I am extremely disappointed and heartbroken over our experience here. We brought our cat, Bandit, in because he was very sick, weak, losing weight, and clearly not himself. I was already extremely emotional and scared, and instead of feeling like we had a team trying to help us, I felt like the first priority was how much money we could pay. Before even running tests to determine what was wrong with him, we were being asked about the cost. I understand that veterinary care costs money and that businesses have to charge for their services, but when someone is sitting there crying and desperately trying to help their pet, there should be compassion and some effort to explain the options clearly not make them feel like they are being forced into an impossible financial decision. We ultimately had to make the heartbreaking decision to put Bandit to sleep. I will always wonder whether something could have been done for him if we had been given a real opportunity to find out what was wrong and discuss treatment options before being pushed toward the cost of everything. We were charged around $500 for the euthanasia and cremation. I understand cremation is an additional service, but being charged that much after feeling like there wasn't much effort made to actually help save him has left me feeling devastated and taken advantage of. The most painful part is that I didn't feel like Bandit was being treated as a life that mattered. I felt like I was being treated as a customer and a dollar amount during one of the worst moments of my life. I held Bandit's hand while he received his final shot. He was a cat we found and rescued and became part of our family. We loved him, and we wanted to help him. I just wish I had felt that the people caring for him wanted the same thing. I hope this experience is taken seriously and that other families in a similar situation are given more compassion, transparency about costs, and genuine options before being put in the position we were in. read more

We have a rescue dog we adopted from the Carson City Humane Society last year as a 4 month old pup. We had yet to set up a new Veterinarian office. Well I noticed she had a little unpleasant discharge. Knowing this is not normal, we called around and found this office has Urgent Care appts for non-life-threatening situations. I was already pretty sure what she had but also knew she needed antibiotics to get rid of it. I was able to catch a clean urine sample right before we left to rule out any UTI. Now our Sushi girl was ready to go and a 2 town away drive. Once upon arriving, this place is huge! Really clean once and very nice inside. Very nice Employees to help along the way. Once checked in, we were taken back and talked with a very sweet Vet Tech. Now the Veterinarian comes in, Dr Dalton Pils and plops right down on the floor. Sushi is loving all over him while he gets a good assessment on her. They take her back and run a few tests which were included in the original ER charge. Results came back as to what I had originally thought it was. Antibiotics and steroids for 10 days. They gave her chewables, and not again lol. I had to hide chewables in cheese lol. I have a picky pup lol. I highly recommend Dr Pils if you have to go to Urgent Care and can pick your Vet. He really reminds me of the Vet we left when we moved here from SETX. read more

I can't say enough amazing things about Carson Valley Vet! They have always taken exceptional care of my dog, Copper, and I've never had anything less than outstanding service. On a recent visit, I had to bring him in on a Sunday, and they got me in immediately. Copper needed emergency dental surgery, and they managed to squeeze him in just a day and a half later. The team always takes the time to explain everything in detail, and they're completely honest and open about all options. A special shoutout to Dr. Warner for his expertise and care, and to Rachel--her kindness and calmness were exactly what I needed in that moment. Not the final review of 2023 I was hoping to write but unfortunately, it became time to put our baby girl, Beastie, to sleep. From making the appointment on the phone, to interacting with the staff in person, everybody was caring, sympathetic, and patient. In a strange twist, while I was filling out the paperwork, our dog ended up passing away in my wife's arms...right there in the waiting area. The girls at the desk took her into a room to verify and unfortunately, did confirm that she had passed. They gave us a private room to say our goodbyes, and handled all of the paperwork/payments privately so we wouldn't have to go back into the waiting room. We ended up going with the option to have her cremated and ashes returned to us and to have her paws molded. Obviously, they removed the euthanasia charge from the final bill. I would highly recommend this place to every dog parent. They truly care for your pet and are very kind. Below is the final picture of our baby. Do not take your pet anywhere else. I love Carson Valley Vet Hospital. Today I called from work, my dog ate a corn cob two days ago and wouldn't walk today. Called them explained the situation, , I was already headed there. They had me pull over and do some tests on my dog, they said come straight here, we will watch for you. Got there and they took him straight back, did X-rays and in 15 minutes had some answers and they are treating him. If they have to do surgery they will. Saga ongoing but doc said this is a common thing and everything will be ok. I live in Carson and work in Reno, drove all the way out there because I don't trust anyone else with my Frenchie. Staff and doctors are absolutely amazing. World class in caring for you and your pet. I will not take my dogs anywhere else and make the drive because it's worth it. 10 stars! Let me tell you, if you need a veterinarian to go to in this area, you need to pay these guys a visit we were really impressed with how clean the place was, but he has a brand new building but, we lived in this area years ago and it's amazing how many things have built up and this is one of them that is fantastic. My Little Roo, my sweet little Chihuahua, who is under three panels, had a PDA, which is part of its heart murmur, and needed heart surgery as soon as possible. We had gone to a place in Reno, but neither one of us were very comfortable, and did not feel right, so we did major research and Dr. Ross at Carson Valley veterinarian Hospital was our choice. They let us stay in their parking lot in our camper van, which was super nice and so easy in the morning to drop her off at 7 AM in one minute compared to driving two hours that was very nice of them to let us stay. Fantastic, clean place. The staff is absolutely wonderful. We dropped her off on Thursday morning. She had surgery Thursday afternoon. Dr. Ross called me and told me how good she was doing, and we could pick her up the next day at 1 PM. I decided to go home and get some things done and came back on Friday to pick her up at 1 PM. She was in good hands, the sweet vet tech, I didn't get her name, but she said that my puppy just sat in their shirts during the daytime and turn the phone and just sitting there looking around it was very happy to be hanging out with them. It was really cute. I almost had to fight to get my dog back lol just kidding. They all loved her. I want to thank them very much for saving my little puppies life, I was so scared and they did such a great job and you will definitely have my business and a lot of my friends business by the time I'm done. We were referred to this place because they have doctors who are trained in the type of surgery my dog needs. It's not too far from Reno and the drive is easy. From the initial phone call to set up a consultation to meeting the doctor, our experience has been amazing! We were greeted by friendly people when we checked in. The vet tech who walked us to our room and did the initial check was informative and helpful. Dr. Nelson was incredibly personable. He got down on the floor and gave my dog lots of love and pettings. Best vet experience ever. My dog came up lame suddenly. Called in the morning and got in by early afternoon same day. Was seen promptly by Dr. Nick Mannan. His love of dogs was evident. He dropped down on the floor with her and gave her a hands-on exam and found the problem. Out the door for an acceptable price and with my meds in hand. Had our first ever appointment at CVVH yesterday and was extremely pleased from interacting with the gals at the front desk, to the tech all the way to Dr. Pils. Everyone was very nice, asked questions, loved on our babies, gave them treats after their shots...all the things you could hope for. This was our kitties first trip to the Vet so I was unsure how they'd do, but they were purring and half asleep in their carrier by the time we were done. Dr. Pils came in after examining them/administering vaccines and went through everything he checked to give them a clean bill of health. He was nice, calm, informative and made sure I didn't have any questions or concerns. They set me up with an appointment for our next visit while we were still in the exam room and give me some details on what was coming up as well as what the spay/neutering process would be like when it was time. We were only in for vaccines but I can tell they all care about the animals they're working with which goes a long way in my book. We were referred there by a friend as some of the Vets in our area (Tahoe) had less than stellar reviews. Gayle and I moved to the Carson Valley over 2 years ago, and not over the course of 4 cats (2 who passed and 2 new ones) and multiple visits, we feel that we now have a good handle on the Carson Valley Veterinary Hospital (CVVH). Here's what we appreciate the most: - Same Day Appointments. CVVH is a busy place, but they still allow same day appointments, on the condition that the time might slide depending on business that day. - 7 Day Flexibility. For example, we were in last Sunday for a well-cat appointment for the 2 newest members of the family (Catticus and Scout). - Professional service and Empathetic Staff. It wasn't easy to let go of Graycie and Olivia, but through our tears we felt well taken care of. - Good Pro and Con Diagnosis. In the case of Graycie and Olivia, we were well informed of what could be done and how much. Yes, you could choose to endow a wing of a new Vet Clinic by spending whatever it takes, but we felt we were given the right information to make the most loving decision. - Reasonable Pricing. I realize that this opinion is in the eye of the beholder. But let's just say that compared to what we paid in the Bay Area, we're quite pleased. Finally, my best friend from High School (who I've known for almost all the time I've been alive) is a successful Vet in Portland. My first experience was ok, I had adopted a puppy from the SPCA and took him to start his vaccines. When he had kennel cough; any appointment I would schedule they considered an emergency - by the time we were done with the additional cost of the medication's - I almost had to mortgage the house . To make matters worse they wanted me to bring him back in to get his final vaccine and when I did, they wanted me to pay for an additional office visit. One of the office staff was so rude, when I questioned the additional cost for the vaccine; I left and found another veterinary clinic much better prices and considerate staff. read more

I find it hard to leave a review at all, But I found this vet by someone suggesting them to me. I am thankful for them doing so. I had my Shepard put down at the end of April due to health complications that lead him to the end of his life. The office staff showed sympathy & made no judgment by the way I left the office in tears. A few months went by & I rescued another Shepard from the local shelter. I had called to make an appointment just to have the vet look at him also to answer a few questions I had about prolonging his life in the future. We were driving on our way from san diego to Lake Tahoe when our Dog, Petunia started having diarrhea almost every hour. You can imagine the stress and worry my husband and i were having while on a supposed vacation. We were calling alot of clinics but were not available until we were able to luckily get a spot at Carson Valley Vet hospital. Can i just first say, their establishment was clean, modern and beautiful. Their equipment was up to date, looking like fanciest ER ive seen so far. Finally the best part was Dr. Scott Warner. We were seen on time, his decision making based on his assessment was fast and well thought off and he includes you in explaining it in laymans term what the hell was going on with our baby. They drew labs and after 25 mins decided on a care plan. Turns out, after having pancreatitis, my dog had ended up with gastric enteritis. He walked me through the labs and his thought process in treating her. We walked out of there after an iv hydration, meds and probiotics. We finally had a good sleep that night since the meds are working on her. She was so much better the next morning. I'm writing a review that I never thought I'd write. Our sweet girl got sick on a Sunday morning. Although she was healthy (we thought) & playing the day before, the next day we knew something was wrong and required a vet visit. Carson Valley Veterinary Hospital is one of few locations open 7-days per week. We called and were quickly scheduled for a wellness check. Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly staff and a polite vet tech. In short order we were asked to come in and discuss our sweet Lexi's condition. Our doctor (Amanda Buffo) was proffesional, patient and caring. However, she was also very honest when we asked about the testing she recommended. We asked if she felt there was cause for concern, she said, "Yes I'm very concerned". At that moment, we knew something we never considered could be a possibility. Amanda and team completed the tests and unfortunately identified our poor sweet girl was in very bad shape. She had fluid outside her intestines, and a large mass on her liver that must have recently burst. Amanda completed an ultrasound and let us know just this was causing extreme pain. She offered a referral to UC Davis if that was in fact what we wanted to do. We could not imagine leaving her in pain, scared, vomiting and full of fluid that shouldn't be there. We felt (personal choice for all of us) it would be for selfish reasons to prolong her suffering. Ultimately we decided to put her to rest. Amanda was SO kind!. She waited for us to get her favorite blanket and toys. She explained every single step she would be taking in detail to ensure we knew what to expect. Amanda sat next to us on the grass, under a tree. She was kind and compassionate through the entire process. This could NEVER be a good situation, we are broken hearted and empty without her! We thank you Amanda for doing your best to ease our pain. We were fortunate to have you as Lexi's doctor during the most difficult time of her little life! read more

Very compassionate, quick response fr entire staff after our 10 month old Shi Tzu swallowed a 4" piece of bully stick. We brought him in within 10 minutes and they immediately took him back to induce vomiting, which didn't yield the results we wanted. The vet assured us he was in no danger overnight and we brought him back the next morning for a barium/radiographic series of photos. We were kept informed of our pup's status all day with multiple ph calls. Once the vet was confident there was no longer a need for possible surgery, we picked our pup up. The vet showed us the pictures they had taken through out the day, thereby alleviating our worst fears. Pup is doing great! No more bully sticks! Compassionate care, taking the proper conservative course of action are what we look for and rec'd by the entire staff. We've been using this vet service since moving here in 2018 and are very pleased with them. read more
