From the moment we arrived, the veterinarian, veterinary technician, and office staff were kind, compassionate, and genuinely caring. They were thorough, took the time to explain everything, and made us feel confident that our cat was in the best hands. I was a little embarrassed because our cat was shedding, and I hadn't had a chance to brush her before the appointment. I took my blue heeler in for her annual vaccinations and a wellness exam. My dog has terrible anxiety going to the vet, like she was literally shaking waiting in the lobby. As soon as the vet and technician came in to examine her, they immediately wanted to put a muzzle on her which I was fine with because I understand they want to feel safe while doing their job. In fact, they let me put the muzzle on my dog which I thought was helpful. But of course, my dog's anxiety got worse with it on and then they started treating her like an aggressive dog. What really upset me was the vet said her technician is "the best with aggressive dogs". My dog is NOT aggressive!! And then the technician started pulling on my dog's scruff, practically paralyzing her while they did the exam. I understand they're short on time and they see dogs every day but if they just gave her the time to relax around them, she would have cooperated. Instead, they probably made her anxiety worse for the next visit AND she was visibly depressed for a few days after. I felt terrible. All of this to say, we've had good experiences in the past with Animal Medical but unfortunately I don't think we'll be going back. read more

Thank you so much for getting our little Corgi girl in right away! I called before the office opened yesterday and they called me right when they opened up and got her in right away. We've been going to Animal Medical Services for a year now with our Mini Aussie. Our dog has anxiety at their office as he's had to start getting shots for his allergies every month and they are not comfortable to get. They have always allowed me to be in the room with him to alleviate his anxiety and help calm him. Yesterday when we arrived, they said I could not come back with him. I reminded them that he has anxiety and doesn't do well without me right next to him calming him down. They said they would handle it. Within moments I heard him yelp and then the female vet who is fairly new to the practice came out and said they would need my help. I walked into the room and my dog was visibly shaking and scared. The vet told me she didn't want to have to muzzle him for being aggressive. Keep in mind my dog has never been referred to by ANYONE as aggressive. He was just scared and if they had listened to me and allowed me in the room, the process would have been smooth like it had been previously. The entire experience was handled very unprofessionally. I had debated posting such a review, but after seeing someone else had an almost identical experience just two days prior, I felt it was necessary as this was clearly not a one time thing. We will not be returning to the practice. read more

As soon as I walked in the door, I was greeted with a pleasant smile and a good morning. All staff were very thoughtful, and pleasant, to myself and my little dog. I really liked how all the staff, and the vet were extremely patient and very accommodating. I have a little dog, and he has severe anxiety when going to the vet, he shakes and it's very difficult to give him an exam because he wiggles, and squirms, and won't let anyone near him. The staff took their time, and waited for him to begin to calm down. They were extremely patient. I would definitely refer anyone to this vet. I've been here three times, and their polite, thoughtful, and courteous behavior was consistent during each visit. Their prices are also reasonable, and I've been to a few vets in town over the last 14 years. I prefer Animal Medical Services over the other vets. I give them an "A". read more

They price gouge and will try to charge you for things not needed. Staff is friendly. The dr is extremely rude and unprofessional. I brought my cat in because she was constipated. Dr refused to give her an exam without X-rays. I refused X-rays because they were $480 and not needed. The dr told me to leave because I didn't want to pay for X-rays. Then decided he wanted to charge me for an exam that he refused to do without X-rays. He told me to get out and have a nice life. I do not recommend this vet because of the dr. My cat is all good now after using over the counter cat medicine read more

I brought my dog in because a growth on the top of her head started bothering her. I fully expected to hear the worst. But all her blood work was normal. They took her right in the next morning. They used a general anesthetic to do the excision, so I was able to get her teeth cleaned at the same time. They took such good care of her AND me. I've been taking my dog there her whole life & don't plan on making any changes. read more

I recently switched doctors for my four dogs. They have been a pleasure to work with and truly care about you pet.

Apparently someone "new" booked me an appointment for a test that they only do on dogs, despite me calling about my cats. Even if someone is new they should be able to differentiate between cats and dogs. So I put my cats in their carrier and drove over an hour for nothing. Since I was there I said hey do you have medicated eye drops that I can pick up for my cat Raven since I'm here, since I'd like to try something different from the eye ointment I have. I was told yes, the doctor had to provide them. So I waited. Then the doctor said all he could offer me was the eye ointment I already had. So then not only did I waste hours of my and my cat's lives, I also paid $69 to walk away with NOTHING. Beware-- such a wildly incompetent staff. I own a home in Markleeville but will never ever return here. read more

everyone at this office is very nice, I've been using them for around five years. I recently had to move to another vet. for the last two years+ my Cavalier Spaniel "Angel" has been developing a bad itch, yelping for no reason and snatching at her side. she's been just laying on a tile floor crying all night. and generally displaying pain. lately it's been getting much worse. after two years of treating her topically and with diet for allergies and checking her renal gland for pain. I just felt like they weren't taking me or the symptoms I was telling them about very seriously. being sent off with a no chicken diet and Zyrtec recommendations. so, I went and got a second opinion. the first visit at her new vet he found a foxtail all the way down against her eardrum. it looked like it had been there for a long time. she wasn't scratching at her side but her ear. she wasn't yelping and biting at herself and whining in pain from her butt hurting but her ear. now she is looking at long term hearing damage. had the other doctor not found this it could have caused far more serious problems. best thing I've ever done for my dog was take her someplace else. read more

This has been our veterinarian care for a few years now. We've been happy with the services for our two senior dogs. Last week our dog Oscar, a border terrier, had a number of seizures and needed to be put down. We'd had Oscar for eleven years and loved every minute with him. He was a pound dog so we don't know how old he actually was. He went downhill fast over the weekend and we were at the office when they opened on Monday morning. I can't thank them enough for their compassion and ease throughout this tough time. Even though they were super busy with everyone dropping off their dogs for surgeries they took Oscar in right away. I had been a client of Animal Medical Services for 11+ years with 5 different pets. I loved Dr Burns and her entire staff. Since she has stepped back from being there full time I have been there twice. The first time I didn't see a doctor, somebody came out into the lobby and gave my dog an injection. Ok, they were busy but they were the ones that scheduled the appointment! I have had on occasion have Dr Burns tell me to just leave my dog in the car and she would come out and give him his injection, which was fine. The last time I was there for a wellness check and vaccinations and saw the new doctor. Everything went well until I tried to get a written prescription, that she had given me, filled at Chewy. Three times,after talking to the office personnel each time, the request from Chewy kept getting rejected. After the third time I spoke with Avery, the tech, and after talking to the Pharmacist at Chewy confirmed that Avery lied to me. So, after 11 years, I will be taking my pets to Quail Ridge because of Avery! read more
