Updated: 7/23/26. Dr Brian Rodis is a horrible money hungry person. He had my dog for 5 hours and did NO work on my dog bc they didn't sedate her but still wanted me to pay for it anyway. I had to argue with him about the payment just for him to take it off the bill and tell me to FIND A NEW VET. Crazy! Plus the responses team is even worse with no resolution. They charge you 200$ plus just for vaccines and add on things you HAVE to get in order for them to continue to allow you to pay 300$ for their monthly heartworm treatment. This clinic is money hungry and outrageous. They charge you just for the doctor to TOUCH your dog.. if I'm paying a doctor to touch my dog then service needs to be prompt . We been waiting for the doctor for a min. This insane it's time for a new clinic.! read more

My pet did not care for this vet, she tried getting away from him, she was very uneasy. I debated on doing this but was so besides myself I decided to do so. I have three dogs, and additionally a fourth one. switched to Four Paws when they were on highway 50 a while back. at first definitely impressed. as time goes little things started adding up.. I was getting dismayed, THEN! My big baby got heart worms. I had to take him in for treatment. What a disheartening ride this has been. I didn't know what to expect, nor was I told UNTIL the very moment I picked him up that I have to keep a 2 yr old EXTREMELY active pup with two other siblings and a 6 wk old puppy that's his play toy, almost lifeless for three months!... oMG! the questions started coming out! How? Why? ... JUST EXPLSIN TO ME WHY! I was met with ignorant facial expressions and such a degrading tone of voice with the answer the American Heart Association said so! Then I was told if any questions or problems arise to call the vet.... Well they did and I did and I was met with a downward talking almost heckling voice message from the vet again saying these protocols are in place because the American Heart Association said so!wait! WhaaAt? How DARE you presume you knew why I was calling? You ASSumed I was calling to question your protocol when my dog could of been suffering side effects or complications? This clinic got my dog in very quickly when she was urinating pure blood and her regular veterinary clinic wouldn't give us an appointment or let me speak with my veterinarian. I am so grateful that they saw my baby within an hour of my call so she could get the medicine she needed to feel better without having to pay costly emergency room fees. We are now switching her care here because we believe we can count on them to see her for regularly scheduled appointments, grooming and unexpected acute care. I never want to leave my dog in pain once I recognize something is wrong and they helped me accomplish this despite never having seen her before. I also appreciate how thorough the exam was, even getting a call a few days later to confirm the exact bacteria causing her infection and assurance she was on the proper antibiotic for that specific bacteria. read more

I just called to see if I could get our beloved Wee Wee into see one of the doctors sometime today as she has shown sign of having a Stroke. Wee Wee has been a patient of Four Paw for many years. When we called and spoke with the customer service rep, explaining that Wee Wee has seemed to have a stroke Christmas Day and that her legs are not working and seem to be paralyzed, the CSR replied "Sorry but we are double booked, but you can take her to Harthorne animal hospital" I do understand if they are busy, but is this the place that you want to take your pet when they show zero compassion or willingness to help! Also is this the place you want to take your beloved pet, that when you have an emergency, they just pawn your pet off because you didn't have a scheduled appointment. It just feels that they knew what the outcome would be and didn't want to deal with it. Wee Wee may be close to 13 years old and towards the end of her days, but she is ours and we love her dearly. I am changing vets and am overall disappointed with Four Paws. My dog has been ill and was dx with Giardia we took in the f/u stool sample to ensure the initial meds worked. They got the fecal results back on Wednesday which I found out when I called Thursday to check. The front desk said the vet would call me to get the script.....no call so I went in person on Friday to try and get meds but the vet was "not going to be in the office". This is unsat! They also saw my other dog for similar symptoms to Giardia as the puppy was already dx and ran like $350 in tests but failed to get the stool sample to the lab resulting in delayed care. Worst vet practice I have ever been to and we move frequently due to my job so have used many vets over the years. read more

This clinic is all about the money. For 4 years our cats prescription diet was filled automatically through chewy. Now they are siting a law that says we should have been bringing out pet in annual so that they would fill the urinary food diet for our cat. The stress that it puts on my pet to go into a clinic is unnecessary. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone. They do not put the welfare of your pet first, money is the root of their decision making. read more

I have been a customer at Four Paws for 20 years. I had a poodle that had numerous serious problems and an old chihuahua that had breathing problems. Dr. Bollmeyer helped me tremendously with special care and understanding. Always attentive, always patient, and above all, knowledgeable and up on the latest treatments. I now have another poodle and have been seeing Dr. Jessen. Once again, great service and expert care. Dr. Jessen is one of the most compassionate caring people I have ever met. He did two operations on my poodle and he is like new! One more thing about 4 Paws. There is a man named James Hempstead who mans the phones and handles things at the front desk. I have relied on him for information and help and he is always there for me. Never does he say "I don't know." He has a wonderful helpful attitude and has been a life saver when I needed information or help. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would but I needed to write this review so here we are...first off my cat became what's called "blocked" last Thursday and it was an emergency situation so with me only living a few miles from four paws I called and they hesitantly got me in before my original appt time. I got to see lovely(sarcasm) dr jenner and she immediately said he was blocked and it was an emergent situation and we needed to decide about treating our cat or looking into other options(I assume euthanasia) I've worked for an animal ER in the past so I know the situation well and knew it was do or die..so we opted for the "procedure" well Christmas weekend was upon us so of course no one wants to have to come to work so the dr decided that by Saturday she was pulling the catheter(only 1.5 days after placement) bc she said his urine was clear and he was eating and drinking like a champ for them! When I got home Saturday evening after work my cat was lethargic and not eating much at all and I let him out of his crated area and he peed all over our Christmas tree skirt(not knowing if it was from being sedated or pain meds or both we just put him back in his crated room) anyways after the holiday we had a phone call from I assume a tech who made me well aware my cat did NOT have a surgical procedure and he just had a catheter placed bc I accidentally said the word surgery to her on the phone and just wanted help with what signs and symptoms to look for bc we got no paperwork about the "procedure" and my husband picked him up so he got the details on our baby. So that convo went south with what I was hoping for help wise and with me working in health care and patient care I would hate for her to have called me about one of my family members with that attitude. Move forward to the next day which was our revisit with the lovely(sarcasm again) dr Jenner and she proceeded to inform us our kitty was blocked again even though he had produced urine for us in his litter box but wanted to know if we would like them to cath him again and I told her there was no way we could afford the almost 1200$ bill we had just paid 4 days earlier for the same issue and wanted to know what else we could do...she suggested euthanasia!!!! Seriously?!?? So today..1 day post revisit which mind you cost us another 50$ just to be told our cat was "blocked" again, I have seen a new vet my cat was cathed put on fluids and given antibiotics/steroids all for 150$!!!!! Ladies and gentlemen we have a problem...not to mention I left four paws with anxiety/stress/fear/sadness/loss/hopeless last night...i want to add I called four paws this AM right when they opened in hopes another vet would help me and maybe work with me on the care of my animal and was assured he would call me as soon as he checked in at 8:30am and come 11am I finally had a missed phone call because I turned my phone on silent because I need rest(I didn't sleep at all last night because of the fear of saying goodbye to my fur child today) I've had my cat for 5 years never an issue and to be treated the way we were just ruined my hope for that facilities compassion towards animals!!! The facility we saw today showed my cat and my family compassion/care/hope and genuine knowledge of what was needed for our animal...I'm not saying I'm a pro but I've worked with an animal ER and have a family member that owns a practice in Florida and she and the vet from today agreed they would have never EVER pulled a catheter that early and the minimum time is 3days and that's at the bare minimum. We are leaving this catheter in my cat for 10days minimum since his urethra is smaller(from being neutered too early-take note if you need a cat neutered in the future wait until they mature a little) and it's constricted and swollen and just needs time to relax. I understand some people may have had the best experience of their lives at this place but to nickel and dime someone when they are vulnerable is just plain wrong! I also understand a facility has to pay their bills but at what cost? You had a family in there not even a week ago having the same issue and you want to recharge them the same cost and not even bat an eye to offer assist them when they plead that they can't afford the same service again?!?! I hope that if anyone reads this and takes anything away from this..find your mom and pop smaller animal clinics that will do what is in the best interest of your pet and not their pocketbooks!!!! AMEN my cat will live another day!!!!!! Included is a picture of the breakdown of the cost of the services we were given and not to mention we paid for a blue soft collar and it didn't come home with us...but the vet today gave us a new hard collar and said no charge!!! read more

I only went to this vet because I purchased two guinea pigs from petco and they sent me here for a free vet appointment. I would never spend my own money here. The staff was very loud and rude. The vet tech I spoke with didn't know what the abbreviation URI (Upper Respiratory Infection) was and I had to explain it. If I didn't speak up about what I made the appointment for they would've tested for a UTI instead!! Next, when they took the two guinea pigs, they said they'd call me when they were done but I asked if I could stay, since I live almost 30 minutes away. They said no it would be best I didn't and made it clear I really couldn't. They didn't even tell me how long it might take. Finally, when I returned only 20 minutes later they made me wait some more, but while I was waiting I overheard staff members talking badly about the vets and whoever owned it. read more

Disappointed over all. I had been taking my chinchilla here for quite some time. No real guidance with her teeth problems because she wouldn't eat hay. I was ignorant in not knowing any better and she ended up passing. I took her to be cremated and was told I would get a foot print along with a box with her ashes. When I went to pick her up no foot print and the box was super generic not even close to as nice as the one I got for my kitty over a year ago and it was more expensive. I will find another small animal vet going further. So upsetting. read more

Sadie Took Sadie to four paws vet,her regular vet was very busy and couldn't fit her in. When I went in they examined her said they would have to run test. The vet thought it was female infection. She wanted to do blood work and x-ray to rule out a tumor. I told her I had 250. At the moment, she said they would only be able to do blood work. Not all the tests but some,with 250. Only got some. She said to bring her in next day for results,next day I had another 250. They did an x-ray,the nurse come in said she spoke to dr. As big as the mass was there is no way it was puss. It was a tumor,but they never seen puss push everything out of the way. They was leaning towards cancer and there was nothing more to do except make her comfortable. The showed me how to put an IV in to give her fluids. The antibiotics were not needed,to bring her back on the weekend. Well come Friday Sadie was starting to be her old self. They called I told them Sadie was leaking pus from there and she was more like herself. The nurse said oh it must be the infection,I said but you said it was a tumor. The nurse said if you remember I said it could be an infection. Well I'm pissed could not even think,told her I would call her back. The end result I gave them almost 500.00 and that was not enough. It would be best to put my Sadie down.Well Four Paws animal hospital is out for money and as much as they can take. They even gave me a brochure on insurance. Well four paws did not assure me in anyway while I'm crying. They just wanted my money and they was going to put her down! I guess I was not rich enough for them. There is no way I would even consider going there or recommend them. They are not good,they are a franchise and the bottom line MONEY is all important. Since the place has expanded it has lost something- less family oriented or personal oriented as it used to be. Staff at front desk seem stress at times. Boy do I want to like this place but every time I take my dog here it's a bad experience. Today was simply my dogs yearly shot, heart worm tests etc. I never allow them to take my dog in the "back" because I do not trust them. When they came to draw her blood the specialist was visibly upset she had to do it in front of me. It then took her 5 sticks to draw the blood. I can see why she was upset. There were witnesses and her skill level was low. When the doctor came he was so rushed that I could barely understand him. I didn't get any diagnosis for a small problem with my dogs eyes. However when it came to anything that costs big money like a surgery he was all about talking to those points. Again they gouged me for $200 for a simple yearly checkup and shots and some eye drops. The front desk folks are pretty friendly. I've tried the shed-ex and I would not recommend it. read more

I have had 8 dogs in the last 24 yrs and I have seen alot of Vets but none as knowledgeable, caring and compassionate as Dr Bollmeier. My dogs and I hit the jackpot when we found Dr Bollmeier. so let me tell you about this place, ok? we rushed up there last night with a sick cat, and the main vet told us that they would need to do a leukemia test. that came back negative, but he said they would need to keep the cat over night to do more blood work in the morning. He also said if it's liver problems, there was about a 90% chance of saving him. So we paid what they asked and left our little guy there. Today we get a phone call saying that not only was his red blood cell count VERY low, but his liver numbers were so bad there would almost no chance of saving him unless we wanted to sped a HUGE amount of money. So we made the difficult choice of putting out animal down. This is the part where it gets even worse. After our poor cat was in pain ALL night suffering, we walk in to the office to let them know we're there and what we decided to do. the girl at the front desk takes us back into a room, and after about 5 mins they bring out cat in. One big problem...it WASN'T OUR CAT. it was someone else's. The girl at the front desk apologized and said that "this cat was also really sick", but to me the poor thing look healthy as can be. he was clinging on to me the whole time. SO after all that, they bring our Tiny in, and he's howling in pain from being picked up and held. they go to start, but turns out the length of the IV that was in his leg was too long, so they have to make him hurt EVEN MORE by picking him up and taking him back in back again. The main Vet didn't even come in to apologize for the mixup, or the fact that even though we was told they could save him with a nearly 90% success rate, we still had to put out cat down. if they KNEW this would be the outcome, we would have much rather kept him from suffering FROM THE START. This is completely unprofessional, and absolutely unacceptable. we will NEVER be back, and damn it I'm telling EVERYONE i know to do the same. you never know..you could save the life of someone else's animal. it seems like they were more concerned about getting paid than the suffering our animal was going thru. read more

This was the worst experience I've ever had at a veterinarian ever! The nurse asked a few questions when we were taken into the examination room and then took my dog back to another room to perform the ENTIRE exam. They took blood, gave him his shot, expressed his anal glands and did his wellness check in a completely separate room from me. So I was just left waiting but had no idea that they were doing everything without me. The vet came in the room and said "we just did everything back there while we had him, do you have any questions?" I was so thrown that I didn't. To not be there to comfort my dog through the shots and blood draw is bad enough, but then to not have any time with the vet is ludicrous. Sometimes you just remember things as they are examining your dog or you have questions about things as they go along. Not only was the experience awful, but they overcharge up the ass. I take no pleasure in writing this review. Prior to my recent interaction, I had a high regard for my dog's primary vet. For the following reasons I do not recommend Four Paws Animal Hospital: When my dog had an ear infection, she was treated by Dr. Jenner because my primary vet was not available. I explicitly told Dr. Jenner not to give my dog anything that was ototoxic (causing deafness). She did anyway and guess what? My dog who was already hard of hearing became totally deaf. A few years later, I took my geriatric dog, who had arthritis, in to be treated for a nasal discharge. My dog's primary vet took x-rays of her, and in my opinion, mischaracterized the imagery report. He recommended I put her down, claiming the report indicated possible cancer of the spine. I asked for a copy of the report, which he seemed reluctant to provide. I read the report at home and it said right there in black and white, "Nothing remarkable." In other words, they didn't find anything wrong with her on the x-ray. I showed that report to two other vets, and neither of them indicated they would recommend euthanizing my dog based on that report. They did however take a culture of her nose and found she had a nasal infection, that they treated with antibiotics. Furthermore, when I left Four Paws my dog was partially sedated and left on the cold floor while the vet went to a staff meeting. That visit cost me $600. Upon reflection, my opinion of Four Paws couldn't be any lower. I would describe the clinic as dismal and run like a grooming salon, right down to the overhead music blasting out. If your pet is a patient there, and one of the vets recommends putting it down, make sure you get a second opinion. It might only be a nasal infection. read more

After, almost a year and a dozen kennel stays later, I had enough. Almost every time I picked her up she reeked of urine. She would come home and go straight for her water bowl. She is always withdrawn and exhausted when she comes home...Relaxing yeah right. I've heard of anxiety but come on. They claim to care so much about your pet but they don't even send them home in the condition they get them.. unless you want to pay for grooming & spa treatments, then sending your pet home smelly, dehydrated and depressed is acceptable. The straw that broke the camels back was when I picked her up and she had poop smeared across her backside! They brought her to me like that, REALLY! So, do they not clean out their kennels, do they not let them out or does no one check on them?? Horrible kennel. Oh and lets not forget the fleas that my house dog got multiple times. read more

I went to this place a silly number of times back when I lived in Illinois because they were good with not just dogs and cats, but small pets as well. I took all my pets to them and they were nothing but wonderful. Even a little mouse was treated like I would expect my own doctor to treat me. I had mice x- rayed and an old cat's teeth removed (his teeth were rotten when I got him), heartworms in an adopted dog treated, tumors were taken off rats, and I got a card after having an incurably sick mouse put down, signed by the staff, with a donation to the local veterinary college. I have had quite a few veterinarians over the years being a military family, and this was the best I ever came across. read more
