was done listening to it. As I was leaving, a woman was coming in with her elderly cat to humanely put it down. She was told she couldn't be present while the cat was put down, by orders of the vet?!?!? If that's true, I hope this woman went somewhere else and held her pet as it looked for her as their eyes closed for that final time here on Earth. read more

Tamera and the team truly care about their animals & finding them the right home. I adopted my dog a few weeks ago and the process was as easy and seamless as could be, and my own vet remarked how good of a job the shelter did with spaying, vaccines etc., and the donation fee they requested for adoption was very fair. They have lots of pets of all ages and sizes, and they are all pretty well socialized and house trained and happy as can be for shelter dogs. I was going to set up an adoption with a cat that looked like a cat that I lost to cancer a few months back, and I know this cat would need to have a furever home, but I was denied because I was told that they do not allow the cats to be outside without a leash. I have had cats for 18 years and never had one leave the yard, which is fenced in and protected. In addition to the adoption, I was set up to do a monthly donation to the organization to help them with their cost, but because I was denied, I will be removing the donation at this time and finding another organizations that listen to people and how well they have taken care of the cats for all these years. One of the worst facilities I have ever been to dropped off my cat at 8 o'clock in the morning they told me she would be done at 3 o'clock went back at 3:30. My cat still was not spayed. They told me they had a few other DROPS OFFS that they had to do before my SCHEDULED appointment And to come back but meanwhile my cat was sitting in a crate from 8 o'clock in the morning until 3:30 in the afternoon with no food, water or being able to urinate. DO NOT BRING YOUR PET TO THIS BUTCHER SHOP. If there were an option for zero stars I would give it to them. Do NOT EVER bring your dog to be spayed here or any other animal for that fact. The staff doesn't make you feel comfortable to leave your pet with them. I brought my dog to be spayed by them and when I got there it was a very sketchy trailer that they do the surgery in. I should've just trusted my gut feeling and not brought her there at all, the stitches started coming out and the wound started to open after TWO days post-op. My dog's stomach looked like they rolled it in to do the suture. I had to rush her to an emergency hospital because they didn't even answer the phone call for their emergency hotline after finding out they are closed Tuesday through Thursday. I will NEVER suggest this place to anyone that loves their pet because the service I received was despicable. read more
