I adopted a 9 WEEK OLD puppy on Feb 1 and she passed away on March 13th. the shelter gave me 2 antibiotics and told me it was just for nasal discharge. Within a week of having her, I had to take her to the animal hospital ER because she started to have labored breathing after that. She had several other visits and they did x-rays and her lungs had shadowing. She was so sick and it was so hard to see. I tried calling the shelter about this and they gave me the run around and were very rude. This not only cost me money but it was so hard on me and my family to watch her suffering and pass away.

This place is simply a shit show. We adopted a kitten here, she was too young at the time to be spayed. We brought her back once she was 2lbs for the procedure. When we picked her up I noticed immediately all her whiskers were gone. I called the shelter to be transferred around 3 times. All the staff laughed it off, denying that this would ever happen. Now why would I ever make that up? I spoke to the shelter manager, Suzy. She was Flat out rude and conducted herself in an unprofessional manner. As I expressed my concern for this completely unnecessary action that had taken place she continuously LAUGHED. I didn't even get an apology. How could a kitten do this to themself? All coincidentally cut down to the same length. Ridiculous. Such a horrible thing to do to an animal... no accountability or sympathy. As a pet owner I'd like to be informed of these things, given a reason as to why it happened. Not gas light and treated like a joke.

I was very upset being told several things about showing up and what to expect. Called to get on the list for a doberman puppy only to find out I wasnt. The managers were excellent and got me in to see the puppy. I did adopt her. Although they had an outbreak of distemper my pup was not affected. She is now with me and her new family and very happy! Didnt start out well but the manager took care of us!

$25 adoptions! Microchipped and spayed or neutered, which is awesome unfortunately the Shelter said the kitten was 10 weeks old and 3lbs and litter trained. It was not. Pooped and pee all over the place. Once at the veterinarian to receive surgery we were told the kitten was only 4 weeks and weighs 1lbs .16oz We had to pay a bio hazard $8 and $25 for rescheduling. Not to mention all the extras the vet clinic was trying to add plus all the extra stuff i had to buy because of its age. Milk, bottles, etc. please do your best to research the animals best you can.

Last summer I lost my companion Val to an illness and I was heartbroken. I was so lost without her and looked on your website for another dog to fill my heart. There was Rosy. A little black puppy all of 3 months old. Airplane ears, cold wet nose, soulful eyes and adorable. Rosy has now become a dog and what a love she is. I cannot say enough about her and most of my days are filled with laughter and companionship. Thank you again for giving me a friend.

    Daisy says thank you!

I had a very positive experience with the staff when I adopted my pup. Everyone I interacted with was patient and seemed to really care. There were some people in line at the office that I thought were rude and impatient but the staff stayed professional. I think that they seemed understaffed, the office trailer was hot and waiting in line took about an hour. I think that's more so as a result of being underfunded than from a lack of caring. Please keep up the good work and know that you are appreciated.

Me and my family came to adopt a puppy from here on Saturday May 31st and we seriously don't recommend i genuinely have never been more upset. We got a 9 week old puppy but when we got the puppy we quickly noticed our dog was hurt because when the worker passed her to us she started crying, he told us she was probably hurt from her spaying which had been done earlier that week on May 28. We took our puppy home and she was extremely bloated and was sneezing, coughing, and had mucus coming out of her nose which we figured would be kennel cough which is unfortunately common for dogs in shelters. However this was only the tip of the iceberg, our puppy was walking with a hunch and whenever we would try to pet her she would cry. We took our dog back to the shelter on Tuesday for her to get checked out for the kennel cough but the vet there said they couldn't do anything for it because they weren't completely sure what it was since they had just tested for parvo and it came back negative, we were also given medicine for her spay that she was SUPPOSED to be taking since we got her from the shelter but they never gave it to us, they also told us our dogs spay incision was infected which was odd because it looked completely fine and we got medicine for that as well. When we were leaving the shelter we noticed the puppy had an open wound on her lower back which was around an inch wide. We decided to take her to another vet the next day in fontana to test for kennel cough and to clean out her wound which looked pretty infected. The vet confirmed the kennel cough and said our dogs spay incision was not infected but her back was, they cleaned it out and gave us medication for both things. Later that day when we were cleaning her wound with the ointments we got at the vet, we realized our dog had another cut on her upper back in between her shoulder blades. We went to the Fontana Animal Hospital again the next day where they trimmed our dogs entire back fur, this revealed a big open wound that was extremely infected and had spread itself all over our dogs back. The vet told us our dogs back was completely dead, the skin on her back was grey and underneath it was just pus and meat. We were given the option to do surgery on our dog or to continue putting the ointments on her but surgery was going to be expensive so they said if we came back to the shelter they had to pay back the vet expenses because there was absolutely no way that nobody noticed our dog was hurt since she had been spayed and the dogs also get showered at the shelter. So we went on Thursday and the one shelter worker told us she would text us when we could bring our dog back to get checked out by their vet instead, she texted us not long after and said to come back today on Saturday at 8 pm and the vet was gonna do the procedure. When we got there today the place was completely closed down and nobody answered our calls or messages. Completely unacceptable especially since our dog was not able to eat or drink anything including her medicine she was given because we were told not to give her anything before her surgery. I will be back and i expect for them to not only do whatever my dog needs medically free of all charge but also pay for all the other vet bills from the different places. Best believe i will not let them get away with this.

Dog shelters especially kill shelters are so very sad:( We came here looking for a playmate for our Rottweiler we just adopted a few months back from the Carson Ca Shelter. Staff here were very friendly and super helpful. (Front office staff) Now the facilities could definitely use some sprucing up. Lots of old nasty insulation falling from the top of the roof over cages. They also could clean the cages more often and walkways better. A lot of the cages are full of feces:( They just spray water in them that travels out to the walkway. So it smells really bad:( Now when inquiring about the animals. Unfortunately staff look like most of them are volunteers and they aren't very knowledgable about the animals. So it's pretty much a gamble as far as knowing the temperament and how they will interact with other animals. The adoption process goes like this: You go look @ all the animals available and take down there # then go to front to inquire about being on that specific animals list. They will give you a blue slip telling you what date to come back for the adoption. You must be @ shelter by 10am they start calling names and whoever is there 1st gets the animal. Then you do a meet-and-greet making sure you and the dog or the animal are a great fit. You pay for the adoption and shots/ if the dog has already been spayed or neutered you pay @ shelter. Then if the animal is not spayed or neutered they transport to one of 2 vets they affiliated with. You then schedule a pick up after it's done and you pay the veterinarian. If they have not vaccinated for the rabies shot you'll do it there at the Veterinary Clinic as well. The spayed and neutering cost depends on a dog's weight. After this you can take your pet home. We adopted a young rottweiler mix with a Snaggletooth and bent tail. My kiddos fell n love with him! They said he fits n good with us, because he's different and being different ROCKS! Overall if you want an animal adoption is the BEST way and if you adopt from here you will be saving a life!

Mindy provided a very personable, warm and extremely responsive service, made every effort to respond to my inquiry on Adopt-A-Pet and approving my application as well as just answering my questions and chatting with me about my potential cat baby's personality traits and his background story. She responded to emails as late as 11PM on a weekend and her demeanor was always welcoming and reassuring, like an old, caring friend. Mindy's words and actions convey that she truly truly love all of her rescued cat babies and she only wants what's best for them and she works extremely hard to find them good homes. I was very sad that neither cat babies from her rescue matched the particular personality I was looking for (I was trying to fill this big hole in my heart with the tragic loss of a stray cat named Cookie I cared for) and I really wished that given all the hard work she and her daughter put into, I'd adopt either Teddy or Khabib. Despite these big, affectionate sweet boys were not the best match I was searching for, I don't think any less of them, I sincerely hope they will find their forever home they deserve and I cannot be more grateful for Mindy's time, patience and understanding she's extended me and my family. If I had more capacity for an additional cat baby in the future after finding THE ONE, Mindy and her rescue is the first place I'd check out. (I do understand and respect prioritizing the mental health of the cats, but I'm sure the cats, especially the adults, would prefer a compromise, like being required to fill out a one page form on the spot before meeting). Every serious adopter that goes into a pet store and sees one of this organization's animals that they are interested in adopting and is told they have to go through this and this and this step before they can even interact with the cat and know if the personality is a fit. Everyone loses out. In my experience, even if you do go through all the steps, they won't call you back, and a cat that could have had a home I know had that opportunity taken from them because of the seemingly righteous or superior attitude of the rescue people. They surely know how many people go in and out of those cat and kitten rooms at the Animal Friends of the Valley shelter. Having a few people go in one at a time to meet one particular cat, I don't feel, is any more dangerous or unhealthy for the cat than them losing the opportunity to be adopted and eventually being put down. I just don't understand rescues like this. If you're too small to actually help, then let somebody else do it.

I'm not sure how many actually review charitable non profit rescue groups, but I have to review this one to tell you what kind of work they do and how truly selfless they are (they even helped me with dog that wasn't from Harlee's Angels.) I was down to my last frenchie, outliving my once 5 pack of dogs... She was lonely, wondering where everyone was, why it was so quite and why she was so alone. It was time to consider her crossing that rainbow bridge. My dogs saved me. And here I am again needing to be saved. Enter Harlee's Angels Southern California Division. I was on a site called RescueMe.org and looking into rescuing an english bulldog mix that just really captured my attention. Not much was said about him that I couldn't already see in the pictures. He looked so sweet and innocent and YOUNG. But the scars on his face said otherwise. The story said "bait dog." Harlee's Angels are about rescuing, rehabilitating and adopting out dogs that no one else thinks worthy of help. And trust me they do MORE.. Please see their site. Harlee's Angels provides: "Rescues dogs in county animal shelters that would otherwise be euthanized. Each dog is placed in foster care, receives veterinary care, and sterilization. Foster care for dog surrendered by their owners who either can no longer provide for the pets or no longer wish to have them in their homes. Adoption of rescued dogs to qualified homes that have been properly screened and counseled by our adoption coordinators and foster parents to maintain the pet in the home for a lifetime. Training of leadership team members and volunteers in the areas of humane education, animal welfare, animal behavior and care, and disaster response. Education to the public in the form of counseling, pet behavior consultation and training, Temporary assistance in whatever manner needed, when possible to help families keep their pets." Harlee's Angels Vision "Harlee's Angels is recognized as a major resource for the welfare of homeless, abandoned and abused companion animals in the United States. Our goal is to lower euthanasia rates at county animal controls by: Bringing unwanted dogs into our program for medical, social rehabilitation and re-homing. Providing resources to pet owners to encourage their responsibility and commitment to their pets and prevent them from contributing to the homeless pet population (i.e. spay/neuter awareness, microchipping, etc.). We want to be a valuable resource to our community. We believe that one person can make the difference in the life of an animal in need, so as an organization, we have more strength to help more animals." I applied for Ricky a month after I saw him. But someone had already adopted him. I guess it wasn't meant to be. I was bummed. 2months later, I continued to check out the rescueme.org site and lo and behold Ricky was back for adoption. I'm told the previous owner had personal issues that brought him back. It was fate and he was mine. Today, and 15lbs heavier Ricky is ALL that I want in a dog. Handsome, Sweet, Happy, and Gentle too... he's fit very well into the family dynamics and with training has become a truly obedient and perfect family member. To think someone used him as a bait dog, or others thought he was not rehabilitatable! Wow. I got a true GEM!!!! Please rescue.. if your interested in a dog, please check out Harlee's Angels. There are great animals here and a perfect canine for your family. They will try and match your personality with the right dog. And this group is just the best.
