They killed my dog! We went in for my dog not acting right, told me the results which should have been an overnight stay with fluids and antibiotics, they sent him home, next morning dead! I wasn't going to post this but a year later I'm still so upset with our service we got here. I'm also only telling my story for others to be aware of this place. My dog was hit by a car last year at this time. 2 am we rushed her to Collinsville and they took X-rays and said she had a dislocated hip and that the right side of her was paralyzed (because she wouldn't put weight on her right foot and she couldn't stand on her left without crying out in pain . They had told us she wouldn't have any quality of life unless we did tons of said surgeries they also wanted us to let them give her fluids and overnight care but when we told them we couldn't afford more than 1500 . She came back with the xray and told me that She would need her right leg amputated and surgery to her dislocated hip because she wouldn't make a "false" joint normally because she would only have one leg. We had already spent 1k that night they wanted to put her down but it was going to be $300-500 because she is a Great Pyrenees Anatolian Shepard and we would have to still transport her body back with us . I cried endlessly and asked the vet if she was positive she said she was. We told them we would take her home and spend her last day with her and take her to our local vet that Monday. They did give us some pain medicine after I continuous asked for more than just gabapentin they finally gave her something stronger. Then I asked for them to email me all of her xrays. Monday we took her to our vet after spending two days with her thinking it was our last moments. Took her to our vet he immediately looked at her said because her tail was moving she was not paralyzed and then looked at the xray that Collinsville took and she in fact had a right pelvic fracture that's why she wouldn't put weight on her leg NOT that she was unable to. He had said with her being 2 years old she had a lot of life left in her and that dogs heal amazingly and he was right ! She healed perfectly and runs around like she always did before . Idk how many times we thank god that we listened to our gut and took her home. It scares me how many times they do that to others to get $$. We would have might of put her down if it was $100 ya know? And no this wasn't just an easy mistake it was very clear it was broken and the vet was a SEASONED VET with years of experience. It makes me sick to think people are having to put their pets down if they don't have the $$ to do their treatment. GET A SECOND OPINION!! read more

I took my dachshund in for an abscessed tooth and they got us in very quickly. They immediately took her back for triage and I saw the vet in a timely manner considering the other animals they were working with that had more urgent needs. I could hear them in the back when they were working with her and they were very kind to her and used a comforting voice to talk to her. The vet was compassionate but direct, which I appreciated. They gave me a quote before taking any actions and explained the reasoning without my asking whereas other emergency vets seem to want to run endless tests with not explanation. The facility manager was very kind and came to check on me several times while we were waiting for the vet to return. Checkout was quick and the price was very reasonable for an emergency service. We did not have a good experience at this emergency animal center. After sitting in our car for 5 hours waiting for our golden doodle to be treated for loose stool and vomiting, we left with an $800 bill and no real answers. When we were able to get into his regular vet they found bacteria in his end almost immediately. They were disappointed to know his fecal wasn't even tested at the ER. We were given antibiotics to easily solve the issue. read more

MONEY HUNGRY, RUDE, AND TAKING ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE IN THEIR WORST MOMENTS. They let my puppy die because we couldn't pay them. $1400. My 14 week puppy, Irene, was sleeping with me and all of a sudden became lethargic. we rushed her up there and called in so they could come put and get her. they said she was in a bad condition and in a coma. they told me that the initial 'exam' was $140, and all other services would have to be paid up front, or they would just have to let her die. we tired everything, borrowing $, opening up a new line of credit, applying for a grant. they wouldn't do anything because we could not pay the $800 for her bloodwork and IV fluids. i asked them what else i should do because they were willing to to just let her die, and some lady suggested we turn her over to a rescue so maybe THEY could pay them to help my pet. These people do NOT. care about your pets, your family members, your best friends. all they care about is making sure they get your $ first, up front. we ended up having to just put her down, of course they wouldn't let us be with her because THAT was extra. watching my best friend die was extra. these people are horrible. how could you be in the business of HELPING. ANIMALS. but refuse to do anything till you hack up your next month's rent. they could give a shit less. probably have a monopoly on the service since they are the only ones around. DO. BETTER. i will miss my Irene for the rest of my life and mourn her happy dance forever. read more

Thank you to the animal emergency center. I We experienced our first emergency with our 2 year old beagle. She got some vaccinations at her normal vet and had a scary allergic reaction. I called the animal emergency center and they told me to bring her in right away. From start to finish, they were kind and explained everything to me step by step. They took our girl in right away and we were out in less than 2 hours. The only downside is I couldn't go inside with her, had to wait in the car. No complaints outside of that. The overall price of everything was much more reasonable than I imagined! Thank you for taking good care of our pup. read more

Brought our pet in because she was vomiting and wouldn't eat. We knew from a phone call to AEC that an x-ray would be needed to diagnose the issue, but they went ahead and told us to bring her. They checked her in and billed us for a "diagnosis" even though the x-ray person was at the end of the shift and would not be able to x-ray our pet. We payed $160 for the vet to tell us that she needed and x-ray that they could not do. Maybe they should think about referring people to another emergency clinic when they need services the AEC is not able rather than charging them $160 for nothing! read more

If I could leave a no star I would. As soon as we got there they were extremely rude. We were freaking out about our dog like any dog owner would. They took their time on the paper work. They said it was $149 for an exam and blood work. It took them an hour to get to our dog for the exam. After they called us to tell us the price for blood work after telling us it was included in the $149. After saying we would not like the get it done since we didn't have the money they were extremely rude. They also tried to run test for unnecessary stuff after saying they knew what it was. Also at the front door she right away told us what they thought it was and wouldn't let us explain the situation. Over all they were extremely rude and unprofessional. read more

Our old boy got into an altercation with another animal, either a bigger dog or more likely a coyote. We took him here. Staff picked him up and carried him in right away. The vet made a thorough exam and it was determined our 14 yr old Dach mix would not do well with the multiple surgeries that would be necessary, putting him down was the humane choice. We got to see him and they were very respectful of our dog, sedated him for comfort and covered him with a sweet blanket before we went in to say goodbye. I was grateful for the kindness toward us and our dog. Very professional staff. read more

Just got off the phone with the receptionist "Jan" who was beyond rude and unprofessional. I was calling to pay over the phone for a friend who has an animal who needed emergency surgery. I was asking questions and she had beyond snark replies. I asked a question about payment and her reply was "oh honey I told her this 100 times" AND THEN LAUGHED. Immediately confronted the situation and she back tracked to the point of making me speak to someone else. Brought our bunny in because he wasn't feeling well (and upon more research of his symptoms that were explained to the enployees we figured it was a parasite), they offered us $1100 minimum in just general tests, sedating the bunny, medicine, and a fee for bringing him in. We ended up only accepting to do certain tests, which over the phone we were quoted around $350 but were charged $514.10 at the door. The tests didn't even help us figure out what was wrong with the bunny; Google was more help. Aside from this, they had him for about 6 hours and multiple people told us he would be ready by 6 and that we can start heading over, just for him to not be ready until 6:40. We still have to take him to another vet for the same problem we hoped would get at the minimum diagnosed at this center, so that's even better. How lovely. read more

I rarely post reviews, but the owners of this place should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. I brought my dog in choking on blood, and after standing in reception for nearly ten minutes, a woman came out with an annoyed expression to ask me what I wanted (!). I said that I needed help, and she told me I was too close to the end of the emergency hours and needed to go to a vet! When I questioned this, she acted even more annoyed and told me she was too busy. Completely shameful. I had to take my poor pup from Collinsville to Fairview, where they agreed to see him early, and he had to be PUT DOWN. Your behavior is shameful, and you have no business working with animals. read more

Well I had had a 9 week old rottweiler puppy I got from a woman in Alton who sold me this beautiful dog knowing she had Parvo. Pepper is her name and she was seemingly normal for the 1st day until the signs of lethargy,vomiting,and diarrhea became apparent... So for about 1 day she was good then she's suddenly looking like she's not even going to last the night. So I brought her in there to this Animal Emergency Center about 1 am on a saturday night.. I brought in a stool sample for them to test as I was already fearing Parvo based on the symptoms. I give it to them,and they say "ok great" and then proceed to jam a q-tip up her ass anyway because I suppose they didn't feel like saying my sample was worthless to them,which it wasn't,but fine.whatever. I wait about an hour before they say she's tested positive for Parvo as she hands us some literature on the subject and leaves the room again. (So this is where I began to stop making excuses for the employees there and impartially look at how they REALLY were)... So I proceed to wait for 2 MORE HOURS for "Dr.Satan" Santiago" to come in. She enters and immediately starts handling this rottweiler puppy who had gotten down to 6 lbs in 3 days,and hadn't been able to keep any food or water down in that time,who was on the edge of death mind you, like really rough.. As if she were pissed at her or something..She starts by pushing in on her eyeballs,pulling on her scruff and finally digging into her stomach with her fingers,which was clearly hurting this dying puppy!! So between her cries and yelps from her doing this,I ask inquisitively what exactly she's looking for as she's doing that, all while doing my best to console and comfort little Pepper while Dr.Satan continues to ignore me and giggles, going back to thrusting her fingers into her belly making her cry in agony once again.. Again I said, excuse me. May I ask what your searching for that's putting her through obvious excruciating pain and more hell than she's already going through and why your doing it again ? Is that necessary??!! Wtf ?? She again ignores me...digging her knuckles and fingertips in more and harder than before,chuckling the entire time like I'm telling jokes or something ...... I then began to lose it. I said ya know,I'm not really sure if your not hearing me or your ignoring me on why you insist on doing what your doing there !!! (Mind you,she was already finished before but began again when I asked her about it chuckling and grinning like some sort of f'n sadist ! I'm not exaggerating even a little bit here. I almost got the third attempt to ask completely out before I just snapped,grabbed my puppy and said, gimme my f'n dog you f'n... (I called her a name not fit for general audiences let's just say..,It wasn't good) She kinda just shrugged and said - okay,seeming relieved. I scooped up my half dead puppy,stormed towards the entrance and kicked the front door open clearing my path and left. Again I dont know what this poor dying 9 week old puppy could have done to Dr.Santiago,but this woman is a monster. Plain and simple. I would BEG someone to think twice before choosing this hellhole.Please for the sake of your pets well being,don't say you weren't warned if you do. I made that same mistake as we got there,there was this nervous and aggravated guy who said he brought his dying dog there and had been there two hours and knew nothing yet. Not a word. Do not take your pets here!!! They use the owners emotional state to scam you out of money!!! My husband took our dog in because he ate an entire tub of glucosamine chews and after being there for over an hour they tried to rack up over $700 in charges and hadn't even called animal poison control to see what affects the chews would have on the dog. They basically said that if we don't do as they advise then my dog would die. After some research on our own we found that the dog would most likely have an upset tummy for a few days. I had been traveling from Arizona back home to Ohio when my dog got sick. I had been to 3 ER's within 12 hours. Each ER told me that my dog was not considered critical and I can wait but critical animals will be pushed to the front of the line...rightfully so. But I was given 6 hour wait estimates with no guarantee of even getting in that quickly. Animal Emergency Center was my final hope, when I got there the vet tech on staff was extremely kind and let me know the same thing, my dog was not critical and it would be a long wait as well as a lot of money but it was memorial day weekend and I couldn't get into a vet and my dog had diarrhea for 3 days, and was very dehydrated by this point so I told him I was going to wait. He went inside to talk to the vet on staff that day and came out with a list of instructions for me. He told me where to go and what medication they would prescribe even if they tested him. I was so thankful I broke down in tears. He saved me not only time but also money out of the goodness of his heart and my dog is feeling better now thanks to him! He could have easily turned me away like the others or had me wait for hours... It was reassuring to know there are still good people out there that just genuinely want to help! read more

My family and I had the unfortunate task of taking our 13 year old mini Jack Russell to the Animal Emergency Center in the very early morning hours of Thanksgiving day. From the moment we walked in, we were treated with compassion and concern. Our little guy was very sick and he was taken back immediately. Dr. Shelly came in and examined him and she was so kind, caring and loving with Buddy. She offered several options but we ultimately opted for euthanasia. Many staff members stopped in to offer their condolences and they allowed us to spend as much time with him as we wanted for his last minutes of life. It was painful and tearful but this facility handled everything so professionally and sympathetically. If my remaining fur baby ever needs anything urgently, this is where I will take her. My baby was rush to them in the middle of the night,vomiting blood. Before they could see him ,I had to agree to 92.00 to be paid right there, and sign papers. This little guy is my heart, I can no longer work,butGod makes a way. They inform me he would have to stay at least two days and they well keep me informed. Gateway animals service we're supposed to help me early to get him to the vet and I told them they well be helping. But before I get services,I had to pay over 600.00 dollars. I was blessed that I had that much let on my charge card. 20 minutes to maybe 30, they called and said he was in renal failure and need to be put to sleep. The next day, they called and said U owed 140.09 dollars more. My heart hurts but I'm sad that there is no compassion for pet parents who cannot pay for there services,and help us get help to pay for services. They will turn you away. I have never been to a place where the people seem to be so passionate and actually care. They did any amazing job, and Id recommend without question! Took my dog here on Sunday January 22nd 2017. Sonny had been hit by a car. They took him right in stabilized him because he was in shock and gave him a pain medicine shot. I was told he most likely had a pelvis fracture but they couldn't be certain without an X-ray he also needed to be checked for internal bleeding but I was told he more than likely didn't have internal bleeding. They wanted $993 for a deposit to begin treating him well I don't have an extra $993 just laying around so my son, his girlfriend and I all applied for the carecredit they offer. We were all denied. The receptionist said that even she had been denied. So my only options were to bring him home and call a vet in the morning or they could euthanize him. I wasn't going to let them do that, not after the vet told me that he would heal from this injury given 6-8 weeks. They wouldn't allow me a payment plan for the $993 but they would offer me a payment plan for the $145 bill for what they had done so far. I had no choice but to bring him home till morning they had me sign a leaving against medical advice form. I told the receptionist that I wasn't leaving against medical advice I was leaving because they wouldn't treat him without me paying. He was in so much pain they left the IV in when I took him home just in case I came up with the money. While at home the pain meds start to wear off and he's literally screaming out in pain every 20-30 minutes. Worst thing I've ever heard. They wouldn't give me anything to give him while at home and I asked how long will the meds last? Will he wake up in the middle of the night in pain? She said yes he probably will. But never did they offer anything to be sent home. Well I came up with the money for them to treat him I took him as fast as I could but he ended up dying there. If they had treated him to begin with and not been so worried about payment in full my dog would still be alive. He died from shock due to the pain. If you Animal is critical like mine was DO NOT take them here if you can't afford a higher than all vets. They will die or be made to suffer. I am discussing this with a lawyer friend to see if I have a case against them. Although it won't bring my dog back maybe just maybe they will change their policy on payments. If my dog had been my human child and this had happened the doctor would lose his license the practice would be shut down and I would have millions from the lawsuit. Nothing they can do will bring him back but I don't want them to kill another dog. My dogs death was preventable and they did nothing. I FU$&ING HATE THIS PLACE!!!!! As I was talking to the vet before we left he said that they weren't uncaring it's just business. read more
