We recently had to put euthanize our fur baby. For a terribly hard time they were wonderful and made the experience less awful. They have a quiet room that feels like you are in a home. Complete with treats, sofa and nice blanket on the exam table. We have gone through this process previously at other facilities , however this was the most peaceful & calm experience we have ever had. Our fur baby was comfortable and at ease. The staff were all very caring and compassionate. Dr. Snow who had been working with us was wonderful we could not have asked for better care and understanding. They worked with us as we determined the best course of action for our loved fur baby. Lastly they also were great in communicating with us during our furbaby's illness. A dramatic improvement from my previous review. A big shoutout to everyone there we are very thankful for the care you gave our baby. read more

My dog saw Dr. Mendez for 13 years without any significant health problems and was well cared for during that time. At age 13 he became very sick and spent an entire month extremely ill and on his death bed without a correct diagnosis after multiple visits and tests. Dr. Mendez recommended an ultrasound that she then refused to perform, and instead insisted that I go to a specialist requiring two hours of drive time while knowing that my dog experienced extreme anxiety from car transportation. Because I implored her to conduct the ultrasound herself, she decided to tell me to find another vet to care for my dog, which I've had to do. On my last visit to Animal Care Hospital, I requested that my dog be prescribed an antibiotic cycle with the hope it might resolve the sickness. Dr. Mendez told me that she didn't think it would do any good, and that it was an inflammatory issue and not a bacterial issue. Fortunately, she agreed to sell me the antibiotics and within two days my dog was on his way back to 100% recovery. The month-long process cost me over a thousand dollars while my dog laid in misery. There are going to be better alternatives to ACH for the best care. read more

I have two dogs and live in solvang, with one dog doing to a vet in town and another going to Animal Care Hospital in Lompoc. AFTER visiting them for a few appointments I'm willing to have BOTH pets seen her despite the 30min drive. YUP, that's how amazing and nice they are. Here's the top line: we have 1 dog and 4 cats. We live in a motorhome full-time, travel all around the country continually, Dr. Mendez is our vet and Animal Care Hospital is where we take our pets, period. Unless it's a dire emergency, we wait until we're back in Lompoc so our animals get all their routine (and sometimes not at all routine) care there. Why? Because we have had to go to other vets on rare occasions and we have never found better care anywhere. ANYWHERE. Dr. Mendez and her staff are professional, of course. That's to be expected, but they are so much more that just that. They have in abundance the two qualities you most need when considering the care of your best friends: knowledge and compassion. They are always learning and ever caring. For them, veterinary care is a calling. It's clear every time we've been there. Not just for our pets, but for everyone we've sat in the lobby with. They know them, both the animals and their people. Put it this way: your animals are the people in THEIR neighborhood and they LOVE their neighbors. We cannot recommend them highly enough. We just feel fortunate that they're never more than a few thousand miles away from us. read more

Animal Care Hospital here in Lompoc came through for my family this week when we needed to put our sweet suffering 13yo lab down. 2 other vet offices were not available until after 2pm (I understand offices are busy and we would need an extended appt to say goodbye). But from the moment I called and spoke with Ashley, to the moment we arrived at the office, to the moment the md came into the room to guide us through the process, we were treated with such heart warming compassion. All of the staff, Male vet tech, girl that roomed us, front office that checked us in, and md, were so professional and kind. I have always taken my fur family to this office, and have always had great experiences. Customer care and service was always great. But today I called with an emergency for my pet. As soon as I said Hi It seemed like I was being rushed to get off the phone. I said I wanted to inquire about an appointment, before I could even ask any other questions or inform the problem, I was cut off and told Not taking any new patients. I informed the person on the phone, That my pet has been seen multiple times in the past by this office, She quickly asked for information and immediately said, too much time has passed, you're a new patient and we are not seeing new patients, sorry, click. I've lived in a few giant metropolitan areas, and have had many vets to choose from. Even though I've always taken my dog to the best possible, I've ALWAYS experienced vets try to up-sell me things my dog DOESN'T need. They had also treated me like an endless cash cow. This is the ONLY vets office I've been to where I'm not being up-sold on absolutely unecessary additions. Furthermore, it's the only vets office I've been to where I feel like my dog is treated like they would their own. I'd like to give a special shout-out to Dr. Mendez! She is a phenomenal veterinarian. My dog had been battling a respiratory illness for nearly two months. In fact, early on I was terrified he may have died. It was one of the most heart wrenching points in my life. Dr. Mendez not only performed all the tests she felt were necessary in diagnosing my little buddy -- she also called to personally check in with us throughout the whole ordeal. Best Vet we have ever been to and our baby is 9yrs old!! Front office staff was on it and had all of my dogs records that we had sent over. Thanks, Dr. Scherr! She did a very excellent job of surgically removing 3 lipomas from my dog. She was comforting and factual about the procedure, with explanations during the pre and post-op phases, and Ginger sailed right thru it. The prices were very reasonable considering it was surgery. All around a positive and successful experience. If your dog has a growing, large lipoma, I do recommend removal; he is lighter on his feet now, and his whole countanance is has changed - I do believe he feels like a 'new, younger man'! read more

The best care you can get! I have been taking my sweet cat to Dr. Mendez for years, and the staff and all of the Vets at ACH have been as caring as anyone could possibly hope for, even when they are very busy. When my cat died not long ago, they cried with me and were so kind and thoughtful. Over the years, as my cat was having increasing health problems, they never stopped being willing to look for the best solutions and understanding that the cost of care sometimes dictates what is practical. I look forward to taking my next kitty to them, when I get one! There are a couple of negative reviews listed on Yelp, but in my experience, those situations must have been very rare exceptions, as can happen anywhere. read more

My parents have been going to Animal Care Hospital for the past two decades and they have experienced wonderful care by the doctors and staff there. Our young family has a 10 month old puppy and we had a medical emergency with him this past week where we almost lost him. Dr. Mendez, Dr. Wemmer, and their entire staff were extraordinary in caring for him during this difficult and emotional time. They were thorough in trying to diagnose the cause of our puppy's illness and were communicative throughout the process. They worked tirelessly over several days running tests which led to an emergency surgery where they located the problem. Since surgery, our puppy is back to his playful and energetic self. He is on the road to recovery and the staff have been wonderful in his aftercare and checking in to ensure he is doing well and that we have everything we need. I would highly recommend this vet as they go over and beyond and specialize their care to ensure all your pet and family's needs are met. My Buddy got stung by a bee and is apparently super allergic. He broke out in hives and the whole left side of face was swollen so bad that he couldn't eat. They got us an appointment first thing in the morning. Words cannot express how incredibly grateful I am for Dr. Mendez and her staff. My cat Ozzy had started off choking on water....it increasingly got worse and would happen throughout the day. I took her to a few different clinics, even traveling to LA and was getting the run around (her bloodwork and xrays were fine, could be hair balls, change food, etc.) I knew it was something more but ran out of hope, when my sister referred me to Dr. Mendez (who saved her cats life) From the 1st visit Dr. Mendez assured me we would get to the bottom of it, and she did. Having 100% trust in your vet is something I found really hard to come by until finding them. I am forever grateful that Ozzy is now in the hands of Dr.Mendez and her amazing team and I am able to relax knowing that they genuinely care about her. I have been with Animal Care Hospital for many years and I would highly recommend this office to anyone. I recently had to have my dog put to sleep. Dr. Wemmer came to my house about 8:00 pm on a Sunday with her assistant to help us with our dogs passing. They were so compassionate and understanding and made sure our dog Maverick was comfortable till the end. Everyone we have encountered at this office over the years have been so friendly and professional. They have flexible hours so we are always able to get our appointments at a convenient time. Dr. Mendez treated our dog Maverick when he had a severe back injury, she helped us find and office where we could get and MRI quickly as well as a surgical center to perform the surgery as it was pretty complex. She handled all of Mavericks after care and rehabilitation. They also took great care of our rats when we had them. Fantastic office!! read more

Ashley and Monica, the receptionist, DVM- Tammy R Mendez and Nicole the front desk staff have me in shock about what took place at the Animal Care Hospital office on North H street not long ago. Folks, If you love your animals, please consider going elsewhere. My beautiful cat had a fight with another cat in my yard last night. The next morning she was lethargic and crying, moving very slowly & this is not my normal cat. I began calling every Vet in Lompoc & either left messages or asked for appts. I get it. We're all busy nowadays. The receptionist at this business asked if i wanted a 3:20 pm available appt? I said yes and confirmed. When i got there at 3:20 with my poor, crying animal in the back, i went in & was told i needed to fill out my paperwork. I agreed and asked if i could ask someone knowledgeable about antibiotic costs jn general so i could look at what costs may be involved. The staff would not answer any questions. A man rushed in with a beautiful dog that was choking on a bone. The dog was escorted quickly to the Vet office. I get it. I am an extreme animal lover. I gave the receptionist my paperwork for the cat when the receptionist then said "we may not be able to accommodate your cat today" i asked "why?" she said "we need to handle this emergency" I said, "that's fine, i get that there are emergencies, I'm willing to wait. Can you tell me roughly how long?" The receptionist would not answer my question. My main concern is having my pet looked at asap also. At this point, Tuna was crying hysterically in my car. Monica- receptionist came to the front client area & at the same time, DVM-Tammy Mendez came to the client area & approached the man with the choking dog who was standing approximately 6 feet away. Mendez giggled as she asked the dog owner if "he'd like the bone as a souvenir?" He was in & out in a matter of minutes. They ended their conversation & Mendez turned to go back to her office & I asked her very kindly if I could speak with her for just a moment and she responded as she walked right by me with an extremely mean look on her face & said "I'm backed up" and the door slammed behind her. I was blown away by her behavior as a business owner in such a small town. Why did the receptionist attempt to lead me outside while the Vet was standing next to me with another client being the nicest person on the planet, yet so extremely rude & unprofessional to someone that she's never spoken to or met in her life? Unfortunately, this seems to be another business that looks at $$$ & there is no compassion, heart or caring within the business. In a small town such as Lompoc, if we are treated like cattle, small businesses suffer & so do customers when it's hard to find reputable, trustworthy places to spend your hard earned money. In the meantime, my animal is suffering while I wait another 1 1/2 hours to see another Vet to have my baby looked at. Luckily, she was stable although she had a high temperature. Can you imagine if I lost my dear pet because of their behavior? Needless to say- Here comes the picket signs to warn others if that ever happened. Another reason I'd like to let the public know & make that important choice in regards to your loved pets. Shame on you Animal Care Hospital. Maybe you should change the name of the business to: Animals~We care sometimes-Hospital. read more
